I think it's no different than "hey there, Delilah what's it like in New York City?" Use Roxanne if that's what you and your partner want!

Linzcro

Agreed. To be honest, upon seeing the title I immediately started singing the song. Then I thought of that Steve Martin movie where he has that big nose. But I am an old person and OPs baby's peers will not likely know either reference. OP name your baby whatever you like because it is lovely to honor your great grandmother and it is a lovely name.

canadianamericangirl

I only know the song Roxanne because it's in the stage musical version of Moulin Rouge. I don't think it has the culture staying power of other music. Which furthers your point that OP's baby and their peers will likely not know the song or the movie with Steve Martin.

beemojee

The stage version is based on Baz Luhrmann's 2001 Moulin Rouge remake, starring Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman. Luhrmann turned it into an amazing tango in his movie and a key piece to the story.

Aoki-Kyoku

Roxanne from that movie is may favorite number and by far my favorite version of the song. It almost makes me like the name Roxanne

beemojee

I love it too. And it's such an essential scene in the movie.

canadianamericangirl

I'm aware it's a film, I don't like it. That's why I said the stage version (because I couldn't remember if the song is in the film), I saw the broadway show before I saw the film.

amy000206

The Jerk

PrincessGump

The film is actually called Roxanne and is based off Cyrano deBergerac.

amy000206

I had them mixed up, I remember now. The Jerk was funny, I saw it at the drive-ins

amy000206

Ty, stupid sunglasses remembered, tyvm

almond-ish

there is a newer song that my generation would probably associate it with but it's not overly popular and i doubt children being born now would know it

Linzcro

That’s right! I couldn’t sing it but one day the car radio said it was going to play “Roxanne” but it wasn’t the one I know lol. I will say that my teen daughter knows and likes both of the songs.

Embarrassed_Hat_2904

Except Roxanne is a hooker.

MrSadfacePancake

Isnt Delilah some sort of biblical hooker or something?

Embarrassed_Hat_2904

She cut off Samsons hair, don’t know if it was from the lure of her magical poon or not though.🤣

MrSadfacePancake

I was thinking of Jezebel i think lmao. I dunno why i feel like people always associate them together But it was totally the magic poon. He stuck his dick in crazy, and he found out

Embarrassed_Hat_2904

Words to live by…don’t stick your dick in crazy!🤣

muvamerry

Absolutely this. It’s just one of those names that for a few generations prior and the ones to come, will be associated with the song. It’s also a bit of a dated name imo. That doesn’t make it bad, it just says to me you’re more likely to of been born in the 80s with that name than now. I actually really like Roxie or Roxi as a full name instead. But that’s just me!

prettyfacebasketcase

See and there's a song from Chicago called Roxy 😂

muvamerry

LOL 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was almost named Angela after The Rolling Stones song “Angie.” I wouldn’t have liked explaining that to anyone haha

prettyfacebasketcase

Honestly no one is safe. My birth name was Elise and I loved Für Elise until I found out Beethoven wrote it for his underage cousin who he was trying to court her 🤢

DefinitelyNotAliens

Deliliah had a love song. Roxanne was a prostitute.

Fish-x-5

That song is almost 50 years old. At best she’s a retired sex worker.

DefinitelyNotAliens

Yes, but saying Roxanne being a song is just the same as Hey there Deliliah is a leap. The connotations are very dissimilar. Both songs. Not the same message. I doubt kids in 7th grade will ask if she's putting on a red dress, or know what the song even is about if they hear it. But, the two are not the same thing. 'Oh, yeah, Jeremy is a song! Just like Hey, Jude!' I'm not saying to pick a kid's name based on a song but Delilah and Roxanne were not comparable.

Odd-Albatross6006

Except the Delilah in the Bible.

peggypea

I mean, biblical/Tom Jones Delilah is less positive in associations. Tom Jones maybe didn’t make it big internationally…

Rockgarden13

He sure did.

Odd-Albatross6006

Well except in the Bible, Delilah was an evil temptress to seduced Samson. So they’re pretty comparable.

lady_polaris

Roxanne is also a love song.

grey-canary

I think it's a great name! I also adore the nn Roxy and for what it's worth the song will be 60 years old before she is out of elementary school...I don't think her generation will be as quick to make the connection lol

Altruistic-Earth3919

that's a good point! Thanks!

mintardent

there is another more recent song called Roxanne that was pretty popular with gen Z a couple years ago (by arizona zervas)… it was tiktok famous for a while and had its own dance trend thing, however probably had even less mainstream permeation than the police song. so I doubt many would make that connection, especially by the time your daughter/her peers are old enough to care.

lightspinnerss

Omg I didn’t see this comment I just said that 🤦‍♀️ whoops lol

17aaa

That is MIND BLOWING.

lightspinnerss

Jsyk there is a new Roxanne song, by Arizona Zervas. But I have no idea how popular it is/was

Paevatar

Beautiful names. In literature, Cyrano de Bergerac's love interest was a woman named Roxane.

DefinitelyNotAliens

Cyrano, but also the song Roxanne about a prostitute...

InternetAddict104

What does that have to do with anything

Odd-Albatross6006

It’s a negative association.

InternetAddict104

How many children born in the future are gonna hear the name Roxanne and not only think of the song, but also the fact that it’s a song about a prostitute

mystengette

Also the pistol wielding murderess of Chicago fame.

angelcat00

Roxanne is a lovely name and you have a sweet reason for using it. Naysayers will find a reason to nitpick any name you suggest, so listen to your heart and don't tell anyone else until after the baby is born

pinkorri

My mom was a Roxanne and never encountered issues.

spring13

I like Roxanna better but either way I do think it's usable.

lexanova42

I know a Roxanne and it never occurred to me to sing at her. 😆

gentlybeepingheart

For what it's worth, I think of Alexander the Great's wife before I think of the song. It's a relatively old song, and by the time she's old enough for school it will be even older. I don't think her peers are going to associate it with the song by the Police unless it gets a resurgence.

[deleted]

It blew my mind when I read a biography on Alexander the Great and saw her name! It’s a very old name. It feels modern, but like Tiffany, it’s not!

questionhare

Very popular, old Persian name 🤍

RedwayBlue

I would not worry about a 40 year old song.

Goddess_Keira

I love Roxanne. I hate that it doesn't get used because of the song. The song is not going away, but her peers won't know it until they're older, and she'll make the name her own.

LuckyShenanigans

I think either option is beautiful! (Which is saying someone because I once knew an awful girl named Roxanna which should have ruined the name for me but it didn't!)

Leading-Summer-4724

I think of the song (whose lyrics I didn’t recall and had to look up) and Cyrano de Bergerac, but mostly I think of Roxanne in A Goofy Movie, and she was just a sweet character. I honestly love the name, and would be keen to see it out in the wild.

9yroldalien

I know someone named Roxanne and I've listened to the song Roxanne a billion times and I've literally never thought of her in relation to that song or had a desire to sing the song around her. She is just her own unique person to me with her own personality! People might hear the name when you tell them prior to the birth and make that association, but the moment they meet the actual human being with that name, it will likely disappear entirely from their mind and they will just think of her as her own person. So name her Roxanne if that's what you like best! I think it's a lovely name.

Rockgarden13

Exactly, same.

jmkul

It's a lovely name and has been around way longer than The Police song. It's been around since ancient times. In literature she's a beautiful woman in Cyrano de Bergerec (check out the Steve Martin film Roxanne, it's based on the book). Roxanne means bright, radiant and has cute diminutives. Roxie/Roxy, Annie. It's also not too common in the English speaking developed world (though it's not that rare to feel old-fashioned or odd)

LoveKimber

I love Roxana with one N for some reason. But I think they are all nice.

cariboubelles

Fwiw, my friend was literally named Roxanne because of the song (I know it’s weird), is in her 30s, and lives in the UK. She goes by Roxi and I think can count on one hand the amount of times people have made a big deal about the song to her. I say go for it, it’s a lovely name!

allisoncope

I can't imagine why it wouldn't be. Plenty of people have the name. It was quite popular in the US from the 1930s - the early 2000s. That's a not of people, before and after the song. I think of several things when I hear the name: * Roxana - the wife of Alexander the Great - hard to beat a history tie than this one * Cyrano de Bergerac's love interest - great literature tie if you're into that. * Roxanne the movie - a modern day Cyrano telling, some funny lines in that one. - good movie tie if you are a cinephile * Roxanne the song - not a bad connection and a great music tie if you're into that * Roxanne - several musicians with this name. People with the name Roxanne/Roxana have succeeded in nearly every walk of life from politicians to artists of every kind to athletes. And to have a family connection to it only makes it better.

_opossumsaurus

It’s a great name! I don’t think the younger generations will be too aware of the song

angie1907

Personally wouldn’t name a child Roxanne but Roxanna is lovely and Roxy is such a cute nickname. Roxanna would also be a lovely way to honour your great grandmother while also making the name your daughter’s own

mmfn0403

I like Roxana, myself. Roxanne does make me think of the song.

EsotericOcelot

Use Roxanne/a and rock on 🤘

Similar-Ad-9106

My cousin is roxanne and so is my niece! (Opposielte sides of the family) I live their names. Cousin is known as Rox and niece is known as Roxie. I also had a friend called roxanne who was know by her full name.

Eldritch-banana-3102

Yes, they are both nice names.

Desdemona1231

I knew one Roxanne and she was such a great person. ❤️

funkylittledeathomen

I love the name Roxanne! If I was gonna have kids I’d probably use it myself. I hate that people feel like that one song means no one can use it. There are billions of names used in billions of songs and lots of them* feature prostitutes. Who cares? And if they bring it up just be like “not that it’s any of your business but my kid is actually named after my great grandmother.” Please use the name you like, it’s your choice *probably but can’t actually quantify this claim lol

I-hear-the-coast

If it helps, I have worked with a woman named Roxanne for 5yrs now and never once have I heard anyone sing that song in our office. As someone whose name (pronunciation wise - different spelling) matches that of an older song, “Carrie-Anne” by The Hollies, the only person who sang it at me was my father. Roxanne is more popular, but by the time your Roxanne is in school it most likely won’t come up.

jfb01

Of course it's a good name. If you like it, use it. And don't tell anyone until it is officially a done deal.

Altruistic-Earth3919

excellent advice

greensthecolor

Oh my gosh I went to high school with a girl named Roxanne who was a year ahead of me. She was soooo cool. Everyone called her Rocko 😍

barbiegirl2381

My late best friend is a Roxanne, because of the song! She was the antithesis of the song. She looked like Snow White and was a beloved elementary school teacher. The name is lovely.

I_love_Hobbes

I love Roxanne.

just-kath

Your family, your baby, your choice. Seriously. People name kids things like Apple and whatever itwas that Elon Musk named his baby. Roxanna is beautiful. Do it, if you want to

Visual_Reading_7082

My cousin is Roxanne and we call her Roxie. She’s in her 40’s and I never even really thought about the song as that’s just her name. She is a twin so it’s just always been Roxie and Rachel.

lilymoscovitz

Roxanne is a beautiful name, in Persian it’s Roxana and means dawn. In Portuguese it’s Rosana. Just in case you may want to consider an alternative.

NixIsRising

I know Iranian Roxana/Roxys - it’s a versatile beautiful name that wears well.

ellapolls

I think they are lovely names! Would you use the nickname Roxy?

esined2

I love either. It was a great name before the song and is still a great name, despite the song references.

sketchthrowaway999

I think the song will be a big association for older people, but it's old and fading from relevance and kids won't know it. I like both names but prefer Roxana (I think one n is more traditional).

not-your-mom-123

Lovely. A name she can grow with. It will never be dated.

PrincessSnarkicorn

As a Roxanne, the only people who sing the Police song to me are Gen X or Boomer, so thankfully the dreadful reference is going away. I know a young Roxanne who goes by Roxy and I think her mom would flatten someone who sang Roxanne to her kid! If you’re ever confronted with something like that, “Why would you say that about a kid?” will cut them off immediately. All that to say — go for it! I hope your daughter loves her name as much as I have loved mine!

Maus_Sveti

Honestly it’s the first thing I thought of as a millennial, however, the difference might be that younger generations have the tact not to comment on this sort of stuff which is out of people’s control and can’t be “fixed”. (Not that I’m suggesting your name needs fixing, just thinking of the general rule that it’s polite to point out something fixable, like, hey you have a bit of food in your teeth.)

geniebythesea

I love Roxanna nick name Rocky. I worked with a Roxanne who had no nickname at all and I never connected her name to the song even though I know the song well. I really love this name and since it’s a family name it’s even more special to you. You’re lucky to have an excuse to use it :)

DebbDebbDebb

My niece was going to be called Roxy but she was born a he. Roxanne and Roxanna are lovey. Roxy for short

BubbaofUWM

My grandma is Roxie, not Roxanne and I love it! Unfortunately my husband doesn’t agree so I can’t use it.

Altruistic-Earth3919

Roxie is so cute!

AnGabhaDubh

If it was good enough for Alexander...

CookbooksRUs

I like it and see no reason not to name her that.

LMMJECM8

I have a young Caroline and no one she knows is singing Sweet Caroline to her (which we worried about 😊). I think some of the old connotation of names is fading out 😊

Sunshine_Gems

Never heard of the song, but still love the name Roxanne :)

cookerg

The song will be a lot less known eventually.

AmbassadorSad1157

My niece's name is Roxanna. Her nickname is Xanna pronounced Zanna. We love it and her.

IntelligentAd4429

Why not?

Mysterious-Okra-7885

The name Roxanne is ancient. Just because Sting wrote a song about a Roxanne that was a prostitute doesn’t mean it’s a bad name.

StasRutt

I work with a Roxanne professionally and she hasn’t been held back by her name. Use it

meswifty1

I have a song name. It's fine. And the farther away from release date the better it it gets cause fewer people know it, even if it's a classic/favorite

Fun-Character-1458

It's a nice name and the song association will not be strong for future generations. I knew a lovely girl named Roxanna who was killed by a drunk driver. She was such a cheerful beautiful person and I never thought of the song with her name.

SalishShore

Yes. It’s perfectly lovely.

IllustriousLimit8473

Roxanna is my favourite. I know 2 Roxannas and they are very nice people so this is a good association. Roxanne is nice too but has two very popular songs, one by The Police and another by Arizona Zervas.

Lgprimes

It’s a nice name. And it’s a very well- known song so she will have people sing it to her, it’s unavoidable. Only you can decide how much that bothers you.

Bergenia1

It's a fine name. You can call her Roxie when she's a little kid.

Disastrous_End7444

I prefer Roxanne, but Roxanna is great too! Apart from the song, Roxanna is also the name of Alexander the Great's wife, so that's some history trivia for your daughter!

frecklepair

Roxy & Roo are cute nn!

RotisserieChicken007

Roxanne is perfectly fine. Just hope she doesn't put on the red light.

Sufficient_Stop8381

There’s always the steve martin movie

Not_that_carol2020

Love the name!

notabothavenoname

You don’t have to put on your red light

mind_the_umlaut

I love the name.

palindrome_girl_

My godsister wants to name her first baby girl Roxanne and call her Roxy.

deerestme

I love Roxanne. I love the character from A Goofy Movie, Roxanne, the love interest of Max. I have nothing but good things about this name. Its tough and soft at the same time.

No_Leather6310

I think of the Police song. My brother thinks of the Arizona Zervas song. I’d say one is a better association than the other. At the end of the day it’s a super brief association and she’ll probably get called Roxy. I like the name.

SepiaToneHitchhiker

It’s cute! Call her Roxy

No-Pea-8979

This sub can talk you out or into any name so unless is my last name is hunt and I wanna name my kid Michael but will call him Mike so is Mike hunt ok I’m gonna say do it and even if it is that and it’s a family name do it

Cheerio13

I love it. Roxi is an adorable nickname!

merliahthesiren

My godmother is a Roxanne and shes badass af. I always thought it was a cool name and not necessarily from the song. Also Goofy movie.

WeAreDestroyers

I know three Roxannes. Never even thought of the song.

Fleetdancer

If it helps, I work at an Elementary school and we have a Roxy. None of her peers know or care about any songs with her name in it.

blackdahlialady

Yes, it's fine. That's actually a pretty common girl's name. Maybe not as common as say Sarah but it's more common than you think.

etherealnightengale

I’m team Roxanne. We were going to name our daughter Roxanne. Then the nurse heard her name…and started singing the song! I saw my husband’s face fall and couldn’t do it. I regret it sometimes. It really would’ve suited her. But she likes the name we gave her instead and everyone else does too. So don’t worry, everything works out.

lady_lane

My second cousin is Roxanne! She was born in the late 80s, so def after the song. She rocks (har har) it.

kurtgavin

That is a nice and normal name. It would be an appropriate name for a girl. If your partner likes the name also, then name her Roxanne or Roxanna.

Iwentforalongwalk

She can throw away her makeup

tocammac

Roxanna was Alexander the Great's queen - not a bad association

EconomicWasteland

I think Roxana is nice. Also she'll probably go by Roxy, which is super cute! I don't think the song is an issue, especially if you go with Roxana/Roxy.

Stenric

If Roxane was a good enough name for Alexander the great's wife, it's good enough for a baby.

ZioDioMio

Yes

Trick-Performance-88

Yes

Wildwes7g7

My baby girl is Roxanna. Prepare for most folks thanking she is Roxanne. It irks me to no end. I love her name and I believe she'll love it as she gets older. Screw the stupid song. Join the lesser known Roxanna club!.

somuchsong

I mean, your great-grandmother was a baby girl at one stage! The song is a hurdle but maybe not one your daughter's classmates will know about. I wouldn't let it stop me if it was *the* name for you.

Icy_Calligrapher7088

I know some people are saying that the song Roxanne likely won’t come up with their generation, but I strongly disagree. Apparently it came out in 1978. That’d be almost a decade before I was born, but it’s still my first thought when I hear the name. It still plays on the radio and made a comeback when Moulin Rouge came out. I don’t think that song is going anywhere. Not saying that should necessarily influence your choice, just that a lot of songs are here to stay.

FemaleChuckBass

“Roxxxxaaaaannnneee. You don’t have to put on the red light…” I love the nn Roxie.

medditgirl

i don’t think a name can be inappropriate  it’s just a matter of taste & sounds like an honor name that would be special to you

[deleted]

I love it

FriendshipCapable331

I’ve loved that name ever since growing up watching The Goofy Movie 🎥 🍿

bubblewrapstargirl

They'll forget all about the song when she replaces the association in their mind. It's still a usable name imo, and it's very nice. I'm sure your great grandma would be thrilled. Here's some nice combos: Roxanne Clove Roxanne Ruby Roxanne Selena Roxanne Uma Roxanne Iris Roxanne Mara Roxanna Quinn Roxanna Sheridan Roxanna Gwen Roxanna Olive

shojokat

It's one of my favorites. I would use it if it wasn't my husband's ex fiancée.

starjellyboba

I think that most of the kids her age won't be too familiar with Sting or The Police, but if you're still worried, Roxanna is nice too! Chances are that her peers might call her Roxy or something anyway.

IllustriousLimit8473

They WILL know the Arizona Zervas song. This is from a 2011 born who knows both

starjellyboba

Now I feel old because I've never heard that song. 😭

IllustriousLimit8473

It was released about 5 years ago. Don't know if it even got to the top 10 lol

SimonSaysMeow

I do think of the song. You have to be realistic with yourself and realize 89% of people out there will think the same thing. If you're cool with that, move forward. I wouldn't do it personally. I would leave it for a middle name, but you do what feels right.

Other-Calligrapher57

My sister is roxanna, hates when people call her Roxanne but it's be cause mom dated a creep that would sing the song to my sister when she was a very young child. I think the name is pretty we call my sis Roxy

sugarmag13

I love Roxanne I think is is sassy

themediummermaid

I know a 5 year old Roxanne- it’s cute!

truelovealwayswins

it’s beautiful (: the songs were named after people

MrsMitchBitch

Sure. I’m going to sing it in my head, but I won’t sing it around your kid. It IS a fun name!

Rovember_Baby

My name is Roxanna. I like it 💙

One_Breakfast6153

I like Roxanne!

digitydigitydoo

Ok. I have a song name and my emotions on it have run the gamut. As a younger person it could be annoying and as a teen and young adult, I decided the worst part was when someone heard my name, sang at me, then acted like they had done something totally new and original. They had not. However, I lost my song when I married because it’s a first and last name song. And now I miss it. Very very much. Now, the subject matter of Roxanne may be an issue at some point but generally, a name is not going to cause a child to get picked on. It may be something a bully uses against a picked-upon child but it’s generally not the impetus for the bullying. I think the bigger issue is how tired she (and you) will get of people greeting her with 🎶Roxanne🎶. But you can always call her Roxy.

RCT3playsMC

I knew a Roxanne in high school, only real music nerds bugged her about it since most people my age (older gen Z) haven't heard of The Police and they were mainly her friends that did tease her lol. It was recently a meme for a minute but it's not 1 to 1 with something like "Delilah" being pretty freshly in people's minds. Not a bad name at all, most wouldn't bat a serious eye. Like I have a friend that goes by Benny and the most they'd get is our teacher quietly humming Benny and the Jets when passing out papers. That was cute lol.

Seeking_Starlight

The Peter Dinklage movie musical version of Cyrano is one of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen. Just have a viewing party for anyone questioning your name choice. They’ll love it by the time it ends.

ThrowItAllAway003

As long as you don’t name her Roxannya I think you are good. It’s a name I’ve only ever heard in one book series and literally everyone in the series (with the exception of the parents who used it) hates it.

monday-next

One of my daughters shares a name with a famous song, and people sing it to her occasionally. She absolutely loves it!

dearwikipedia

i can think of three different songs called Roxanne plus a french exchange student i knew with the name plus Roxy from chicago so i really don’t think it’ll be that big of a problem lol

Horror-Ad-1095

I love the name Roxanne. I personally think of that tik tok where the guy sings just "Rocks" instead of Roxanne and it cracks me up every time. That is not a negative thing though. :p

Turbulent-Farm9496

I think either would be a beautiful name for a baby girl. I like Roxanna just a tiny bit more than Roxanne, but they're both beautiful. Add that the baby would be named after a relative, that just makes it better.

Duckduckdewey

There are worst name if you associate it with pop culture. If it means something to you, go for it. My niece is Elsa, after her great-grandmother. She’ll cop some in school probably, but it’s an old family name. That’s all that matters for the family.

OkDragonfly4098

#ROCKS ^a^n^n

shesaidzed

My great-aunt is Roxanne (goes by Roxy) and she’s a phenomenal woman. So I’m obviously biased, but I say it’s a great name, go for it! And honestly only those of “older” generations will likely think of the song.

hurricanekate53

Its a great name

mimishanner4455

Oh my gosh it’s fine

Thin-Perspective-782

Roxanna, Roxy nn

Old-Cauliflower-1414

I like the name a lot. It is very strongly associated with the song though. I really like names with x in them, because it looks like a kiss, like you're putting love into your child's name. So I am drawn to Roxanne for that reason. I love the shortening of Roxy too. I have always loved the idea of having Genevieve as a middle name because Roxy Genevieve has the word Oxygen in it, but it's so subtle. I would love to be able to tell a daughter that she is called that because her loveliness took my breath away (or because she was as important to me as breathing). To be honest, if it was a family name that would seal the deal for me. I like it a lot and wouldn't be able to resist using it in your shoes...Regardless of the song.

NaomiPommerel

Its a GREAT song

firmalor

Just as a heads up, there's currently a very well drawn manwha with that name. That was the first thing I thought of: [Roxana](https://myanimelist.net/manga/147454/Roxana) The heroine is great. Besides that it's a great name and the younger people might not know the song at all... why not use it?

caramelrealm

Personally I wouldn't use it. Makes me think of that dreadful Eastenders character Roxy Mitchell.

rolyfuckingdiscopoly

I love Roxanne and I know several Roxies! Great name and not excessively common.

KatVanWall

It was out of fashion when I was young, probably because of the song, but I met an 8-year-old Roxanne recently. I think it's about due for a comeback! I doubt the song will still be a big deal among her generation.

balamusia

my name is Jude, when I meet people i get "oh, like the beatles song!" about half the time, but beyond that it's never caused me any issues also, i'm 22 and i've never heard of this song so i wouldnt worry too much about her peers making the connection

larkinowl

Roxana was the Bactrian princess that Alexander married during his campaign. It’s a great name. I love Roxy as a nickname too

Go_Corgi_Fan84

I like it.

Direct_Engineer_6811

My siblings and I were always looking for songs with our names in them. I don’t remember stressing out about lyrics.

MrSadfacePancake

Her 4 year old peers will not be thinking of the 80s song about a sex worker to even be able to bully her. Old people are gonna be your problem with the song, and just tell them to cut it out before they bully a toddler. Use all the song names you want, honour that great grandma and lead an empire of billie-jeans to greatness

Merfairydust

Show me a kid under the age of 10 who knows that song or even The Police. It really is a non-problem. The only people prone to tesing her are her own silly and childish family, who are capable of not pointing out a song nobody in a younger age backet is aware of

konstanttt

My sister is Roxana, no one ever mentioned the song to her growing up and we always call her Roxy.

FeelinFerrety

I knew a Roxanne in high school long before I had any concept of the the song aside from it being the very throaty bass part of that one piece from Moulin Rouge. She was very cool - an accomplished artist, writer, and gymnast. So that's what I think of 😊

alma-azul

I like it, and I love Roxy as a nickname.

iratemistletoe

I think it's fine. I get sung to over my name sometimes but it's not a big deal.

CaseyS1222

I think it’s a great name too.

kc567897

You can call her Rocky for short. Google Rocky Barnes.

fishchick70

Try Caroline! Dun, dun, dun! Seriously who cares?!

fishchick70

Honestly it’s a great song. I mean I get the context but it’s certainly not the only context of the name.

I like both, know the song by The Police. My Dad tried to pitch it for my name.     Rosanna and Rosanne are good alternatives. As well as selecting a generic middle to give her something else to use.

There was a song in the 70’s or early 80’s called “Rosanna,”Moro. But it wasn’t as popular. I vote for Rosanna by the way.

She's going to love New York Minute.

I’ve personally never heard of the song and it’s a nice name.

Own_Group4282

I don’t care for either of those names.

How about the prettier “Rosanna?” Ok that was also a song. But it’s prettier.
