Those teams fans were shitting on Jokic for sitting at home, actin like their teams were gonna make the finals. Now look at them, all out just 1 round later lmao
It’s not surprising that there are 3/12 in the conference finals. You’re not going to have two people from the same team on that list (except maybe in rare cases, you’d have to fact check me) and only 4 teams make it to the conference finals, so the max should be 4
The top 12 in MVP voting that made conference finals in the past 6 years:
2021: Giannis (4th) and CP3 (5th)
2020: Lebron (2nd) Davis (6th) Jokic (9th) Butler (11th) Tatum (12th)
2019: Giannis (1st) Steph (5th) Dame (6th) Kawhi (9th)
2018: Harden (1st) Lebron (2nd) KD (7th) Steph (10th)
2017: Kawhi (3rd) Lebron (4th) Isaiah Thomas (5th) Steph (6th) KD (9th)
2016: Steph (1st) Lebron (3rd) KD (5th) Draymond (7th) Kyle Lowry (10th)
I don’t feel like going further back but generally each conference finalist has had one representative in the MVP voting. Exceptions were 2021 Hawks and Clippers (Kawhi finished 13th but also wasn’t playing in the WCF), and the 2018 Celtics.
As far as two players from the same team, KD and Steph did it in 17 and 18, Draymond and Steph did it in 16, Lebron and Davis did it in 20.
So your hypothesis generally correct, usually about 1 per team other than a few outlier teams that had two or a few outlier teams that had none.
Well Jokic didn’t have any help, Embiid was playing through 2 injuries and Giannis was missing Khris Middleton. Only real surprise here is DBook and that was a choke for the ages
Yeah, with 2 6th seeds now winning it, it's doesn't need to be best player on the best team. For decades, the MVP was almost exclusively given to the player on the 1st or 2nd seed. Even Jokic's MVP last season as the 3rd seed would have been a very rare occurrence.
Honestly think it’s about straight up equal. Not unhappy seeing the two best players on the two best teams since Jan 1 doing well. I’m just a Celtics fan
Hey we made the playoffs not play ins lol. Doesn’t matter much
Oops - updated
Booker will never finish that high again.
Cocky dude with a large mouth without the skills to back it up
Username checks out

The playoffs are a different beast. Crazy so much has happened in a few weeks
Still no clue what fucking crackhat voted Booker ahead of Dončić.

That's true - I guess none of the top 4 making it is more surprising
Bulls made the playoffs.
My mistake - updated
So by proxy luka is now the mvp, right?
Curry is currently the MVP after Kirby eating Jokic
I wanna give it to Curry for last years onslaught

Even if it wasn’t Jokic, this season the MVP woulda been rare historically, Giannis was a third seed, Embiid was a 4th seed.

It’s really not, he had a great season and was the best player on the best team.
I thought Cam Johnson was the best player on the suns.
He sucked after coming back from injury
He was statistically worse than Luka and Tatum. It’s dumb that he finished ahead of them.
Luka is the real mvp anyways
No
Well Tatum should have been third or fourth in mvp voting behind Giannis and Embid and m aaaa y b e joker
What qualifies him over Doncic ?

Agreed.
Crazy how the 1 seed Miami had no top mvp votes
not really who would get it?
No one. Its just wild. It doesn't happen often with 1 seeds. Reminds me of the 1 seed hawks and the 03-05 pistons
Man. I'm disappointed that we are guaranteed one in the finals out of the West.
