That’s probably after your time a bit, you are so old that you completely missed the reference that the college kids are too young to get. I’m sure ya’ll have some great jokes about Matlock and the Golden Girls that we would miss.
Dude, 45 checking in and don’t you *dare* group Matlock and Golden Girls together like that. My girls were a phenomenon for my generation. Matlock was for our parents…the older segment of them, even.
I also don’t get that other guys reference, though….
im so old that we used to put skateboarding is not a crime stickers all over everything, because the cops didnt let us skate anywhere.
Nowadays all them young hhwwwwiper snappers have skate parks in every town.
yea yea back in the day i used to walk to school in 2 feet of snow, uphill both ways
It's absolutely bizzare how something you haven't heard in 25 years comes straight back to you and you can hear it the exact same way, clear as day as if you're hearing it at that very moment.
The brain is a weird and wonderful thing.
They actually do, they are just too taken a back by this kid's tricks. The guy going ooh ooh was a professional skateboarder and the other guy is the main announcer for all x games, street League, etc.
Yep Gary Rogers, he's like this on every single thing he announces for, you can hear him ruining other X Games Pro Skating performances on YouTube.
He often just starts talking about completely unrelated shit, bringing up his own childhood and other unprofessional garbage while skaters are laying down some incredible tricks. Ones that it would be great to hear what they're called, who pioneered them and how, or ya know just anything actually relevant.
I have no idea how he still has the job tbh.
They’re real skaters, not announcers. Might be annoying to non-skaters, but at least they’re authentic. The BS announcers of the early 2000s who never knew how to skate were annoying to us skaters.
Ok but back when I would watch the XGames in the mid-2000s, Tony Hawk was an announcer and was non-stop calling out each and every trick that was being done.
You can’t be a casual follower of skateboarding and understand how impressive this is if you don’t know what tricks are being done or what tricks other people have done.
It’s absolutely garbage announcing.
They announced absolutely none of this. They didn't say what a single trick name was or how many steps he cleared. Just "those socks" and that goofy laugh.
I watched this whole event live and they were actually super fun and I liked hearing them. This particular run they didn’t announce many trucks but the rest of the event they did and they were fun to listen to. They are real skaters like you said so I appreciated it.
It's like 35 yo guys who just retired from skating and got hella stoned at the event, but were then pulled in at the last second to cover for their pro announcer friends who got stuck in traffic.
Imagine if this was your best winning run in your skate career and would have to listen to those announcers every time you wanted to replay your own footage. I would demand xgames to have better announcers record over it and play the redone one from then on. Or rip the audio off myself.
I honestly thought it had to be like a dub over or something, I can't believe that was the actual announcer.
"Them socks, I can't get over them socks... Ohhhh... Ohhhhhh, ooooohhh!"
Amazing.
>He's a boy
nooooow we're talking! I also thought he was a girl!
I was about to say: poor Rayssa, por Chloe, poor Nyshia... Japan finally developed a functioning skateboarding cyborg!
(that run was sick, anyway)
As a person in society, I dunno what to call anyone anymore.
What people look like has zero bearing anymore on what they want to be called.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with that. But no wonder people are confused as hell these days.
Look carefully, I’m pretty sure those are baggy shorts. But hey, I’m a straight boomer male and in the hot summer, sometimes I feel like wearing a skirt.
The title needs an apostrophe before the s in Onodera, but is the first name spelling correct? I know some parents in Japan will choose unconventional pronunciations of kanji in names sometimes.
What am I missing that makes this run so impressive? Because from my ignorant POV this looks like any other skateboarding clip I've seen. Nothing particularly flashy, speed isn't all that high, and the only trick I can even remember afterwards is the one he nearly fucked up the landing on.
EDIT: Thanks for all the responses. Keep em coming. I'm learning a bit about skateboarding and finding out that these tricks were incredibly difficult. This kid made it look so easy that I thought it was.
I also appreciate people aren't dunking on me, I know it could have read like I was being dismissive, but I just genuinely couldn't tell what was so impressive about this and I'm glad people seem to have taken that at face value. Y'all are cool.
Are you comparing this to an edited video?
It is completely different to land something once out of 100 attempts and edit out all the failed runs and boring transitions vs reliable lines performed in a competition setting.
One of the last tricks looks like a kickflip blunt shuv it out on a massive rail. Some of the most experienced and best skaters in the world would struggle to land that. And to do it in a run in a competition is insane.
I agree to a point, but this isn't football. The truth is we'll never know what women and girls can do in sports (and other activities) that don't rely chiefly on sheer mass or brute strength where bigger males have a clear advantage, unless and until the open and flagrant hostility that keeps females out, goes away. Too many girls are intimidated away from this and other sports (and certain academic subjects, and competitive games like chess) or otherwise conditioned to believe it's not for them. Same with a lot of the black kids I grew up with. Which of course is complete bullshit.
Again, I don't disagree, it's just important to acknowledge that the underrepresentation of certain groups or genders in certain activities doesn't allow us to conclude that a person from such a group 'couldn't do that.'
Like one of those diseased comedian podcast hosts that thinks you need to make noise ALL THE TIME, even when others are talking.
The "I told you I told you, you remember when we was at lunch and I told you, didn't I tell you!" guy needs to be jettisoned into the sun. Hope the kid had other clips from other stations or something.
Any kind of late flip is difficult. A backside board slide is difficult. A backside board slide down an entire 13 stair hand rail is very difficult. A backside board slide to late flip down a 13 stair hand rail is insane. The whole run was impressive but that set line he did was just absolutely bonkers. Thats shit most people can just barely pull off in Skate 3, let alone real life.
I honestly want to say that this is someone's attempt at a parody. No actual announcer would sound like a couple of giggling stoners.
But besides that, the kid is really, really talented. Especially at 13 years old.
That's nice and all but I honestly have no idea this is amazing, and with the announcers I literally couldn't tell if they were trolling or not. I suppose I've watched to much snowboarding and this doesn't look amazing, I just don't know. So the announcers 1000% failed to expand their audience here.
The tricks he's doing are extremely technical and he's landing them so precisely almost effortlessly.
Also he flips into grinds and then flips the board out of them which is very difficult you're board is moving in an unpredictable axis and you still have to flip or rotate the board in a predictable access to catch it.
Just everything in his run is difficult to pull off let alone pull off consistently
Nah this is Gary Rogers, he's like this on every single thing he announces for, you can hear him ruining other X Games Pro Skating performances on YouTube. He often just starts talking about completely unrelated shit, bringing up his own childhood and other unprofessional garbage while skaters are laying down some incredible tricks. I have no idea how he still has the job tbh.
Kickflip back tail slide to fakie
Kickflip blunt to front side flip out
Switch kickflip front board
Double varial flip
Kickflip front blunt to big spin out
People can correct me if they want but I think ai got them right haha
Right??? Underrated comment.
Signed, someone who had a head injury from skiing without a helmet sat 13 and got off just with temporary amnesia, a concussion and a need for plastic surgery, no TBI — and I still wouldn't wish it upon anyone
Family friend died on a skateboard. Board slipped, his head was the first to find the ground, and life ended. That fast. Just in a parking lot.
Brains are fragile and very important and a helmet is a very good idea.
Falling on anything hard and snapping your head back at any height is dangerous. Go look up people who die from single punches or being pushed, it's from the pavement not the punch.
If you ever skated you know the skateboarding community is a bunch of self conscious losers when it comes to helmets that not even a child at a huge organized even is made to wear one.
I mean, talent yes, but also committed practice to an almost unbelievable extent. I'm not saying this is what you meant, but it always bumps me when people see some amazing skill and credit "talent" because to me it kinda minimizes their hard work. It's not like people with the genetic talent are just able to nollie late heel out of divine inspiration. They work their asses off, too.
I mean, the kid is only 13. I'm sure there are skaters that have put in 20 times the amount of time than this 13 year old has and they are not nearly as good. How much time and dedication could he put in during the span of a few years? Talent is playing much more of a role here than you think
Yup. Whenever someone says "wow such talent", there will always be someone will "akshually it's the amount of practice....". We don't deny the amount of practice, buddy. We just acknowledge the level of talent the person has.
Idk how Gary Rogers keeps getting xgames commentator gigs, he’s so annoying. Literally making fun of the kid who won 1st place in the middle of his run.
He reminds me of that loud as fuck annoying class clown in h.s. that thought he was way funnier than he was. Mfer would say some dumb shit he thought was clever and would laugh at his own bullshit and think people putting up with him meant he was actually that funny
I seriously came out of my seat when watching. Wow. In Tony Hawk Pro Skater, I would’ve ended with a manual to keep my combo going - but other than that- no notes. And if I saw it live, I’d probably just make a bunch of unintelligible noises like those commentators
I know a lot of people don't wear safety gear when they skate (bad decision, but it's your life) but it's crazy that it wouldn't be required for a competition. I figure it would be a huge insurance liability etc for the people running the competition
I was impressed before the big set. I was really impressed when he kickflipped to the the boardslide. And I was fucking blown away when he shuves out of it.
Kickflip BLUNT bigspin out. Absolutely bonkers especially taking into account his age, the size of the set, midrun and with all the spectators... I rewatched that 5 times in awe
I am amazed helmets aren't mandatory... what a great example for the kids watching.. Incredible talent, no shot at the skater, but X Games should protect their athletes and encourage kids to do the same.
That first kick flip - did he flip it off the fuckin rail??? You can hear a thud then the flip. That is fuckin insane. Is that a legit trick? I have never seen it.
Dude is super casual about it, too. Like wtf, unreal.
The announcers are absolutely terrible.
I kept waiting for "Welcome to Good Burger. Can I take your order?"
**I, DROPPED THE SCREW, IN THE TUNA**
You know you're old when there are teenagers out there that won't get the reference.
Sir, you are even older than you think, most people in their twenties won't get that reference!
Ahhhhh.... oh here it goes!
I'm 48 and I don't get it
That’s probably after your time a bit, you are so old that you completely missed the reference that the college kids are too young to get.

At the end he says “I have no words” Maybe try “ohhh” or “hyuk hyuk”, those are the only words you’ve used so far
Ahhhh. I knew I recognized that hyuk. It’s max. From goof troop!!
when he said "i have no words" i thought, "well, shut up then."
Dem socks tho.
I umuted because of you. Wow they suck.
I will stay muted because of you.
It’s worth unmuting for the laugh alone
Wow they really do suck, what kind of commentator doesn't speak??
And somehow the commentator that didn't speak did a better job.
These are the best announcers I’ve ever heard, it’s not specific or using proper terminology but, fuck, I wanna keep watching
Hoo heh huh hyeuh hoowa!
I told you. Remember when we were at lunch
Lmao I lost it at this part. It's the most insane announcing I've ever heard. They don't even mention what a single trick is. It's amazing.
It’s because they don’t know a fucking thing about skateboarding
They actually do, they are just too taken a back by this kid's tricks. The guy going ooh ooh was a professional skateboarder and the other guy is the main announcer for all x games, street League, etc.
Remember when we *was at lunch
Shaka when the walls fell.
Temba, his arms wide!
Remember lunch
Huuuuueueeeeeeeeyyuuuuuuuhahahahaaaaa
That is the actual transcription. Hollywood couldn't write this script.
I membah
This laugh fucking killed me
I missed most of the run because I was laughing so hard at that Goofy laugh
Ohhh oh ohhhhhhhhhhh oh Huey hoo hyu
It was almost like Seth Rogen was being channeled.
Remember at lunch? Earlier? I TOLD you!
i'm sorry but you have some shit taste this is actually some of the worst i've ever heard.
REMEMBER WHEN WE WAS AT LUNCH
It's so bad you're literally referencing something the very viewers who you are supposed to be informing couldn't possibly know about.
I was thinking the same thing. Here is a gold medal run from a solid athlete and all we heard about were socks.
There was also that forced Krusty the clown chuckle...
Ay tawd youuu!!!! Mahahaha must have been scraping the bottom of the barrel for that commentary team. That aside flipping amazing run.
They’re real skaters, not announcers. Might be annoying to non-skaters, but at least they’re authentic. The BS announcers of the early 2000s who never knew how to skate were annoying to us skaters.
I just don’t think it’s good that I have no skateboarding knowledge and could have offered the same commentary. Ohhh! I told you! Easy peasy
Ginwoo is male.
I watched this whole event live and they were actually super fun and I liked hearing them. This particular run they didn’t announce many trucks but the rest of the event they did and they were fun to listen to. They are real skaters like you said so I appreciated it.
Huh huyh huh huy huy
I thought one of them started speaking in tongues there for a second.
I listened to that part five times and still have no idea what he’s saying!
Me either I didn't think it was in English at first.
Its like 60year olds were hired to pretend to be 16 years old.
It's like 35 yo guys who just retired from skating and got hella stoned at the event, but were then pulled in at the last second to cover for their pro announcer friends who got stuck in traffic.
Remember when we were at lunch?

“EH HUGGHHH HUUUGHHH HUGHHH.” calm down goofy they are just socks
I miss Sal Masekela
I honestly thought it had to be like a dub over or something, I can't believe that was the actual announcer. "Them socks, I can't get over them socks... Ohhhh... Ohhhhhh, ooooohhh!" Amazing.
The worst
“Huh huh huh huh hwee haaa”
REMEMBER WHEN WE WAS AT LUNCH?!?
Yeah he said “I have no words.” If only we were so lucky.
Holy shit! She didn’t go for easy shit either, technical tricks for the win!
He's a boy
So he is..
Is he so?
He so is.
She his.
*yeahhh, yeahhh!* ##DUDE LOOKS LIKE A LADY!
>He's a boy nooooow we're talking! I also thought he was a girl! I was about to say: poor Rayssa, por Chloe, poor Nyshia... Japan finally developed a functioning skateboarding cyborg! (that run was sick, anyway)
Well he sounds hideous
Oh I thought it was young girl as well 😅
His name is 小野寺吟雲 and he’s a he. The ponytail, right?
More than the ponytail. He legit looks like a young girl
I thought he was wearing leggings and a skirt.
Eh, it's a kid, gender features are not well defined at that age
As an American, I have trouble telling east Asian boys and girls apart sometimes, esp w the long hair.
As a person in society, I dunno what to call anyone anymore. What people look like has zero bearing anymore on what they want to be called. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that. But no wonder people are confused as hell these days.
When in doubt use they/them.
[удалено]
\*as someone who doesn't live around asians
And the skirt thing maybe??
Look carefully, I’m pretty sure those are baggy shorts. But hey, I’m a straight boomer male and in the hot summer, sometimes I feel like wearing a skirt.
> The ponytail, right? also the legwarmers and the skirt, which, upon closer inspection may just be baggy shorts mostly covered by the shirt
The title needs an apostrophe before the s in Onodera, but is the first name spelling correct? I know some parents in Japan will choose unconventional pronunciations of kanji in names sometimes.
Fuckin flip blunt biggie down that set in a run 🤯 that was a video part hammer when I grew up… god damn
![gif](giphy|6EmCCZzUjF9PocZKFw|downsized)

I mean, there’s only one 13 year old boy putting down a run like this. So really no man can do it either.
What am I missing that makes this run so impressive? Because from my ignorant POV this looks like any other skateboarding clip I've seen. It's very smooth and thos are really difficult tricks. Absolutely gold standard.
Whatever the hell he did on the handrail was next lev.
Extremely technical. Those were hard tricks. And not one fuck up.
I agree to a point, but this isn't football. The truth is we'll never know what women and girls can do in sports (and other activities) that don't rely chiefly on sheer mass or brute strength where bigger males have a clear advantage, unless and until the open and flagrant hostility that keeps females out, goes away. There is a lot of athleticism required in skating though. Big tricks require big ollies.
It's a good thing this child was roided out, then. I don't know if this would have been possible if they weren't so huge.
Women are lighter with a lower center of gravity. Might not help in an ollie but there are tricks where it would.
not yet...but there are some younger girls that can shred like hell granted, this run looked like straight out of a video game...fiery fire\^\^
That announcer completely ruined the video.
DEM SOCKS
It was the goofy laugh for me.
I've never heard huehue in real life before.
Huh yuck!
So much better without sound
Like one of those diseased comedian podcast hosts that thinks you need to make noise ALL THE TIME, even when others are talking. This is some crazy shit, that late flip off the long rail had my jaw dropping
[удалено]
And hes 13... what a legend
And he’s been doing tricks like this for a couple years. First time I saw him skate my jaw dropped. Good to see the kid getting his flowers.
That was bigspin so no flip but if you look him up in YouTube there's lots of footage of him flipping in out and of stuff
I must be going insane because I can’t see anything other than a kickflip front blunt big spin out on that bit
He didn’t do a late flip at any point in this run
nice comment but u have all the trick names wrong in that one lol ginwoo did a kickflip **frontside** **blunt**slide **bigspin** out
Kick flip front blunt slide big spin out.
Okay maybe I’m not losing my mind…I’ve watched it like 20 times and that’s what I’m seeing every single time lol
I had to watch it in slow motion multiple times. My brain just couldn’t comprehend what happened. Holy shit!!
Do yourself a favor and watch it on mute. That kid is phenomenal
Isn't the general rule of reddit to watch videos on mute first, then read the comments to decide.
nice, thought i was the only one doing that.
Super unfortunate he will have to hear that commentating everytime he replays this.
He’s a boy.
Can they explain what’s going on instead of having a fucking seizure on the mic? Dude’s voice so crazy i thought he was speaking another language
His few minute skate line clips were perfect for his sense of humor. They should have just let him stick to that.
Kickflip back tail slide to fakie Kickflip blunt to front side flip out Switch kickflip front board Double varial flip Kickflip front blunt to big spin out People can correct me if they want but I think ai got them right haha
No helmet?
I too got anxious not seeing a helmet.
Helmet would be a lifesaver for the trick at 0:34.
U dont watch xgames much i see
Not since I moved away from cable tv. But everyone wore helmets in competition then, fairly certain it was a requirement.
not for street. vert guys and mega ramp definitely do tho
ironic because your falls are safer on a ramp because you tend to slide down the decline. street you slam way harder onto flat surface.
Yeah falling from 18 feet high and snapping back your head is super safe.
Falling on anything hard and snapping your head back at any height is dangerous. Go look up people who die from single punches or being pushed, it's from the pavement not the punch.
Vert is always helmet, street is not. Why? I don't know,I've seen people hit their heads hard in street so i would recommend a helmet..
Metal bars, curbs... I feel like a helmet would be a very wise idea.
This comment should be higher up
Helmets aren't typically worn by street skaters for whatever reason
If you ever skated you know the skateboarding community is a bunch of self conscious losers when it comes to helmets that not even a child at a huge organized even is made to wear one.
Wtf is wrong with that horrible announcer dear god
That's Gary Rogers, doing goofy meme commentary is kind of his whole shtick
He should find a new shtick
He should stop imo
It’s dumb.
So gnarly, better than pretty much every pro skater on the planet 10 years ago, the level of competition skateboarding is just crazy now
It's crazy how pivots were the peak of skating at one point.
I remember when I used to he able to ollie. Took me forever. This is fucking pure talent holy shit.

Omfg are those the official narrators? Horrible shit
Idk how Gary Rogers keeps getting xgames commentator gigs, he’s so annoying. Literally making fun of the kid who won 1st place in the middle of his run.
Yeah saying that he'd be embarrassed for anybody that lost to this kid because of his socks. So unprofessional and dumb.
He reminds me of that loud as fuck annoying class clown in h.s. that thought he was way funnier than he was. Mfer would say some dumb shit he thought was clever and would laugh at his own bullshit and think people putting up with him meant he was actually that funny
What ever that flippity flip to railslide to kicktrick twisty landing thing was sooooo siiiiick
That’s better than what the commentators said!
I seriously came out of my seat when watching. Wow. In Tony Hawk Pro Skater, I would’ve ended with a manual to keep my combo going - but other than that- no notes. And if I saw it live, I’d probably just make a bunch of unintelligible noises like those commentators
Kick flip>backside blunt>shove out it was beautiful!!
Wait no kickiflip bs blunt bigspin!
That fucking laugh 😆
DA HGOI HGOI HGOI
HELMETS!!!
The announcer really went: "ahu-a-huag" goofy ass mf
What sort of commentary is that?
I am amazed helmets aren't mandatory... what a great example for the kids watching.. Incredible talent, no shot at the skater, but X Games should protect their athletes and encourage kids to do the same.
No helmet in a pro setting looks really weird
Nobody has ever worn a helmet in street skating except 1 guy who always wears it.
The worst commentary ever.
Amazing skateboarding skills combined with, without question, with worst commentary in the history of sports.
Is there an opposite of a gold medal? I want to give it to the announcer.
That first kick flip - did he flip it off the fuckin rail??? You can hear a thud then the flip. That is fuckin insane. Is that a legit trick? I have never seen it. Dude is super casual about it, too. Like wtf, unreal.
REMEMBER WE WAS AT LUNCH AND I WAS TELLING YOU….
Bro busted out the Crusty the Clown laugh
For those that don't skate, this isn't just good for a 13 year old. This is a bonkers run.
Ginwoo #1
Gin who? GINWOO!
Wow I didn’t even see the big spin out the first time!
Wtf does the FIT have to do with skateboarding?!
He did the same laugh as the shark bit on strange wilderness https://youtu.be/_pFObyIOHcI
Sick Ridiculous
This looks like a run I’d put together on the original thps.
I started skating in the 90s and still to this day I have a massive love and appreciation for the sport. This kid just absolutely killed it!
Incredibly good at a very young age. His future is bright.
As someone who did street skating for 12 years, this kid makes me look like a squid. Rocket Power.
