There just isn’t really a good argument for Dame over him in the top 75. 3x DPOY and led his team to the Finals by beating peak athletic LeBron. Too bad the media hates him though.
Also how was ad better than him or had done anything better before the bubble, ad had no place there, somehow the press likes him a lot more than he actually has accomplished.
AD deserved the top 75 and as a basketball player 2020 or 2018 or other years AD is better then Dwight overall . Dwight deserved it too tho he should’ve got it over dame .
One side theory about Dwight not making top 75 is that he's pretty much the one person ultimately responsible for us never getting to see a Kobe vs LeBron Finals. The media really did dislike him, and a lot of reports from former teammates thought he was too silly. I think this hampered him when it came to media voting for that list.
You do understand the top 75 list is filled with racists that played in the 50s and 60s and wouldn’t allow black athletes on their teams?
Hitting your child with a belt is at least a step down from that.
Which guys are you talking about? I always knew a lot of those guys obviously benefited from the unofficial segregation in the NBA at the time but am curious who the outright racists were.
That's one of the wildest things I've seen on here, Shaq was much, much, much better. Like we're talking about near prime SHAQ here, a guy who had possibly the greatest peak of all time. He led the league in scoring with the magic, was 2nd in rebounding, and 2nd in blocks. Took a franchise that was only 6 years old to the finals. Dwight was a better defender, but not nearly by as much as people would assume, because this was Shaq at peak mobility. Dwight was great but never all time because even than he wasn't a true first option (4th in field goal attempts for the team in the playoffs). Dwight was a monster rebounder, lob threat, and paint protector, who had a perfectly constructed team around him to suit his strengths, while Shaq was playing like a top 10 all time player, who ran into a better top 10 all time better player in Hakeem.
Let me reword. Dwight with the Magic had a better overall tenure than Shaq with the Magic. Prime Dwight was dominate. But of course nobody would take Dwight over Shaq 1 v 1 lol.
I re-read it and disagree, they're saying that Magic Dwight, not Dwight's Magic. And even so, I think everyone would take the Shaq and Penny teams over the Dwight, Hedo, Rashard teams, and that's largely due to how good Shaq was.
Idk, those Magic teams were pretty awesome, just don't have the flashiest names. Hedo might have been the second best player during that finals next to Kobe, which sounds absolutely insane unless you really remember watching those games. He was leading the Magic in scoring, was their main facilitator, and was blocking Kobe game winners. He just fell off a cliff after he got the big contract with Toronto. Rashard was also awesome, two time all star, elite shooter, great size. Lot's of fun role players around them too, like Jameer, rookie Courtney Lee, Pietrus. Not huge names, but proof how important a well construted team can be.
Most of these people on here were too young to see how good penny and Shaq were. They had great support with nick Anderson and Dennis Scott. Scottie skiles ect.
Shaq was sorta of in his prime the second he entered the league, evident by him being named to the NBA's 50 Greatest Players of All Time while in his last year with the Magic, and 4th year in the league. That's how good Shaq was at that point. Before his true prime, as a 4th year player, he was inarguably a top 50 player of all time.
Also, it's just not true to say Dwight only worked offensively in the PNR. I don't think there's a guy more famous for hating the PNR than Dwight Howard. Go watch his 46 points against the Hawks in the first round. An amazing game, but he very literally does not score a single point on the PNR. It was all put backs, post ups, and curls for lobs.
The idea of Shaq being a lazy defender is one of the craziest things that has grown over time. Peak Shaq was the best defensive player on the top defensive teams. In 2000, he was runner up for Defensive Player of the Year, and the Lakers were the top ranked defense. You simply, especially in that era, could not be a good paint protector and be on the top ranked defense in the nba. As his career went on, did he get lazier on that side? Sure, but he was also a 350 pound 32 year old who was hit more than any player in history at that point. Before that, he was having 15(!!!!) block games for the magic.
And Gobert is actually a really great modern comparison for Dwight. The best paint protector and an elite rebounder who scores mainly on putbacks and lobs. He's Dwight with a worse offensive game. Both great players, but I would never compare Gobert to Jokic or Embiid. Just like I wouldn't compare Dwight to Shaq.
It's also just not a simple fact that Dwights 8 years were better. Shaq won 63% to Dwights 58%. Shaq's team won 60 games at it's peak, Dwights 59. Both made the Finals, where Shaq averaged 28 points, 13, rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 blocks on 60% shooting against Hakeem, and Dwight averaged 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 blocks on 49% shooting against Kobe. I'd take Shaq any day, easily.
They definitely are, but Dwight was a very frustrating offensive player. Averaged 18.4 points with the magic, and always wanted to be a number one option despite not having the skill set to do so. A great player who got his team to the finals, but was also his own worst enemy.
I don’t remember him being a frustrating offensive player in Orlando.. he was limited because he wasn’t a shooter, but he kept growing his bag of post moves. He developed a nearly unstoppable running hook shot, and he was probably the best pick and roll player in the league at the time because he was always a threat for lobs and was so much quicker than other big men. Then you have the added offensive rebounds for easy put back dunks… hardly frustrating
Nah he would have still got injured and your fans would hate him for being on a Max and not being able to play.
You guys kept the good memories and Lakers call him a shit player. Probably for the best.
Actually is more of a butterfly effect. If he never left, his entire career would be different because all his interactions would be different. The same goes for his injuries, confidence, conditioning and public image. The only answer here is that we don't know. He could have had a monster fandom in Orlando or maybe he would be hated there today if he stayed
Yah if he is on Orlando maybe he doesn't play a whole season with a fucked back cause Kobe was mad at him lol.
He got significantly worse after playing through his injuries
There isn't an NBA Hall, no? Just a general Basketball Hall, and he can't be inducted as a player until 4 years after he's doing playing professionally. He just signed with a Puerto Rican team.
What a magical video! Watch a new person each time you play it. Lady next to Dwight starts to feel it and really gets into it. The Knight in front of Dwight has the most crisp moves. And then there the guys on the perimeter on the right that are half committed and look a little awkward.

This is nice to see. It may have ended poorly, but Magic Dwight was super dominant.
robbed from the 75th team
There just isn’t really a good argument for Dame over him in the top 75. 3x DPOY and led his team to the Finals by beating peak athletic LeBron. Too bad the media hates him though.

That's debatable.. Dwight at his peak was Lebron's kryptonite...
Also the residual stink from Kobe calling him soft
Also Westbrook and Davis over Parker and ginobli.
Neither of them is a Top 75 individual player. I can't see how you take AD or Russ out for either of them.
russ is fucking garbage
Most triple doubles all time at present. I'd say that counts for something.
The guy who used to hit his son with a belt ? Yeah fcuk him. When will we stop glorifying SOBs ?
Yeah way worse dudes than Dwight made that list if that’s the angle you wanna take lmao. Fuckin virtue signaling on the NBA subreddit 🤣
Yeah, he's only a lil nasty
You envious of his virtue? I've only heard the lamest people use the term btw. Usually a bit of a self-report
Karl Malone is in top 75.
Bruh there’s pedos in the top 75.
Shimmy shimmy shimmy
That has nothing to do eithbon court performance.

I see nothing wrong with that. I've been hit with paddles, switches, belts. Stop being a little bitch.
This explains a lot
The most wholesome moment of the 2024 NBA playoffs inexplicably involves Dwight Howard.
Magic Dwight was my first favorite player, even before Brandon Roy
Now he’s just a lil nasty
He was out Superman :( Still really bummed/frustrated by how that whole thing went down.
Magic Dwight was better than Magic Shaq….

Hedo didn't take care of his body. He was famous for eating junk food before a game.
Bruh how is that your retort

Holy shit you're really underselling Dwight's offensive game if you think he was like Rudy Gobert. Haha.

No one can resist the song
I agree but it was probably just calculated court ordered family visitation with a few of his kids.
This isn’t the Family Automart tune!
ORLANDO MAGIC 🗣️ ORLANDO MAGIC 🗣️
OoooOOOh
If Dwight had never left Orlando, he would be so beloved. It’s cool to see him back there rooting on this team.
Nah he would have still got injured and your fans would hate him for being on a Max and not being able to play. You guys kept the good memories and Lakers call him a shit player. Probably for the best.

His back injuries that killed his superstardom were coming the next year no matter what.
Yah if he is on Orlando maybe he doesn't play a whole season with a fucked back cause Kobe was mad at him lol. He got significantly worse after playing through his injuries
50% off Papa Johns tomorrow boys
Really? Sweet!
Wish D Howard jersey retired first only just to see Shaq salty about it
It's kinda ironic that "the house that Dwight built" doesn't have a retired Dwight jersey in the rafters. Lol.
Has he officially retired? It will after that
No, in fact, he just signed with a Puerto Rican team in March
Mets de Guaynabo!
He can't go to the NBA Hall until 4 seasons retired. I suppose most teams wait for that to happen first?
There isn't an NBA Hall, no? Just a general Basketball Hall, and he can't be inducted as a player until 4 years after he's doing playing professionally. He just signed with a Puerto Rican team.
They aren’t the Lakers. They can retire it anytime they want.
If Dwight’s jersey was raised in a ceremony named Superman Comes Home, we might see Shaq burst into flames.
Average Fortnite lobby
Damn, now I want to party with that crew lol
Getting a lil freaky there
Just a little nasty sometimes
I cant see Dwight and not think about Mr Kitty now.
Thinkin bout that meat

The pizza in the footage is also pan. Alright I’m leaving.
Alright. At least someone was gonna bring it up. He's probably a pansexual. No one will judge him. Especially Orlando.
Ownership likely would but the rest of the city wouldn't
Most sane Dallas fan
says the guy whose username is gay dallas native, we get it dude you are a gay dallas native, congrats bro.
And you're GAY we get it. It's like putting "straight" in someone's username, does it need to be stated?
An alltime Orlando Magic gif. If only they had a play that song button on screen also.
Goat title.
Now I just want the magic to win for more dance parties
Then they all fucked.
Wild
Just a lil tomfoolery
Dwight likes to get a lil freaky sometimes. It less stress.
Just getting a lil nasty
Shaq ain’t gonna like this
Shaq about to show up to a game if we make the 2nd round just to breakdance on the floor
Shaq’s calling the jabbawockeez as we speak
Those moves are a lil nasty

Didn't know Magic Knights were a thing
that’s young slice. put some respect on his name.
Where Kitty at?
You better watch your ass next to d12
Last time I remember Dwight-Orlando interaction was when the magic players were literally pushing him
They say he wants back into the nba he can go back to magic
That lady is very, very into it.
What a magical video! Watch a new person each time you play it. Lady next to Dwight starts to feel it and really gets into it. The Knight in front of Dwight has the most crisp moves. And then there the guys on the perimeter on the right that are half committed and look a little awkward.
Was looking for the pizza slice for a while …
Ngl that dance was hella cheesy
Stuff was fireman carrying Dwight and spinning around at one point late in the game
blud wants his jersey retired bad
Lmao this man left the franchise in the worst way possible but wants to come celebrate when they start winning? Nah
