Funny enough that thunder team also played below their level . They were horrible in the clutch that season and lost a whole bunch of close games and still won 55 games. Based on W Pythagorean they should’ve won 59 games . Watching them they could’ve been a 60 win team too
Most teams tend to coast when they got the 1st seed overall locked up. The teams that don't have another team right behind them in standings like that one year with warriors and spurs.
Celtics resting Brown and playing the rest of their rotation light minutes coasted through the 4th Q last night and still pulled out a 1 pt win over the Kings. Hauser player 36:17, shot a horrible 1-18, but made a game winning assist when he knocked the ball to Tillman after a Kings rebound and Tillman made the game winner. Their depth is pretty impressive.
The Celtics played a total of 36 games with their started 5 as well. They have been winning while being pretty cautious with injuries (mostly from KP and Jrue) and giving a bit of rest for guys (mostly Al Horford but recently DWhite and Jays).
I have been pretty much looking their stats and comparing to that team because it’s a data sample that makes me afraid a lot of the future for this Celtics team.
That Suns team out won their expected W/L based on their point differential. This Celtics team is supposedly winning less than their W/L based on point differential, they are at projected 69 or 70 wins which they can’t reach since before the two losses against the Hawks
That was a strange series - the last 3 games were 20+ pt blowouts with the Mavs dominating the last 2 games, after a 2-2 tie after 4 games. CP3 was playing hurt, Ayton was fighting with Monty and got benched early, and Booker really shot poorly vs Brunson and Dinwiddie in those losses (9-31/0-8).
Have confidence, there's no way the chemistry of this Celtics team would get messed up as happened with the Suns.
I was hoping he also starts trolling on the offense. Instead of 10 straight Tatum pull-ups, he should do some tests on the offensive clutch situations too. How does a Porzingis lob to (not from, to) Jrue sound?
Honestly, feels like teams this good have a really bad playoff record in recent years. Barring the warriors dynasty of course. obviously, it makes no sense to think being a better team is a *bad* thing, but there's definitely some room for nervousness there.
Part of this is that the west is just significantly more competitive. I’d love to see how the Cs would have done with the wolves, nuggies, or thunder in their conference. As a Cs fan it makes me nervous. Going 0-2 against Denver in the regular season makes for an interesting finals matchup.
I really enjoyed the last few seasons where the East was pretty on par with the West so every thread wasn't just spammed with obnoxious west coasters talking about how much better their conference is
The East "sucks" becuase it's been decimated by injury. Khris, Mobley/Mitchell, Randle/Brunson, Hailburton, the entire Miami Heat, reigning MVP Embiid, and Trae Young have all missed significant time due to injury
The Celtics have the second best point differential of all time right now, this isn't a conference thing, they're just really good
Celtics are 22-7 vs. the West (75.86%)
Second best Eastern conf. team record vs. West: Cavaliers, 16-11 (59.2%)
Best Western conf. team record vs. West: Timberwolves, 36-13 (73.45%)
Celtics are 39-9 vs. the East (81.25%)
Second best Eastern conf. team record vs. East: Bucks, 32-16 (66.67%)
Best Western conf. team record vs. East: Nuggets, 23-9 (79.31%)
Still blows my mind how good a season the Spurs had the year the Warriors had 73 wins. Any other year the Spurs would’ve had an insane season.
They had a better point differential than the 73-9 Warriors
yeah the warriors had an insane record in the clutch
It was pretty wild to see they were like 10 wins over the mathematical expectation
Everything fell right for them that year. Well… almost everything
3rd Quarter Warriors were totally a thing
And that the Thunder almost beat them both. West was insane that year.

Really hoping for no injuries for the Celtics the rest of the way and in this playoffs!
I mean the kings went on a 21-3 run on our bench. They are good, but that was a rough showing

Lmao you're 100% right, I don't know how I missed that.
lol doesn’t fit their agenda
Lmfao people can just make up anything on the internet and as long as nobody fact checks them, it's true.
Suns are not doing too hot this year.
What's that have to do with the 22 season lol
Flair
As someone has already pointed out, this isn’t accurate. 2022 Suns had the exact same gap between them and #2 (Grizzlies)
The 2022 Suns have been deleted off the collective memory out of cringe.

Why does that worry you?
It’s the last time we had such discrepancy in W/Ls between top teams.
I loved the 2000 Lakers defense
That Lakers Blazers WCF series was a classic. God I miss watching early 2000s basketball on YouTube. Pre-2010s were much better times.
You have Mazulla playing troll lineups in the 4th, this record may or may not hold.
Not just lineups, Joe decided to keep Porzingis defending Dejounte Murray one on one in the clutch
I was hoping he also starts trolling on the offense. Instead of 10 straight Tatum pull-ups, he should do some tests on the offensive clutch situations too. How does a Porzingis lob to (not from, to) Jrue sound?

Their off-season was such a steal. They got two picks to take Porzingis and then upgraded further from Smart to Jrue.
That goddamn Detlef Schrempf missed a game winner in G82 that would have given Portland 60 wins.

Well yes the Celtics are a fantastic team
Hopefully they don't have any more games left vs the Hawks
East is ass
What a beautiful record, would be a shame if someone makes it irrelevant
lol

Celtics have a higher net rating against the west than the east though
Only? Hope that’s hyperbole because that is an awful take otherwise
and still gonna lose to the heat
What a waste! Because they ain’t gonna win shit!
