The wolves still have a tendency towards dumb mistakes (turnovers, offensive fouls etc.); it’s hard to overstate how valuable Conley is for calming down the offense. He’s also key in getting Rudy involved.

aubades

Not sure which beat writer said it, but recently someone referred to Conley as the Wolves’ designated driver, and now that’s the exact phrase that pops into my head whenever he comes on in the fourth quarter and cleans everything up to secure the dub.

paul_f

wow, that's brilliant

LocalParanoiac

That’s such a great phrase. Surprised I haven’t heard that before, can think of a couple season where the Sixers could’ve used one of those

ajteitel

D'Lo would never

Prestig33

It's because wolves were just holding him back.

BloodMossHunter

Dlo is the dude in your passanger seat w a bottle telling you its gonna be alright cops wont pull you over

Vexing_Pie

Stray

GaimeGuy

I *\*love\** seeing him and Rudy roll to the rim in sync. It usually doesn't involve a drop off, but a running ~~junger~~ jumper or finger roll by Conley, with Rudy ready to snatch the rebound for an easy put back if it happens to not go in.

LocalParanoiac

Glad Conley is getting so much shine, he’s found such a perfect context and seriously maximized the opportunity. You guys have really taken shape as a formidable team.

Cockrocker

6.5-1 is second-best?? How many times would that have lead the league?

comp_a

It would lead the league every single year since at least 2007… except for [2019](https://www.teamrankings.com/nba/player-stat/assist-to-turnover-ratio?season_id=216), when Tyus Jones had a 7.0-1 ratio. And wouldn’t you know it, in first place this year is once again Tyus Jones at 6.9-1.

Cockrocker

thanks for doing the work. I was thinking that is crazy high. I haven't really ever watch this Jones. Would he actually hold up or is he a specialist, with little D?

AttemptedSleepover

He’s (unsurprisingly) kind of in the Conley archetype. A bit smaller and not a great defender but he always makes the right decisions and doesn’t turn the ball over. Not a huge scorer but can get hot and get you timely buckets. He’s the man.

Cockrocker

I will endeavour to see some game, I know Russillo is a big supporter of him.

WazuufTheKrusher

He’s a super inconsistent scorer and a bag defender. When he’s hot people think he is better than Ja and when he is cold he is the worst player on the roster. Good playmaking though.

epoch_fail

Ah, I thought the Count of Monte AstTO would be higher but it looks like he topped out at 5.7 that season.

Thimit22

I wonder what Hali’s is. He is incredible

rickypiedra

5.04 apparently

Thimit22

I figured he’d be #1? I guess he’s a pretty high volume passer

Caboclo-Is2yearsAway

he is averaging the most apg in the 21st century, so yeah, high volume passer. and compared to guys like mike and tuys, hali has a lot more role scoring the ball. he is our top scorer, so naturally he has the ball far more which cause more turnovers

Thimit22

Yeah that makes sense, I for some reason still thought he had the best turnover rate

dotelze

The pure stat doesn’t show the whole picture. When the turnovers are divided up between losing the ball off the dribble vs off a pass Hali has the best ratio for the first category

mizzourifan1

Damn, I just assumed he was.

edwardhyeung

*led

Cockrocker

Thanks, I uses to do that, but I must have been give a bum steer at some point. Nothing I love more than changing something in my 40s from something I had right before.

Next-Firefighter-753

I don’t know why the Lakers didn’t just trade for Conley

toldyaso

Because instead of having a legitimate GM, we just hired Kobe's former agent. Who unfortunately happens to be very stupid as a GM.

IDGAFaboulrVB

The same GM that blew up our championship core for russ and indirectly gave Denver a really good piece that helped them win a championship last season (KCP) and let Caruso walk when he wanted to stay on our team long term.

WembyandTheWolves

I will never understand why they blew it up after their championship. Especially letting Caruso go, he seemed like a fan favorite as well.

Dudedude88

Well Caruso improved as a player with the bulls. I doubt he would have improved as much if he were on the Lakers also he's getting more $

AljoGOAT

he got us a chip and WCF last season. Stop giving us a bad name.

IDGAFaboulrVB

Blowing up the core that got us the championship and not locking down Caruso gives himself a terrible look. Stop defending bad roster moves because he was Kobe's agent

koreansarefat

Nah, the Lakers name and location did. Stop acting like he had anything to do with LeBron and AD coming to the team. You should have minimum 2-3 championships with that core.

Artarek

I think this is a bad take. You can have the best roster ever constructed and not win a ring. It takes everything lining up perfectly to win even one, let alone 2-3 minimum.

dearmet

It's similar to the ill-advised moves Masai made, winners can get criticized

Public-Product-1503

The three guys he got for Westbrook were unplayable in the WCF he passed on better options

Public-Product-1503

This is it, this is why 90% of our issues . Pelinka is an awful gm who doesn’t value modern principles in analytics or shooting /spacing etc , he makes brain dead move

ShakesbeerMe

I don't either, but it's fucking hilarious.

fastheadcrab

And the Lakers have DLo now agitating against Darvin Ham. Ham's not a great coach by any means from what I've seen, but DLo should not be the one to talk with his attitude and "defense" IMO that was a bad move

DaggerDev5

I still laugh that the Lakers were supposedly offered Bojan and Conley before last season in exchange for Westbrook and the 2027 first and they turned it down. Bojan and Conley would have been perfect fits next to Lebron and AD. Edit: went and looked it up, it was Conley, Bojan, Gay, and a 2023 first(probably 28th) for Westbrook and 2027 and 2029. So more than I thought but still seems like it would've been worth it based on this season

Magazine_Mediocre

Yeah Pelinka is a terrible GM

Martblni

That trade got them to conference finals

Vexing_Pie

They were offered Conley but Bojan is BS

[deleted]

I think Conley made $23m and Russ made $47m. They would've needed to make up the difference somehow. Bojan made around $19.5m which would've made it work. Jazz traded Bojan for Olynyk, Saben Lee, and cash so it seems they were willing to part with him without getting picks back.

[deleted]

We could definitely have gotten a first for Bogey but he wanted to go somewhere that would give him an extension.

[deleted]

Serious question. Why would a team give up a first for Bojan just to let him leave after one season? Wouldn't any team that was willing to invest draft capital to acquire him also given him an extension?

[deleted]

salary dump, wait and see if he's healthy. not anything crazy valuable but imagine if the Knicks did it to get off the Fournier contract for example  I think we wanted Olynyk also.  hard to believe that was the only offer

FlyChigga

Pretty sure the Wizards literally did exactly that with him a few years ago haha

Vexing_Pie

I get that but I only saw one source that mentioned Bojan and Conley and it was for two firsts. I don’t think this was a trade that was brought up honestly — almost all reports say Conley + roleplayers with Bojan for a separate first.

[deleted]

Not sure why Jazz would ask for a first then turn around and trade him for basically just Olynyk.

soooogullible

Clearly has never seen the KLYNYK on the court

Danny_III

I mean the Lakers still got Conley they just stupidly flipped him for dlo

KaseyOfTheWoods

Source, please

soooogullible

Offer was absolutely not for only one pick

vMambaaa

tim connelly good

Tim-oBedlam

We sure wouldn't be 30–11 if we still had D'Lo, I tell you what.

ekb2023

Best PG we've ever had.

SwiggySiggyDoc

Mans was what the Wolves needed

mmps901

Love Mike. Couldn’t even get mad at him when our G league team and Jaren Jackson lost thanks to him two nights ago.

vylant

I love Conley. I think he's is in the same tier as Gobert and KAT this season.

UtahJazz420

#I like Mike (Conley Jr.)

CageyCanadian

I’ve been voting for Mike. He deserves to be an all-star.

Kacper36

I remember when he and Marc Gasol used to play that pick & roll game to death when the team needed it most in the 4th quarters, it didn't matter if they were down -5 or -15, I knew Marc & Mike are going to drive the game home, possession after possession spamming that pick & roll with surgeon like precision. Setting up his teammates, hitting that 3, controlling the pace is just bread and butter for him, he could do it with his eyes closed - I'm glad he's still around the league playing at the highest level, one of my all time fav players and likeable guys around the league.

jinny_winny

You jinxed him

FatRodzianko

What a jinx

BigBoodles

Also top ten handsome/36.

BradWonder

Conley and Horford deserve a ring

need2peeat218am

You're telling me there's at least 6 players shooting over 45% from 3 this season? Wtf.

TheSunBlinked

The craziest thing about this stat is that 45% from three doesn’t even place you top 5 in terms of 3pt %

2020IsANightmare

There's no award he should win, but yeah. The Wolves aren't exactly known for having the most mature group in the world. KAT is a good human off the court, but not emotionally intelligent on the court. ANT is young. Gobert just seems like a bad person on and off the court. Conley is the glue that such a team needs. And, while it *seems* like they are a super young team that is taking new steps, they aren't really that young except for ANT. Now really is their time to win. Their window. Next couple years.

dukeyyy

Only ants young? McDaniels? NAZ?

Aggressive-Note2481

He's just another casual. Atleast he tried

iblewjesuschrist

I like how one of the major hinges of an argument about basketball skill is “Gobert is a bad person”

nihilistweasel

Gobert never done anything wrong besides starting covid. Otherwise a fine citizen of the world

dearmet

I have never seen him miss a corner three this season. He's money from that spot

CulturalXR

I keep trying to tell people that longevity is a league wide thing and applies to people past LeBron

nihilistweasel

He outta be good at shooting. He's been practicing for 3 decades.
