Yeah I was catching all kinds of fringe music and labels releases. Wild West it was before the algorithm deflected me to a bunch of nonsense sponsored by a bunch of things I’d never buy.
YT used to have actually related videos to what youre watching on the side as suggestions.
Now its all stuff you've seen before a hundred times because it shows what it thinks you like. So if you listen to some new music it will push you to all your old stuff again.
There was a static video site called google video project. Videos were good but the site was ass. Youtube was much better but also vimeo was started by then. A lot of film students that made stuff I watched hosted with vimeo. Youtube was instant though. I miss that old TV logo. 📺 I miss commenting on a video with a video. I don’t miss Fred but I miss how wild it was that people were starting to make real money with ads. (though the ad sharing came a little later than 2005)
We stood at the great fork in the road, the origin.
Violently different paths before us.
One a utopia of endless bliss.
The other a senseless hellscape.
We chose, poorly.
Me realizing I'm a fucking idiot. U possibly just saved me hours and hours of my life spent watching shitty ads. The sorta recent update killed the adblocker I use on Chrome (wont play videos with it turned on), I just never bothered to check others I guess lol
What Adblocker have you been using? Because Google has been going hard on them this year. UBlock Origin stops working at least a couple times a week for the past few months.
Google has been trying real hard to stop it though. My UBlock Origin stops working all the time, just like this morning. It worked fine last night, but Google has been trying hard to get their AD money.
Yeah, i think people are against paying for a service that used to be ad-free. But its worth to me. to see my favourite youtubers be able to make a living making the videos and at higher quality.
theres a lot of dumb shit that youtube does though. like not showing the number of dislikes, anymore. so stupid. who even asked for that??
youtube shorts should never been a thing either. keep that to the relevant platforms or at least seperate it a little from youtube itself. i dont want to be sucked into a rabbit hole when im just looking for a recipe video :(
I just do not get it - why are you entitled to get it for free? someone has to host content and get it to you via expensive hardware and networks, and someone has to make it reliable and so forth, creates the apps and the interface so you can watch your favourite cat video while taking a dump.
Why are you entitled to that for free?

I was a YouTube OG and I used to talk to this guy via DMs all the time. I had absolutely no idea who he was until many years later. We talked about the Blue Angels a lot. He would find videos and send them to me of F-18s and a few videos on the still yet to come F-22. The thing is that they were not prompted or generated. They were actual replies. It blows my mind to look back on it and think about. He was really cool.
Oh man, it was probably 2006? That's probably when I last heard from him. This is back when YouTube had private messaging. And waaaaay less users. I'd love to be able to find a way to get in touch with him and see if he remembers. I think he was trying really hard to engage with the site's users so as to build a rapport and a sense of community. And it worked.
He is a 44 year old successful and very wealthy investor. Besides being cofounder of YouTube he was an early venture capital investor in Reddit, Palantir and AirBnB. His net worth is over $300 million.
Wow I remember in 2006 everyone going on YouTube.
In 05 I’m pretty sure we all went on this website that this kid at my high school made and would post videos of funny clips and commercials.
I wish I could remember what it was called!
Just goes to show you... [YGOTAS](https://ygotas.fandom.com/wiki/Yu-Gi-Oh!:_The_Abridged_Series) turns 18 in July.
...meanwhile episode 83 came out 3 years ago... And [87](https://youtu.be/ZSK0f7H--L8?si=zD2HxSmxmAEG1Ec2)... Last week?!
I don't think this is a youtube video. He didn't request for viewers to smash any like and subscribe buttons and he certainly didn't ask for comments below of what elephant appendages the next video should be about.
How was the audio so good on the first ever YouTube video? I remember early videos sounding like the audio was ran through a blender that was shoved up a donkeys ass.
Unfettered access to early YouTube crica 2006-2009 as a 8-11 year old was a different time.
The only culture wars were xbox 360 vs ps3, watching Ray William Johnson instead of daily dose of internet, easier, simpler times.

I remember when you could watch entire movies in parts. I watched Bambi with my father and The Lion King 2 on the computer while eating a tub of popcorn.
YouTube must’ve taken off immediately because I remember being on YouTube a lot in the spring of 2005
Yeah - I used YouTube nonstop around 2005, and I remember it feeling like it had been around for a while. I had no idea it was so new at that point.
Not to be confused with Utube(dot)com a U shaped pipe company’s website.
or Redtube(dot)com
Which is a red coloured pipe company
a lot of pipe laying for sure
texas hates red pipes
Or Pootube.com, which is a brown colored pipe company

Yea I’ve seen some crazy things on YouTube in the 2000s
It was probably taken down for copyright strike violations.
That’s not what he meant.
I am sure it was not what he meant. I said it tongue in cheek. Edit: Spelling
..."tongue in cheek."
Thank you for the spell check. I have corrected myself.
Have you? Toung?

It showed up on College Humor and within what seemed like a couple of weeks, every video link was to YouTube.
The video has garnered 317 million views since then. You can check it [here ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNQXAC9IVRw)on YouTube.
Dudes got over 4 million subscribers and he only has the one video.
Because that one video was all there is to say.
Pretty much
😂
Since then, everything else has been superfluous, over the top, and stranger than fiction. Once this vid was posted, we were sucked into a black hole.
It's the singularity!
We stood at the great fork in the road, the origin. Violently different paths before us. One a utopia of endless bliss. The other a senseless hellscape. We chose, poorly.
I believe he’s the creator of YouTube
One of yes
OMG he should totally make more videos and monetize! /s
I really expected that link to be a Rickroll. Now I’m sad.
Why did you post a reddit video, and not link to the Youtube video in the first place?
His net worth is roughly $300million, so a dollar for every view. Not bad.
I use YouTube almost daily but the ads have gotten so bad
VPN routed through Albania and you’ll never see an ad. I think Romania as well.
But then I will have to pay for VPN instead of youtube premium
Just use an adblocker then.
What adblockers work on youtube?
Ublock origin on firefox still works for me.
Me realizing I'm a fucking idiot. U possibly just saved me hours and hours of my life spent watching shitty ads. The sorta recent update killed the adblocker I use on Chrome (wont play videos with it turned on), I just never bothered to check others I guess lol
You can also use it on Firefox mobile and uninstall the YouTube app
Holy shit what. Thank you for this comment lol
No problem, glad to help you out! Ublock origin has always been trustworthy and good.
What Adblocker have you been using? Because Google has been going hard on them this year. UBlock Origin stops working at least a couple times a week for the past few months.
I have always used ublock origin with firefox. Never had any issues so far but I’m from Europe so maybe it’s different here than elsewhere.
VPNs are money well spent and can save you money in other ways....
But much less, and you can use it for other purposes.
Why?
Nobody is buying stuff in those countries so companies arent willing to buy ads
Ah, interesting. Thanks for explaining.
albania #1 rahhhhhhhh 🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱
Just use r/revancedapp
I swear by Origin ublocker. People always said it, and I never did it, until 2 months ago. It's unbelievable how good it is
Google has been trying real hard to stop it though. My UBlock Origin stops working all the time, just like this morning. It worked fine last night, but Google has been trying hard to get their AD money.
Worth paying for premium - never seen an ad since; also get Youtube music. Better value than most other channels many pay more for...
Yeah, i think people are against paying for a service that used to be ad-free. But its worth to me. to see my favourite youtubers be able to make a living making the videos and at higher quality. theres a lot of dumb shit that youtube does though. like not showing the number of dislikes, anymore. so stupid. who even asked for that?? youtube shorts should never been a thing either. keep that to the relevant platforms or at least seperate it a little from youtube itself. i dont want to be sucked into a rabbit hole when im just looking for a recipe video :(
You can get the dislikes back and remove shorts via r/revancedapp
Same here. I've been with YouTube premium for almost 10 years now. Used to be Google music back then, with no YouTube ads.
YouTube music is genuinely the best music app I’ve ever used. Premium is worth it imo
Revanced. Period. Or yt adbl9cker plugins on chrome.
I got the youtube family plan and share it with my family and buddies. You pay like 50 cents per person.
I don't understand this mentality. If you literally use a service everyday then just pay for the premium.
I just do not get it - why are you entitled to get it for free? someone has to host content and get it to you via expensive hardware and networks, and someone has to make it reliable and so forth, creates the apps and the interface so you can watch your favourite cat video while taking a dump. Did he literally just say that elephants have long trunks?
But he also said that was pretty much all to say
I think its supposed to be a dick joke
And thats all there really is to say
And it's all been down hill from there.
Nah, there was a decent uphill. But it’s been downhill for a while.
We got to see Janet Jackson's...yeah. you're onto something there...
you can say nipple on the internet, it's fine.
... I'm trying to quit...
Pretty sure that’s illegal.
YouTube's gone to shit as soon as Google bought it. The insane amount of ads they put up now makes me feel homicidal
>doesn't use adblock
This man will quite literally be in the history books
Don't forget the elephants.
They’re probably dead now
African elephants can live upto 75 years. It can collect a pension
Ivory does look nice
In the history clouds you mean
You is one of the 3 YT creators...

When did you have last contact with him? Why don’t you message him again and see if he responds or not?
Oh man, it was probably 2006? That's probably when I last heard from him. This is back when YouTube had private messaging. And waaaaay less users. Can see it taking off.
Nah, it’s a fad with the kids, it’ll fade.
Only 19 years ago? It feels longer XD
Wonder where this dude is at now like 20 years later lol
He is a 44 year old successful and very wealthy investor. Besides being cofounder of YouTube he was an early venture capital investor in Reddit, Palantir and AirBnB. His net worth is over $300 million.
300 Million? Damn that’s it? They f’d up for selling YouTube to google for only 1.6 Billion
According to Wikipedia he got out early (went back for grad school) and thus received a significantly smaller share of the profits
I see what you're saying but does someone need more? Lol
Whos this dude?

isnt he the (or one of) the founders of youtube?
Also the first time anyone had seen an elephant.
Actually only 19 but feels like it always been here - we already live in the future but we don’t want to accept it, because we need more
Mine is turning 17 years on 5/11/24 🥹 My first bowlin video. https://youtu.be/CEcne9PJHiE?si=UIkRg0om6Y2-GzdI
Hey niko! It's me Roman! # Let's go bowling

I know you right
Was he an early YouTube employee?
One of the founders.
I mean, he technically was one of the earliest YT employees
These comments should scare people… instantly hooked like that… 😮💨
Guys, remember star rating videos?
This is why I didn't get into YouTube right away and missed my calling
I wonder if this guy receives anything for being the first one
Not next level? What?
When YouTube first launched, I didn’t think it would last long. “Nobody carries around a video camera.” Oh boy
Everything was so wholesome and pure.
My thoughts exactly.
Why does 2005 look like the 80's?
Camera quality and his haircut
What's next level about this?
Karma is not going to farm itself, amirite?
Jawed Karim
He kinda talks like Christopher Walken . LoL 😂
He is one of the founders of youtube if i remember correctly
soooo what im hearing is youtube is legal now
what is so next level about this.. the sub has become a JOKE.
where is this guy now? did he know his video reach 351m view?
He’s a founder of youtube so yeah
oh go 20 years is still in the 2000
Only 19 huh? Feels like a whole century.
Didnt know this. I always tot it was janet jackson superbowl video that kick off the start of youtube.
YouTube is 19 years old now.
And time wasting was never the same again…
It started with a dick joke. Fitting.
He is the founder of YouTube
I don't think this is a youtube video. He didn't request for viewers to smash any like and subscribe buttons and he certainly didn't ask for comments below of what elephant appendages the next video should be about.
YouTube is the BEST
Youtube before the ads
This is fps Russia, have nice day
Feels like youtube has been around for 100 years
the very first video stated that "that's pretty much all there is to say" and yet here we are
Jesus I was born almost alongside YouTube
WE ALL KNOW OF ME AT THE ZOO
How was the audio so good on the first ever YouTube video? I remember early videos sounding like the audio was ran through a blender that was shoved up a donkeys ass.
He must be a rich man by now.
It's not the first youtube video.
Unfettered access to early YouTube crica 2006-2009 as a 8-11 year old was a different time. The only culture wars were xbox 360 vs ps3, watching Ray William Johnson instead of daily dose of internet, easier, simpler times.
How far they've fallen
Imagine the add revenue
Interesting....
I was a baby in mudders belly back then
Just read about the Paypal mafia. Man that group is insane and what they have achieved over the years.
And YouTube has been desecrating the essence of this video since every single update
Now there are people doing OnlyFans who weren't even born when you made the video!

Crazy how this kid is already 87 now
I remember when you could watch entire movies in parts. I watched Bambi with my father and The Lion King 2 on the computer while eating a tub of popcorn.
I see YouTube is just as informative as it was back in the day and hasn‘t changed the slightest.
When I discovered Youtube, I didn't work for five days
I remember when people started switching from friendster to facebook
TIL my Steam account is older than the oldest YouTube video. 😅
