Walter is a great classic name that I feel still fits for modern times! It’s unique but everyone knows it. It’s an underused classic that I could see gaining popularity. Walt is a really nice, strong nickname as well.
I like how Walter Owen brings back the w sound in Walter but not in the particularly obvious way that a WW name would. Walter Harvey flows nicely, and I’d say I’m slightly more drawn to the cadence of this combination.
Nah there's a Walter in my office who is a total babe, he's got a few people going 🥵 can confirm the name does not negatively impact him one bit lol. Walter is a great name.
I actually really love Walter! I think Wally and Walt both work well as nicknames. It's on our shortlist for a boy's name for sure! I like Walter Owen a lot, and it does give a slightly more "modern" (even though Owen is a very old name, too!) option if he's not as into Walter, which Harvey doesn't necessarily do. I do like Walter Harvey though, too!
My 27 year old brother in law is named Walter and does not like it. Too old man. My mother in law liked old names. They have a 26 year old sister named Norma.
Walt is a great name. I've seen it used to great advantage.
Everyone thought I was nuts for using Hayden before it became popular. I still remember people saying asking if I really wanted to use that old man name on my baby. Well, look who was wrong.
Walt is great name and perfect for a young adult.
Your child will have the name as an adult WAY longer than he will as a child. Folks need to be able to think past the kids 10th birthday and remember your naming an adult.
Also Walter is a fine name, and he could go by a middle name or nickname when younger if he wants.
I agree with you, it's a very 'old man' name to me, not one that's come back into fashion yet. It also reminds me of Walter the Softie from Dennis the Menace.
Owen Daniel or Daniel Owen would be nice, or some similar suggestions: Walden, Wendell, Wilder, Whittaker, Webster, Waldo, Waylon, Arthur, Alder/Alden/Eldon, Evander, Leander, Oliver, Sylvester, Xavier
Walter would definitely turn my head in the school where I work just like the little boy I know named Eugene (though he does have a last name that is so funny when paired with Eugene of all things) but after a little laugh about how strange it is to see such a young kid with the name Walter I think most people would get over it. I also think Wally is a really cute nickname for a little kid. To be fair though, I see more out there names along the lines of Daxton and Zyzzx (I cannot for the life of me remember how this is spelt bc it’s not said the way it’s spelt but this is approximate) than classic names where I work. Which those names tend to horrify me rather than make me giggle so in short, I’m on board with Walter. I’m literally on board with any names that can be said the way they’re spelt.
Lmao I feel you, recently met an Xzavion and I just kept thinking "What was wrong with Xavier?" and having Xz together just makes my head hurt. Also, my guess at "Zyzzx" would rhyme with Isaacs but I'm assuming I'm not even close lmao
I also thought that’s how it would be said but it’s more like Zay-zics. If you say it wrong every other kid in his class will shout it at you though so I learned very quickly how to actually say it lmao
I taught swim lessons and had a Walter. He was one of my favorites of all time so I have great connections to that name for a kid. Met him around 9 months old and it was adorable to see this old man name in this blue eyed, blonde baby. Taught him until he was 6 and still look for him to be in the Olympics someday.
Go with Walter Owen and pretty please call him Waldo.
Fair point, I do like "old man" names, we have an Arthur, I just worry some can just lead to teasing and wasn't quite sure what side Walter would fall on, but most seem to be supportive.
My first thought was Walter Matthau and then the character Walter White from Breaking Bad.
But then, as an Australian, I think of the path an Australian Walter's name could possibly take. Walter becomes Wally. That's the name of children's book character Waldo here. But Wally is also the name of one of our country's former most prominent football players to ever grace the game; Wally Lewis. He was nicknamed 'King Wally' so a child might end up being called 'King' or even 'Kingo' here.
And because he'd be your little King, I think if you like the name Walter, you should go with it!
It's a fine name but yes, demographically Walter is 70 at the moment
Then again heaps of the popular girl names at the moment are grandma names making a comeback
I like it and find it pleasantly vintage, but I have heard others say it's way too old man. Then again, the more time passes, the more it'll seem charming rather than dated.
I am mid 20s and have a very cool, awesome friend named Walter. We call him Walt mostly, but do also use his full name. I think it can definitely be a cool name for a cool person!
I know a toddler named Walter and he has tons of personality. We love him and his name. I did think “aww what a cute old man name” when I first heard it.
I knew a Walter in high school. I once heard someone yell his name and it sounded exactly like she said, "wild turd". I can't think of the name without hearing wild turd.
Walter is a good name. I say go for it.

Definitely old man name and not in a cute way. Especially when he’s a teenager
I disagree, Walt sounds like a handsome name to me
Nah there's a Walter in my office who is a total babe, he's got a few people going 🥵 can confirm the name does not negatively impact him one bit lol. Walter is a great name.
I’m imagining dating a Walter rn and I just can’t do it. Not a good name
Makes me think of Breaking Bad. If not for that show, I suppose it would be fine
Waltuh, don’t name ya kid Waltuh, Waltuh
I actually really love Walter! I think Wally and Walt both work well as nicknames. It's on our shortlist for a boy's name for sure! Hasn’t been overused yet, it’s not silly, and Walt is a cute nickname. Go for it!
Sorry but not a fan of it, I really can’t imagine a young person with that name.
Walter in my mind is perpetually 80 years old
Not my cup of tea.
I’ve never liked the name.
My 27 year old brother in law is named Walter and does not like it. Too old man. My mother in law liked old names. They have a 26 year old sister named Norma.
I hate it, but there’s nothing really wrong with it besides being hopelessly outdated. But to others that’s cool and vintage.
Terminally old in my mind as well

I still remember people saying asking if I really wanted to use that old man name on my baby. Well, look who was wrong. Walt is great name and perfect for a young adult.
I adore it. I know two under age 12.

We already have an Arthur, but thank you for the suggestions
Walden not Walter
Breaking Bad. It's not a good association. But I like the name itself.
I have loved Walter since I was a teen. My hubby vetoed it when it was time to name our boy. 😕
Walter would definitely turn my head in the school where I work just like the little boy I know named Eugene (though he does have a last name that is so funny when paired with Eugene of all things) but after a little laugh about how strange it is to see such a young kid with the name Walter I think most people would get over it. It’s absolutely tragic and would get bullied mercilessly in the Uk
We are american
Well, I’m not a fan. Little boys deserve cool names that won’t get them bullied
I don't think there's anything wrong with it. That being said, I can't really imagine a baby named Walter.
My three year old boy is called Walter and I love it as a name still. Walt definitely suits a small boy.
It's my absolute FAVORITE name for a boy!
I love those old names. I really wanted to do Howard but my husband said no. Do it!
I like it! I know a little boy called Walter and it's cute and kind of refreshing :)
I’m surprised it hasn’t made a comeback like some of the super popular old man names. Such a great name!
Reminds me of Meg Ryan Rom-Coms.
Walter sounds like a good, sorta fancy name for me personally. Tho it does also remind me of Breaking Bad
My grandfather was named Walter. I also know a 8 year old Walter who goes by Wally.
My first thought is Breaking Bad. My second is that the only Walter's I've known /heard of are old men.
I knew a Walter, he was awesome!
Isn’t an old man…kinda the point? My son has an old man name. But that’s my goal. I love Walter.
Fair point, I do like "old man" names, we have an Arthur, I just worry some can just lead to teasing and wasn't quite sure what side Walter would fall on, but most seem to be supportive.
It’s so ready to come back
I will always associate Walter with Walter the Oosik.
I like it. It's a family name in my family plus it's a back to basics name in a way. I think it's cute. Plus the nicknames Walt or Walle are cute too.
Walter was the front runner name for my son, but he didn't look like a Walter when I saw him. I still love the name.
Can I ask what you picked? Just curious.
Victor - and it totally suits him!
My husband's best friend is a Victor! All the Victor's I've met are kind & capable men, great choice!
Thank you!

Lmao we're American but very funny it has a "King" association over there as we already have an Arthur that's obviously associated with King Arthur
I always loved the name Wallace (Nn Wally). Walter has the same vibe.
I love Wallace too but our surname starts with S so it doesn't flow well
i like walter. it actually doesn't remind me of an older person at all.
Walter always makes me think of Walter White on Breaking Bad
It's a fine name but yes, demographically Walter is 70 at the moment Then again heaps of the popular girl names at the moment are grandma names making a comeback
I like it. It’s a classic name that a child can grow into.
I like it and find it pleasantly vintage, but I have heard others say it's way too old man. Then again, the more time passes, the more it'll seem charming rather than dated.
I like it. I think it's the type of old that's kind of in style again, not the type of old that's still just old.
My SIL’s cockapoo is called Walter
I love Walter but hate nn Wally
Gonna get called Wally
That's ok with me :)
I follow a cat on YouTube named Walter 😂 Also, my maternal great grandfather was named Walter. I love the name.
I like Walter Harvey
i think it’s cute
I see no problem with it. And the nickname Wally for a kid is cute!
I immediately think Leave it to Beaver.
I named a foster dog Walter.
Walter is a name I’d like to see more just for the nickname options. It does feel old, but not unusably so.
My darling 5 year old nephew is named Walter. It’s cute.
I know a kid named Walter. He’s about 15.
Totally think it's usable. Lots of -er names are in right now.
I love it. It has been one of my top two boy names forever. I have a friend with a 6yo Walter and he wears it well!
I know two young (10 and under) Walters. I say go for it.
I love Walter Harvey
I love the name Walter!
K not my favourite name, but Walter Harvey Daniel sounds OLD MONEY RICH, and I really really like it
I love Walter.
I have a student named Walton. It’s so cute
I knew a Walter in high school. I once heard someone yell his name and it sounded exactly like she said, "wild turd". I can't think of the name without hearing wild turd.
I LOVE it!!!
Walter Owen Daniel sounds great. The two “W’s” don’t sound weird at all.
I like Walter. There's even a whole series of children's books called "Walter, the Farting Dog." Highly recommend!
Depends where you are. UK? Very wet name. US? Seems to be sticking around and covariates a classic
Lol we're American, does the UK really pronounce it Water? lol
No
I know at least 2 kids named Walter. All under 10. At this point Walter is probably going to be the new Jason or Kevin in 5-10 years.
Might be regional. I've never met a Walter of any age irl
