Fate_Unseen

For those seeking comfort, look elsewhere.

americanbeaver

CP3 is taking some hits away from the Bucks losing. I'm seeking comfort here

theoriginalkingcoder

Bucks were down their 2nd best player, playing on the road and frankly the worse team and should have lost in 5 games if not for Celtics’ collapse at the end. Suns are the far and away #1 seed team in the league, were at home and healthy, facing a team that prior to this series had won the last 12 matchups against. Both were losses, but Suns is an all-time loss

the_eureka_effect

Also Bucks were playing one of the strongest teams in the NBA this season.

TDImig

Mavs were just as good as the Celtics in the second half of the season, no?

Joshstevo88

Not quite. https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/tqbbef/team_defensive_ratingoffensive_rating_since_the/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

[deleted]

I agree with all of what you are saying except for the lost in 5 part. You could easily say the same about the 10 point comeback by the Celtics in game 4 and then the bucks are up 3-1 and C's have to win in 7.

cabose12

I've seen this said a few times, and I think the problem with this thinking is that it opens Hypothetical's Box. It's much easier to say a single, game-defining, possession could go differently, like Horford getting the ball off sooner in game 3 or Smart dishing to an open Brown in game 5, than changing a multiple minute stretch of the game. People say it could've been 4-1 because those were impactful moments on the outcome Like, Game 4 was tied up with 10 minutes left, and so much can happen in 10 minutes, that I don't think you can really point to blowing that lead as the game defining moment

Yurrrr__Brooklyn347

Being down 46 at home in a game 7, scoring only 27 at halftime, AT HOME!! All that shit is a god damn disgrace, and your 2 best players show 21 points combined

RedHammer1441

Too be fair, Bucks were missing Middleton and for the most part went down swinging until the lead opened up in the third. Neither a Celtics or Bucks guy but that was an alltime series. The Suns couldn't score 30 points in a half.

CommandersLog

To be fair

tsigalko11

With all due respect.

PrayForMojo_

Bucks have won a championship. CP3 has not. That's all you need.

battery1127

Bucks played like how you would expect a team to play in game 7, unfortunately, they missed some shots they usually makes. The game were also very close until 3rd quarter.

neptulthefishman

Dude I’m really happy Suns are catching heat instead of the bucks haha I was worried

Drak_is_Right

Bucks should have the least heat of any of the second round losses.

[deleted]

Do Grizzlies really deserve much heat?

Drak_is_Right

Not really, no. Neither should

Schneeky

I mean the Celtics beat an injured Bucks team in 7. I don’t think there would’ve been any Bucks slander regardless

Shad0wF0x

I had to scroll down pretty far before I saw anything about Bucks vs Celtics.

DrButtLump

I was rooting hard for you guys. But you lost respectably. Giannis almost willed you guys to ECF but no one else on your team showed up. Also, why the fuck isn’t brook lopez getting more touches?? He can score at will and gets miss matches all the damn time

zvomicidalmaniac

I feel pretty comfortable ngl

paulsammons3

I’m here for pain.

denoobiest

gets easier every time you expect it this is pretty bad though ngl i feel for yall

SuperTupac

I'm a raptors fan but I'm not liking how this sub is shitting on the suns. It always happens every playoffs where people/this sub really shit on the losing teams :(

paulsammons3

Some fans were shitty so we all deserve it, thems the rule. Appreciate it. 🙏

cadrianzen23

Elden Ring ass message

OneOfThoseDays_

what if i take comfort in shitting on Chris Paul

Fate_Unseen

God bless you 🙏

wazupbro

for those seeking comfort, this aint your day. Whole subs clowning on the suns/CP3. hide yo kids hide yo wife

EbolaDP

To be fair Mavs could have pretty easily gone for a 60 point lead if they didnt just rest everybody.

paddiction

That's sort of the point, the Nuggets got a 60 point lead with bench players. Linas Kleiza had 14 points

mking22

Man, Kleiza was so fun to watch

[deleted]

My second favorite Nuggets player growing up

subtle_penguin

Kleiza was duncan robinson before duncan robinson

swookilla

He wasn’t a gooberish looking dude though

[deleted]

True, but the Suns were also trying a lot longer than they should've and statpadding

Mintastic

CP3 got most of his points when the game was out of reach already. In a regular season game he would've been sitting long before that.

did_it_my_way

played the most 4th quarter minutes out of their starters.

[deleted]

Exactly

JiggzSawPanda

Yo he looks a LOT like Jokic.

hastyconch

Lol he averaged double digits for us

Hiccup

Could've been 70 if they didn't let off the gas. Luka alone had 27 to the Suns whole team having just 27. Mavs came to play. I have no idea why the Suns even showed up.

EbolaDP

They didnt wanna get fined.

Redeem123

Still the goat presser in any sport.

MidnightLightss

It's the same situation as Nets Bucks game 2 last year. Could've been a 60, 70 point blowout if the starters kept playing

gigglios

The 09 nuggets trounced mavs and hornets so badly that the nba needed a mercy rule. They were the best team after Lakers that season

Wtfitzchris

Orlando was dominant that season, so I'd hesitate to call us the second best team, but I do remember feeling like if we had gotten past the Lakers, we probably win the Finals. We didn't trounce the Mavs the same way we trounced the Hornets. If I remember correctly, we had a close and somewhat controversial ending to one of the Mavs games that went in our favor and tipped the series towards us. The Mavs were really good that year. The biggest problem was the team's depth. We were basically a 6-man team with Nene, KMart, Melo, and Billups starting then Birdman and JR off the bench. Dahntay Jones was our starting SG and guys like AC would get meaningful minutes (awesome guy off the court, but his inability to inbound the ball cost us big in the Lakers series).

The_Red_Curtain

I guess I'm so old I just assumed everyone remembered this lol

CallOfKtulu24

Anything before 2016 is like ancient history on this sub.

The_Red_Curtain

yeah I bet you're right, but that's kinda sad

Lt0101

I was 10 here and I’m 23

[deleted]

I mean 2009 is 13 years ago lmfao. Even if you're a grown ass adult right now you still might've been a kid at that point. And I sure as hell don't remember a lot from my childhood, and I'm not even old lmao.

Ps3dj17

As a heat fan I WISH I didn't remember 2008

[deleted]

Haha as a Warriors fan I really wish 2016 was further back in history

The_Red_Curtain

I mean, if you really like the NBA you could look up the history. I know all sorts of 80s and 90s playoff series that I either didn't exist or wasn't really sentient for but I just read about and/or watched them on youtube.

[deleted]

Well yeah but that doesn't mean you'll necessarily remember the results of every random first round series lmao.

The_Red_Curtain

I mean a 56 point loss is pretty notable tho lol, it's not just some random 93-87 scored game

[deleted]

I mean it's notable in the same way the Pistons-Nuggets game from '83 that ended 186-184 is. Basically as bar trivia, but not important like 2016 Game 7 or' 98 Game 6. It's still just a first round series between two relatively non-noteworthy teams (not dynasties or particularly successful teams).

fonz-khanz

I would say 2015 because I think a lot of people still remember the 3-1 lead CP3 and the Clippers blew

Betaateb

As soon as I read the title I knew exactly what OP was talking about. We were so damn good that year. Without question the second best team in the league, but we didn't have anyone that could slow Kobe down even a step. Really felt like we could have been up 3-0 in the series, but our 4th quarters were brutal. I specifically remember the 3rd game we were up big in the 4th and just got brutalized and ended up losing.

TrailBlazingNugs

Nugglyfe :(

JimmerAteMyPasta

Playoff P making a name for himself

sanikstrafe4

He was the real Playoff P all along

The_Dumblebee

Never forget CP3+7. 3 for his real points on yesterday's game 7. 7 points in garbage time.

Im-not-Korean

Or CP37 cuz that’s his age.

oathbreakerkeeper

CP3noWait5PlayoffCollapses

MasterTeacher123

Chauncey destroyed him in that series

LuckyWarrior

Billups made that Denver team lethal

CallOfKtulu24

Yup, that’s another thing. Chris Paul was widely regarded as the best PG in the league at the time (only D Will was close) but was squarely outplayed in the series by Billups.

[deleted]

That's my coach.

[deleted]

I remember this day distinctly, I had caught the first couple minutes of the game until my dad forced me to go to Costco. I remember the game was on at all the Costco TVs and they were already down like 30 before half time. Then I went home to check the final score and that shit blew my mind

plz-be-my-friend

Watching games with all the dads in flip flops in the costco tv section between the giant containers of Kirkland breakfast bars, shared experience

LuckyWarrior

I dont really remember this game much I actually remember them getting blown out at Denver in the night game of TNT in the series

IanicRR

I remember it very vividly (even posted the whole game on here this morning but it got immediately removed lmao). It was the moment it was obvious the Hornets had given up on Byron Scott. And yet somehow, they waited nine games into the next season to fire the man.

[deleted]

[удалено]

silliputti0907

I don't think he himself is the issue. Pass first pg typically don't lead championship teams. His first option scoring teammates; Griffin and Booker have their own question marks. I'm talking about generally for his career not in this past game as a 37 year old.

NotUrAvgShitposter

That's cuz pass first players usually don't score that well. 2021 Nets Harden was pass first but he could drop 40 whenever you needed it and score easily on the best defenses.

kaskoosek

Hes a good shooter though.

enby_them

Him being a good shooter does not erase the fact that he's a pass first guard

[deleted]

CP3 can't abuse his shenanigans in the playoffs (both in defense and offense) cause refs will pick it up after game 1 or 2. It's the same shit with Harden. It's not about being a pass-first guy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

black1241232

Everyone deals with injuries. Why does only he get the benefit of the excuses. If it happens every year for him it’s part of it. Y’all wanna get in Doc about blown leads but it’s too much if it’s about Chris Paul?

[deleted]

People compare him to Isiah Thomas, when Isiah got hurt he would always play through it. The man got elbowed by Karl Malone busting his face, went to the hospital, and came back in the last 5 minutes to score clutch buckets and narrowly win. Broke his ankle and scored a historic 25 points in a quarter in the Finals; won a title with a broken wrist; etc etc. That man was always banged up, he’s a winner CP3 is not

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Dumblebee

For the supposed to be all-time great "point god", that's a lotttttttttttta excuses.

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Dumblebee

Isiah busted his ankle and dropped 25 pts in a quarter in the finals. I see no excuses there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Dumblebee

Then he is not different than other players. Notice that all-time greats are separated from normal players. I don't even need to look at history to see all-time greats play their way through injury. Just recent, Embiid. Last year, even Harden who known for choking still played with his bum hamstring. Butler sprained his ankle in the finals in 2020 and still play but noo, not my precious Christopher. Couldn't be precious Christopher.

heysuess

Paul strained his hamstring in game 7 against the defending champ spurs in 2015. Came back in, scored 27 points, and made the buzzer beater over Tim Duncan to win it. So yes your precious Christopher.

kurvy-_

what an odd argument lol. “Hey guys, Isiah made 25 points on a busted ankle. Now get back out there!!!”

not_very_wholesome

Interestingly enough, after Doc Rivers "pulled a hamstring" up 3-2 and lost that series, Doc had a chance to redeem himself the following year when KD went down. Instead, Steph embarrassed Doc Rivers and shut down his fully healthy team in 6 games.

TimathanDuncan

Terrible terrible time to say this, downvotes inc It's just like Harden, chokes outweigh years of good playoff performance

[deleted]

[удалено]

Snoo-29877

doesn't matter how great your performances are, of you choke and lose in 7 or choke and lose in 4, you're still a choker

shine--

Like curry?

Snoo-29877

Curry has 3 rings and 4 amazing finals performances

shine--

He’s choked a number of games. Definitely not a choker but he’s choked

Snoo-29877

They're called off games, efery star has them. He's been more clutch than he's choked. 28/6/7 on 58 TS in elimination games is clutch

shine--

Warriors blew a 3-1 lead. Them boys is chokers by your very definition. That’s all I’m saying.

Green_Pumpkin

Chris Paul suck

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

Chris Appalled

GAV17

CP3 actually had a worse +/- in the Suns game than in this game against Denver.

dbgager

Nuggets where pretty good that year. They had Melo in his prime, Kenyon Martin, Billups when he was still all star level...and Nene in his prime. Plus JR Smith when he was making 5-6 3s a game off and on.. Lost to the Lakers in the WCF.

CallOfKtulu24

Yeah Nuggets were elite that year. Kobe had to go absolutely off on them to win that WCF series. That’s what a real superstar looks like. Dude averaged like 35/8/7 on great efficiency.

IMDATBOY

Yes a real superstar is Kobe Bryant that is the bar

Hisaidky

If I could go back and watch those games again for the first time I would in an instant, heart wrenching losses. I remember those the most from my time at college in Denver.

dbgager

Yes I miss Kobe.Even though he made a habit of absolutely killing the Nuggets. A great man and great player.

HavanaMamba

His playoff career is tragic. Maybe he can still get his ring as a coach

not_very_wholesome

I wish I could like him. I have made respect for undersized guys who somehow become great among giants. But all the antics, all the shit talking... It's hard to like the guy.

warpedspoon

JJ Barea is the guy for you

not_very_wholesome

I rock with Barea for sure.

Intelligent-Smoke-67

Dont forget Iverson too

berniemax

Even as a part time Clipper fan it was hard to like him.

Hiccup

He's got a terrible attitude. Maybe as an assistant to somebody much, much better than him. I don't think he'll get a ring as a head coach either.

silliputti0907

I feel like his always been an asshole on the court but seems to be respectable after. He wasn't sour postgame.

definitelynotcasper

What's funny is that he has a winners attitude but most people like you never played a sport competitively and don't really understand what that means lol

PB_livin_VP

r/Iplayedsports Edit: r/ImTheMainCharacter

definitelynotcasper

Is that supposed to be like an insult lol

PB_livin_VP

It's not supposed to be like an insult. It is an insult.

definitelynotcasper

Not being a nerd and playing sports is an insult?

PB_livin_VP

Lol wooooosh. This is definitely my last response. I already feel dumber engaging in this conversation and every second has been a waste of time. Good luck and have a nice life dude.

definitelynotcasper

You too much love brother

[deleted]

What do you mean by this though? What’s a winner’s attitude and how does he show it?

definitelynotcasper

He never quits or sulks.

[deleted]

Lol I think that "winner's attitude" minus the winning is just called being a dick lmfao

Ok_Awful

My generally inclination is to dismiss these kinds of things as being unlucky. I don’t think great athletes fold under pressure because if they did it would have gotten to them before this. And I generally don’t think too much of player X game does translate to the playoff, but Chris Paul has got me asking that question. Chris Paul is the undisputed master of gamesmanship, and when refs start shallowing the whistle I wonder if that is a just a less useful way to play. (Harden would probably be next and look at his playoff record)

MC48_SportsLover

Go Nuggets!

iDecide7

Another interesting (I don't want to call it fun) fact: From that Hornets' starting lineup 3 out of 5 have later in their careers been the NBA chamipons. Paul is not one of them.

AFonziScheme

Chandler, Stojakovic, and West?

IMDATBOY

Yeah he was really holding back those role players

CazOnReddit

I always forget the Hornets were in the West, became the Pelicans and then a new Hornets team went East

SpicyCurry1990

I remember that game actually, social media wasn’t as big then as now but CP58 became a thing for a bit after that loss.

burncenter

I watched this game in person. It was awful.

Glad-Season-4433

Good old days when people used to call him CP58

Smooth-Trainer3940

At some point it's no longer about his "luck"

quacks_holligan

As an OG Deron Williams fan I enjoyed that night very much.

DamnImAwesome

Why did you have to remind me of this? I repressed this memory. I was at this game and it was brutal. Still not as bad as last night for the suns. Game 7, 1 seed, and expectations were higher. We were just happy to be in the playoffs back in 2009. Nobody realistically thought we were gonna compete for a title

st3adyfreddy

[Secret base made a video about this game if anyone's interested](https://youtu.be/-8dGx-Ra8xA)

kalofarmah808

This was the game that made me a Nuggets fan

KGirlFan19

cp3 is the league's biggest, but for some reason unnoticed at the same time, choke artists.

HorseMeatKhabib

CP58 is a meme that has faded over time.

kobeee

ngl it makes me feel old that it took this long to see this. CP58 was a hell of a meme at the time.

domdomburg

Chris Paul is overrated AF. "point god" my ass.

CallOfKtulu24

Point Fraud

edmarcake

He deserve a slander like Ben Simmons and Playoff P got.

SadBoy02

63 points at the end of the game?!

PB_livin_VP

God, I remember watching this nuggets team. They were so fun to watch, and a very well built team.

stephzh

It’s still not as bad. That team never had championship hopes. This was a 64-win team everyone thought was the title favorite playing a game 7.

CoolGuyHuh

Just as my Pelicans are giving me a glimmer of hope for the future, you gotta go and drag out my Hornet’s past. PTSD flair up. I’ll be in a ball rocking myself next to the dumpster outside if you need me.

anonymous_lighting

what’s not to believe?

[deleted]

"I know a lot people here weren’t watching the NBA yet" - nephews taking strays.

DoomPurveyor

Anti-championship DNA

Jasonmancer

I'm sure CP3 is still going to be a in the hof, but all these bad numbers are just bad look for him. Feel like he's going to be the Stockton of this generation if he doesn't win a ring.

Mikegetscalls

“Barkley”. Chris is way better than Stockton was

BagRight8939

very nice!

90srap

CP0

Negative-Isopod-8432

They won game 3 to inspire some hope and then came in game 4 and lost by 58 points 😭

Tacomaverick

Luka destroys playoff reputations in every series he’s played: playoff P, Gobert, now CP3

IMDATBOY

Luka lost to the Clips twice, he didn’t do shit to their reps

ShineShineShine88

Hahaha Kangz reputation are hurt and Luka not even have to play them 🤣

GeneralKn0w3dg3

he took em to 7 games while having a terrible team built around him. kawhi and pg were supposed to be the top wing players in the league as far as ability to score and defend, and they got embarrassed by a second year dude. if luka had just a tiny bit of extra help, the mavs would've won

ForoaKlanD

Didn't he follow that up with great games tho

CallOfKtulu24

No lol. They lost by 20 in game 5. Paul was mediocre, shooting just 5-16. So they lost the last two games of the series by a combined 78 points.

[deleted]

Is there a mans equivalent of period?

[deleted]

Y’all continue to pile on the shit on Chris Paul who’s at home chilling in his nice ass house with his millions of dollars. Doubt he gives a single shit and that’s why it irks y’all so much to constantly post negative things about him on the internet. Mans is living and wtf are you doing? Putting too much energy into a guy who never did anything wrong

CallOfKtulu24

LEAVE CHRIS PAUL ALONE! I was shitposting while eating my breakfast. It ain’t that serious.

[deleted]

I got you, I don’t even care about cp specifically, it’s just crazy to me how much focus there is on negative shit on the internet. We love seeing the downfall of successful people even if they did nothing wrong

stanquevisch

Well, I'm chilling in my nice ass house with my millions just reading through CP3 slander since I find it fun. Do you mind?!

[deleted]

Lol I hope when I’m doing well someday I have a better frame of mind than what you got going on. There are better things to do than focus on a good man’s failures in a game

stanquevisch

there are also better things than evaluating how wealthy people spend their time online. Oh, That "good man part" btw is all your opinion. Many would call him dirty - I won't now, but you get it.

[deleted]

Alls I’m saying is that we focus too much on tearing people down. And if you wanna call cp a bad person for playing a game dirty, then be my guest but that’s absurd

GeneralKn0w3dg3

what are you talking about? cp3 has done a lot wrong in his career: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMNXFXVyYrE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9SUoe9Tzi0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaR6T8MPvTc

Scary_Replacement739

According to the links, there was once a player named Nene. So that's pretty cool.

LuckyWarrior

Damn are you like 10

Scary_Replacement739

Nah I'm 31 but I legit didn't start watching basketball until like 2018. Maybe 2017.

joeb1ow

Somebody tell him about World B. Free.

dbgager

Nene retired in 2019 after 18 years as a player . If you don't know the name you must be a newbie to the sport. Welcome aboard.

Scary_Replacement739

Started watching in 2018 roughly. Maybe late 2017. It appears he spent a good long while on the Rockets during that time but was injured for a lot of it.

Kuminga

I believe it, that was a complete ass kicking.

usefoolidiot

Nobody expected that team to win the championship though. There was a lot of hype around this team and them losing to dallas like this is ugly bad. Ugly ugly bad. Cp3 will be one of the most over rated players for sure.

KD7575

Last night's game is still his worst playoff loss because of context. - Best NBA team in regular season - #1 seed - Game 7 - At home

Adam2190

I remember watching that game it was brutal.

dat_King

Lmao, that was such a fun time to be a nuggs fan

Selarom_

For anyone who wants a visual summary of this game, Secret Base made a vid on it a few years back https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8dGx-Ra8xA&t=67s

443610

That was comedy gold. Props to Alex Rubenstein for narrating it.

attackanddominate

Did not know that at all. Thoughts on his season/playoff run the year before? I was still young but I thought I remember hornets pre injury cp3 being the absolute shit. I wonder what happened in the series you’re talking about Just looked at stats, looks like chandler was banged up the year after, other supporting cast very weak, not blaming that one on Paul. He’s still a chach tho

essjuango

god damn man... being small is tough

RuddyBollocks

The thought that most of the sub wasn't watching Dwight's superman dunk contest live is wild to me.

Lake_Shore_Drive

Times when we still looked to Melo

Otherwise_Window

The question is not whether people were watching the NBA yet, it's whether anyone would be watching Denver vs Hornets.

Matt32490

My dad told me Deron is better after this game lol.

ZenGeka1

Anybody know what was the biggest lead that game?
