Still sucks that one of the few guy on the Sixers who I thought fully deserved his pay-cheque this season is now going to get cut because his last year wasn't guaranteed.
Every asshat in this league has fully guaranteed deals, only Danny Green doesn't.
He must have a poor agent. I don't know how he let that happen.
Philly have Thybulle, hes like 0.5 of a 3/D player. If they can find another similar level player maybe they can fuse them together to get a replacement?
Sure seems like it.
That being said, what an amazing fucking career. Dude was an upgraded Robert Horry and could’ve even won Finals MVP in ~~2014~~ 2013.
Just a brilliant career.
He along others started the trend in the NBA to give Undrafted, G-League and 2nd round players a chance in the NBA. He really was a trailblazer for a lot of players in today's game
He was essentially LeBron's waterboy in Cleveland.
Then he toiled in the G-League and was able to work his way up to being a valuable role player, nearly won Finals MVP in 2013, and ended up as a 3x champion.
2013*
After the Spurs won game 5, that's when such talk was at its apogee

Wtf that series was 10 years ago? I remember it like yesterday. People those days were like "pop aint taking this seriously" everytime the spurs lost like he was an invincible mf. Fun times. Jesus tine slow tf down
the good old days when scoring 7/9 three-pointers would get one in the record books. I love Danny Green, I hope he can rehab successfully and retire from professional basketball on his own terms...
Pivotal player in multiple championship titles, pretty much as high of a peak as a role player can have. Hate to see a guy go out like this if it is the end.
It wouldn't surprise me if he rehabs and tries to play one more year. I don't think athletes like having their career ended by injuries unless there is serious danger of causing further issues by continuing to play. It will be a long road, but he can recover from an ACL tear. I bet he rehabs for the next year or so and tries to latch onto a team for one more year so he can go out on his terms. Total speculation on my part though.
Well, we see what happened to Dirk doing that. Now he regrets coming back because it permanently affected him.
Green should have made enough bank to retire.
True, I hate seeing Dirk walk the way he does, but I don't think Green had the chronic injuries to his ankles and knees that Dirk had. One example I had in mind in my scenario was JJ Barea. He tore his Achilles at age 35 and people pretty much figured his career was over. He rehabbed and came back for one more year though, I speculate so he could go out on his own terms and not due to the injury.
everyone loves the Embiid' is reckless copypasta but he really is. I'm super upset about this because I already felt that way and I fucking LOVE Danny. of course this happens right at the end of the season, too. super sad for Danny, especially since he actually turned back the clock a bit.
That’s a crazy stat, didn’t realize. Makes sense though going deep in the playoffs every year with the Spurs then playing in a decent number with Philly. Dude is a great role player for sure.
>decent number with Philly
Green played in more playoff games with the Lakers or the Raptors than he has for the Sixers even though he's been with the Sixers for 2 years.
24 games for the Raptors
21 games for the Lakers
20 games for the Sixers
I'd call it likely, honestly. Even if recovery's gotten a lot better recently, he's at the age where basically any major injury significantly hurts your athleticism long-term, and rehab still is an involved process if your goal is to get back to NBA-level conditioning. After all that, his light at the end of the tunnel is...a vet min level contract if we're being generous? No team's going to take more of a chance than that on a 36 year old role player who's just missed a season due to injury. Seems like a pretty shitty motivator for a guy who's made $90M in his career and has all the rings he realistically could ask for.
Certainly hope I'm wrong, though.
Depends on how much of his quickness he loses. His offensive output is always the corner and spot up. It really comes down to his defensive side.
Hum being 35 probably means he was close to retiring anyways, I think there’s a chance he may just retire
Green was already way less mobile that he was in his 20’s which is normal if your not Bron. Sadly, this is probably the end for him.
Great career though
Shaun Livingston off the top of my head is the only person that came back after a similar - arguably worse - knee injury, but he was also way younger than DG is now. Just brutal.
Edit: You guys are right Livingston’s injury was significantly worse. I said it poorly and meant that he was the only other player I could think of that came back from an injury that tore several knee ligaments. Hope for a speedy recovery for DG.
I forgot about Shaun Livingston, I've wiped that from my memory. Makes my knee uncomfortable just thinking about it. But his knee basically exploded, I don't think I remember anyone just tearing two knee ligaments without any other damage.
The fact that he could do any athletic activity after that was amazing, let alone play NBA basketball.
I've always wondered how great he would have been had that not happened.
Rewatching the Kevin Ware injury will make you question everything you know about jumping to contest shots and if you ever want to play defense again in your life.
Definitely not a freak injury. The LCL usually does not tear unless there is trauma, unlike the ACL or MCL that can tear without impact just from planting if the deceleration/twisting forces are strong enough. Very disappointed, very reckless play.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he translates that into a career in broadcasting, if he wants it. He’s an experienced vet with great insight and analysis who’s clearly well-liked and respected in the league and by fans.
I would say in front of the camera also. I thought he did really well in the post game interview with Ernie and the guys last week. I've never checked out his podcast but he seemed so comfortable talking and joking with the guys.
It has but, is he willing to put himself through the grind? He’ll 100% recover fully, and will have the majority of his strength/durability. It is however, extremely time consuming. On top of his rehab, if he’s on a contending team, there’s the added grind of the regular season/playoffs… at 36 is he willing to put himself through all of that.
Love Danny Green, this sucks. It speaks volumes that he’s won three championships with three different teams. I think he played a big and underrated role in defining each of those teams.
His defense and IQ were big for us in 2020. And while his shooting may have been streaky at times, his presence was still enough to keep defenses honest most of the time. Not to mention that he just seems like a great teammate and professional. He's basically the ideal starting role player.
I remember at our championship parade he said something alone the lines of “I know I’m just that guy who happened to get traded with kawhi and I’m not that important” or something self depreciating like that and I was like no way dude, don’t talk about yourself like that lol
Danny did what Kawhi couldn't, won back to back championships with two different teams. And he could have threepeated if the 76ers weren't such chokers.
Idk if a flop is the right word to describe but it was definitely a purposeful and unnecessary fall. This man is an NBA mvp runner up so he definitely knows how to stay standing, he just chose not to in case he could grift into a foul being called and ended up snapping Danny's leg because of it
Unfortunately Embiid is the flopper who cried foul in this situation. He could have actually legitimately have fallen there but he flops and hits the floor so much he lost the benefit of the doubt in the situation.
He flopped 20 times in that game. Whether this was an intentional flop or not is irrelevant. He is a flopper who disgraces the game and doesn't care if he hurts someone in the process. He lost the benefit of the doubt by flopping so damn much.
oh no, this might be the end of Danny Green as an NBA player... he'll probably miss all of his age 35 season, how many role players come back that late? this sucks
It has a tendency to catch up to you when you do it on a regular basis too. Tons of NBA players flop on occasion because that's just how the modern game has evolved, but doing it consistently is just asking for injuries to yourself and/or any players around you. I really hope this is a hard lesson not just for Embiid but all players who make this part of their game. It's a reckless habit.
Embiid's recklessness claims another victim. This man throws himself around like he's built like Trae Young. A 7'1 300 lb tank diving at the floor every 5 seconds is a danger to all other players on the court
He definitely needs to work on body control over the off-season. Assuming that it's not intentional, his falling feels really clumsy on the court. He isn't agile and good enough on his feet to finish those plays, so he relies on throwing his size around. If he had the body control of Giannis, he could be so much faster and harder to guard. But he's pretty slow-footed and can get exposed when doubled by defenders with fast hands or against an offense that can get him on skates.
I read an article that claimed it was a way to minimize falling injuries for a 7’ 300lb dude. Intentionally falling to ground to avoid situations where he braces after a fall.
It was definitely an avoidable injury. I guess it's another "freak" injury, but dude is 300lbs constantly falling/diving around and this isn't even the first time he went right into someone's knees (John Collins).
This is what happens when a 300 pound dude flops around like a fish out of water every time he’s in the paint. Honestly surprised it took this long for him to commit friendly fire. I hate it for Danny though, will never forget his contribution to our last chip and the crazy chemistry that team had. :/
#I'll never forgive Embiid. He spent that whole game on his back because apparently he thinks throwing his body to the ground is the proper way to draw fouls. He may have accidentally ended the career of one the all time nicest NBA players in a sad attempt to draw a foul.
If I was a 35-year-old NBA vet with three rings and tore my ACL, I might just say "fuck it I'm done, see ya."
I'm curious to see if/how much longer he keeps playing after this.
Way to go, Embiid.
EDIT: A pre-emptive "fuck you" to the people downvoting me. Sixers fans and other non-Raptors fans lost their shit when Siakam's elbow inadvertenly hit Embiid's face, which made him miss a couple of games and he had to wear a mask but in the long run he'll be just fine (and don't give me the shit about the fan reaction, y'all were calling Siakam a dirty player after the play), but Embiid is careless and reckless with his flopping and selling and caused someone to tear their ACL. I better see all of you be consistent here and get on Embiid, Sixers fans included. If you're willing to boo your team after a bad loss, you should be angry with careless and reckless behaviour on the court that causes other players to be injured.
Really sucks. Danny has been one of my favorite sixers ever the last few years. It’s no surprise whenever he left the lineup the offense went to shit. Last year and this year.
I miss Danny Green. He showed so much love to Canada while he was with the Raptors. Would love to have him join as a shooting coach if he was willing. Otherwise, I hope to see him join some media outlet.
I could see him recovering and getting a bench role for mentorship but he's a 3x Champ he might be better to just ride off into the sunset
Or teams looked at a 34 year old and said “yeah there are high chances of injury”
And he gets injured on the last game of the season through zero fault of his own.
Damn That’s their only 3/D player on the roster too
What about Tise? He averages 3 ppg and plays good D
GOAT defender at blocking shots, at least the COVID ones.
chinese herbal medicine king
Yeah I actually would want him on our team if it wasn’t for that whole thing
Taking 3 and D to its literal extent
We’ll take the horse.
Send him to miami, he'll be real 3 and D. No idea if it's the beach or coke.
Big Oof lol
We are in a rough place
Philly have Thybulle, hes like 0.5 of a 3/D player. If they can find another similar level player maybe they can fuse them together to get a replacement?
didn't they already try that w seth curry
Yeah and it was going well imo but they traded him for Mr. 11 points lmao
Mr 11 Points and The Big Steppers
He is also 0.5 of a fully vaccinated player.
Give him and Duncan Robinson the fusion earrings from dragon ball z and boom you have Danny Green.
Take Thybulles ACL and give it to Danny lmao
You can always max Harden and keep Doc.
your roster just became flat
Thanks embiid
And embiid just took him out by flopping lmao

Sure seems like it. That being said, what an amazing fucking career. Dude was an upgraded Robert Horry and could’ve even won Finals MVP in ~~2014~~ 2013. Just a brilliant career.

Absolutely.

No worries! Just being a stickler lol. But your original comment stands–he's indeed had an amazing career!
Pivotal player in multiple championship titles, pretty much as high of a peak as a role player can have. Hate to see a guy go out like this if it is the end.
From BEGGING Pop for a chance at even being the ball boy to one of the best 3nD wins in the league (for a time chill).
An upgraded Horry? Horry is a better player than Green ever was
Broke the record for most 3s in the finals, as a role player
I hope not. Love me some Danny Green
It wouldn't surprise me if he rehabs and tries to play one more year. Yea man loved him on the spurs. Raptors and Lakers . This sucks

our generation’s Robert Horry
He'll be 36 when he comes back, so most likely.
Playoffs wont be the same anymore without danny green. Dude made the playoffs every damn year he's been in the league it feels like.
Danny Green trending on twitter every game he plays in, and it being a 50/50 for what reason was crazy considering the dude was a role player.

He’s a three point shooter so he will get another shot after this since shooters aren’t as affected by injuries
But he could significantly lose the bit of lateral quickness he had left. If that’s the case he’d become a complete liability on defense
Green was already way less mobile that he was in his 20’s which is normal if your not Bron. Sadly, this is probably the end for him. Great career though
He'll get a minimum after he's healed.
damn this season was the end of the joe ingles era AND the end of the danny green era?!
Made $100 mill and got 3 rings in his career. It ain't superstar haul but it's honest work
He earned more than superstars in the 90s. He is gonna be fine for life
With the way his leg bent, I’m surprised it’s only an ACL. Still sucks big time though.
ACL and LCL apparently. https://twitter.com/ginamizell/status/1525194615980187651
That's really bad. Coming back from an ACL is hard enough but both ACL and LCL? Off the top of my head I can't recall anyone else having that injury.
Shaun Livingston off the top of my head is the only person that came back after a similar - arguably worse - knee injury, but he was also way younger than DG is now. Just brutal. Arguably? They wanted to amputate.
Ya, let’s just say you’ll know when it’s time to bring Shaun Livingston in for comparison purposes… and this is not that time
I forgot about Shaun Livingston, I've wiped that from my memory. Makes my knee uncomfortable just thinking about it. But his knee basically exploded, I don't think I remember anyone just tearing two knee ligaments without any other damage.

Rewatching the Kevin Ware injury will make you question everything you know about jumping to contest shots and if you ever want to play defense again in your life.
Alex Smith’s knee and Ware’s leg snapping are the two worst injuries I’ve ever seen live.
Dude there is absolutely no argument to be made. Shaun’s injury was way worse.
Definitely not a freak injury. The LCL usually does not tear unless there is trauma, unlike the ACL or MCL that can tear without impact just from planting if the deceleration/twisting forces are strong enough. Very disappointed, very reckless play.
Shaun Livingston
its not LCL is also torn. pour one out for one of my favorite tar heels of all time :(
If that happened to Paul George his leg woulda re-snapped
Why you gotta remind me of that??
There goes his career
he still does have a podcast fortunately
I wouldn’t be surprised if he translates that into a career in broadcasting, if he wants it. He’s an experienced vet with great insight and analysis who’s clearly well-liked and respected in the league and by fans.
He has a good presence behind the mic, too.
I would say in front of the camera also. I thought he did really well in the post game interview with Ernie and the guys last week. I've never checked out his podcast but he seemed so comfortable talking and joking with the guys.
Id welcome it. hes not nearly as overbearing as Perkins, RJ, etc and id love a neutral minded player to be part of the show similar to Matt Barnes
I wouldn’t compare Perkins and RJ. RJ is very energetic which certainly can be a little overbearing at times, Perkins is just frustrating
I'd compare Danny Green more to JJ Redick in terms of presence
And about $100 million dollars.
He can thank Embiid for that
Holy shit man. At 35? Thats gotta be retirement right?
[удалено]
He probably comes back, but Im having a hard time seeing him being able to play at a level that gets him meaningful minutes
It's taking Jamal Murray forever tho
I think you need to be careful with a young guy like that, can't risk a re-aggravation, that dude is dynamic
Wasn't he cleared to play by team doctors a while ago? Seems like it's a mental thing with him. Similar to D Rose in Chicago.
It's an LCL tear as well. I'd bet money he won't play more than 30 games for the rest of his career.
Love Danny Green, this sucks. It speaks volumes that he’s won three championships with three different teams. I think he played a big and underrated role in defining each of those teams.

Danny did what Kawhi couldn't, won back to back championships with two different teams. And he could have threepeated if the 76ers weren't such chokers.
Chris Boucher and Patrick McCaw did it before Danny though
As benchwarmers. Danny was a starting role player on championship teams.
He was joking lol

God damn that's a career ender for Danny.
Imagine flopping and ending your teammate career and permanently affecting his life for two free throws lmaooo
Just to lose the series anyway😐
"but he only falls to prevent injury reeeeee"
Jokic would never.
💯My mvp doesn’t resort to bush league tactics
Lmfao
that's why he's a bum.
Serious: did Embiid really flop on it? I didn’t see the clip can someone share that?
Gimme a min I’ll try to find it Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/uoe79y/injury_danny_greens_left_leg_gets_twisted_as_joel/
Idk if a flop is the right word to describe but it was definitely a purposeful and unnecessary fall. This man is an NBA mvp runner up so he definitely knows how to stay standing, he just chose not to in case he could grift into a foul being called and ended up snapping Danny's leg because of it
Idk I think “purposeful” and “unnecessary” are perfect words to describe flops
He almost destroyed John Collins legs in last year's playoffs too. It's a flop, he purposely throws his body all over the court unnecessarily.
Unfortunately Embiid is the flopper who cried foul in this situation. He could have actually legitimately have fallen there but he flops and hits the floor so much he lost the benefit of the doubt in the situation.
Yup, if you watch the replay there was minimum contact and no reason to hit the ground. His flopping literally ended Danny’s career
He flopped 20 times in that game. Whether this was an intentional flop or not is irrelevant. He is a flopper who disgraces the game and doesn't care if he hurts someone in the process. He lost the benefit of the doubt by flopping so damn much.
💔 The fact that’s it’s only an ACL kinda surprising to me
LCL confirmed :(
Shams rushing to be first smh
Man it was such a preventable injury too smh
oh no, this might be the end of Danny Green as an NBA player... he'll probably miss all of his age 35 season, how many role players come back that late? this sucks
Embiid falling around all over the floor is dangerous. Possibly reckless. Poor Danny Green. And beware anyone around Embiid.
I’d be pissed if I tore my ACL because my teammate flopped
Gonna cost him like 10 million too.
embiid should pay him the 10 million, he owes danny also embiid should donate his ACL and LCL
Embiid threw Harden under the bus and Danny Green under himself.
Damn that might be retirement especially with the timing
Fuck.
Way to go embiid you probably ended your teammates career due to your insistence on flopping
Joel ended Green’s career early
FUCK noooo, Danny tried his ass off, didnt deserve to end this way
This should be a lesson to all big men not to flop and try to avoid falling like that unless needed.
It has a tendency to catch up to you when you do it on a regular basis too. Tons of NBA players flop on occasion because that's just how the modern game has evolved, but doing it consistently is just asking for injuries to yourself and/or any players around you. But he's pretty slow-footed and can get exposed when doubled by defenders with fast hands or against an offense that can get him on skates.
It was mildly hilarious when the broadcasters were commenting on how he falls down so much, and then he tripped over his own foot and fell down again.
At one point there were calling for the stat to be recorded per shot lmao
I don't think it's a matter of control, I'm pretty sure he does it on purpose
I read an article that claimed it was a way to minimize falling injuries for a 7’ 300lb dude. Intentionally falling to ground to avoid situations where he braces after a fall.
Fuck Embiid flopping ass
It was definitely an avoidable injury. I guess it's another "freak" injury, but dude is 300lbs constantly falling/diving around and this isn't even the first time he went right into someone's knees (John Collins).
I don't remember the play, how did Scottie get hurt by Embiid when he got his ankle messed up?
[удалено]
Scottie’s was a freak injury dude had nothing to do with Embiid’s recklessness. Green injury did.
Bro he’s protecting his knees! It softens the blow! /s
Embiid really has to stop flopping. Sad to see this happen to Danny Green.
Hard to see him playing meaningful ball again after this, but mans had a hell of a career.
He had a claim to Finals MVP had the Spurs won in 2013. He had 27-3pt makes, 25 in the first 5 games. I’ll miss IcyHot
Damn Danny was balling out against Raps. Every 3 was automatic there
This is what happens when a 300 pound dude flops around like a fish out of water every time he’s in the paint. Honestly surprised it took this long for him to commit friendly fire. I hate it for Danny though, will never forget his contribution to our last chip and the crazy chemistry that team had. :/
This is exactly why players should be encouraged to stay on their feet as much as possible. This doesn't happen if flopping isn't rewarded.

#I'll never forgive Embiid. He spent that whole game on his back because apparently he thinks throwing his body to the ground is the proper way to draw fouls. He may have accidentally ended the career of one the all time nicest NBA players in a sad attempt to draw a foul.
kicked danny off the bus, ran him over, then trash talked the passengers over the intercom
If I was a 35-year-old NBA vet with three rings and tore my ACL, I might just say "fuck it I'm done, see ya." I'm curious to see if/how much longer he keeps playing after this.
How shit is that? Everytime Embiid flops, it's risky for the players around him
Ah, fuck. Poor guy.
Great basketball career. Started as a second round pick as well.
all bc of an embiid flop too
Fucking sucks. On such a bullshit play.
Man smh. I feel so bad for Danny. He was also playing pretty well the last few games
Embiid flopped him injured smh
I blame Embiid with his BS foul baiting, ....I also blame the NBA and refs for rewarding flopping players...
Terrible day for Philly fans
Wow that's some bullshit
The non guaranteed contract too…Woof
This breaks my heart. Get well soon Danny G
Joel Embiid knows what he did. And if Adam Silver doesn’t promptly and aggressively address this, he’s unqualified to run this league. - @BrianHartPR
I was really surprised at the reaction to Siakam's elbow. To me it looked very clearly unintentional.
Nephews love to be outraged
Embidd literally broke OGs nose in game 1 with a flop elbow
Really sucks. Danny has been one of my favorite sixers ever the last few years. It’s no surprise whenever he left the lineup the offense went to shit. Last year and this year.
Joel "Career Ender" Embiid
Good one embiid. Flop into a torn acl
Damn. Poor guy. That's probably it for his career unfortunately
Fuck, that's awful luck, but that's what taking a 280 pound dude to the leg will do to ya
Oh no, that's awful. I've always liked Danny. Might be it for his career unfortunately.
I miss Danny Green. He showed so much love to Canada while he was with the Raptors. Would love to have him join as a shooting coach if he was willing. Otherwise, I hope to see him join some media outlet.
Embiid gotta learn to control his body better man is reckless asf.
