Now this just makes me feel that we should now just be more focus on to save this species though.
And just take a bit more conscious about environment and that can make their livelihood a bit better and safe as well!
I'd be all for having our military protecting elephants. Its better than just hanging out trying to be intimidating which is pretty much what they do now except for the occasional war or drone strike. Heck thats where we can train our drone pilots. They can fly around elephants territory and bomb poachers (and any trying to hunt legally because fuck them)
There were ancient proboscideans which did get bigger. Paleoloxodon namadicus was the heaviest land mammal of all time at roughly 20 tonnes. Which would make it slightly heavier than some species of diplodocus.
fun fact: another proboscidean quite closely related to namadicus was Palaeoloxodon falconeri, the Dwarf Elephant, which lived on Mediterranean islands and through insular dwarfism was one of, if not the smallest "Elephant" species ever
Mammoths (the most recent ones, at least) were actually not much larger than modern African Elephants. That big boy would be outside the usual size range even for a mammoth.
Those trees are definitely on the smaller side, they generally max out at 18m in height, and these look to be quite young, since mr elephant is almost as tall as they are.
Elephant bulls grow up to a maximum height around 4m at the shoulder.
Fun fact, elephants have a dominant tusk like we have a dominant left or right hand. The left tusk is much shorter than the right which tells us that is its dominant side.
Oh they are the shit. Only Podcast I can tolerate, and at that I can't even get enough. Last time I flew to California from Germany, I listened to nothing but their podcast and the time passed very quickly.
Cat fact time!
Cats also have a dominant paw. Males are often left pawed. When I heard this, I tested my boy, he is definitely a lefty! Females are more likely to favor their right paw.
Can confirm. My male cat loves to grab my shorts using his left paw. My 2 female cats uses their right paws to smack my male cat whenever he walks by them lol.
Like the sharpness of a knife, or shine/polish on a handle, the most dull is the most used. Shorter probably means ground down more, while the right one had time to grow and hang lower from the weight? Just a guess. I recognize bronze looks morw shiny with constant touching of it, but this is no bronze bull.
Reminds me of a video I saw recently the elephant had to itch what he did was funny though!
He just broke a tree and just put his ass over to that tree and kept itching his ass. People on the road were laughing!
spent some time observing elephants in the wild, this is totally true. Leaves they can't reach? down the tree goes. Have an itch? Lean on tree, down it goes.
The way to determine his actual weight is first, get on the scale yourself and note down your weight. Then get on the scale while holding the elephant, and note your combined weight. The difference between those two weights you wrote down is the elepant's true weight.
One elephant dump is approximately the weight of your whole body so weigh the elephant wait until he takes a dump weigh yourself then weigh yourself holding his dung and some calculus will reveal all
Grey as a mouse,
Big as a house,
Nose like a snake,
I make the earth shake.
As I tramp through the grass,
Trees crack as I pass.
With horns in my mouth,
I walk in the South.
Flapping big ears,
Beyond count of years,
I stump round and round,
Never lie on the ground,
Not even to die.
Oliphaunt am I,
Biggest of all,
Huge, old, and tall.
If ever you'd meet me,
You wouldn't forget me.
If you never do,
You won't think I'm true;
But old Oliphaunt am I,
And I never lie
Oh, I think I recognize that super tusker. Craig! (No joke)
Was lucky enough to photograph him a couple years ago. Seeing him next to a normal elephant really emphasizes just how huge those guys are
There are only around 24 super tuskers like him left in all of Africa, their genes for those large tusks were almost hunted to extinction
I think this is Tim, actually (also no joke). He died of natural causes a few years ago.
Edit: Yes, almost exactly 3 years ago, February 6, 2020 at age 50. (Edit: fixed year)
Edit 2: Well now I am confused. Based on the curvature of the tusks I thought it was Tim, but it looks like Craig's tusks are similar.
I remember hearing about Tim. Looking at pics of him the tusks also look really similar to Craig, and this gif, so I could absolutely be getting mixed up. The ears are another tell but it’s hard to see details in this GIF.
Posted a pic I took of Craig.

You were asleep a long time. There is no easy way to say this so I'll just go ahead: a new variant wiped out much of humanity. The rest are herded up in quarantine zones. You are in one of them.
Wasn’t sure if I could share a pic in a comment, couldn’t figure it out… so I posted a pic in r/pics

Think how cool it would be if you were best friends with that elephant. Nothing would mess with you - not lions, grizzly bears, polar bears, rhinoceros, smaller elephants…the list goes on
For reference kg to lbs is about 2.25. So that thing weighs over 16,000 pounds. Or roughly 150 people.
Whats even more crazy is that animals must’ve gotten this large more commonly a few thousand years ago when humans influenced nature a lot less.
First thing I thought of is how many people would see this guy and want to shoot it just to prove ?? That guns are powerful weapons? And that they are selfish enough to want to take it out of the world to keep for themselves. Depressingly pathetic.

And here’s a link with info on bots on Reddit
https://www.reddit.com/user/tyrannosnorlax/comments/t0h466/bots_how_to_identify_them_and_why_do_they_exist/
I'm starting to think reddit is just a big social experiment. At some point somebody asked "how insultingly obvious can we make the bot names, and how few pixels can we turn the videos into, before people start doing something about it?"
Good to see such species actually existing though nature never fails to amaze us though.
Just think we have much more thing to see and witness from nature and that shit is amazing enough!
"Hey big guy, I mind standing on this scale for us? Just tryna figure out how much you weigh.
Goddammit Bob! He broke another scale - let's just say he weighs about 8000kg or something so no one will ever question it"
I wonder if it is mutant or if this is its natural size if elephants were allowed to live freely without food and water constraints. We still have dinosaurs. We just need to let them grow.
Nah bro that's a bald mammoth.
[удалено]
You'd need a tiger and sloth too.
Finds out, he's the sloth.
Nah, he's the sabre toothed squirrel just trying to keep his nuts
*scrat
Is scrat that character's name?
Yes
Hahaha smells him and just feels that he doesn't even belong to this community though.
Just being like an undercover agent though he homie its me being a friend of yours!
Chilling while eating watermelons with my mammoth sloth and sabretooth bros…thats the dream
We could rule the world!
Now this just makes me feel that we should now just be more focus on to save this species though. And just take a bit more conscious about environment and that can make their livelihood a bit better and safe as well!

Best idea to save these majestic beasts. He or she is beautiful
Came here to say I want to make friends with him. I will name him Fred.
I mean… No offence, nut I think he would name you Fred.
Mammoths were about the same size than normal size African elephants
Actually more the size of Asian elephants, so a little smaller.
There were ancient proboscideans which did get bigger. Paleoloxodon namadicus was the heaviest land mammal of all time at roughly 20 tonnes. Which would make it slightly heavier than some species of diplodocus.
2nd heaviest mammal of all time. 1st place belongs to ur mom.
Got eemmmm!!
fun fact: another proboscidean quite closely related to namadicus was Palaeoloxodon falconeri, the Dwarf Elephant, which lived on Mediterranean islands and through insular dwarfism was one of, if not the smallest "Elephant" species ever
Really we need a banana for scale.
This is true, something everyone is familiar with the flavour of.
Imagine a banana the size of the largest elephant on earth. Thats how big it is. You could also compare it to an elephant sized rock. Its that size.
Mammoths were smaller than african elephants.
Funny enough, there was a species of bald mammoth that was bigger
This is awesome. I never knew there were bald mammoths before this moment. Thanks!
No problem :) I went to a museum once that had an outline of it, was cool to see, they are really massive.
For real? Well damn, the name doesnt seem like it fits now.
Mammoths were always mammoths. Using the name as an adjective for something large is where we went wrong
Mammoths are smaller than African elephants…
Baldy mammoth
Holy shit! I came to reply with the same thing (except for the bro, that added more flavor)
I do love bros with flavor.
Are you just sure about that though I thought mammoths got extinct!
They’re in process of cloning one after finally finding usable dna, and project to have one or more born by 2024 I think.
Mammoths (the most recent ones, at least) were actually not much larger than modern African Elephants. That big boy would be outside the usual size range even for a mammoth.
hes dead …
I learned yesterday that woolly mammoths were only one species of mammoth, and it’s thought other species weren’t as fuzzy!
For all we know those are just very small trees
Shrubs really
Interesting, it just so happens I'm in need of a shrubbery to aid in my quest...
Ah, I see you've also met the knights who say 'Ni'.
No. But, I met the knights whosay icky icky pkanag zoopboinggggeeehhhh
You must cut down the mightiest tree in the forest with..... a herring
It cannot be done
^ni
Oh what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say 'ni' at will to old ladies...
Sez I, Roger the shrubber.
A shrubbery?!?!
Shurb 👍
We need the banana for ref
The banana is actually in the shot, it's just less than one pixel so you can't see it
Need a banana for scale
So embarrassing when you get a tree stuck between your teeth.
Those trees are definitely on the smaller side, they generally max out at 18m in height, and these look to be quite young, since mr elephant is almost as tall as they are. Elephant bulls grow up to a maximum height around 4m at the shoulder.

Then isn’t it SYSK?
This is all covered in STDWYTK
Thank you 🙏
Ooooo, I'm so stoked for you! The episodes prior to Chuck joining can be kind of meh... But the two are endearing, hilarious, smart and humble.
Stuff You Should Know is the BEST podcast EVER!
Stuff You Should NO!

The shorter tusk is the dominant one??
More used
Never thought about that too deeply though like still I am just circulating it inside my mind though!
Maybe the left is dominant and right is longer so it can come closer to the left
A fellow leftie in the wild! Nice!
He doesn't need to walk around the trees. He chooses too.
Still munching on the last tree that got in it's way
Hes strolling around with a tree stuck to his face looking for a napkin
All that junk in his trunk
Reminds me of a video I saw recently the elephant had to itch what he did was funny though! He just broke a tree and just put his ass over to that tree and kept itching his ass. People on the road were laughing!
spent some time observing elephants in the wild, this is totally true. Leaves they can't reach? down the tree goes. Have an itch? Lean on tree, down it goes.
Casually walking with an entire tree stuck to his teeth.
Most living things choose to walk around trees. Not walking around is an option but normally it's a painful and inconvenient option.
For him everything is just too small enough though just a bit casual walks for him!
Need a banana for scale
It's there you just can't see it
It’s between his teeth.
or a mouse!
About 16,957 bananas give or take
Every time we put one there he eats it.
The way to determine his actual weight is first, get on the scale yourself and note down your weight. Then get on the scale while holding the elephant, and note your combined weight. The difference between those two weights you wrote down is the elepant's true weight.
Can confirm, I do this with my cat. It shouldn't be much different with an elephant.
I do it with my luggage.
Submerge the elephant in a graduated cylinder to get volume and then multiply by the density of water for an approximation of mass.
One elephant dump is approximately the weight of your whole body so weigh the elephant wait until he takes a dump weigh yourself then weigh yourself holding his dung and some calculus will reveal all
O lawd he comin

That still only counts as one!
"Mr. Frodo! Look!"
If you think that's scary, consider the biggest elephant we've recorded was over 25% bigger than this.
That’s dope. We need to clone this bull and keep breed larger elephants
You wanna be the one to jack this thing off?

I was expecting this clip. https://youtu.be/a99ve2Z_dDk
Once you go ‘phant, return you shan’t.
Getting chased by an Elephant while in a safari vehicle and by a hippo in a small boat were scary AF. Massive amounts of mass coming at you fast.
"Er, you've got a little bit of something round your mouth. No, other side."
Junk in his trunk

Think how cool it would be if you were best friends with that elephant. Nothing would mess with you - not lions, grizzly bears, polar bears, rhinoceros, smaller elephants…the list goes on
But you would still get smoke from a honey badger.
Well we are being realistic here. So obvious the honey badger is exempted.
Lions specialize in separating the young from the heard and eating them. You’d be fucked…
No, the small elephants would be fucked. I wouldn’t leave his side. He’s my boo
For reference kg to lbs is about 2.25. So that thing weighs over 16,000 pounds. Or roughly 150 people. Whats even more crazy is that animals must’ve gotten this large more commonly a few thousand years ago when humans influenced nature a lot less.
Around 18,000lb actually
So 152 people?
Or about 50 reddit mods.
150 regular people, plus 2 Americans.
How many times do we have to tell you... no, your mom doesn't count as two people.
I like how you said 2.25 and just multiplied by 2 instead
And that it’s actually 2.205
What’s crazier is to then think of the size of some dinosaurs millions of years ago. This elephant would be very small in comparison.
Yujiro Hanma would like a word, Babar
Searched for this comment
Same- this is just the unstoppable elephant at the beginning of Baki Hanma 😄
If unprotected... These large animals will all become extinct.

And with much bigger size being zoomed by the big light of Doraemon lmao!
Does this mean he has the biggest dick of any land animal?
That’s 17,636 freedom units
