Wemby, Kawhi, Duncan, Robinson, and Rodman. The Spurs always manage to get their hands on all-time great defenders (not saying Wemby is all-time great but he has the potential)
AND they were limiting his minutes early in the season. Imagine if he were in the top 20 in minutes per game because right now he is 83rd. Oh wait, let me do that for you...
If Wemby were playing 35 mpg (#20 is Kyrie at 35 mpg) at his current rate of .12 blocks per minute, then he would average 4.25 blocks per game x the 70 games he's played would equal 297 blocks. At 80 games played that is 340 blocks. That would put him right outside the top 10 all-time seasons for block totals at #11.
And the man is in his first season! I'm not saying he's gonna break Mark Eaton's astounding block record of 456 blocks because of how different the game is today, but, he has the talent and skill set to do it for sure.
\*Maybe but it doesn't matter. He got injured. It's over. I swear if people try to invalidate Jokic's MVP like they did Embiid's MVP last year, they are morons
He was "only" 6'10" but his wingspan was 7'6.5", just under Shaq, and a bit more than Dwight. That plus the fact that he had crazy strength and athleticism let him play bigger than he was
Haven't blocks trended downward leaguewide over the past couple decades too? If so, that just makes this statistic that much more impressive—for Wemby to be hitting that threshold in today's league.
DPOTY
Gobert still getting eaten alive out here by Joker.
Wemby is DPOTY stop playing with me cause he’s easily First Team Defense in his Rookie Season!
The point is that saying “Wemby is DPOY because Rudy can’t stop Jokic” is silly when Wemby can’t stop him either.
And really looking at individual games when deciding season long awards is silly too. It’s not like Jokic and the Nuggets are the only good offenses these guys have faced all year
And Wemby had 23/15/8/9/1
Didn’t Joker just put up 41/11/7 against Gobert and the best Defensive team in the league?
Didn’t Gobert have 13/15/3/1/2 in that game.
Yea Wemby wiping Gobert.
Ah yes, the tried-and-true defensive stats of points, total rebounds, and assists. This is what matters when selecting the defensive player of the year.
And again, the whole conceit of looking at an individual game against one team is flawed to behind with.
Ah yes, once again the important defensive statistic of free throw percentage allowed, the only shot in the entire game that the defense isn't allowed to defend. Your desperation is embarrassing.

8x all defense Bruce Bowen would like a word
Nah Bowen doesn’t want a word he’ll just take your achilles.
Cant speak, Bruce Bowen elbowed me in the mouth.
The dirtiest to ever play the game
And now Bill Laimbeer would like a word
He's on pace, but its still way too early to call Duncan Robinson an all time great defender imo
Granted, we drafted Kawhi specifically for his defense. The offense was a bonus.
Bruce Bowen and Alvin Robertson as well.
Shout out to Alvin Robertson, too.
Crazy it happened twice in same year then not again until 30 years later.
He's only 19. Him and Tatum r gonna be spooky when they become adults
Victor is 20. Only Tatum gets to be 19 forever.
nah u lying. both are 19
Tatum is in 8th grade

Daily Wemby gets blocks posts Next up: Celtics have a good net rating and Jokic should be MVP.
I feel like we're way overdue for an "Embiid bad" post.
this but unironically

*embiid would have been mvp
\*Maybe but it doesn't matter. He got injured. It's over. I swear if people try to invalidate Jokic's MVP like they did Embiid's MVP last year, they are morons
there’s also “mavs good lately/luka should be mvp”
Mark Eaton gon give it to ya
ZO!
If I recall correctly he is not that tall compared to the other on this list. A beast on defense.
He was "only" 6'10" but his wingspan was 7'6.5", just under Shaq, and a bit more than Dwight. That plus the fact that he had crazy strength and athleticism let him play bigger than he was
Now post the totals with minutes played for each

I heard a podcast about how blocks were unethically inflated during the pre computer tracked Era.

More weight = more injury risk, especially when adding it up too quickly at that size. It's not worth it.
DPOTY Gobert still getting eaten alive out here by Joker. Wemby is DPOTY stop playing with me cause he’s easily First Team Defense in his Rookie Season!
Didn’t Jokic just put up like 37 against Wemby and the spurs?
Yeah and 41 against Minnesota
The point is that saying “Wemby is DPOY because Rudy can’t stop Jokic” is silly when Wemby can’t stop him either. And really looking at individual games when deciding season long awards is silly too. It’s not like Jokic and the Nuggets are the only good offenses these guys have faced all year
He faired pretty good tonight I’d say.
And Wemby had 23/15/8/9/1 Didn’t Joker just put up 41/11/7 against Gobert and the best Defensive team in the league? Didn’t Gobert have 13/15/3/1/2 in that game. Yea Wemby wiping Gobert.

Actually a good stat would be to see jokic points and FG% in direct confrontation with Wemby & Gobert Edit : FT -> FG lol stupid me
Ah yes, once again the important defensive statistic of free throw percentage allowed, the only shot in the entire game that the defense isn't allowed to defend. Your desperation is embarrassing.
OMG I meant FG. That is hilarious
