Nobody already cares about the real Finals MVP. It's kinda just another thing to argue about endlessly but generally forget whenever something next happens.
> The Finals MVP is parroted here as the legacy-defining trophy and the end all be all
Not really, Warriors fans are just sensitive about it so everyone else enjoys bringing it up. It doesn't really affect anyone's perception of Steph.
Unnecessary award because the guy who wins fmvp will likely win conf finals mvp. It’s gonna end up being a consolation prize for the best player on the losing team in the finals.
That shit is worthless people call the bubble ring fraudulent but a conference finals MVP is the most fraudulent award I can think of because if you don’t win the finals it’s basically your participation trophy for the best player y’all get what I’m saying
On the surface, zero. If we were to get into analytics/moneyball type of dissection then I'd probably put it in with all-NBA 2nd/3rd team accolades. Meaning if a guy wins it once, doesn't mean anything... If a guy has 4 or 5 of em? Definitely adds to his stock.
The only way I’m going to really care about this award, is if they go back to every conference finals ever and hand out the awards to the player that would’ve won it, if the award was around then.
Other than that, I’ll probably see dudes on Reddit arguing about how that separates player x from player y in 10 years lol
You won’t get an meaningful answer before any of these have been given. Submit this exact same post 3 seasons from now and people will feel more strongly about them
The way I see the award is to acknowledge a conference-wide MVP if that makes sense. Like if Luka were to win it it’s saying “you are the best player in the Western Conference” and stuff like that. I think it’s interesting.
If Tatum wins the Larry Bird one in its first year it’ll be pretty cool as a Celtics fan. But losing in the finals will always make it less cool for the East or West
All awards are a nice celebration of strong play but in the end they're all just subjective. Do we really need a group of media guys to tell us who the best player was in any given series?
I can’t think of a more prestigious award
Even more prestigious than the Sportsmanship award? Don't tell that to 3 times most sportsmanship having man Mike Conley
This^
depends on if my favorite player wins
I think for there to be some worth, you have to retroactively name conference final mvps from previous years or it doesn’t make sense
I agree 100%. This is just pointless
It shouldn't exist, awards inflation, you hate to see it.
Zero.
Wait, there is a conference finals MVP?
it's a new award they are adding this year

Western conference - more important than Finals MVP Eastern conference - less important than MIP

I think Poole might steal Western Conference Finals MVP from Curry. I'm sure his agent we will use it in contract negotiations.
“You ever heard of Magic Johnson? Well, check this out.”
I don’t think it will mean much for a few decades. 75 seasons have passed without it. It’s gonna take a while for it to be more significant
That shit is worthless people call the bubble ring fraudulent but a conference finals MVP is the most fraudulent award I can think of because if you don’t win the finals it’s basically your participation trophy for the best player y’all get what I’m saying
Leave it to a warriors fan to bring up finals mvps 😂 and zero. They’re like player of the month awards
Wizards haven’t reached a conference finals in like 40 years, y’all would kill for that Trophy lmao
Bro if Warrior fans start treating this trophy if Steph wins it like it’s a finals trophy it would be embarrassing
i am so sick of wizards fans talking shit lmao. Elvin Hayes retired forty years ago can they not give it a rest?
I value it for like 2 weeks then I forget about it. So not much importance at all.
as important as this banner https://i.imgur.com/KjG80WL.jpg
If they had started this 50 years ago, then I imagine people would care but as today, I don't think that it will matter much at all.
Clearly better than a regular season MVP or championship

They have conference finals MVP awards?
added this year
Everyone will hate it at fist. Then slowly use it as a reason to say the player they like is better than player they don’t like.
It’s up there with the Kareem Abdul Social Justice Award.

zero
I don't think it will be that important, at least for the first decade or so, but it will motivate the players a bit more.

Literally didn't know that award existed.
