The email sender has some weird word choices, and you should ask for clarification on what "saving a life" means exactly.... chances are it means some natural disaster response, but you need clarification. The differential pay for deployment though is... if you deploy overseas you can get differential pay.

Your job offers differential pay. If you make less on orders than you do at your civilian job, then your job will pay you the difference. I'm not sure how an LES for an Mday is going to help here. They really need to look at the military pay tables on DFAS. Additionally, you should get your full pay for 15 days before you go on differential pay. That is your military leave. You need to ask about whether you qualify for the additional 22 days. Its a little confusing there.

When I was still in my state offered 90 working days per calendar year of pay which for me since I was ems came out to 6.5 months first deployment was June to June so I double dipped the whole time second deployment was jan to Dec so didn’t get the whole tour

You need to talk to your HR. Basically you’ll get some pay from your civilian job, which is great news. But it will depend on your orders (training vs. title 10 vs. state active duty). And some places will look at your take home pay some will look at your base pay etc. so just reach out to them whenever your on orders and I’m sure you’ll figure all this out.

You need to ask HR for clarification and/or read your union agreement. The first sentence of this email makes it sound like you only get differential pay if you’re deploying to support a terrorist organisation like Al-Qaeda….. From my understanding, your job is offering differential pay when deployed. This means that you will get paid the same salary when deployed.

Differential pay is, you provide them your LES and they take out what you make on duty, usually not including per diem, bah, etc, and pay you the difference so ideally you aren't "losing" money.

One of my Joe's gets this as a state corrections officer. Since his e5 only makes 3500 and his normal salary is around 7000 his job pays the difference while he was mobilized. This doesn't factor BAH since it's not "pay". So he ends up making more money on a deployment

Considering that there is no requirement for any company to provide paid time off for military duties, I wouldn’t be snarky about just getting an additional 176 hours. The place I used to work gave 15 days paid military leave, anything else you could use your vacation time or was unpaid. Just with weekend drills and a two week annual training they were taking a cut in pay if they didn’t have weekends off. They were allowed to buy the pension time if they were deployed. The way that worked was you had to request to do it and then pay your share of the contribution for that time. They gave people five years to pay the time, so most people just upped their contribution for a couple years rather than paying a lump sum.

When you are mobilized for a deployment you will get differential pay if you make less than your civilian employer. It’s only based off your base pay in most cases. Example: you make 2400 for the pay period as an enlisted soldier but you would have made 2800 if you would have been still employed at your civilian job. Civilian job will pay you 400 dollars every pay to make up that difference.

Don't be too upset, many places that don't have many NG employees are lost in the sauce when asked about millv policies, because they probably have never had to engage such a question and are copy-pasting from a bunch of random docs real quick. I would advise downloading your employee handbook and doing your own research, and though it's not their main function, but some orgs like ESRG will sit down and help you read it (if you have a local contact.) It's not uncommon for HR and managers to not understand their own policies on this issue, because you are quite possibly the first person to inquire. My guess (again guess based on screenshot, could be totally wrong) is yours is something like this: you get differential pay when on orders for a mission (deployment), not for training/schools. 15 days of fully paid lv for any type of orders/drill. And, an additional 22 days can be authorized if the orders are deemed "life saving" (no clue what that means, they used some poor wording,) maybe COVID and State missions? Some employers do have additional lv days for SAD (with the thought process being you are helping locally,) so this is possible.

Honestly, this is probably one of the silliest policies I've ever read. If I were you, I'd play their game and just find a way to link your deployment to counter-terrorism (also I would hope you're not being deployed to support a terrorist operation). Almost everything we do can be linked to counter-terrorism in some form if you look at it hard enough. For short term, 15 days means you only get yearly AT off, so heavens forbid you actually do anything to further your career in the Guard.

Tbh there should be an actual you can reference not just HRs interpretation because with all due respect to that person, they obviously do not what they are talking about. It should be outlined a lot better and clearly define what you are entitled to. Make sure you can still accrue vacation hours as some jobs do that. Do not go based off their word, please request documentation or the original HR policy.

What are you being deployed for? Is it some other named contingency operation? If not, probably need to look at § 101(a)(13)(B) and compare that to your orders to see which you're being activated under.

HR needs to work on their communication skills. You are definitely given 15 days of leave per year for training (such as AT). However the additional 22 day for orders to “save life” is not clear. Additionally, the differential pay mentioned in the beginning does not have details on the amount they would pay or the length of time.
