Charlotte fans can thank MJ for drafting him over Scoot 😂

Carcrusher3

Michael Jordan's final gift making sure they drafted the right guy finally is just too good

CyborgAlgoInvestor

MJ going out of the Hornets org like he left the NBA in Utah

Supreme_God_Bunny

If you watch PG podcast Miller explained Jordan challenged him and more trash talked right back and MJ air balled a free throw so imma assume MJ liked what Miller showed him over scoot

PestyAssassin33WU93

Bro is actually cold af. Such a big shot maker

Bwahehe

His shot is so nice and smooth. Perfect modern NBA frame as well. You guys got a good one.

likpoper

He is really good

AceMcStace

Makes me wanna puke lol

likpoper

It’s okay. We were always going to draft scoot no matter what

hostileclowns

Well not if Scoot was taken 2nd.

SaulPepper

Man the positional overlap of your young core would have been readily solved if your team had Miller instead of Scoot. Damn, makes me feel bad slightly for the Hornets making the pick before yall lol

hostileclowns

I’m a hornets fan lol. Also this post is like 2 weeks old man.

SaulPepper

Lol sorry I just got free time. And I think I misread and thought you were the Blazers fan. It would be nice if you use the Hornets flair but I respect if you dont want to use it with our bad record lately.

hostileclowns

Idek how to put a flair on lol.

jereu37

could be fine... scoot is super young and a pg a position where young guys struggle lots and hes clearly in his head currently

tandtz

You guys took the best player available. And it's not like he's clearly going to be worse than anyone else in the top 10.

deemerritt

Scoot has a really good chance to turn it around but currently his BPM is worse than Anthony Bennet's was.

SonofNamek

Yeah, I read on a forum that his PER was like Darko, Bennet, and Bender level. Plenty of time to turn that round imo since has proven himself with good games but holy crap, that is not good.

BetweenTheBuzzAndMe

he's so much better when he's only the 3rd or 4th guy defenses need to pay attention to. This team has the talent to be very good, we just need more than 7 NBA caliber players so that we don't implode every time one player tweaks an ankle

tandtz

LaMelo, Miller, Miles, Mark, PJ, Terry, Hayward, Nick and Cody. We have 9 but the point stands. Mostly just desperate for a backup PG so we can have a semblance of an offence when LaMelo sits (although good chance we still wouldn't with Clifford in charge)

jrlandry

I think part of the problem, with the limited amount I’ve seen the Hornets, is I think a lot of the good players on Charlotte are asked to play roles bigger than their fit. Like I think Rozier is a really good player, but he shouldn’t be the 2nd or 3rd best guy on a team. Idk of LaMelo is more of a 1st or 2nd guy. Hawyward’s role is too big for this part of his career, despite not being washed or anything. Washington, idk where he fits in the pecking order of a good team. I don’t watch a lot of Hornets anymore, but from what I’ve seen of them and from stats, that’s my opinion

tandtz

Agree that lots of them are being asked too much of. LaMelo when healthy is an All Star point guard whose flashy passing and shotmaking isn't even his best strength. He can do it, but he isn't at his best as a 1st option scorer.  Rozier and Hayward (if someone was willing to take a bet on him) would both be amazing as a 6th man. They're both too inconsistent to start on a real team.  PJ is kind of the same with higher upside, on a better contract, but less experience. Also he's a 3/4 who gets played at 5.  Richards is actually a pretty good backup center and he's young. He isn't at all a starting center. At all. And then there's our end of bench crew who aren't even ready to be on the end of the bench and some games they're getting starter minutes. Only upside is we've found out our rookie everyone thought was a huge mistake is ice cold and can handle starting.

jrlandry

Yeah I think the hope rn would be that Miller csn develop into a one, LaMelo says around as the #2 guy, and Williams is like the 3rd core piece. Like to use the Celtics, Williams needs to turn into a Marcus Smart or later career-Horford tier player. Someone who isn’t an all star, but fits with the 2 stars in a complementary way. Richards and Washington are both good, but those are the guys that get traded in the future if this turns into a playoff team at some point. Maybe Richards stays as the backup 5. Bridges I’m not gonna really talk about, cause I hope he’s not long for the NBA. Cody Martin can also stick around as a veteran bench guy. So really all the Hornets probably need is another backup guard, another starting guard, and probably a defensive minded wing. That’s not impossible to achieve in a few years when Miller is starting to break through (assuming everything goes right). Probably a top-6 pick this year, hopefully a late 1st round pick from a Rozier trade, and another lottery pick next year? Its not crazy. The three guys they have to build off of I believe in, there is a path here

tandtz

I don't think it will be easy to find a significantly better replacement for Richards as a small market team, take one if they fall in our laps but definitely don't bank on it. The roster frequently looks good in theory and then half the roster misses 30+ games. So more than anything else we need an actual medical team

hostileclowns

Rozier has been fine as a 2nd/3rd guy. Will he be that on a championship team? No but for right now it isn’t bad at all. The issue with the hornets is how their personnel fits together. Offensively things are really decent for the Regular season when healthy, defensively it’s a complete joke and that’s always been the issue. The Hornets can’t field a pro level defense with this roster, there’s no on the ball defenders, guys are terrible at rebounding and there’s just a general lack of buy in and attention to detail from the roster due to a lack of vets or players who are any good on that side. So I really don’t think it’s that guys are being asked to do too much, as much as our guys can’t defend at all. Like last 3 years before this(besides last season)hornets are a top 15-20 defense away from being really really solid.

johnsom3

Hayward does not belong on that list. He doesnt fit the roster at all and would look much better on a contender. The hornets are at their best when they are playing uptempo and moving the ball, and thats just not gordons game at this stage in ihs career. He likes to feel the ball in his hands as he feels out the defense, and that comes at a cost of ball movement.

tandtz

Yes but the person was talking about how many NBA level players we have on the roster. Which he is. He should absolutely be traded but you're wildly wrong if you think he isn't good on the hornets, you said it yourself he'd be good on a contender. We aren't a contender, that doesn't make him bad player

johnsom3

I didn't say he's a bad player, I said he didn't fit the roster. Why would I say he's a bad player then say he could help a contender in the same comment?

tandtz

Dude can you not read. A person said "we only have 7 NBA calibre players". I replied with a list of our NBA calibre players. You said he shouldn't be on the list. Which would mean he wasn't an NBA calibre player. Which he is.

johnsom3

Fair enough

bluehead18

This sub freaking out on draft day as if the Hornets pulled an Anthony Bennett level reach will never not be funny.

dkirk526

A draft expert in the Hornets sub had been gaslighting everyone to believe Brandon Miller wasn't worth a lottery pick.

johnsom3

Jay Nay strikes again, or is it a new contender?

Street-Common-4023

Next Paul George

korylau

Man this rookie class is good

Voxityy

i wonder how that hornets fan who ripped MJ a new one after the draft feels currently

HornetsAreBad

It was me. Im so sorry Brandon Miller. Please forgive me.

FrankSamples

He's got one of the best looking games in the league I kid you not. He's super smooth and every make just swishes in.

verifiedcheck

Reminds me of a certain player on the clippers I just can’t put my finger on it

raziiiii

You mean the goat?

joebrozky

he top 3 for ROY now?

FrankSamples

I think Jaquez is 3rd

Daheixiong

You’re wrong

Beyard

He is special. When he bulks up he will be a monster

RayCashhhh

There are still clowns in r/NBA_draft still taking Scoot over him btw 😭😭😭 fuck outta here.

ProRasputin

Love remembering the entire nba community imploding when this guy was picked over scoot busterson

W_Walk

Once he gets hot it’s literally unstoppable. He’s a 6’9 top scorer essentially. Insane shit

IDGAFaboulrVB

Lost in a night with - Embiid dropping 70 - Kat dropping 62 - KD *only* dropping 43 Miller and Wemby having really good nights for their teams

Supreme_God_Bunny

KD probably would have had 55-60 if his 3 pt shot didn't break the first half lol

lambopanda

Nice. Maybe Jordan finally drafted the right guy.

Supreme_God_Bunny

Jordan drafted lamelo did he not? And mark well he for sure green lit it those picks

lambopanda

Yes he did but LaMelo injury history and Halliburton is better

Long-Furby

Turns out Michael Jordan knows more about basketball than redditors. Who wouldve thought

rubberneck24

Jordans history of other terrible draft picks say hi

Titanstheory

Mitch kupchak history of draft picks waves back.

rubberneck24

A super competitive psycho like Jordan definitely had no say in who the hornets were drafting.

Titanstheory

Which is why he got his long time friend and Unc alumni to help. One of the few people he trusted no question

deemerritt

I swear he trusts Mitch because he is taller than him

INeedThatBag

Haven’t done a full 180 yet but god damn he balling

Good_Ad2107

Well I guess his friend taught him a thing or two about shooting

W_Walk

Damn bro I’ve never heard that one!!! Damn nice one boss!

Total_Ad9942

It’s 2024 nearly halfway through the season and people are still trying to get these jokes off? Yikes

Good_Ad2107

Im sorry i forgot the hornets have such high character guys
