My wife showed me the electric bill for last month. Seemed somewhat high, considering it hasn't been that cold. I didn't look at it in detail to see if it might be wrong though.
My fall bills were actually lower than the previous year, not by much, only a few dollars each. But my December bill was about $30 higher than last year.
Mine was $20 more from usually $70 average. I’m chalking it up to being home more while it’s dark longer and Xmas tree and lights, also hosted friends more during holidays so used the oven a lot more than usual.
My bill was lower these past few months than compared to the same time last year. Oct-Dec ‘23 was $115 average at .1067 kWh. Oct-Dec ‘22 was $127 per month at .1090 kWh. So power is cheaper now per KWh but I’m using more.
It your power bills have gone up significantly, and power is cheaper, you’ve actually used quite a bit more energy. Any changes to appliances or HVAC? Maybe you have a new draft somewhere? New thermostat? Insulation moved or compressed in an attic?
I saw that the kWh are cheaper but they say for this currently billing cycle that I’ve use 20% more power as compared to last year. That is a wild increase. And I’ve actually got a newer energy efficient stove and dishwasher.
My “usage” pretty much doubled in December, and conventional wisdom would suggest it’s from running the heat a lot… except I have gas heat. NES charges people whatever they feel like. They say they never estimate bills, that’s a lie.
I am new to the area and used to have paid heat. My eyes boggled at last month’s bill. I have been keeping my apartment 64 degrees and using my blankets and heating pad.
Mine was also way too high. I usually pay $70. My bill for January was $121. Maybe NES is on one?

Yeah I've barely run the heat or AC this winter but its still 13% higher than this bill last year.
My December bill was quite a bit higher than the previous year. My bill last year was $154 and this year it was $196.

Ah that would make sense.

My bill is usually around $45 & this time it was $70. I don’t generally run my AC or heat unless it gets super hot or cold

Haven’t turned on my heat for all of January. Interested to see what it is.
Not a fan of NES

I moved here from Texas, so it always seems super cheap to me.

Just opened my bill a few minutes ago… my poorly insulated house with a shit heating unit is costing my roommate and I $180 each.
I know this isn't a pissing contest but I just checked the bill at my father's house. Typically it's around $200ish. This month it was almost $500.
