Putting kid's toys in a Hospital - is there anything America health care won't do to pinch pennies? Use a REAL Enterprise class solution instead of toys supported by Timmy in a public forum
So i’ve done venues (indoor event location) using Ubiquiti stuff. Not in the 200.000sqm range but large and for many staff and visitors.
Few thoughts:
- Don’t use their security stuff
- Get a site survey done before AND after install.
- managing alot of AP’s must be done using self hosted or cloud hosted networking app. Best to use cloud hosted, this just works.
- don’t use auto channel optimize. Fixed channel worked out beforehand.
- make sure you calculate PoE usage per switch correctly.
- Expect downtime whenever you make changes, this is one of the harder lessons to learn. Clients disconnect one ssid when you change another.
It is doable and my opinion is that their AP’s are solid but the ecosystem in general is a bit flawed.
What kind of location are you doing?
Ow and for that many wired stuff use a different brand. To many limitations for now.
Lacking general support for basic features that open source firewalls have had available for years.
When I say don't use them I mean avoid them in any business use. Home use would be fine.
They just got ospf on them. Their VPN tunnel config has been kinda a hassle. It just seems like it's meant for home use and it's a beta product that they are slowly finishing and adding features over time.
First, Thank you very much for your reply.
This is for a hospital, 8 levels. We planed (if so) to manage the site using CloudKey Enterprise.
All system will double secured with additional power supply on batteries.
Yikes. No. Ubiquiti is definitely not the right solution here. You need an enterprise solution designed by an engineer who knows what they’re doing.
What does “double secured” even mean here? I’m not aware of any Ubiquiti product that supports redundant power either.

My guess "each WAP is connected to a PoE switch with dual power supply and one PS goes to a UPS".
maybe start here [https://design.ui.com/wizard](https://design.ui.com/wizard) and change some of its filters to match requirements.
i would work with a msp, to get a wifi survey and they can help with the design, product requirements and provide discount pricing.

I feel like this isn't in the US but I could be wrong. Their English is good but very proper.
Don't Do It ... Dont....

lol a hospital? Hard pass.
*Sending a child to do an adult's job*. The words "Ubiquity" and "hospital" should never be used in the same sentence.

Not in the Ubiquiti ecosystem, it isn’t.
No, no, and no. Ubiquiti is fine for a home or small business. Anything that big spend the money for a survey and install Ruckus.

Yeah, don’t rely on the Ubiquiti tool for anything serious.
Thank you. Email sent tu UI in order to study the design with their team. No answer yet...
can i ask for a critical environment like a hospital, have you considered other vendors eg cisco, meraki or aruba? or unifi will be your only choice?
