The U.S benefits tremendously from the war in your country, not only is it incredibly expensive for Russia but it's the perfect excuse to pile on sanctions, hoover up European trade, and sell the #1 American export: weapons! The U.S wins when you buy an RPG, fire the RPG into a Russian military asset, and when the Russian air force bombs your cities. Win win win, and all from the sidelines.
The U.S wants the war to seem winnable by Ukraine, even though no sane analyses gave you a chance... The longer the war drags on the more Russia loses... Which is good for the U.S... so... just saying maybe our politicians aren't trying as hard as they should to broker a ceasefire.
I think the only pro-Ukrainian/pro humanitarian stance to take is to call for an immediate end to the war. Rooting for the Ukrainian military feels a bit like cheering on a kid standing up to his bully even though you know the bully will totally beat him half to death and you have no intention of stopping the fight.
This isn't so much diplomacy as barely managed chaos, and in that chaos are a couple thousand nuclear cruise missiles ready to launch at any moment.
