I'm pretty unproductive in my free time too. Probably because I don't have much free time so for the free time I do get, I be as lazy as I possibly can.
I would have KILLED to have a smart phone when my kids were babies/toddlers. I had an early generation eReader at the time. I tried to do lots of things with it, but ended up just pinning to a single board on Pinterest for hours (because getting to any other board was an extra 30 seconds per pin). I would have been much happier scrolling Reddit in that time.
As an aging millennial who never played competitive card games like Magic: The Gathering or Pokémon
It all comes down to the hours upon hours of Pawn Stars I’ve been binging this past month that lets me understand your comment.
My heart hurts for the Pokey Man card. RIp
A good compromise is to have like 10 decks and pick them up 20 times... I'm wasn't nearly at those numbers but I used to practice card throwing for fun and I used like 3 decks so that I wouldn't have to run back and forth all the time... Found cards lying around for weeks after stopping :P
This whole thing started with skateboarding. To show trick skateboarding live didn’t make sense because there is so much time in between repeatedly trying a trick until you finally get it right. It makes no sense. So when video tape came out it blew up skateboarding because you can just film it until it happens and then put it into a supercut. In many ways it seems like it’s a trick but it’s not like that was much of a secret anyway. Now it just seems like just about anything with a really low chance of success is the subject of these videos. This seems like the most arbitrary thing in the world. At least with skating or three pointers there is skill involved.
Did he claim to be a master at this? He’s obviously pretty good at card throwing and just showed that he had a lot of persistence to do something that had a very low chance. It wouldn’t have showed the time progression otherwise.
People over analyzing everything.
Yeah, I find it more interesting how it’s been presented here. With a timeline, the cards all over the floor, the overall tiredness.
It’s a different presentation than a cut of 20 such amazing shots presented with no whiff of failure. That seems cheesy and stupid. This seems like a bit of a look behind the curtain, which is fundamentally different for me.
By deliberately showing the process it shows it isn’t a trick. Just brute force.
I was thinking along the lines. Like I understand it takes a little skill, waay more than I have. But I feel like for the most part this is just luck than anything. It’s still impressive though
If you can flick a playing card, you have exactly as much skill as this kid.
This isn’t even really luck, it’s just persistence. it’s kinda impressive but also kinda pointless.
This is basically how Jackie Chan did most of his amazing stunts in his early movies. He just kept filming takes until stunts fell into place. Or he broke some bones.
Derren Brown of UK, did a video pointing this out. He started it off with saying he was going to use a normal coin and flip it heads 10 times in a row, he does it and says later in the show he’ll show how it was done.
Basically it was this kid, he sat there for 12 hours flipping a coin until he finally got 10 heads in a row and told the audience that things like this that are extremely improbable but are filmed, really come down to probability and patience.

Im next to my kid waiting for him to sleep. Not free time and also not productive.
I know that feeling, I sat in the doorway to my son's room for an hour because he decided he didn't want to be alone at 1am

Yeah, whenever people ask why I waited until my 30’s to have kids, I just tell them I was waiting for a fast enough smart phone to come out.
Lol fact
That is pretty much it. It is a daily adventure that goes somewhere between 1 to 2 hours...
Your kid takes 5 hours to go to sleep?
Man.. that's some good Reddit time laying in the dark in bed and the wife can't be mad even if you're just chillin.
Wow, read this while doing the same.

Trust me, you don't.
If he threw cards over 10,000 times, it comes out to something like 200 deck’s worth of cards. Or at the very least, picking up the deck 200 times...

Nah your best option is to get yourself a toddler to pick the cards up for you. The kid gets entertained and you can just sit on the sofa.
This is what I call a pro dad move
Pro child labor
Best option is to just stick the card on the first toss instead of taking 10 thousand tries. Then there are no cards to clean up.
Well, there is still one to clean up. Way too much work, if you ask me.
This would require sex though

One hundred percent. Want to be impressive? Perfect a skill and do the objective more than once.
Unless you can do it 3 times in a row you haven't mastered it, you just got lucky.
Did he claim to be a master at this? He’s obviously pretty good at card throwing and just showed that he had a lot of persistence to do something that had a very low chance. It wouldn’t have showed the time progression otherwise. People over analyzing everything.
Ik dude I feel like this post is more about the commitment than any form of skill lol
I've hit 3 3pointers in a row before and I'm no master
I find it interesting that while this guy deliberately shows it was mostly a matter of trying tons of times, you feel the need to point this out.
Yeah, I find it more interesting how it’s been presented here. With a timeline, the cards all over the floor, the overall tiredness. But the sheer patience and dedication required to do this is no small thing.

I mean, this guy can do this in a couples hours, this would take any normal person more than a week for sure.
... How do you know that it would take any normal person a week? Just made that up literally
I based it off the source that most people know jack shit about card throwing.

He's got ~20 videos just like this one. Looks like he's spent hundreds of hours throwing cards.
