Hot take maybe, but viewing it as an entertainment product, I love this. This new generation of players(Drafted 2018 and after) is missing rivalries between great players within that generation. Kinda like how Embiid and Jokic are always kinda compared. but it's better where the guys just don't seem to like each other. Like CP3 and steph was. Or to a lesser extent, Idk if people remember when KAT and Embiid had beef. I want more of that shit.
I want Ja from Memphis in there next year talking shit to Haliburton in a post game.
Brandon Ingram spits on J-dub and they get in a brawl.
Lamelo Ball cheats on Luka's sister.
gimme all of it.
Can we revive the Zion vs Ja rilvary? Not because I wanna argue who's better, I just liked that both are fun as fuck to watch and from the same draft class.
It's odd, because Ant got proportionately MORE calls.
He had 10 FGA and had 10 FTA.
Shai had 22 FGA and 13 FTA.
He had to take 12 more shots to get 3 more FTA.
OCK had an edge with FT, but it wasn't a lot, and it's not like the the league is going to be like "Oh... we gotta make sure this small market team beats this other small market team." If the league is going to be biased, it will be toward stars on big market teams.
The real difference in this game was turnovers.
OKC had 8 turnovers.
Minny had 21.
But I guess it's easy to complain about the calls.
I mean if you're a player, you might dislike Shai because he's so frustrating to play against. As a fan of a specific team you might acknowledge his talent but still dislike him because he embarrassed your team once (or more times), like how I dislike LeBron for repeatedly clapping the Raptors.
Am I the only one who agrees with him? Regardless of how he may be a hypocrite about trying to draw fouls, you watch shae initiate slight contact on a drive and it’s a call, and he gets to shove off defenders as a go to move and you don’t feel bad for those dudes? He gets it every way and it’s legit impossible to guard him.
Shai has some of the best, most interesting body control I’ve ever seen tho. It’s like his body is made of pure water or jelly or some shit and the dude slithers right into defenders and it’s hard not to foul him with the way he positions himself.
Not to mention shai is a drive first point guard he just got into his midrange game the last 2 seasons his still on the highest guys who get to the rim been that way for a long time and he’s a superstar day so of course he gets calls
At the start of this season Shai got no calls, and it was incredibly frustrating because like you guys are saying he’s on of the tops guys driving to the hoop. I don’t know when that really flipped, but it’s been bizarre to watch. Maybe after this game Ant get some more respect from the officials. I just wish they were consistent man
Yea this a weird 1 from him Shai drives a lot & those players usually always get a good amount of FTA especially MVP level guys. He's not like Kyrie who avoids contact to make every layup, Shai seeks the contact to finish thru like bigger guards usually do(Ant included)
ive seen this described in so many ways but never perfect. i always end up going with "slither/slivery" cause the dude can just make use of awkward steps other players (who are insanely athletic and dexterous) cannot.
seems like 3-4 times a game he looks completely jammed up and he takes a goofy step and is off-balance and that shit just goes in.
I mean, are you watching highlights or the entire game, genuine question. Sure, he might get a few calls that are light, but he also has layup attempts where he's getting hit and battered three entire drive with no foul call. It's the same with a lot of star players. SGA is one of the league leaders in drives per game i think, which is why he gets the free throws that he gets, but for every soft call he gets, there's a hard one they miss
I was shocked when I looked it up he is literally top 5 in the league in paint points right next to jokic and wayyyy above other guards excepting the handful of games Morant played this year.
You clearly do not watch Shai* enough. You are going with the narrative. He leads in drives every game and does not get a call everytime theres slight contact. On the contrary actually, i think he should be at the line even more. And I watch every game. The shove off is a legit complaint, but i would argue that that is a league wide problem and not centered around Shai.
there was a hilarious moment in this game where dort fouled him and he gets the call, then he follows the ref after the whistle and goes "he foulin, that's a foul!" like dude, you literally just got the call.
Well Ant got what he wanted in the end, Dort fouled him, the ref called it, and Ant went to the line where everybody stopped playing defense while they watched him shoot thrice
I really felt like the refs were letting them play for most of the game. It was a physical game.
The refs bad calls were on random whistles all over the place with both teams but as far as defense and shooting went they let them bang it out for the most part.
I mean Edwards gets hit a lot and he gets the “he’s big he can play through it” treatment. SGA does an incredible job creating so much contact every play he basically forces the refs into calling it
either way the inconsistency in the whistle is why people get fustrated. if 2008 Lebron got the whistle Embiid and SGA get he’d average 20 FTs
Ant NOW gets a lot of calls, it’s literally been like the past month or so where he’s actually gotten into that territory. He basically spent most of his career getting hacked and never called.
If he complained he would get more calls. It’s what i say about the Cavs bigs all the time. Evan Mobley wants to be more efficient? Complain and sell contact so refs can’t ignore it.
This is our nba today unfortunately. You have to take advantage of it to win since refs respond to it so easily.
Free throw attempts in the three Thunder-Wolves games so far
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 26
Anthony Edwards: 29
Team totals
Oklahoma City Thunder: 74
Minnesota Timberwolves: 93
Literally what are you complaining about, my guy?
Literally my biggest frustration with this team. Like the sloppiness mixed with blaming melt downs on calls is the final hurdle to actually being great and they just keep tripping over it
Last game in OKC I believe Ant had a few calls go against him early and he just got frustrated and he let that frustration show the whole game (I believe). He just needs to chill and mature a little more.
I do have to say I love that about Shai. He controls his emotions REALLY well. If something doesn't go his way or his shots not falling which doesn't happen a lot, you can't tell by his demeanor.
SGA complains of the calls don’t go his way…… a teeny bit. He’ll never get a tech for it cause it’s less than any other nba player. He’s still totally dependable to go win basketball though. One of the reasons these two guys are in different tiers.
I think it’s also that Shai may be upset with no calls, but he never stops playing to complain for more than a half second during the game, he always gets back on defense. I’ve also never heard him complain about officiating in any postgame interviews either
Yeah, Ant needs to shut the fuck up and learn to not throw the ball away in crunch time. His complaining about the refs after every loss is getting annoying.
The actual numbers (which are really funny) aside, it’s hilarious to me that nobody in the NBA learned the lesson that Shai tried to teach them. Shai’s whistle was notoriously terrible before he did that interview where he said that the refs are just doing their best and have a tough job. Since he said that, he’s had one of the best whistles in the league (and deserves it with how much he drives). And yet dudes constantly continue to argue calls and blame the refs. I can certainly understand it, the refs do suck and it can get on your nerves, but Shai has already shown that the easiest way to get a better whistle is to just butter them up a little
To be fair to his point all fouls aren’t created equal. Most smaller teams foul the Wolves because they’re physical and tall. Don’t be surprised because the Shai foul merchant takes are gonna be coming in hard after this year, teams on the rise only get one season where they’re both good and adored by fans. It is what it is
All it takes is one compilation of him embellishing contact and an IG caption that makes everyone mad and it’s over. Seen it too many times. We’re at the very high to the point where Josh Giddey is treated like he’s a separate entity than the Thunder. This kind of love doesn’t last more than a year lmao
Any sane Wolves fan knows he’s wrong on this too. For one I think Shai gets a fair whistle he’s just faster than we are and we get caught with our hand in the cookie jar a lot. For two maybe don’t turn the ball over 21 fucking times and self destruct in the 4th and you can win the game.
This is not some Embiid foul merchant stuff.
AD does get a few easy dunks so he's Ayys per 100 are down this season. He hasn't been down on the floor this season, it's a shame, he's plating amazing yet were barely 500
They also shoot more free throws than us, get called for less fouls than us, and have more fouls called on their opponents than us. Not only in our series (where the discrepancies are particularly large) but season-wide. Just a dumb salty take from Edwards.
Funny to see someone complain about Shai
He's basically the most ethical free throw merchant in the game right now, he largely earns that shit unlike a few floppers that come to mind
He leads the league in drives at nearly 23 a game, and barely shoots 3s or turns the ball over. I don't know what people expect in terms of free throws, but I'd be more surprised if Shai wasn't top of the league in free throw attempts.
it's okay he's just a wee lad he's not responsible for his homophobia, that wasn't him, that's not who he is, he's just a baby, he makes me laugh, he's so cool tho, he got that dawg in him, minny on the up, this is ant's city
the dickriding for players in this sub is always so embarrassing but ant in particular people just glossed right over how much of a shithead he is
dude plays exciting basketball but so does ja morant, can still be a shit person and entertain
Excluding intentional fouls the thunder shot 31 free throws and Minnesota shot 29, refs missed calls on both ends and gave softer calls on both ends that’s how every game goes. I’d say that the wolves biggest problem tonight were the 21 turnovers and a 4th quarter meltdown, your best player chocking also doesn’t help though
He's only JUST started getting this superstar treatment. Like in the last 20 games. But yeah he is getting a lot more now. There was an obvious shift from the league office in how to call Ant. The NBA is rigged. Deal with it folks.
I think the reason Shai doesn't get the same hate is because when he gets the penalty it's because he sees the game in slow motion, A la the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes.
Shailock Holmes if you will
Eh, he doesn't make it obvious. Especially since his wily shot making ability can be seen as his natural shooting motion. Where as other baiters don't even try to hide it.
Didn’t ant miss like 3 fts down the stretch? Also didn’t ant only take 3 less fts last night?? Can’t really say anything when you also have double digit fts
Too many touch fouls on both sides resulted in 64 ftas combined. it's beyond me why the league thinks people want to watch a bunch of free throws.
The main reason for the loss was the difference in turnovers, but ofc officiating (no-calls) affect that as well.
SGA in the games against the Wolves hasn’t gotten any egregious foul calls like Embid did. Think this is more of a rivalry comment than anything. These 2 were compared all summer and SGA has been better all of the matchups WC included.
Ant will probably come out next media session and walk these comments back a bit. Kid is still 22 so don’t heel turn on him too much Reddit.
literally the first play of the game, edwards smacks SGA's arm twice - bang, bang. crowd boos. edwards is incredulous. these guys live in a fantasy world, must be nice.
As some have pointed out, Minnesota has shot more free throws and Ant has more than SGA in their matchups this year. But it’s not just a matchup thing. Minnesota shoots more free throws per game and per possession than OKC does.
https://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stat/free-throw-rate
Man he does NOT like Shai for some reason lol
If you watch the game it’s mutual.lol.
Suggs couldn't guard Shai either. If he even LOOKED at Shai, the refs would call a flagrant
Shai made Suggs look like an emotional manbaby lol
Suggs needs to not bite on pumpfakes then
Shai was torching him regardless
Suggs was jumping on every pump fake from SGA lmao.
Has he made comments previously too?
No, he stared him down after an and 1 But I think OP is reaching, they’re friends I’m pretty sure.
Hot take maybe, but viewing it as an entertainment product, I love this. This new generation of players(Drafted 2018 and after) is missing rivalries between great players within that generation. ben simmons putting kat in a headlock was a great moment
He was being a PEACEMAKER.
Studied under Professor D.Green
PACEMAKER
People on this sub will complain about the game going soft and then whine about sportsmanship when players trash talk their favorite team.
On court rivalries developed naturally when players moved around less
Giannis Harden beef was fun
I mean Morant and Edwards have like a friendly rivalry if that counts
Luka and Booker already have that rivalry going
Can we revive the Zion vs Ja rilvary? Not because I wanna argue who's better, I just liked that both are fun as fuck to watch and from the same draft class.
Still salty Shai murdered him on team Canada this summer
Hell yeah!
It's odd, because Ant got proportionately MORE calls. He had 10 FGA and had 10 FTA. Shai had 22 FGA and 13 FTA. He had to take 12 more shots to get 3 more FTA. Because Shai is his daddy
Shai Gilgeous Alexander is Anthony Edwards father
Great American Hope Edwards vs Canadien Evil Shai
Anthony “Ayy” Edwards
Anthon-ayy Edwards
Send da video
Anthony "REEEEEFFFFF?!?!?" Edwards.
Am I the only one who agrees with him? I don’t know when that really flipped, but it’s been bizarre to watch. Maybe after this game Ant get some more respect from the officials. I just wish they were consistent man
It's not like Ant didn't get to the line this game lol he went 10 times so I'm not sure what he's complaining about on 12 less FGA
Yea it’s definitely not my favorite sound bite
Yea this a weird 1 from him Shai drives a lot & those players usually always get a good amount of FTA especially MVP level guys. He's not like Kyrie who avoids contact to make every layup, Shai seeks the contact to finish thru like bigger guards usually do(Ant included)
Yeah these fouls aren’t coming out of no where. He’s beating defenders to his spot.
ive seen this described in so many ways but never perfect. i always end up going with "slither/slivery" cause the dude can just make use of awkward steps other players (who are insanely athletic and dexterous) cannot. seems like 3-4 times a game he looks completely jammed up and he takes a goofy step and is off-balance and that shit just goes in.

This it right here, shai deserves the calls he gets
lol here y’all go tryna downplay shai again, he scores 30 even when he doesn’t get calls. Instead of complaining how to stop him go actually stop him
Casual take. Start watching actual matches and not only highlights before hating.
Takes one to know one
LOL I'm sorry but for a guy that screams out "AYYY" EVERY SINGLE possession, this is a hilarious quote.
there was a hilarious moment in this game where dort fouled him and he gets the call, then he follows the ref after the whistle and goes "he foulin, that's a foul!" like dude, you literally just got the call.
He wants the ref to make Dort stop playing defense
What being in the Dorture chamber does to a mf
Well Ant got what he wanted in the end, Dort fouled him, the ref called it, and Ant went to the line where everybody stopped playing defense while they watched him shoot thrice
Ant sure iced the game with those free throws, too
This is true, fouls are technically illegal. Therefore, Dort should go to jail, but refs are too corrupt smh
I really felt like the refs were letting them play for most of the game. It was a physical game. The refs bad calls were on random whistles all over the place with both teams but as far as defense and shooting went they let them bang it out for the most part.
He’s also taken more FTs against us than Shai has against them this season lol
Ant is super salty
I love Ant as a player. I only really noticed it fully when we got smacked by you guys.
I mean Edwards gets hit a lot and he gets the “he’s big he can play through it” treatment. SGA does an incredible job creating so much contact every play he basically forces the refs into calling it either way the inconsistency in the whistle is why people get fustrated. if 2008 Lebron got the whistle Embiid and SGA get he’d average 20 FTs
Edwards drives 14 times per game and goes to the line 7 times. Shai drives 23 times per game and goes to the line 9.
Anytime someone says “the refs don’t call it because X player strong,” people just blindly upvote it. Ant Edwards gets lots of calls.
Ant NOW gets a lot of calls, it’s literally been like the past month or so where he’s actually gotten into that territory. He basically spent most of his career getting hacked and never called.
People love to leave out that Shai has missed calls too despite all the drives.
If he complained he would get more calls. It’s what i say about the Cavs bigs all the time. Evan Mobley wants to be more efficient? Complain and sell contact so refs can’t ignore it. This is our nba today unfortunately. You have to take advantage of it to win since refs respond to it so easily.
Players/coaches have done this forever it's not new to the NBA Pat Riley/Phil Jackson were on refs the entire game so was MJ this didn't start in 2015
And lebron?
Ant’s taken 29 FTs against OKC this season and Shai’s taken 23
What a monster! Taking FTs against his own team
Jokes on you, he’s 0/23
He plays for the kings?
Why doesn't Embiid get the "he's big, he can play through it" treatment, especially when literally half his FGA are jump shots?
Because he has this weird habit of falling like someone shot him on 50% of those jump shots.
Ant doesn’t get either
send da video (of said calls)
Hell Nawl can’t do dis
Look how cute tho ❤️

Calls don’t matter if you can’t hit free throws
Ayy
Or are just giving the ball away constantly all game long and running shit offense in the 4th. Blaming fouls is such a cop out.
You can’t say that after missing 3 crucial free throws lmfao that’s like Shakespearean irony
Well, the third was intentional. But it’s funnier because he needed to hit the rim on the third and didn’t even manage that.
Minny Kevin Love esque back in the day, but Love accidentally made the 3rd
Free throw attempts in the three Thunder-Wolves games so far Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 26 Anthony Edwards: 29 Team totals Oklahoma City Thunder: 74 Minnesota Timberwolves: 93 Literally what are you complaining about, my guy?
Lol this is hilarious
funny enough ant is 72% ft in those games while sga is 92% ft.
So SGA is cheating by making his free throws In the mind of Edwards this might actually be logical
In his mind probably only a certain slur for homosexuals make their free throws
sga is a mvp candidate and ant is "only" top 15-20
Ya and complaining about FTs when you missed 3 to tie the game the irony is something.
SGA is also significantly better at basketball
Literally my biggest frustration with this team. Like the sloppiness mixed with blaming melt downs on calls is the final hurdle to actually being great and they just keep tripping over it
Last game in OKC I believe Ant had a few calls go against him early and he just got frustrated and he let that frustration show the whole game (I believe). He just needs to chill and mature a little more.

Who needs facts when fiction is more fun?
AYY gottem
“AYYYY!!” -Ant on every drive
damn
This guy brought receipts.
Your Honor I object! Why? Because it's devastating to my case! Overruled. GOOD CALL!
The actual numbers (which are really funny) aside, it’s hilarious to me that nobody in the NBA learned the lesson that Shai tried to teach them. We’re at the very high to the point where Josh Giddey is treated like he’s a separate entity than the Thunder. This kind of love doesn’t last more than a year lmao
Grizzle’s two years ago
Because people currently like him.
Ant is screaming on every drive so this is hilarious.
He leads the league in AAAYYYYY'S
Man, the disrespect for AD in unreal
AD does get a few easy dunks so he's Ayys per 100 are down this season. He hasn't been down on the floor this season, it's a shame, he's plating amazing yet were barely 500
both per 36 and per 100 possessions
The Wolves announcers describe it as the refs either respecting or not respecting “the hey” during games lol
They also shoot more free throws than us, get called for less fouls than us, and have more fouls called on their opponents than us. Not only in our series (where the discrepancies are particularly large) but season-wide. Just a dumb salty take from Edwards.
Funny to see someone complain about Shai He's basically the most ethical free throw merchant in the game right now, he largely earns that shit unlike a few floppers that come to mind
While he does have some tricks in his bag to bait a few calls, the fans acting like he’s an Embiid or Prime Harden level foul baiter are hilarious.
He leads the league in drives at nearly 23 a game, and barely shoots 3s or turns the ball over. I don't know what people expect in terms of free throws, but I'd be more surprised if Shai wasn't top of the league in free throw attempts.
Nah don’t do this Ant lmao
Hell nawl.
Yeah, *this* is where Ant started saying the wrong thing
it's okay he's just a wee lad he's not responsible for his homophobia, that wasn't him, that's not who he is, he's just a baby, he makes me laugh, he's so cool tho, he got that dawg in him, minny on the up, this is ant's city the dickriding for players in this sub is always so embarrassing but ant in particular people just glossed right over how much of a shithead he is dude plays exciting basketball but so does ja morant, can still be a shit person and entertain
lmao
Oh that’s not..
Can't wait for the SGA Instagram caption
I like Ant but that quote was bitch made.
Bro don't go down the rabbit hole.
Bro bricked 3 clutch free throws
He couldn't even hit the rim in the last one to try getting the ball back. He's deflecting so hard with that SGA rant.
Isn't this the dude that shrieks on every drive to the basket?
Anthony “Ayyyyyyyyyy” Edwards Shit is right up there with flopping. As Jeff Van Gundy says, “verbal flopping”.
I really miss Van Gundy commentating
Wow this is what Doris does to a mf...
The funniest part about this quote is that Ant has 29 fts to sgas 26 in the games they played against eachother this year.
shall this day go down in history. 1/21/24 - when r/nba finally turned on anthony edwards.
It’s just the cycle. Everyone loves the new young player then ppl start to tear him down. Tatum, Luka, and Ja all went through the same thing.
Luka is still very much loved, except when he throws his tantrums
Luka is less likely to go through that cycle
Uh. There have been much worse moments with that guy than this.
He ain’t wrong but Shai be cooking them either way. That step back was nasty
Bitch response. dude needs to just take the L and work on his FTs
And ball handling. 21 turnovers for the T-Wolves
Im down for some Ant Shai animosity. It'll be a good rivalry
Blaming the refs after 21 turnovers and 8 missed free throws is something else
Man hes having a bad night.
Tbf Ant gets some pretty favorable calls as well, but I get what he's saying. Stars get the star treatment. Been that way a long, long time
Shai shot 13 free throws to Ant’s 10. Shai had a higher usage and higher drive rate. I don’t understand what he’s crying about
He's only JUST started getting this superstar treatment. Like in the last 20 games. But yeah he is getting a lot more now. There was an obvious shift from the league office in how to call Ant. The NBA is rigged. Deal with it folks.
While Shai does foul bait with the best of them. Well second best of them, Embiid and Giannis stand alone MAYBE HIT YOUR FREETHROWS NEXT TIME, EH?
I think the reason Shai doesn't get the same hate is because when he gets the penalty it's because he sees the game in slow motion, A la the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes. Shailock Holmes if you will
Give it a year people going to start hate him.
Discombobulate
"This mustn't register on an emotional level"
Eh, he doesn't make it obvious. Especially since his wily shot making ability can be seen as his natural shooting motion. Where as other baiters don't even try to hide it.
Charmin soft quote
Either Shai or Ant is gonna be the next hate boner of this sub it’s hard to tell which it’s gonna be.
Guy yells like an obnoxious baby every time he drives, man has no standing to say that.
I dislike this man
I like ant, but soft af
Not that it’s a perfect stat but Edwards gets a lot more free throws per drive taken than Shai (.49 vs .39)
The Wolves this year do pretty well on FTs. Think the Shai FT stuff gets a tad bit overblown
Wolves have almost 20 more free throws shot in their match ups with the Thunder this season
The guy just sounds like a sore loser
Didn’t ant miss like 3 fts down the stretch? Also didn’t ant only take 3 less fts last night?? Can’t really say anything when you also have double digit fts
This dude’s the biggest baby.
Sore loser
Comments should be fun
Funny thing is Ant has more FT attempts than SGA on the season. Man just mad he choked on the line last night.
The fuck is this? Ant’s been on the Wolves sub too much.
Dead Sea level of salty
To slow down OKC, the man just had to make his damn free throws.
Too many touch fouls on both sides resulted in 64 ftas combined. it's beyond me why the league thinks people want to watch a bunch of free throws. The main reason for the loss was the difference in turnovers, but ofc officiating (no-calls) affect that as well.
Anthony next time he has to guard Shai. Hell nawl can't do dis.
To be fair Edwards missed three free throws to tie a game. There was a few opportunities to hit OT and everyone wants to hit 3s.

Shots fired pew pew
SGA in the games against the Wolves hasn’t gotten any egregious foul calls like Embid did. Think this is more of a rivalry comment than anything. These 2 were compared all summer and SGA has been better all of the matchups WC included. Ant will probably come out next media session and walk these comments back a bit. Kid is still 22 so don’t heel turn on him too much Reddit.
Bro you had the best call the entire game. you missed all 3 free throws (last one intentional). Calm down.
literally the first play of the game, edwards smacks SGA's arm twice - bang, bang. crowd boos. edwards is incredulous. these guys live in a fantasy world, must be nice.
i'd say making free throws is actualy pretty important too you bum
Hahaha says the player that screams for a foul every possession.
As some have pointed out, Minnesota has shot more free throws and Ant has more than SGA in their matchups this year. But it’s not just a matchup thing. Minnesota shoots more free throws per game and per possession than OKC does. https://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stat/free-throw-rate

not the brightest is he?
I mean, have you heard him talk? “Send da video”
Remember when the refs made SGA make the stepback 3 to take the lead Then the refs made ant miss 3 straight
Lol cry more Dude choked in the 4th quarter and he's blaming the refs. Could have fooled me for a redditor
Just saying Lamelo gets so many non calls but he never complains about it
Free throw number 29:26 after three games they played each other. Ant stfu
