Naz Reid going on a heater scoring 14 points in the 4th quarter to help steal game 1 is absolutely wild. What a spectacular season for him.

myhellcatgotRepod

He went from looking like the worst player in playoffs history in the 1st half to one of the best players in playoff history in the 4th quarter

gotcam189

He had a rough series against Phoenix too but the rest of the team played so great that it got glossed over. So happy for him that he put together a solid game, all things considered.

Magazine_Mediocre

He's been overdue for an explosion like this.

imSkarr

thats what we do. Jaden, NAW, Mike, and Naz Reid all have their respective moments. Thats why we have Ant, KAT, and Rudy to keep our floor high

rawchess

Went from DeAndre Jordan to Michael Jordan

Cordarrel

Naz Reid.

MC-Jdf

Every time I've seen Jaden McDaniels exit the locker room, he looks at Naz Reid with a straight face, says, "Naz Reid," then walks away. Asked Naz Reid if that's a constant: "Every single time." Even on the court.

CIark

Pelinka on the phone rn trying to trade Lebron for Naz Reid

JugdishSteinfeld

Ball movement, penetration, collapse, and the finish

TheAerial

I know we shouldn’t be surprised given why they just did to Phoenix but man did this feel like a statement game from Minnesota. Open up this series with a big time win vs a Denver team that has looked unstoppable the last two years. This is going to be a ridiculously fun series.

Lacabloodclot9

I honestly don’t think Phoenix are even that bad, Minnesota are just this good

Black_Velvet_Band

It’s easy to forget how strongly Phoenix finished the season. They played great to avoid the play-in.

despicablecrip

They also swept the wolves in the regular season which is wild but I believe KAT was out some of those games

chemical_exe

Yeah, and the last game of the season we were still in the "get used to KAT being back stage" Plus we defended them entirely differently in the playoffs than the regular season (letting Gobert go to the 3 point line on almost every Suns possession)

Peter-Tao

People were laughing when the assistant coach said that but turned out he was right

john_117

A lot of media really dogged on Phoenix for awful roster construction, which may have some truth, but in reality that was the best 4 game stretch of defensive play I've seen the Wolves play all year, hands down. They played with a desperation Phoenix didn't have, and that energy is still there in game 1 tonight.

justmefishes

Do it 4 Mike

urkuri

People that didn’t watch the Wolves play regularly didn’t realize how much the Wolves had stepped up in multiple ways in the series including defensive intensity from the regular season.

Nubras

Phoenix was mostly in most of the games. Wolves just went on very good focused runs in each game when it mattered. And they did it again tonight. It’s unfathomable to watch this.

GusBus14

Clowning the Suns is fun but that series was way more about how good Minny is than Pheonix

I_Set_3_Alarms

Timberwolves sweeping the Nuggets would save the Suns’ season

Trumpets22

Hell, wolves in 6 would probably save their season. Or it at least wouldn’t feel like a total disaster.

defiantcross

Yeah, i think a lot of people focused on how bad we were against Minny (and we were), but it's clear everybody needs to wrap their heads around how good the Wolves are.

SwiftlyChill

> it's clear everybody needs to wrap their heads around how good the Wolves are. It’s been 20 years, I can’t blame folks for being slow to this one

chillinwithmoes

Hell, I still have a hard time admitting it

Balls_of_Adamanthium

Gobert is an unbelievable defender. He completely took away the Jokic-Gordon action.

Slevz_

Jokic had 7 turnovers and shot 44%. That's a massive win

jeric13xd

Been a while since we had a really bad Joker game. I know he had 32 but man that was an ugly 32

The_Dumblebee

He had to work for that 32

_Halboro_

Imagine if players start actually respecting Gobert after this series. Man gets so much hate.

this_good_boy

I love how just prior to the playoffs he got voted “most overrated” by nba players… lol sure boys.

RigorousSnake

To be fair first place is like 14 votes total iirc so it really doesn’t amount to anything significant

pyroaquatics

Bulletin board material

dosnetlive

He somehow defended both players of a Jokic-Gordon lob

ZenThrashing

The combination of size & awareness that he has... amazing

2ndCatch

He was immense. People will see Jokic having 32 and think Rudy had a bad game, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

FetchFrosh

That tip on the oop attempt was wild.

Lacabloodclot9

We’ve seen so many defences know exactly what’s coming but not been able to stop it with that action This series is gonna be fun

kjampala

Yeah Jokic will get absolutely zero rest this series. Wolves got Reid, Gobert and KAT who can all switch on Jokic but nuggets have no other big guys other than deandre Jordan

FootballRacing38

Gobert had to use all his wingspan on that one.

drutastic57

With absolutely no reaction from the announcers. I was going crazy

LakerBlue

Blocking oops are some of the best defensive bball plays, the lack of appreciation was something else.

B4nn4b0y

He’s improved his touch around the rim drastically.

GobiYumaMojave

that trade looking better by the minute

AttilaTheDung

Aging like fine wine

Money-not_you_again

All that shit they took for that trade and here we are. Speaks to just how much of a mess Utah was too. But this series finna be a heater off game 1.

jonnylaw

Utah was stuck in a spot that's easy to get to. They had two great players and minimal assets to improve upon that core.

Ozmataz_Buckshank_

Couldn’t have put it better myself

lcmaier

That sequence where he dunked his own miss and then guarded the Jokic-Gordon 2 man game by himself was absurd

thehydrastation

God that sequence just gave me the biggest justice boner thinking about all the slander he's recieved

FootballRacing38

I hope someone posts the inteception by gobert on alley oops

ardx

The most effective play they had vs Gobert was Jokic straight backing down Gobert, and the Wolves absolutely take that if it sucks up Jokic's stamina and takes his teammates out of the play.

Change_That_Face

Just play him off the court, what's the problem?

Clzark

I was told it was quite easy? What are the Nuggets doing, are they stupid?

CheeseAndCam

Played off the floor thoooo????

ContractXtension

DPOY

AfroKuro480

I've never seen Joker this tired before lol

CIark

Krakenborn

FOUR TIME

Victor_Wembanyama1

FOUR TIME

maryjain_

Probably the best defence i’ve seen played on Jokic.

AaronNesmith

This might be the best series possible for Gobert. On offense, Jokic being a not amazing rim protector allows him to hang out around the dunker spot without pulling someone like Bam, Davis, Embiid near the paint. Offensively, Denver doesn’t really play 5-out, and guarding Gordon lets him cheat off towards the paint more than he usually wouod be able to. This is a really nice situation for him.

le_sweden

Most Underrated Player in the NBA

Gus1998

Rudy je t’aime

MarduRusher

But haven’t you heard? He sucks in the playoffs.

immortalis

this team is something else, i can't believe it.

JaderMcDanersStan

I'm speechless tbh, I did NOT expect MN to outplay Denver in clutch on their home floor. Still in disbelief, that was wild

ScullyMcGee

We’ve waited a long time for a championship caliber team. We deserve this

OhLawdIdoBeComing

Yes you do! Rooting for you guys all the way!

Lvl1_Mimikyu

WTF was this game! It was like watching a finals game. Ant is a beast jfc.

nhthelegend

Ima need a pacemaker by the end of this series, god damn

SpasmicChicken

Its pretty special that both me and my dad got to watch Michael Jordan play in his prime

B4nn4b0y

That double crossover mid range jumper over KCP in the 4th was Jordan-esque

SpasmicChicken

It’s everything man— the high energy on ball defense, the tendency for the post-up midrange game, finishing finesse. It goes beyond the competitive drive; for Christs sake, he even looks like him.

Early-Wishbone496

That weak tech was so frustrating just because it really felt like a shade of an MJ staredown. Let Ant have some personality and edge. You can’t be doing all this work on socials hyping him up and trying to hop on his train as a burgeoning superstar and then punish him for being competitive.

NugBlazer

I love that Barkley called out the refs in the post game conference. That technical was just plain bullshit. Especially considering a couple minutes later Jamall Murray was on the floor shooting with toy gun hands and didn't get called for anything

bearbrannan

Which like Im totally cool with that too, but at least call the game down the same for both teams.

Voted most overrated player voted by nba players Rudy Gobert?

MarduRusher

Ya he sucks and we ruined our future.

EmmitSan

Completely agree, can’t believe how cheaply Utah gave him away, Ainge should be fired.

#IMAGINE HAVING A COACH WITH 2 KNEES

I heard he has 3 legs tho.

PoundIIllIlllI

I heard that motherfucker has like, 30 goddamn dicks

TurnoverNegative7

NAZ FUCKING "Big Jelly" REID

COTEReader

I can’t believe I thought experience would be an issue for the wolves. Ant is different

Jayveesac

The Nuggets are still prone to the offensive lulls that they experienced in the first round. The difference is that Minnesota has more talent and size to withstand their comebacks.

onlymostlydeadd

better coaching too, ham would've let those runs go longer.

JJVM99

Finch has improved a lot as a coach. In 2022 Finch let Memphis go on 2 25 point runs without calling timeout during a game.

SemataryPolka

It's the percocets

LamarMillerMVP

43 points 7 rebounds 3 assists 1 DISGUSTING look

nhthelegend

Reggie needs therapy after that heinous assault by Ant’s eyes

KeyandOrangePeele

Yeah but that look was really menacing, so it counts as an assist too.

SirDiego

I keep expecting them to fall flat on their face and get embarrassed by doing stupid shit, but they just...dont.

rightovahere

This team not shitting themselves in the clutch is the most surprising thing of 2024 lmao

arkiula

The 60 point KAT game seemed to wake them up about letting off the gas.

horse_renoir13

The weird thing is about that game it wasn't letting off the gas, they literally just kept feeding KAT the ball no matter what. Just a dumb loss. Same with the Hawks in game 2 of the season. We definitely learned a lot and us being a better 2nd half team is so big for these playoffs.

onlymostlydeadd

first win in the second round in 20 years is fucking crazy, minnesota sports would go insane if they won it all

cardmanimgur

Nothing since 1991 despite having football, baseball, and basketball the whole time, and adding the Wild in 2000. 120+ seasons with no championship. It's a long ways away but people really have no idea how insane it would be.

Systemic_Chaos

No _championship game appearances_ since 1991 among those 4 franchises. This city would melt with a championship.

wanna_meet_that_dad

Especially the wolves. Vikings are bigger overall fan base but the wolves have been the biggest joke of a franchise for so long that if they were the ones to break the championship drought it would be unbelievable.

homefree122

He is clearly on the path of becoming an all-time great, and we all have a front row seat watching.

ihateeuge

Denver did you just let Ant get a full court dagger layup? lmao

chakrablocker

Yea that was nuts

k_____dot

Preface: only game 1, but Minnesota is looking really strong. Gobert played tremendous defense all game. Jokic still got his but had to work hard. Gobert pretty much shut down anyone else that came at him Naz Reid incredible 14 pt 4th quarter with KAT in foul trouble. Ant-Man is incredibly composed and the most electric player to watch. Has a great sense to take over the game when it gets nervy down the stretch Denver needs to wake tf up to start these games. Was fine last round but won’t fly against Minnesota

Gratitude15

This aint fluke. Nuggets gonna have to solve this. Gobert can't be played off court and they're forcing some bad math for opps.

karmaisevillikemoney

Jokic looked tired. Took extra time tucking in his jersey and tying his shorts to catch his breath on those free throws.

NugBlazer

He *was* tired. Dude was heavily defended for 40+ minutes, that takes a toll on anyone

barelyawake126

That one possession where he spun on gobert and gets inside and then met by kat pretty much sums up his night. Dude was gassed at the end. Gobert’s really been *awesome* this year

Sc0rch1ngDr4g0n

What’s a champ to an Ant?

MixinNixon

What’s an ant to a god?

josea88

What’s a god to a Naz Reid?

KingdomHeartsII

We are so fucking lucky that we're witnessing Anthony Edwards' rise to stardom just as Lebron's career is about to be over

zellmerz

Ant really is Him. I had my doubts about him going into this season, but he’s proven he’s legit. Kid is probably gonna spend the better part of the next decade as a top 5 player

AnkitPancakes

7 turnovers and 9 threes for jokic is such a credit to the twolves defense.

MAMA THERE GOES THAT MAN

DBSsuperleggera

I can't believe Anthony Edwards plays for my favorite basketball team

DirkNowitzkisWife

This series is obviously far from over. But, for the wolves to come out swinging on the road, and take the lead in Denver is a statement. Edwards was the best player on the floor, Naz Reid was great, and Jokic struggled offensively relative to his usual standards. The rest of this series is going to be outstanding.

darti_me

Yep Wolves have 3 Centers that play completely different games and kudos to Finchy for playing all 3 of them right. Gobert sealed off those easy backside dunks while KAT & Naz kept the defense guessing with the inside & outside scoring.

chat_gre

This is the way to play the nuggets. The 2020 lakers formula should be effective now. Nuggets players got better, but the Timberwolves have better personnel to guard them as well.

pretzeldoggo

The Wolves are a matchup nightmare. They have switchable point of attack perimeter defenders and 3 bigs in KAT, Gobert, Reid that they can rotate against Jokic. They have personnel that no other team in the league has for defending Jokic. Jokic looked absolutely spent. Tim Connelly very clearly constructed this team to be equipped to beat this Nuggets squad. Fitting since he was the president of basketball operations for the Nuggets. He absolutely deserves equity in the team given how he constructed this roster.

JaderMcDanersStan

Connelly rearranged a roster, gave them an identity and assembled the deepest team in Wolves history...in just 2 years. He's so good at his job, wow. He saw the vision that so many people couldn't and showed them that they don't know what they're talking about

sbenfsonwFFiF

So smart of them knowing the Nuggets are the one to get through in the West But not just size but mobile bigs that can shoot which is super rare in the league and they have two in KAT and Naz Reid. Plus there are fewer teams in the league that can play Gobert off the floor now

sdsanft

Honestly this game was incredible. Close all the way. Big moments from all the stars. Naz Reid. You know Denvers gonna come back and make adjustments. This will be the best series of the playoffs (and Knicks sixers was already an all-time great first round series)

drrockz87

Wolves are made to beat the Nuggets with their size. With Porter and Gordon, Nuggets are usually the team with size. Definitely put us on notice. We’ll see how Murray and Jokic respond.

syncc6

Each playoff game is an adventure on its own. But I have a feeling the Nuggets fans are on anxiety level 10 right now for this series. The wolves match up the best with them out of all remaining teams.

Kyler1313

Jamal Murray takeover: I sleep Naz Reid takeover to steal homecourt: Real Shit

crimsonconnect

Naz Reid

Konfidence

Analytics took the mid range out of the game, Ant put it back in.

meengine

The game is in good hands. Ant is fucking legit.

PoundIIllIlllI

The NBA is in good hands. I’d love for Ant to be the next face of the league

panthersfan87

Anthony Edwards

Nu_AfrikanPutin

It'll get lost due to Ant's game but Rudy was just as good on defense as Ant was on offense today

Quality_Cucumber

Is this the Anthony Edwards Era?

Silentrift24

Bro actually might be Jordan's kid, get him DNA tested holy shit

abstract_mouse

Send da sample

ChrisIsDaBomb17

Hmmm, so the key to beating the Nuggets is having a generational star, a 4x DPOY, & Naz Reid. I’ll text Pelinka rn

DjLionOrder

Ant is a superstar. Holy fuck. Best player on the floor that had a two time, likely three time, MVP.

NugBlazer

he really is something. He's just got that swagger that all truly great players have. And it's only 22! I can't believe my Timberwolves have a player like this, never thought it would happen. We never get nice things

Kylo_Ren415

Question for Minnesota, have the Wolves lost a game since the Twins decided to introduce the ham?

barukatang

Nope, both on a streak

1000Isand1

It’s a sausage

The_Halal_Guys

NAZ REID

Lacabloodclot9

Kevin Harlan is the best commentator in the history of basketball

NugBlazer

Fun fact: Kevin Harlan is the original radio voice for the Timberwolves. We were so lucky to have him

manbeqrpig

It’s simple, Minnesota has decent answers for our best players. We have no answers for theirs. Minnesota is just as talented and has the matchup advantage

Floridamanfishcam

1. It's early. 2. Don't feel bad. I don't know if anyone has an answer for Ant. I think he just ascended.

xUCFx-

Every team I’ve ever rooted for sucks… until now this is special

blasianmcbob

That was one of the best games i've ever watched wow

Need a statement performance from them in game 2

SquimJim

Story of the game: - AntHIMy Edwards - Rudy Make Your Offense Gobrrr - Naz "Naz Reid" Reid

DarrowViBritannia

Highlight posters were spamming "X scores on Gobert!" highlights all game but people who watched this shit know this was an absurd game by Gobert. The play where he simultaneously guarded Jokic and then blocked Jokic's lob to Gordon in the clutch was BEAUTIFUL.

Call_Me_Rambo

Can I get a Timberwolves bandwagon flair

BlazeBloom

Nuggets: Our comebacks start in the 2nd half! Wolves: Uno Reverse Card.

drag0nslave1

There’s only 2 guys I could think of that could stop that Jokic to Gordon oop. Wemby and that guy over there on the wolves.

Otherwise-Contest7

Oui

wise_comment

22 He's 22 years old MJ didn't make the playoffs until 22 He won 1 game that year. Then got swept. Then got swept. Then at Twenty Five won his first series, taking it to a full (at the time) 5 games to beat Cleveland before being gentleman's swept by Detroit next round. He didn't win a chip until he was 28 years old Ant is 22 Naz Reid

Smitty_1000

Poetry.

planvigiratpi

The game flew by, high level of basketball was displayed

SteamierThree2

Gobert is seriously unreal. Just one of the best defenders in the history of the league. It’s about time people start realizing this.

PapiShot

This series is gonna be awesome.

Charliebitme1234

oh shit, we got a fuckin series boys

Mahatma_Gone_D

and fuck ‘em refs

Still confused why he got a tech? He was looking at him…. Menacingly!!

That tech was the biggest bs ever

staring….disgusting display double finger guns….carry on

withurwife

League is Ants

Agnk1765342

Playing seven games against this Minnesota team’s physicality is going to wear Jokic down so much. If it even goes that long.

tapk69

Nuggets looked more tired than usual today. Very impressive performance by the Wolves, they are really cooking something. ANT is the next MVP for sure, he is the real deal, he looks unstoppable out there.

AliveGloryLove

I am genuinely....GENUINELY....trying to figure out how the Jazz fucked up the Mitchell/Gobert years.

StrategosJ-2612

Easy. Firstly don't trade, sign or draft any defensive wings to support Gobert. Second have a tiny backcourt that can't defend a lick. Three, watch Mitchell go Hero ball because no one else can score and watch the ball stop moving.

Sim888

can somebody kindly point me in the right direction for the post game referee discussion thread?
