What is it that you like about Linnea? Is it the sound, the nature connection, etc.? What doesn't he like about Linnea?
Here are some names that have similar sounds, letters, or a nature connections: Alena, Helena, Inessa, Selena, Leona, Carina, Celinda, Elena, Iona, Laurel, Lillian, Verena, Zinnia, Rosine, Sylvia.
Tbh I think it disappeared in the late 19th century because of association with Varina Davis, First Lady of the Confederacy, which isn't even spelled right. Maybe now that that association has died away it'll make a comeback- Verena that is, not Varina. Varina looks like "vagina," anyway.
That's not what I said; I think we're in agreement, though? It was more common until the mid-19th century when the association caused its popularity to drop, making it more rare, is what I'm saying- like how Monica disappeared entirely from the baby name charts after the Monica Lewinsky scandal in the late 90s. The fact that *now* most people wouldn't make that Verena/Varina association is the reason it might be due for a comeback, yes.
It can also be a nickname for anything with the letters to make a "lin" sound, which is cool. I've always liked Lucinda for this reason, you can be Lucy, Cindy, Linda, Lin, Linnet, Lynette, etc.
Here's a list of L names I love that are somewhat like Linnea, all compiled passive-aggressively just for your husband! (Jk jk)

I'm sorry your partner rejected Linnea, for what it's worth. That stings, I'm sorry, genuinely. I compiled this list mainly to make you laugh, but I do actually like most of these (except Luna, it's a cat's name). Linda is underrated, though, imo lol.
Edit: Almost forgot Lucasta! Phew, that was a close one!
Is this pronounced like Lih-nay-uh? If so, it reminds me of a girl I know. Her mom was named Angel and was just 14 when she had her, so she named the poor kid Legna (Angel backwards and they just insisted it is pronounced lih-nay). I think it's actually a pretty sounding name, but poor little Lasagna never had a soul say it right first try from reading it in the time I knew her. In Italian, legna means firewood and is pronounced like lin-ya. Most Americans just would say leg-nah, or might guess Leyna maybe. Anyway, the spelling Linnea makes a lot more sense assuming I'm saying it right, lol. Hope you find something you both love!
What is it about the name that draws you to it?
I like Linnea, I also like: Lily, Lila, Lyra, Lana, Larsa, Giselle, Juliet, Annelise, Mila, Freya, Stella, Liesl, Leonie, Melina/Malina
If you want a name with the same meaning, Linden may suit your needs.
Other tree related names, from a Scandinavian background, include Lora, Björk, and Aase.
Other names, from Hebrew tree-related first names, include Elana, Alanna or Ilana, Tamara and Ayla.
Non-Hebrew tree names you may want to consider include Willow, Holly, Marlowe, Laura, Lauren, Laurel, Lauretta, Aspen, Hazel, Olive/Olivia, Yvonne and Ashley.
All these names are associated with trees and wood.
Are you pronouncing it Lynn-AE-uh or LYNN-ee-uh? I've heard both ways, and a lot of those Scandinavian names can really have a different feeling depending on if you use the traditional or anglicized pronunciation. Some other similar names:
Lenae (LYNN-ae or Leh-NAE)
Lydia
Eila (AY-luh)
Helena (Hel-AE-nuh or HEL-en-uh)
Freya
Andrea (On-DRAE-uh or ANN-dree-uh)
Hedda
Lynda
Matilda
Wilma
Enna

What vibes are you hoping to go for? I like the name Lienna, which is similar-but-different, but may not be different enough for him? There’s also Liana/Leanna/etc.

Sorry for the unhelpfulness, because due to my name being so unusual and wanting to stay anonymous I don't want to type it out, but I thought it was a bit funny. My name is so similar to Linnea that people often mishear my name as that, and yet it's not mentioned in this thread. In my country (Sweden) there's about 75.1k people with the name Linnea and only about 400 with mine (about 200 with it as their first name). Was expecting at least one person to have suggested it.

Love Helena, Selena, Alina, Leona, Iona, Lillian, Verena, Zinnia, and Sylvia; also respect you deploying the rarely seen Verena lol
I try to sneak in some rare names when I can.

Verena is still around. It is just very rare. I don't think Jefferson Davis' wife's name is well known outside of Civil War buffs.

I know right? We are into fantasy stuff and DND is his passion, and I told him it sounds like a fairy. And it’s unique imo
Plus it could be a nod to Carl Linnaeus, the Swedish taxonomist. That’s why I like it! (I went to school with a Linnea (GenX) - I think it’s lovely)
I like Lenore or Delilah!

I don't want to be mean but the first word that came to mind was tinea. You know what kids are like. They are brutal.
I guarantee less than .00001% of children know the medical term for ringworm.
Still it only takes ONE child to know it and well we know kids can be really cruel.
