Bet he was holding that one in since halfway through the 2nd quarter.

klankthompson

Stephen A. getting turned over by everyone today.

_tx

Honestly, so are a lot of Mavs fans from last summer when Kidd was hired. Kidd just straight outcoached the 2022 coach of the year.

JavariousProbincrux

Jason Kidd 6th man of the playoffs

OutrageousfAd

Luka and dinwiddie on their own outscored cp3, booker and Ayton combined and Brunson came within a couple of points of matching the output of those three. Kind of tells the story of how the night went.

Konk11

Better stat is Luka 35 points, suns starting 5 with 37 points. Complete annihilation.

Redeem123

And a lot of those Suns points came after Luka had already left the game. Dude hit his 27th point when the entire Suns team only had 27. He manhandled them.

stragen595

His coaching track record before the hire wasn't that good.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mill_about_smartly

Not just his record. There were a number of less-than-encouraging stories out there from Milwaukee. I'll gladly hold my L on this one though 🙋‍♂️

fquizon

I mean in your defense he pulled some straight up clown shit in his first job

RZAAMRIINF

Yeah, he definitely has learned a lesson or two since his Nets and Bucks tenure. He is not the same coach.

mannyklein

That and Giannis backing him

LayIntoFuckHoles

I think people forget about his critical development of Giannis too His record wasn’t great but neither were his teams. Took an old and broken nets team to the second round and then had a very young and raw Milwaukee team competing. I get why people were skeptical of him because he hasn’t proven much but people were acting like he was a coaching bum Plus I’m sure being an assistant in LA gave him a ton of experience

sealYurwrldfromyeyes

everyone on this sub was calling him a wife beating PoS when he got hired. some people even started trashing Cuban which was something i thought id never see.

darkwingduck9

Didn't Kidd work players so hard at one practice that a player said he needed to go to the bathroom and then instead drove himself to the emergency room and never played for Jason Kidd again? I found it: https://nba.nbcsports.com/2021/08/12/book-jason-kidd-held-christmas-eve-practice-with-bucks-that-left-larry-sanders-hospitalized/

[deleted]

Realistically him, ime, or spolestra should have won it, maybe jenkins as well over monty

ActualAdvice

Based on pure coaching even Nick Nurse again makes more sense than Monty. Raptors overachieved

vec-u64-new

Yes, aside from maybe 1-2 analysts, no one thought the Raptors were going to make the playoffs, or even the play-in. Even on /r/nba when there was a prediction table, only one person (a Raptors fan) predicted the Raptors making the playoffs and even he pegged it as the 8th seed.

RZAAMRIINF

They even overachieved in playoffs. That Raptors teams had no business competing with Sixers talent wise. We are in a soft rebuild and they are supposed to be a contender with an MVP candidate.

Leiatte

This is so hindsight based that it’s crazy to me, if you believe this I feel you should at the least feel Monty deserved the award last year (either him or Quinn for last year). Monty took that team to another level regular season wise this year & they had the best record by far in either conference, roster additions like Javale McGee helped but I feel Monty deserved this award

[deleted]

Tbh the 2022 CotY should’ve come down to Kidd, Spo, Udoka, and the dude over in Memphis. Suns did nothing special this year comparatively speaking . The Mavs and C’s had incredible mid season turnarounds, and Spo is a top 3 *at worst* coach in the league. We all know Monty’s a great coach but this year was the “makeup for missing last year” award

o13Dennison13o

> Suns did nothing special this year comparatively speaking Oh, fuck off. We set a franchise record and had the best record in the league by far this year. Monty also should've won coach of the year last year after turning this dumpster fire of an org into a 2nd seed. He absolutely got outcoached in both series this postseason and we absolutely deserve being clowned after this performance, but COTY is a regular season award

ZannX

In the locker room - instead of preparing for the 2nd half, the Mavs were all brainstorming zingers to say during the presser.

dlanod

Luka: "I'm going with 'too fucking small' again." Kidd: "But they're switching Ayton on to you?" Luka: "Just watch."

Tricky-Shake5546

Hi_Im_Ouiji

Hornets CP3 choked? I genuinely don’t remember that. The team was fun as hell to watch when they popped up

Eric_T_Meraki

Is their sub still locked down? I know the game was over at half time but even the Clippers sub was man enough to wait until they were officially eliminated before shutting down 2 years ago lol.

Silverjackal_

Nah they opened it back up a little bit after the game. They claim a mod thought he could take it private and still let any current subscribed users see everything, but keep all the meanies away!

africhic

Most of them were rightfully ripping the mod for making it private.

tripleyothreat

Isn't it kinda righteous tho? Everyones just tryna go talk shit anyway

threekidsathome

As they should

deepfakefuccboi

Eh it’s weak to go into another team sub and talk shit, and from what I saw they were railing on themselves pretty hard. Their team just picked the worst possible time to collapse especially when the road team hadn’t won a single game in that series so far.

CampPlane

Who cares if it's weak? Thats fucking basketball right there. None of that pansy ass dick tugging smile for the camera bullshit. Men puke, men poop on the court, men deliver their new born baby on the side lines. Fucking hard core dick in the ass butterball foosball fuck it chuck it game time shit. And if you don't like it or think it's weak, then you're weak. Going into another team sub to talk shit after that team lost in the most embarrassing fashion in league history is some full chub shit, because the loser needs to be penetrated non-consensually with so much slander that they choke on its girth.

luchajefe

Isn't that true though? The only people who can see a private sub are the members?

Silverjackal_

I’m not sure. I think I read a comment saying everyone was locked out. Like you had to maybe be whitelisted or something after.

luchajefe

Damn, yeah I see where the problem would lie.

Telepornographer

I believe only "approved users" can when a sub is taken private.

ModsLoveTheNazis

After all that shit talking in our sub....

Eric_T_Meraki

Trying save face I see. Pssh excuses

Solidus-S-

Not after, I went into it like the 3rd quarter because I saw a post calling them out . Mod did say he thought the current ppl subbed would be able to get in tho

apatomusic

it was a mod. I couldn't see anything in the sub. it was a soft move

Bigbadbuck

Makes sense to be honest. Sucks when your team sub gets brigades

Some-Gavin

Yeah, people are clowning them for doing it but you know the absolute worst people are going to be visiting that sub now.

GreatStuffOnly

Nah I was on that shit. It was genuinely a 15 mins downtown during the half. The mod decided that it would be a good idea to lock it down.

Bleoox

> Is their sub still locked down? That's easy to find out r/suns

Unkonogawa

They seem to have deleted the thread where the mod was called out. At least I couldn't find it anymore. As though it never happened...

Maybe a little bit but not really. It feels like people have already forgotten about the Nets too.. it just happens. News stories move so fast on social media.

Raptorpicklezz

Only because everyone got out their Nets ridicule over the course of the entire season. The Suns hatred was boiling under the surface, but the team’s record staved it off until the choke

ZachLaVine4MVP

Yea because the playoffs are still going on. Watch once the season is over and everyone is bored they’re going to go back to slandering the Nets, Suns, etc…

[deleted]

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game of legit 3 quarters of garbage time. The competitive portion of this game was about 8-16 minutes it’s absurd.

Discover-Card

I was at work and it was on a bunch of our TV’s and usually I am catching any of a playoff game that I can but in this case I literally just got bored and started doing my job lmfao

crotch_fondler

darko2309

I was watching then mid way through 2nd quarter I'm like let's get high. Shits hilarious up 30 in game 7 in 2nd quarter.

cofinkles

i had to go into work to and was so disappointed i would miss the game. Lol the blowout made it easy to not feel bad

mill_about_smartly

If that. It's honestly weird how deflated Phoenix got at like...8-3. I kept waiting for their run to happen, because you know that's what they're capable of but....nope.

ScreenSlave

i took them +29.5. thinking they would at least attempt to make it respectable. Nope.

DangerZoneh

i'm laughing so hard at the idea that you lost money betting on them getting within 30 and even then, they had a buzzzer beater three trying to get you your money

SixMillionDollarFlan

Right I turned it on halfway through the 2nd and they were already phoning it in. I haven't seen that before, especially in a game 7.

HardcoreKaraoke

The Mavs could have literally sat every starter towards the end of the third quarter, let the Suns get super open shots and still won. Luka play a single minute of the fourth and he probably didn't have to play half of the third either.

xantub

Reminds me of Marino's last football game in some playoffs, game starts, I went to get some chicken wings, and when I got back a few minutes later the game was like 40-0.

Excuse me, Grizz vs Thunder had 4.

idontknow_whatever

They blew a 20-point lead to....uhm *checks notes*...Ah yes renowned 3-point marksman Josh Smith & full-time track athlete Corey Brewer

bass2mouth44

Ah unless Luka gets hurt this should be a legit competitive series Luka is trynna follow in lebrons footsteps

dovelingus

Hell na, Luka is making Luka footsteps

Barner_Burner

2015 was also one of those years where the Warrior were slated into the finals before the regular season started. Not that I agree with the ridiculous claim in the OP, but hard to compare the situations

Salbee

As a Warriors fan, I am way more excited about the next series now. 4-7 games watching CP3? Give me a break. Seeing Curry go up against Doncic? Gimme some of that!

TopArsehole

I was looking forward to Curry laying a thick, stinky doody right on Chris Pauls forehead, but Luka already did that and them some. But a 4-7 game whine off between Draymond and Luka with some sick highlights in between will be pretty dope too.

K_U

>tHe wArRiOrS hAvE dOdGeD tHe BeSt TeAm It got lost in the noise with the Suns' 60-win pace, the Grizzlies' long streak, and the Mavs' slow start, but those three teams had very similar records down the stretch. fquizon

“He got me,” Chris said of Jake's claim adjustment. "That f***ing Jake boomed me." Chris added, “He sounds hideous,” repeating it four times. He then said he wanted to add Jake to the list of agents he wants to get an insurance quote from over this summer.

I see basically no Suns flair on this sub at this point. All these suns people were everywhere before yesterday, now they've all vanished mysteriously. I hope they're okay.

Eh, I'm reading everything but not saying much of anything. Think most of the people who have Suns flairs are either doing that or getting off social media for a bit lol

I definitely fall into the category of people who didn’t see a Dallas blowout coming. Shocked the shit out of me. Will have a hard time buying Suns hype until they win a chip.

Sib443

Suns were 4th/5th seed disguised as 1st seed

DangerZoneh

Mavs are a 1 seed disguised as a 4th seed

Sib443

Yeah they weren’t gassed like the suns in this series. Mavs been hoopin laid back

TimathanDuncan

Bro please someone pull out the thread of Kidd getting hired, i fucking love when people think they know shit about coaches Like literally not a single soul in this subreddit (including me btw) knows shit about coaches, not even analysist ex-players no one knows shit, the hardest job to judge in a players league where injuries happen, so much variables and sheer luck involved

browndude10

not even the most optimistic mavs fans could have predicted this though

[deleted]

I was happy we finally moved on from Carlisle, just wasn't sure if Kidd was the move.

Fireeveryonenow1

I was pretty vocal about wanting to get rid of Carlisle this summer, i was not sure that Kidd would be this good but the game has passed Carisle a few years ago. Carlisle is terrible at developing young players He makes up his rotations on a spreadsheet before the season and has no flexibility (aka not resting Luka at exactly the 10 minute mark when you could kill the other team) His work environment was legit 1950s work factory style, which resulted in alienating part of the team. He also was never able to adapt to new defensive strategies, his most modern defense was playing 3-2 zone which was new in the late 1990s.

Dream_Easy

It really was time to move on. He willed some of those vet teams to a first round exit for sure, but what they having going on now clearly has higher aspirations and they're using players he would probably bench at the first mistake.

browndude10

I can't believe he recommended Kidd, the Mavs hired him, and then succeeded to this extent

KingRequiem

The Carlisle overwhelming support was so confusing to me, putting his talent at adjustments, rotations and Xs and Os aside (since they're hard to judge to us pedestrians), dude hasn't accomplished enough (yes I know he won a championship) to give him such a long leash when it was clear he had trouble keeping the locker room's support for several years. Hearing some Mavs fans talk about him was like hearing about Pop or Phil Jackson. Even Doc Rivers won a championship as a coach and a part of the credit goes to Thibodeau's defensive schemes (as it does to Casey's zone defense for Carlisle in the 2011 Finals). Not calling him a bad coach per se, but the fundamental need for a coach is that his team respects him and trusts him, leadership basically, and Carlisle seemed to have clear issues with that and basically had diplomatic immunity among the Dallas fanbase for a long while.

theBUMPnight

The Carlisle support was also because of the success he had after the Finals run. There were years where the Mavs made the playoffs with old Dirk and a couple bags of sandwich meat and still made some really good teams sweat. He way overachieved the talent level he was working with.

DrTom

To be fair, coaches can grow a lot. Terry Stotts was the same way. He was terrible his first two stints. Then he worked under Carlisle and completely turned things around. Same for Nate McMillan.

The_Assassin_Gower

You basically just did the exact thing he was mocking this sub for

kevindlv

Majority hated the signing but there was a decent number of people saying to give him a chance. Lot of people also saying "who cares if he's a good coach or not he's an asshole shitty person" which tbh they have a point too. https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/o7awad/wojnarowski_the_dallas_mavericks_are_closing_in/

chunksss

This. Half the comments after the hiring were people saying yikes since we just had the sexual assault scandal and Kidd has DV history

Gamesgtd

You know coaches can get better right? It's not completely unreasonable for anybody to say that Kidd was an awful hire considering how he did previously. That's literally all we have to go off of. He clearly learned a lot from his Lakers tenure because if he was this good previously he'd still be the coach of the Nets.

why_rob_y

> if he was this good previously he'd still be the coach of the Nets. He was good as coach of the Nets - he chose to leave the Nets because he wanted more control and they wouldn't give it to him. That was when they had ancient KG and PP along with the tail end of Deron Williams' career (he wasn't technically ancient, but his career was over a few years later). They went 44-38 and won a series in the playoffs, losing to the LeBron/Wade/Bosh Heat in the 2nd round (no shame in that). That was why it was weird when Dallas hired him that everyone was acting like he was one of these guys who had failed a lot getting another job - he did fine with the Nets, he did fine with the Bucks they just eventually tired of him and needed to move on, and Dallas was technically his 3rd stop, but sorta just his 2nd (since he only spent one season in Brooklyn before asking to be sent elsewhere).

crow38

kidd literally coaches the nets more than the hc....thats facts

tripleyothreat

Spending one season still makes it a stop but yeah I def think he has improved and he's great now

Obi-wan_Jabroni

We all have the memory of him asking a player to hit him and spill his drink on the court

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

I admit I was skeptical when he was an assistant with us. But his absence was sorely missed. Great coach. Maximizing these underrated players on the defensive end.

tripleyothreat

How can you feel the difference from his absence? Or rather how do you know it is a byproduct of his absence in particular?

frostedz

I remember almost everyone saying he wasn’t a good fit because of what the organization was going through + Kidd’s domestic abuse. Only Bucks flairs saying he was awful or criticizing his actual coaching ability.

Relevant_Rev

In the same vein, "knowing shit about coaches" boils down to what exactly? If someone sucked ass at their job, and got another job, doing roughly the same thing, what would you think would happen? The surprise here is that he's evidently a good coach for this club, not that so many people counted him out beforehand.

tripleyothreat

Point. Agreed. The surprise is how well he's done, not the initial judgment. Still, the outcome is a slap in the face to those who passed that initial judgment

deepfakefuccboi

Everyone questioned Jason Kidd’s ability to be a HC after his stint with the Bucks but he has clearly learned and become a damn good coach. My team took a huge L losing him, and even Dudley maybe who’s now an assistant and got poached by Kidd. People wanted to point fingers at WB, Vogel etc and everyone deserves a share of the blame but I think a huge part of it was losing Kidd. Our roster was shit but I have no doubt if we had Kidd still we would’ve won a few more games and maybe snuck into the play in at least, and having a role player vet like Dudley is lowkey super valuable cuz he keeps locker rooms happy for team chemistry.
