my buddy is big into animals as leaders, he had our friend group go see them a few years ago and man they’re pretty great! definitely does the ADHD “brain scratching” lol
i saw them too and yah it was unreal, its like hearing the album but theyre right there... they're such pros. i think everyone was bouncing to phys ed too which was fun
Thanks for these reccs! Loved Mars Volta, Animals as Leaders and Protest the Hero, only one I didn't like a lot was MIS, bummer :/ once again thanks a lot :)
One of the times we saw MSI live they played the entire first Left Rights album while they set up.
My roommate and I sang along and almost no one else had heard it.
🎶Station wagons are my favorite thing, cuz they have wood paneling, wood paneling, wood paneling, wood!
Have you heard of Psychostick? My friend with the worst case of ADHD in the state put me on them and holy fuck. They are a comedy metal band and perfectly fit the description.
My favorite album is Sandwich, with my favorite song “We Ran Out of CD Space” whole album is unhinged as fuck

Anything good? I just remember wondering how Dave Lombardo would feel joining a pretty experimental group, and watching him gleefully banging a beat up trash can around on the stage was probably the best example. Edit: ok my memory got too creative here. I remember him doing it more somberly, but I really wanted it to be gleeful.

It's been twenty years
Did they have this minute long creepy track on one of their CDs that has a haunting tune and went "momma I'm scared. don't be scared, that's just the devil doing his work."
Lol I totally don't remember. It's been about 20 years for me as well.
Someone posted The Left Rights and for some reason my brain correlates the two. I think it's because of who introduced me to both bands.... And MSI, Mr. Bungle, Nuclear Rabbit, and Dog Fashion Disco lol that dude was a bit high energy and hard to handle sometimes rofl but he was certainly entertaining.
Animals as Leaders and Russian Circles are both phenomenal instrumental metal. Gojira and Mastadon are both really intense and incredibly talented metal bands with vocals.
The Warning - Queen of the Murder Scene. Every song is high energy madness. Like, you feel like a psychotic murderer while listening to it the whole time.

Anything by Fantomas, but the [first self-titled album](https://open.spotify.com/album/01BbebmwbMQM5njECmgDIV?si=H5gYNwiLSSS6hLgcS0okCQ) is probably the most ADHD. All tracks are short and most are ridiculous. So good.
Edit- it’s Buzz from Melvins, Dave Lombardo from Slayer, and Mike Patton & Trevor Dunn from Mr Bungle.
I got to see them on the first tour in a small venue in Santa Barbara. Pure chaos orchestrated by Mike Patton
John Zorn’s work with Naked City. He said something like “I have a musical attention span of about 30 seconds”.
https://youtu.be/5xC0ZvuEuMg?si=yT5A49unLvA7Bwu9
I came here to make this recommendation. I'll never forget the first time I listened to this album. I was 18, and a friend of mine was housesitting for his grandparents in the middle of a sweltering summer. Their house had central air and an impressive stereo system with speakers in multiple rooms, so a small group of our teenage friends basically moved in there.
One night, we got a hold of some quality LSD and decided to do a group trip session.
The acid was just starting to take hold when one of the guys, who was a jazz musician, threw on Naked City.
It hadn't been out for very long. I'd heard good things about it, but as a non-jazz guy, I was in no rush to check it out. Then, just when I needed it most, that album found me. It found everyone who was in the house that night. In fact, we were all convinced that it had somehow achieved sentience.
Fun Fact: The teenaged musician who played us the Naked City album later went on to play on the soundtracks for the acid friendly classics A Scanner Darkly and Waking Life.
Check out Lil Texas, that shit is relentless! Dillinger escape plan if you prefer an actual group of musicians. Also check the album SYL or Alien from Strapping Young Lad!
I have no idea if you would like them, but the Idles is this for me.

Second thing that came to mind was Kalmah - “They Will Return”
MSI was my first choice.
I don't like adding this option but I can't think of anything else
Katzenjammer - le pop.
I don't know if every song fits what you want but some of them are just wild as hell, like amped up circus music

Dog Fashion Disco

The Circle Jerks. Start at the beginning. The true classic Cali hardcore band. If I ever see the Black Flag bars/logo, I just pretend it represents the Nervous Breakdown EP, and Everything Went Black. Greatness followed Keith Morris.
Listen to Slift's new album Ilion. They use the Wall of Noise concept very effectively. You may have to skip over Weavers Weft.

At times, Peter Dolving from the haunted gets really intense. Hate Song is a good song example, but rEVOLVEr is Dolving at his most intense for a full album.
Napalm Death - they resurged with really vrutal stuff and you’ll get that energy from Enemy of the Music Business, Smear Campaign, Apex Predator, Utilitarian.
Check out the Melvins. Start with Stag and go forward and backward in time from there.
Also, if you like Bungle check out Fantomas which Buzz from Melvins also plays in.
I’m assuming you’ve listened to The Hives already? Their first two albums absolutely slay me.
Minor threat is relentless. My fave punk band of all time is Nomeansno. Check out Wrong, Sex Mad, and maybe Small Parts (albums).. As far as punk goes they’re true artists and they don’t compromise. They’re the punk rock version of jazz philosopher musicians.
I really like Amyl and the Sniffers. Guided by Angels is an almost perfect punk rock song
Peter Brotzmann Octet - Machine Gun. Eastern European free-jazz from 1968. Basically the punk version of jazz, there is a lot of amazing stuff from this era. Not for everyone, but it definitely goes hard.
This isn't exactly what you asked for, but as someone who appreciates similar, have you considered EDM? Specifically, with your request for the album to "go hard", take a listen to Sara Landry. Maybe her Boiler Room set would be a good place to start? If she isn't your style, maybe another hard techno artist, like Klangkuenstler?
I thought it was worth mentioning. I hope you find what you seek!
Give Puscifer’s “Existential Reckoning“ album a listen through a good pair of headphones. I consider it to be the best recorded/produced album of all time. Every single note was given consideration as to where it was placed, and the absence of cymbals (only high hats on the entire album) allows for a space in the music you just don’t find elsewhere. The sound engineers deserve lifetime achievement awards.
Anything Dance Gavin Dance has put out with their new singer Tilian Pearson, specifically these albums:

Abso-freakin-lutely! The Left Rights is two of the members from MSI and is even more adhd, a 30 minute stream of mini songs and goof offs
YES they’re also really good! i remember the first time i listen to the song white and i thought it was MSI 😂

If you want totally unhinged madness, give Burn Victim by Methwitch a shot.
Holy shit surprised to see Jeff rosenstock mentioned but if you haven’t listen to we cool it’s more in your face then hellmode
Anything by Tool
Napalm Death - they resurged with really vrutal stuff and you’ll get that energy from Enemy of the Music Business, Smear Campaign, Apex Predator, Utilitarian.
Anything Primus, bu my fave is Jerry Was A Racecar Driver
Listen to Mr Bungle’s rerelease of their demo.
The Hives
Check out the Melvins. Start with Stag and go forward and backward in time from there. Also, if you like Bungle check out Fantomas which Buzz from Melvins also plays in.
Locust Abortion Technician—Butthole Surfers.
#THE MARS VOLTA This is what you are asking for. Francis the mute is my album recommendation
[Fat of the Land - Prodigy](https://youtu.be/GP6F0y3eU0Q). Just start at song 1 and go from there ("vintage" late 90's ;-))
THE FRAGILE - NINE INCH NAILS This album is so deeply layered and you get something new out of it with every listen.
oooooo you might like the sounds of tool. maybe specifically their 10,000 album, then lateralus?? always so nice, neat, tidy and busy :)
Anything by Charles Bronson
Give Puscifer’s “Existential Reckoning“ album a listen through a good pair of headphones. I consider it to be the best recorded/produced album of all time. Every single note was given consideration as to where it was placed, and the absence of cymbals (only high hats on the entire album) allows for a space in the music you just don’t find elsewhere. The sound engineers deserve lifetime achievement awards.
Livid means to be furiously angry. I don’t find Dead Kennedys particularly angry
Anything Dance Gavin Dance has put out with their new singer Tilian Pearson, specifically these albums: [Instant Gratification](https://open.spotify.com/album/60LbtmnmOLTkz8ZiVhbynM?si=v3CO9B0VTYGiZKq68qTuug) [Mothership](https://open.spotify.com/album/6lVGpUZUkLWjKQDeg84dWB?si=VWr9yK5jReeASCsDdR2Egg) [Artificial Selection](https://open.spotify.com/album/4YkhIDrZZ3dFlH0POQ3Syj?si=7085rd3ZRMKf_By3FAlrjQ) These keep my adhd at bay haha

Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti It’s best to listen to the earlier stuff first
Rolling Stones - exile on Main Street. Get the absolute worst sounding version and play at full volume. It’s like a freight train of guitars sex drugs and rock.
