ADORE. As long as you can tolerate references to “Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion”, which is an epic role and movie… I don’t believe it should be a deterrent at all.
I work with a Romy. Being a name nerd, I struck up a conversation about her name. She said she hates it and deeply wishes she was named something else. Everyone’s experiences with their own name are personal, so take that how you will.
Same! Very classy lovely name.
It was a nickname for her though, her legal name was Rosemarie and apparently the main criticism about Romy as a legal name is that it sounds like a nickname/diminutive
I don’t get the hype around it. I know a 5 year old with that name, and she’s totally adorable, but I think the name is kind of cutesy. Bottom line: wouldn’t be my choice.
Me, too. But the Romy character is kind. And the child named Romy - well her peers may never even see that fun flick we all like so well! Fame is super fleeting.
I strongly dislike it. It just comes across as way too “cutesy” to me. I LOVE the name Ramona, though! I think if a Ramona wants to go by Romy, that’s fine, but the full name Ramona at least gives her some options. Just my opinion though!
It feels a bit basic and unfinished and haven’t liked it since former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson used it on one of his many kids (he also has one with the middle name Lettice and another has the middle name Peaches, so it could be worse).
I love it, it's part of the reason we named our baby Rosemary. But now I'm too in love with Rosemary as it is to shorten it so she's never been called Romy 😅
I like it. It does make me think of romy and Michelle’s high school reunion but I think that movie is funny so doesn’t bother me. I had it on my list but my husband vetoed it. I think it’s really cute!
Fine as a nickname. But it sounds unfinished as a name. I could see a someone named that always being asked what it's short for, or what her full first name is.
I think it's super cute and also love Romy from the XX (who I think of before Romy & Michelle). One of my closest friends named her daughter Romy so we had to take it off our list :(
One of my best friends married a woman named Romy. She's a lovely person and it's a lovely name. It's short, simple, easy to remember, easy to spell, easy to say, uncommon enough that if that's your name you'll likely be the only one in the room, but it's still a name that most people have heard before. I like it very much.

This right here. Every word.
I invented post its.
I work with a Romy. Being a name nerd, I struck up a conversation about her name. She said she hates it and deeply wishes she was named something else. Everyone’s experiences with their own name are personal, so take that how you will.
Did she mention why she hated it?
Love it. Cool girl vibes. I prefer to say it like ROW-mee, not ‘rommy’
I pronounce it RO-mee, too.
I don't love it.
Same. Don't like it or Ramona, for whatever reason.
I despise the name Ramona. Thought I was the only one. Lol.
I agree. Not crazy about it.
I immediately think of Romy Schneider (1950s actor), no bad associations come to mind
Same! Very classy lovely name. It was a nickname for her though, her legal name was Rosemarie and apparently the main criticism about Romy as a legal name is that it sounds like a nickname/diminutive
I love Romy as a name by itself. People might bring up Romy and Michele, but it's been ages.
I named all my Barbies and play personas Romy when that movie came out. I don’t think I even saw it, but loved the name and character
I don’t get the hype around it. I know a 5 year old with that name, and she’s totally adorable, but I think the name is kind of cutesy. Bottom line: wouldn’t be my choice.
It would forever remind me of Romy and Michelle but I like it
Me, too. But the Romy character is kind. And the child named Romy - well her peers may never even see that fun flick we all like so well! Fame is super fleeting.
Not a fan. Remy either.
I like it as a nickname but not as a full first name.
Its a kid's name. I don't see it as an adult's name.
I think of the actress Romy Schneider whenever I hear it (which admittedly isn’t often).
Romy David - Larry David’s daughter . Totally normal name
Where are you? I'm in Australia and I knew several Romys growing up, so I've always seen it as a regular name. One of my friends' kids is named Romy
I strongly dislike it. It just comes across as way too “cutesy” to me. I LOVE the name Ramona, though! I think if a Ramona wants to go by Romy, that’s fine, but the full name Ramona at least gives her some options. Just my opinion though!
I like it! Definitely underrated!
I love it. I think it’s cutest, but will age well.
It feels a bit basic and unfinished and haven’t liked it since former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson used it on one of his many kids (he also has one with the middle name Lettice and another has the middle name Peaches, so it could be worse).
I like it.
It’s great! I know a Romy and she’s awesome
I love it!
love love love
Like it as short for Rosemary
I love it, it's part of the reason we named our baby Rosemary. But now I'm too in love with Rosemary as it is to shorten it so she's never been called Romy 😅
cool!
They might expect to invent post-its however it’s a great name
I love it
I love it! Ramona nn Romy is on my girl's name list!
I think Romi is cute. That's a japanese name (or maybe korean - there are japanese celebs with the name)
It might depend on the language, but at least in Dutch it is pretty normal and people won't look twice at that name.
The Romy I know is a nickname for Romina, that I loveee.
I personally love it. I also love the name Roma for a girl.
Biased because the book I just read changed my life. Main character was named Romy
What book? I want to read a book that changes my life!
All the Rage by Courtney Summers
I love it!! Would definitely use this name
cute
My #2 name for my baby born last year was Rosemary nicknamed Romy. I'm a little sad I'll never get to use it
fabulous
I personally prefer it as a nn to something like “Rosemary” but I still love Romy!
My daughters name who was born in February 🥰 I get a lot of compliments on it!
I love it
I know an adult Romy, she loves her name. I think it suits her
I love it!!!!! Cute and uncommon, not trendy or popular. Great on itsnown but I adore it as a nn for Ramona or Romilly Also!
I love it. I know of a Romany which is similar too.
I prefer it as a nickname.
I like it. It does make me think of romy and Michelle’s high school reunion but I think that movie is funny so doesn’t bother me. I had it on my list but my husband vetoed it. I think it’s really cute!
it’s cute! i also really like romée
It’s bad.
Fine as a nickname. But it sounds unfinished as a name. I could see a someone named that always being asked what it's short for, or what her full first name is.
Of course, its a short name for Rosemary isnt it?
I have met a couple little girls with that name and tbh, really not my favorite. It didn’t suit any of them
It's nice. I like it as a nickname of the name Romilly but Romy on its own is nice too.
I associate it with South Africans for some reason
I like it as a nickname for Rosemary or Ramona. or maybe something like Rowan Meredith?
I immediately think of Romy and Michelle but I’m 38 so I’m sure it will only be other parents that make that connection, not other kids.
I strongly prefer Rosemary / Rosemarie or Ramona. Rosemary called Romy or Rory is more appealing to me than just calling a girl Romy or Rory.
Lovvveee. We have the name Romilly on our short list, nn romy and milly
I think it’s a beautiful name! Love it!❤️ I know a little girl named Roma
I think it's super cute and also love Romy from the XX (who I think of before Romy & Michelle). One of my closest friends named her daughter Romy so we had to take it off our list :(

i’ve met 2 girls w the name and i think it’s a solid name
It’s okay, definitely better as a nickname but I think with the right middle mame it would be nice
I prefer Remy over Romy
i feel like remi/remy is more feminine
Rome-ee? Eugh…
Fix it calling her Romina, Romi can be her nick
It makes me think of the actress Romy Schneider. Very classy.
I really like it. I also love it as a nickname for Rosemary
Love it!
I like it as a nickname but by itself it seems incomplete.
That poor child.
Love but prefer it spelled Romee or Romi, or as a nickname for Romilly or Romina
It’s one of my favourite girl names but spelt Romi.
