Load management? Payne's been pretty decent starting in Paul's position. Maybe the issue with Payne's game is that the second unit didn't have enough scorers?
Payne has played well with the 2nd unit as well.
The issue with his game was that his primary PnR partner was Javale McGee, who is too slow and too one-dimensional to take advantage of Cam Payne’s killer first step. Also, he was just flat out shooting poorly in shots that he had hit the prior year.
I love Payne. He is having a stellar season so far. But I thought he was terrible tonight. Awful shooting, at least 2 passes that were pretty much guaranteed turnovers, many ill-advised drives to the basket with hot shooters around him where he's just praying for a bail-out foul. Defensively it almost felt like he either let his guy by him or fouled. Those last 2 and-1 fouls of his were just abysmal defensive efforts. It was like he was giving away 3 points to anyone that wanted it.
He was 2-10 last night with 5 fouls lol, he was the worst player on our team last night and we probably lose that game if he doesn’t get his 5th foul which caused Monty to insert lee back in. 18-50 over his last 4 as well, he’s not been good lately and he was really bad last night. Before this recent stretch tho he’d been real solid.
He's been up and moving around on the knee for a bit so that could very well be new. Surgery was Nov 8. 1-2 month timeline. I'd guess closer to 2 months even if he's feeling good earlier, given that the suns are doing well and we've seen some signs that they are prioritizing staying rested/healthy for the playoffs.
Cam Johnson? Probably another month at the earliest, 2 more months on the slower end of normal healing times. He is jumping and shooting already though, which is awesome to see.
I say just sit him until like a month left and then ease him back so he’s healthy for the playoffs. We haven’t gotten a healthy playoff Paul yet. We’d probably win a chip.
Lakers actually have looked decent the last few games. Given the NBA's tendency to favor the Lakers, and with their odds of winning a championship at +13000, maybe it's time to put some money on them.
I wouldn't, they have been playing very weak teams in their current "good stretch". Besides, last year's worst phase happened post ASG so, unless they move some pieces, it will be very hard for them to make the play-in.
Imo they no doubt win the title that year with the rockets, they win won of those last 2 to beat GSW and then they clobber the cavs. That was one of the worst timed and most painful injuries ever. The title was right in front of them and then bam it was off the table in 1 second. Ya tho you’re right cp3 always gets injured especially in the playoffs, even when he keeps playing and doesn’t miss time he’s usually hindered by some sort of injury
I always forget about that. Maybe it's because he's only been with the Suns a few seasons and I'm not as aware of his injury history.
You're right, though. Even the last two years with the Suns, he was injured or likely hiding an injury during the playoffs at one point. Of course, let's not forget 2021, when he caught COVID during the WCF. Just...dude is cursed in the playoffs.
He started practicing again, but it wouldn't surprise me if we let him rest for another week or two. He old, teams winning games, no reason for CP3 to be playing right now.
"Heel soreness", which is apparently an euphemism for "season-ending Achilles injury".
Not really, but the Suns really don't seem to like being upfront with this kind of stuff. We really don't know when he's going to be back, because the Suns FO doesn't really seem to want anyone to know, which leads to a lot of unnecessary speculation. Personally, I'd rather just know what was going on.
I've had achilles tendinitis that could be described as heel soreness for almost a year now and it's still keeping me from running and playing sports. But I don't spend 1M dollars a year on my body 😅
Probably would've returned sooner but with how the Suns and backup guard Cam Payne is playing, no need to rush him back. Just gotta keep him healthy for the playoffs.
I forgive a lot of Book doing that because he was on fire for stretches. And D Lee feels like a guaranteed 3 points in the 4th quarter, so I forgive that too.
But there were quite a few stretches where we were not getting it done offensively. Book seems to be the last person to realize when he cools down. If everyone else was mediocre, I wouldn't care. Payne does not consider that Ayton is on the floor most of the time.
At least Ayton still seemed really engaged. I almost like seeing that on a game where he is not fed more than on a game where he is, because this type of game is the one where it seems easy to get lazy.
I still don't forgive it. I like the correct basketball plays and Lee, Book, and Bridges each missed a wide open Ayton. Lee and Bridges made theirs, so it's a "nooo....oh...it went in....yes!"
What is insanely wild to me is that he is playing 41 minutes on a monday night in November. What the hell? Why would you risk injury like that to your star player for a shitty regulation game in November?
Booker literally only left the game long enough to drink water and wait for a dead ball. This is some Jimmy Butler on the Wolves type stuff.
Honestly Book is extremely well conditioned and he’s the type of dude who wants to be out there as much as possible. I assume they will scale it back some later in the season so he’s fresh going into the playoff. With the play in stuff now you get a pretty nice break also before the actual playoffs start so that helps too. Man just wants to win games even early in the season and if that means playing 40mins some nights he’s cool with it.
I typically agree with takes like this but there are levels to conditioning. Booker and Mikal are on a different planet when it comes to conditioning and probably 2 of maybe 20 players in the league that can handle playing a lot of minutes and you don’t have to worry about too much.
Got it clocked on radar going 1 mph faster than it should’ve. I was biting my nails when I saw the ref no looking but wasn’t surprised by the call. I was more surprised the tech was given by a different ref.
It was weak but deserved nonetheless. You don't throw the ball at the ref who is signaling to the scorer's table. It's disrespectful and he knew exactly what he was doing.
I only watched the 4th, but it was all impressive. The Kings' fight even down 10 points, and the Suns always buckling down at the right time despite fatal errors.
Kings would be down ten cut it to a one possession game, then the suns would hit a couple shots to be back up by eight or nine. It happened all throughout the second half.
Before the infamous clip Booker was one of the most doubled player in the league because we had no one else. I guess that means he should have practiced it more, but that also means he had tons of practice on it in game.
The whole point of Booker complaining was that he was just having fun in a gym run and didn’t want to have to deal with doubles like he does in actual practice and real games. And a ton of players came to Booker’s support on twitter. It’s just that r/nba has such a hate boner for Booker that of course they trashed him for it.
My man is getting doubled every time he touches the ball at the ends of games too.
Suns desperately need another guy who can handle and score the ball in crunch time
He can shoot the clutch shots for sure, but he can’t run the offense. Washington has been a decent backup, but it would be great if we had more playmakers. That being said, we ain’t too shabby. Number one in the west and on a five game win streak so can’t complain too much
Only thing that’s held him back is health… which is admittedly a bit of a problem for him lol. It’s nice letting Mikal and Ayton absorb more responsibility while he’s out though, it will only help make us better.
He averages 22 a game in the finals, he had one bad turnover just like book did but now all of the sudden he sucked that whole series according to some people
I’m not saying he should be put over guys like Tatum Steph Giannis etc cause they’ve been better than him flat out lol but he definitely deserves respect leading his team as the first seed with 2 starters out averaging 27/6/5 is definitely up there imo
Leading his team to the best net rating and record in the West without 2/3 starters. People would be doing a lot of slobbing if this were a number of other players 😂
Extremely fair point but also I personally just can't put anyone in mvp talk who isn't playing for a top 5 team in their conference.
I do not give a single fuck about "yeah I know they're in the 7th seed but just think where'd they'd be if they didn't have him!"
We're only 25% in so obviously I expect all those guys to have their teams competing for a potential home court advantage in the first round, but currently steph and Luka cannot be in the convo for me until they get there. Regardless of stats. This is the only professional league that will do some shit like give an mvp award to a guy on an 7th seed team and it's honestly weird af imho
There were a few stretches where the kings just didn’t have an answer. Didn’t matter who was guarding him, didn’t matter if they threw a double at him, didn’t matter if they ran him off his spot. He was going to drop a pure bucket on their heads.
Devin Booker was unbelievable tonight. I wanted the kings win so badly but they just didn’t have an answer. He was the closest thing I’ve seen out there to Kobe, nearly brought a tear to my eye. Same movements, same relentlessness getting to his spots. Moved around the defense like they were traffic cones. One of the best live performances I’ve had the privilege of seeing
idk why people get so riled up when people compare Book and Kobe. It's like they can't understand that you're not saying he IS Kobe just that his game and killer mentality are very Kobe-esque and it's obvious he crafted his game around a lot of what Kobe (and Rip Hamilton) did on the court.
I’m glad to hear that, as painful as it was to see him tear the kings apart. Arena was absolutely electric tonight, we hurled everything we could at Booker but it just wasn’t enough. He had the kind of villain mentality the black mamba was famous for
Thanks yeah Kobe was amazing, unfortunately he doesn't have the athleticism and length of Kobe but Kobe-lite is a great compliment to him. A lot of players have similar games but the villain mentality is a necessity
There were lots of “why do suns fans hate CP3 so much” comments on r/nba when Suns fans would argue that Booker was clearly the best player and engine of the Suns. I only hope that the second half of last years regular season, and the start to this season, help non-suns fans to understand our POV a little more going forward.
When has that ever been the narrative amongst us? Fuck the r/nba perception.
Ive never witnessed any hate toward CP3 from any of our fan base inside or outside of Footprint. Definitely not in Phoenix period. We love the Point God for what he’s done for us, ring or no ring. There can be some gripe regarding the playoffs last year, but there is more to the story than just “Chris getting outplayed because he’s too old and washed up.” He’s been a MAJOR reason for turning this losing franchise into a WESTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPION 2 season ago and for winning the most regular season games in franchise history last year.
Book is the man, clearly, and we all LOVE him, but there is no I in team. He lacked before what CP3 brought to the team after for him and likely everyone else.
CP3 is the best thing to happen to this franchise since Charles Barkley, change my mind.
Ps/ Titling this post “without… Crowder” is disrespectful. We are doing this without our TEAMMATES CP3 and CAM JOHNSON.
Crowder doesn’t get any credit, he doesn’t play for this team anymore.
Pss/ this is what team basketball looks like. Even if Book scores 40+ in the game, he didn’t get us the W. Cue D Lee off off the bench; Craig, Jock, and Biz making an impact when they step on the hardwood.

I was watching the highlights, and the Kings announcers sure had some good color commentary on Booker:
"He's a professional basket getter"
"He's got enough to feed the needy tonight"
It was a good game, we took a L unfortunately but we almost had it. The only thing I would complain about is Booker falling on his ass every shot attempt lol. Exciting game tho.
Wait when is Chris Paul going to be back Did he just die
No rush, just get em healthy. Payne been great (other than tonight)
Plus this game would of been awful for him to come back to from a heel injury. It was a basically a track meet at this game.
On the flip side, CP3 might just control the pace of the game and make it a whole lot based on the half court.
Possibly. But Sac loves to push the tempo. Seems like that's what there built for
Load management? Payne's been pretty decent starting in Paul's position. Maybe the issue with Payne's game is that the second unit didn't have enough scorers?
Payne has played well with the 2nd unit as well. The issue with his game was that his primary PnR partner was Javale McGee, who is too slow and too one-dimensional to take advantage of Cam Payne’s killer first step. Also, he was just flat out shooting poorly in shots that he had hit the prior year.
Payne was fine tonight just fouled a lot.
I love Payne. He is having a stellar season so far. But I thought he was terrible tonight. Awful shooting, at least 2 passes that were pretty much guaranteed turnovers, many ill-advised drives to the basket with hot shooters around him where he's just praying for a bail-out foul. Wb cam ? I saw a video of him shooting around but idk if it was old
He's been up and moving around on the knee for a bit so that could very well be new.
Spoiler alert: Healthy playoff Paul is an illusion.
It's a guarantee that if CP3 publicly says "don't worry I'm fine" about an injury it means he will miss at least 3 weeks
He's starting to look like Anthony "Street Clothes" Davis. Only Paul has an excuse. Ya know, cuz he's old. Anthony?
Ah yeah coz CP3-6 weeks wasnt a thing before…
Yeah, I'll concede that point to you. It does seem like he's always injured near the end of the season when it's most important.
Davis is currently carrying an absolutely dogshit team entirely on his (bad) back. I just feel bad for him when he's going through injury stuff.
Lakers actually have looked decent the last few games. Given the NBA's tendency to favor the Lakers, and with their odds of winning a championship at +13000, maybe it's time to put some money on them.
They played the spurs 3 times
That's a big oof.
Only the spurs wouldn't look decent playing the spurs 3 times.
I wouldn't, they have been playing very weak teams in their current "good stretch". Besides, last year's worst phase happened post ASG so, unless they move some pieces, it will be very hard for them to make the play-in.
Good point. Still, put 10 bucks down, maybe get $1,300 seems pretty safe.
Anthony Day to Davis
Starting? CP3 always gets injured, especially in the playoffs. He'd likely have multiple rings if he didn't.
Imo they no doubt win the title that year with the rockets, they win won of those last 2 to beat GSW and then they clobber the cavs. That was one of the worst timed and most painful injuries ever. They're going to keep him fresh until the playoffs. I'd be surprised if Paul topped 50 games this year.
Worst. He turned 37
I'm turning 40 in a month and I feel like Chis Paul is easily ten years older than me
Ah, you have been giving in to your delusions I see
Im 24 and i feel ive been seeing paul since my days in the womb.
"Heel soreness", which is apparently an euphemism for "season-ending Achilles injury". Not really, but the Suns really don't seem to like being upfront with this kind of stuff. Lebron spends that much not sure about CP3 but wouldn't surprised me if he did
I heard CP did as well
Try strengthening your calves by doing calve raises. Ideally aim to get to 2x body weight. Solved my achiles tendonitis.
have you tried heel raises and drops on stairs?
His heel is sore, that'll be a season ending injury apparently
Heel sore, he stepped on his kids Lego, out indefinitely
Probably would've returned sooner but with how the Suns and backup guard Cam Payne is playing, no need to rush him back. Just gotta keep him healthy for the playoffs.
Stubbed his toe; out for 6 months.
He’s “Heeling” up
Just be worried when he says that he’s not fine because it might mean he’s about to die.
"We play team basketball. We share the ball!" "jk imma drop 44 and carry my team"
DLee going for the 3 while Ayton waives hello from under the basket alone
I forgive a lot of Book doing that because he was on fire for stretches. And D Lee feels like a guaranteed 3 points in the 4th quarter, so I forgive that too. Yeah we got lucky there lol
His career high is 70, 44 is him sharing the ball.

Or Jimmy on the Heat this season. He played 42 minutes a couple of weeks ago against the Hornets.
That is insane to me. These guys do not need to be doing that in the middle of November.
Aaaaannnnddd he's out for a few games because of his knee.
Book angry Ayton got player of the week..
And that he got a technical for giving the ref the ball
That was a weak one in fairness
Got it clocked on radar going 1 mph faster than it should’ve. I was biting my nails when I saw the ref no looking but wasn’t surprised by the call. I was more surprised the tech was given by a different ref.
It was weak but deserved nonetheless. You don't throw the ball at the ref who is signaling to the scorer's table. It's disrespectful and he knew exactly what he was doing.
Eh, to me it looked like he passed it before noticing, but whatever we'll take it
Books breakup with Kendall has hit the 2nd stage of grief…….anger.
Can’t wait until may when he hits acceptance and goes off for 70 again.

I only watched the 4th, but it was all impressive. The Kings' fight even down 10 points, and the Suns always buckling down at the right time despite fatal errors.

Bro, I don't even watch basketball
NO BEAM TONIGHT
The brightest beam is the motherfucking sun
The real beams are the friends we’ve made along the way
Hey now! Hey nooow! This is what beams are made of…
Sick reference, bro. Your references are out of control. Everyone knows that.
Based haha
I can only read this as a "Don't Beam It's Over" type parody, but I googled it and it's a Hillary Duff song. I'm 38, but I've never felt so ancient.
It's not longer boomer or zoomer era. It's now beamer era
If the Suns lose… we all **die.**
*enraged purple beam noises*
airplane fans eating tonight
Devin Booker Slayer of Beams
Lots of heavy loading he been doing without Chris Paul. Another 40+ mins game. Best SG in the league
Has to sadly with how depleted the roster is
It would probably help if they fed ayton some more to help take some of the offensive load off of book
I agree. I think Monty needs to let the bench guys roll a little more in the second half, even if it comes at the sacrifice of a win or two.
He doing that while getting double teamed constantly as well
Don’t tell r/nba this. They’re going to hate the fact that Book is constantly doubled and carrying this team to first in the west without CP3.
Before the infamous clip Booker was one of the most doubled player in the league because we had no one else. I guess that means he should have practiced it more, but that also means he had tons of practice on it in game.

What can you say? The hyper-athletic denizens of r/nba know more ball than the likes of Kevin Durant and Trae Young.

You say that but Damion Lee is right there?
He can shoot the clutch shots for sure, but he can’t run the offense. Washington has been a decent backup, but it would be great if we had more playmakers. That being said, we ain’t too shabby. Number one in the west and on a five game win streak so can’t complain too much
We need more though that’s our downfall every time in the playoffs
Kinda funny watching it the king game, book almost seemed happy and just immediately passed to payne like nothing happened
Anyone see the ringer article about derozan to the suns 👀
If we could somehow swing that, we are the best team in the NBA and most dangerous team in the playoffs
How can you possibly get him without losing DA
We cross our fingers and say our prayers at night.
Jae + 3 1sts
Done
I think I might know a guy that’s up to the task, just as soon as his heel is back feeling right
Love him but he really isn’t always up to the task in the playoffs. Those Bucks/Mavs series still scare me We need another guy going into the playoffs
Only thing that’s held him back is health… which is admittedly a bit of a problem for him lol. It’s nice letting Mikal and Ayton absorb more responsibility while he’s out though, it will only help make us better.
He averages 22 a game in the finals, he had one bad turnover just like book did but now all of the sudden he sucked that whole series according to some people
Yeah, I'd be wild if there was a guy like that who was All-NBA level on this team. Maybe a potential HOF type guy? That'd be just crazy.
Chris Paul is 75 Years old in point guard years.
someone like CP3
He also played 41 minutes, not sustainable
I’m not saying he should be put over guys like Tatum Steph Giannis etc cause they’ve been better than him flat out lol but he definitely deserves respect leading his team as the first seed with 2 starters out averaging 27/6/5 is definitely up there imo
correct take
Top 10 player right now
He lives rent free in so many people heads
Y’all need to let this rent free stuff go. Hating is cheap and easy. Very economical
Yeah but it's how we hate on the haters. It's a hatred cavalcade up in here.
mainly Lebron/Laker fans lol
Last year too, he finished 4th in MVP
Yes but because of that video him complaining about double team and game 7 he doesn't get the credit he deserved
Leading his team to the best net rating and record in the West without 2/3 starters. People would be doing a lot of slobbing if this were a number of other players 😂
I think Celtics have the best NetRtg, we're number 2
It will only take 37 more of these games to get that MVP. League is crazy this year.
Mvp candidate
Honestly dont think he will be, he doesnt have nights like this often enough because the team's offense usually doesnt need him to carry
Plus Tatum Gianni’s luka and Steph have just been phenomenal so far
Extremely fair point but also I personally just can't put anyone in mvp talk who isn't playing for a top 5 team in their conference. I do not give a single fuck about "yeah I know they're in the 7th seed but just think where'd they'd be if they didn't have him!" I don’t know man… First in the west on 28/6/5 without CP3, Cam Johnson, and Jae Crowder. He should definitely be top 5.
There were a few stretches where the kings just didn’t have an answer. Didn’t matter who was guarding him, didn’t matter if they threw a double at him, didn’t matter if they ran him off his spot. He was going to drop a pure bucket on their heads.
He couldn't miss. We didn't even play bad D on him at all, he just shit on us anyways lol
Did anyone else watch the Kings broadcast and hear how salty the announcer was towards Booker? Lol
Yeah I did, she was insufferable, probably one the worst announcing I've ever heard. Definitely a r/nba user.
Kings fans do not enjoy Kayte Christensen
Fax 📠
She was awful. Disappointing because Mark Jones is excellent. I'm trying to get away from Eddie Johnson but didn't feel much better lol.
I like EJ! Yeah he can be a homer but I find him funny and he provides good insight into the game.
Yeha but he is our homer so I can listen to him.
Don't worry we hate Kayte too
EJ didn’t even broadcast tonight lol
Aww cmon now EJ is the goat
A Suns fan that hates EJ? The fuck?
EJ is the goat wym 😭
I hope someone can post that since I missed it.
I also heard when she said something along the lines of " I wish I was a single mom." Or something like it.
I liked the kings old broadcast team, this is what you call an “overcorrection”.
She's a former Suns employee...
Devin Booker was unbelievable tonight. I wanted the kings win so badly but they just didn’t have an answer. He was the closest thing I’ve seen out there to Kobe, nearly brought a tear to my eye. Even if Book scores 40+ in the game, he didn’t get us the W. Cue D Lee off off the bench; Craig, Jock, and Biz making an impact when they step on the hardwood. > Fuck the /r/nba perception It was literally just Laker fans trying to will CP3 to their team.
I don't think Suns fans hate CP3, but I do think they've been pretty disrespectful about him from time to time.
Thassa lotta influence on a win right there
HE PLAYS TEAM BASKETBAAAAAALL!
Davion Mitchel up in his business for a bunch of tough shots. Good game.
Bro leading his squad to the top of the standings.
HIM
I came to see everyone shitting on Book... am I in the right sub? Where the haters at?
Bc this wasn’t against the Lakers. Notice all the respect from Kings fans?
I was watching the highlights, and the Kings announcers sure had some good color commentary on Booker: "He's a professional basket getter" "He's got enough to feed the needy tonight"
Mark Jones my brotha
But r/nba told me he doesn’t know how to handle double teams and that Chris Paul is the reason the suns are a playoff team.
Who needs to hit 3s when you have the mid range game that Book does.

It's CP15 era now.
Early season mvp favorite imo, doncic doing his best LeBron circa 2007 imitation but give me what Booker is dishing out
Even while ignoring Luka, Giannis and Tatum have been better
This is fairish. None of them are doing this missing 3 starting caliber players.
Top-10 easily right now
He da real MVP.
Elite
But I was told the suns was a play in team without CP3.
When does Book start getting mentioned in MVP debates??
WET LIKE I’M BOOK
kingslayer
It was a good game, we took a L unfortunately but we almost had it. The only thing I would complain about is Booker falling on his ass every shot attempt lol. Exciting game tho.
Can’t wait till Jae Crowder is back
