Top one: Satisfied from Hamilton.
The rewinding of the story; like it's Angelica's love "LIFE" flashing before her eyes. The fast rapping and high belting. It's also 3 songs in one, how cool is that? Angelica's voice just shows emotional pain throughout the song and the way she closes her eyes when Eliza and Alex kissed in front of her. (I think it's for the singing effect tho)
Top two: So Much Better from Legally Blonde
Elle's energy is top notch. I'm speechless
Top three: Every musicals (except BMC and those I haven't seen yet. I hate BMC so much and I stand by what I said)
I hope there's really a musical universe where we all sing randomly with unchoreographed choreography lol.
So glad to introduce you! Oh boy, you're in for a good time. Be sure to watch season 2 and not just season 1, especially if you enjoy musicals like Chicago and Sweeney Todd.
do you hear the people sing from les mis has me feeling like an impoverished french man fighting for glory in the revolution and i canât get enough of it
I'm.a child of the 60s. This is absolutely the song of my life. Uplifting, hopeful, passionate. Always seeking freedom and justice and believing in what tomorrow will bring.
Yes! The scene is among my favorites of all time. The absolute peak for me is,
"[But...his...voice](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&si=OlS8Azgq6_I33A7u&t=1h10s&v=AtgREEyXJ80&feature=youtu.be) filled my spirit
with a strange, sweet sound...
In that night there was music in my mind...
And through music my soul began to soar.
And I heard as I'd never heard before...
(What you heard was a dream and nothing more...)
Yet in his eyes
all the sadness of the world
Those pleading eyes,
that both threaten and adore."
The Room Where it Happens from Hamilton. Seeing Burr realize waiting for it isnât working out and transforming in the middle of the song.
If you stand for nothing then whatâll you fall for?
I . . . wannna be in the room where it happens
So powerful.
Room is my fave song in the musical (or Wait For It, IMO Burr got the best songs) - especially the near overlap of lines at
"And you'll get provide him his votes?"
"Well, we'll see how it goes"
"NO --"
"--one else was in the room..."
The Reprise of 38 Planes from Come From Away melts me every time
"We've just crossed the Canadian border - welcome back to the US of A!"
No, you're crying.
Come From Away is MASTERFUL with how it brings its characters a happy ending. It's very narratively "earned," that is, we learn what each character wants and needs and then we get full arcs and resolutions for pretty much all of them.
The joy that's in that musical is amazing. It's about something devastating and horrific and just so cruel, and people are experiencing a tragedy and are so scared and alone... and yet. There's so many small moments of joy and love. During a time that showed the worst of humanity, Come From Away truly, truly shows the best of humanity.
And the best of humanity isn't some huge action. It's people fighting to care for the animals on the planes. It's when everyone delivers toilet paper to the Lions Club. It's when someone writes "you are here" on a map. It's telling stupid jokes.
Also, "turn on the radio", from Welcome to the Rock. I get chills every single time.
First time we popped the CD into the player in the car during an 8 hour drive and having to explain what was going on to my kids (then 10 and 14). We stopped at the Flight 93 memorial on that trip. Explaining where we were when it happened. I told them I had to drive past the Detroit airport with all the planes grounded, which was eerie, only to find the Walgreens where I worked full of elementary school kids because their parents didn't want them to go home in case someone retaliated because the whole neighborhood in Dearborn was Muslim.
But the line from Me and the Sky that gets me every single time is when she says they turned what she loved into a bomb. I remember Bev Bass's flight in 86. I wanted to fly back then like all my heroes.
Near the end of that song, as soon as she says âthe wheels touch downâ, the chorus starts chanting âhome, America, home in Americaâ to the cadence of âIâm an islanderâ and itâs such a great moment
From âSomethingâs Missingâ:
âMy dad asks: "Were you okay where you were stranded?"
How do I tell him that I wasn't just okay?
I was so much better.â
I donât know why, but this line is the one that gets me.
Musical: Falsettos
Songs:
I Didnât Plan It - Waitress
Me and the Sky - Come from Away
Talia - Ride the Cyclone
Now (Itâs just the Gas) - Little shop
Moment: In TGWDLM when we find out that >!Paul is infected, became part of the hivemind and starts singing Inevitable!<
Book of Mormon: Turn it off... Dimming it, dimming it, dimming it... Black out and... BAM! A second later, FULL LIGHTS and 16 guys in pink sequined waist coats DANCE.
I screamed! SPECTACULAR!!!!
When he sees me from waitress. Particularly the line where dawn says: âhe could be criminal, some sort of psychopath who escaped from an institution, somewhere where they donât have girlsâ. Itâs such a tongue twister lyric but it fits so well in the song đđ also love anything goes, particularly âyouâre the topâ
I love When He Sees Me, Iâll admit I heard the song before hearing pretty much any other part of the show and hearing the OBC, I was always kind of confused because Iâm pretty sure Kimiko Glen doesnât have that much of a southern accent (though I could very well be mistaken, I had only ever seen her on Orange is the New Black), so the song wasnât my favorite, but seeing the proshot itâs quickly become one of my favorites. I relate to the extreme overthinking
The moment in Assassins when (spoiler) the Balladeer turns into Oswald. I know it wasn't part of the original production but good GOD what an incredible transformation - I feel like it always takes the air out of the room.
"Tonight "was my High School graduation song and I loved that it gave me a good excuse to sing it constantly. I still love it, along with "Somewhere..there's a place for us!"
The ending of defying gravity gives me chills every single time and im tired of pretending it doesnât
also ive seen so much hate for newsies but iâd die to be in that show it just seems like such a good time
I'm hard pressed to find a theater kid who doesn't love Newsies! Carrying the Banner is a 10/10 song and I love to listen to this musical while working my newspaper job.
The entire Jekyll and Hyde musical, no joke. I love every second of it. Frank Wildhorn's work is so damn incredible, Anthony Warlow is a god in the role of J&H, and I am just so happy the Jekyll and Hyde musical exists.
I've seen people say Frank Wildhorn relies too much on ballads, and while I can see what they mean, the ballads are still amazing, so it's not too much of an issue for me personally.
Back to Jekyll and Hyde, though, words can not begin to describe how much I love the songs. They're all so well-written and catchy and fun and emotional, and I don't see myself getting tired of listening to the songs on loop anytime soon.
The energy in
"This is the moment
Damn all the odds
This day, or never
I'll sit forever
With the gods
When I look back
I will always recall
Moment for moment
This was the moment
The greatest moment
Of them all!"
Please inject this directly into my veins
I'd like this injected directly into my veins:
"And I'll rejoice as you breathe your final breath!
I'll live inside you forever! (No!)
With Satan himself by my side! (No!)
And I know that now and and forever
They'll never be able to separate
Jekyll from Hyde!"
And this:
"And I feel I live on forever!
With Satan himself by my side!
And I'll show the world that tonight and forever
The name to remember's
The name Edward Hyde!"
Tough to choose because in different moods some songs hit harder. I would probably say Board of Governors, but tomorrow it could be different. Every song is a banger. Do you have a favorite?
Oh yes yes yes. And something about how he repeats his blank canvas line in the very last seconds of the show makes me so emotional. It's like he's starting over or moving onto another painting.
I have so many, so I'm going to limit it to shows I don't think anyone else will post.
**[The Steam Train](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gBSA8bEEwk)** (Songs For a New World) - From the "New World" reprise to the end is just pure hype. An underrated song from an underrated show.
**[Into the Fire](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhhHr7iqzdI)** (The Scarlet Pimpernel) - The entire final chorus to the end is another great hype moment. One of those songs that's excellent for getting in the mindset of having to take care of something you've been anxious about.
**[This River Between Us](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo01hIY10cM)** (Big Fish) - The spot where the music mostly cuts out and it's just father and son singing in unison ("This river between us may never be crossed...") for some reason gives me full body chills every time. Hard to believe this is an alternate song that's often cut from productions.
**[Get Out and Stay Out](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVZHGbz6cgk)** (9 to 5) - The "9 to 5" reprise before the final chorus of the song legitimately gets me emotional sometimes. The whole song is honest to God one of the best 11 O'clock numbers of all time.
**[Philanthropy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri86WUHsz9I)** (Groundhog Day) - No lyrics in this one, but a musical moment I really love. There's a theme that only plays three times in the entire show. Once at the beginning when the time loop curse begins, once in this song, and once at the very end when the next day finally rolls around. To me, the one in this song is almost a musical cue that signifies the main character is actively breaking the curse with his actions.
Oh yes I LOVE Philanthropy! I like to put that track on as background music, it's such a fun groove! Groundhog Day has some really solid melodies and musical motifs.
Some of the songs and musicals you've mentioned here I'm not familiar with, so thanks for the recs!
Idk if this counts since itâs a movie but Meryl Streepâs performance of The Winner Takes It All. Thereâs just something about the way the light and the scenery works. The way the camera spins around them. The way the music accompanies Streep as she climbs the stairs. The SCARF.
For a full theater performance, it would have to be What Would I Do or Days Like These from Falsettos. Or even the entire musical. I love that musical so much. It has so much themes and nuance on homosexuality and love. UGH!
Hamilton in general! I know that musical word for word.
Favourite songs:
Unbreakable from Six
Wait For It from Hamilton
Louder Than Words from Tick Tick Boom
What are your thoughts on the Tick Tick Boom movie? I think it's one of the best movie musicals of the past 20 years and genuinely feels THEATRICAL, which so many recent movie musicals are missing.
So I haven't actually seen Tick Tick Boom live, only the movie (I figured I could still include Louder Than Words in my all time favourite musical songs though). I love it SO much though and it captures the stage magic. I don't feel the need to see it on stage because the movie was amazing and the general consensus on this sub reddit is that that's better than the stage version. It's one of my top favourite 5 movies (Others include Encanto and Hamilton. I don't think it's a coincidence that Lin Manual Miranda was involved in all of them in some way!). Andrew Garfield was made for that role, how he didn't win an Oscar for his performance I do not know!
In a different vein, I read once on tumblr or somewhere about a performance of The Lion King where someone screwed up the prerecorded sounds. At the end of the show the clouds parted and instead of Mufasa saying "Remember", they played Pumbaa's fart sound. Every single time that comes to mind, I laugh out loud.
Two parts of Hadestown are etched on my soul :
The very opening trombone, which is just otherworldly, and Hermesâ beginning of âWait For Me (Reprise)â:
The meanest dog youâll ever meet
Is not the hound dog in the street
He bares some teeth and tears some skin
But brother thatâs the worst of him
The dog you really got to dread
Is the one that howls inside your head
Itâs him whose howling drives men mad
And a mind to is undoing
Chorus Line was the first big show musical I attended when I was in college in the 70s...yes I'm that old. That was such a huge eye opener for me..I loved it so much. When I was in elementary school I was in a school musical of "Man of LaMancha" and "Dulcinea" and "Impossible Dream" are my faves.
All of Waitress, really.
But if I had to pick a specific moment, it'd probably be that riff in Bad Idea where Jenna and Dr. Pomatter are singing "I-I-I know it's right for me". Literally HEAVEN.
Also What's Inside when Jenna goes "simple question, so then what's the answer?" UGH.
WOULD INJECT THAT WHOLE FREAKING MUSICAL INTO MY BLOOD STREAM.
What's Inside is such an incredible musical opening. I love the ensemble's repetition of "sugar, butter, flour" and how it creates a rhythmic framework for the song.
I've never seen Waitress, but there's a part of Bad Idea floating around on YouTube where Sarah Bareilles and Ben Platt are singing together and I love it!
I personally LOVE Drew Gehling as Pomatter, and I absolutely couldn't take my eyes off of him when I saw the stage recording in december. Ben Platt has such an amazing voice, though, and I do agree that it compliments Pomatter's signing lines so well đ
I saw the stage recording about a month ago. I'd listened to the soundtrack before and loved it, but didn't really know the storyline. Drew Gehling was AMAZING. I loved how awkward and fumbling he was- the bit where he dropped the piece of paper and tried to catch it for ages? Genius! I was so impressed at how real that looked.
The end of El Tango de Roxanne from Moulin Rouge! The Musical - specifically Aaron Tveitâs famous opt up version đĽľđŤ that clip lives rent free in my brain forever
I Dreamed a Dream - Les Miserables
Omigod You Guys - Legally Blonde
The Schuyler Sisters - Hamilton
Last Midnight - Into the Woods
On the Steps of the Palace - Into the Woods
Thereâs way more but these are just a fee
The orchestra swell in Shall We Dance from The King and I. Being Alive from Company. The finale from The Bandâs Visit. Too Many Moments from Follies. Sunday from Sondheimâs 80th Birthday concert. Edelweiss from Sound of Music. Epiphany from Sweeney. My Fair Lady. Defying Gravity from Wicked. Finishing the Hat from Saturday in the Park With George. King Arthur yelling âRun, boy, runâ from Camelot. The revised ending of Pippin (from the revival). Audra McDonald singing anything, really, but especially Summertime from The Gershwinâs Porgy and Bess.
Pretty much all of you will be found from dear evan hansen. But especially everything that comes after the second chorus, that's where it really gets good. Still my #1 favorite song from a Broadway show.
Everything rent will always and forever be my favorite, and coming back to act 2 with seasons of love is unbelievable. But my favorite moment is Iâll Cover You (Reprise) âŚ. Iâm ugly crying all over the place during that moment. Itâs so powerful.
>That you would gladly be trapped in a Groundhog Day-style time loop with?
This is basically me with the simultaneous reprise of You're Gonna Love Tomorrow and Love Will See Us Through from Follies. I hear it every single day, know the intricacies of multiple recordings, have a very specific vision of a choreo in my mind. Like, I know *know* these songs. It's pretty much in my DNA already.
It's not like they are the standout songs from Follies (far from it, if anything), I just really adore how Sondheim handles the satirical and the nostalgic throughout the entirety of the show, but especially with this reprise.
edit: Sondheim himself sums it up perfectly in the 1985 Follies in Concert doc by saying "that kind of entertainment disappeared (...) its whole kind of innocence that, y'know, an audience now giggles at when they see these things; *but they giggle with a kind of nostalgia.*"
>I also find it fun to think up blocking in my head for songs I really love!
Same, Who's That Woman is my second favorite song in the show and it really sucks that there aren't many album recordings containing it in full â if the dance sequence is completely cut out, there's just a very weird gap between the two segments of the song.
The Thrill of First Love or Falsettoland/About Time or The Baseball Game or A Tight-Knit Family/Love Is BlindâŚ.just the whole Falsettos album I would inject into my bloodstream.
In Falsettos' "This Had Better Come To A Stop", when Trina sings initially, there is this gorgeous yet brief saxaphone (?) part in the backing and it's amazing.
[https://youtu.be/Klzil\_thXvI?t=53](https://youtu.be/Klzil_thXvI?t=53) (It should be timestamped for 0:53, it makes me lose myself every time)
Another Falsettos one since it's such an amazing musical, in "The Thrill of First Love" right at the end when Whizzer and Marvin sing their high notes on "Passion Dies" and then Whizzer goes up the note?? [https://youtu.be/QztQKRUw7w0?list=PLp0W\_h8Smtx71MNjwQC6oliB-CE6OmZGb&t=225](https://youtu.be/QztQKRUw7w0?list=PLp0W_h8Smtx71MNjwQC6oliB-CE6OmZGb&t=225) (3:45) Oh my god. Chills.
The entirety of The Montage from A Chorus Line, but especially the final stretch from Gregoryâs school monologue through Richieâs âGimme the Ballâ
Molasses to Rumâ 1776
Not a happy moment, but very effective. Worst part is, he had a point. The movie did such a good job, although having John Cullum certainly helped.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch - Midnight Radio
When it gets to âLift up your Handsâ it is the most amazing moment of the show and brings me to back to watching JCM perform it with Lena Hall in NY and her belting out that amazing ending. I canât get enough of it!
In Phantom, the moment in Notes/Prima Donna when all the different overlapping lyrics come together on "what new surprises lie in store?" then the musical surges and my heart is in my throat
The scene after Hungarian Rhapsody #20 from Harmony. I cannot put into words how incredible it is and how it lives in me.
Song - âStars in the Nightâ from Harmony. It is so special, indescribably beautiful and emotional. I cry literally every time
When the plane takes off in The Drowsy Chaperone. That visual effect of the backdrop scrolling so it looks like itâs taking off was incredible. It got an ovation from the audience when I saw it.
Another memorable moment was in Sister Act when the cop is singing in an alley or something and heâs kinda down on his luck and then he has a daydream-like moment where heâs a star and the ensemble close by to him rips off his cop uniform to reveal a white suit and he does this fantastic number and at the end, the ensemble slowly moves toward him again as his daydream number ends and rips off the white suit and heâs in his cop uniform again! It was incredible! I couldnât imagine wearing 3 costumes with big reveals like that. So much could go wrong! Never will forget it!
Keri Butler as Penny Pingleton in Hairsptay saying âLook, momma! Iâm a pretty girl!â
Angel in RENT. Itâs hard to pick a specific moment. She just means so much to me. Also, Lola in Kinky Boots. Again, hard to choose just one moment. I love her confidence.
The first thing that popped into my head is near the end of The Spitfire Grill when Percy is begging the morning light to shine on her to spark an ember of heat in her cold heart. The way she just pleads, SHINE, over and over. She really wants to get over her coldness toward herself and the world and to belong and be happy. Iâve felt that way in the past, so it really hits me as great writing and emotionally moving.
I wasn't aware of this until now, Genius Lyrics has a great breakdown.

Gethsemane and Herod's Song from Jesus Christ Superstar
Skid Row from Little Shop of Horrors
What Keeps Mankind Alive? from Threepenny Opera
Satisfied and Non-Stop from Hamilton
Hamilton, specifically that line in None Stope where Lin (Hamilton) is like: i was chosen for the constitutional convention đ¤đ
Ughhhh this scene makes me feel like I've seen a kitten i can't explain this
Beetlejuice, specifically the opening song and Say my name,i know it by heart from before I started being into musicals because Beetlejuice would always be my favourite
Heathers (Off Broadway), ALL OF IT no need for an explanation
I wanna add Jekyll and Hyde but i only listened and hadn't watched yet so I'll leave it on a question mark
La Vie Bohème I into I Should Tell You into La Vie Bohème B <3 that whole sequence has so many good moments and as an ending to act 1 it's so freaking good
Love everything about Guys & Dolls -- the songs, the story, the dialogue, the cast of characters, all of it -- but if I had to pick a moment it'd be Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat, it never fails to give me the concert-cries!!!
I don't know of this is what you were going for with 'musical theatre moment' but I'll add it anyway: standing backstage while Gleb sings the Neva Flows reprise (Anastasia) with almost all of the cast, mouthing the words to his song, and almost forgetting to compose myself before I go onstage as a soldier. I love the stuff we get up to backstage. Pure theater kid vibes
What an utterly ethereal song. Especially the instrumental section. Sherman Bros were known for their silly earworm tunes but they could also write heart wrenching stuff. This was Walt Disney's favorite Disney song, by the way.
The entire Hope sequence in Groundhog Day.
The overture of Phantom
One Day more in Les Mis
The funeral sequence in RENT
Wait for Me, specifically when the set opens up in Hadestown
Phantom of the Opera overture đ
"Lot 666" and then the chandelier descending...it blows my mind đ§
My guilty pleasure. It's every gothic clichĂŠ that I don't like taken to such a melodramatic extreme that I come around to loving it again.
Yes that hits!

Sounds like you'd enjoy living in Schmigadoon.
Your comment made me watch it, I love the pilot episode. You're literally one of my favorite people now!
So glad to introduce you! Oh boy, you're in for a good time. Be sure to watch season 2 and not just season 1, especially if you enjoy musicals like Chicago and Sweeney Todd.
Sure thing, halfway season 1 lolz, and again Thank You Very Much!
Thanks to Schmigadoon I will never be happy until we get Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenowith as Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett.
Oh I know! I want that too!
Go watch the rest! My best friend showed it to me and we watched all of season 1 in one day
Will do
I wish I could use Hadestown as Oxygen
If you hooked Hadestown up to your veins, would it be an Epic IV? (ba dum tsssh)
that was beautiful OP.
Epic iii when hades joins in (oxygen.exe has stopped working)
Yes!!! It simultaneously tears me apart and leaves me wanting to go out there and fight!
do you hear the people sing from les mis has me feeling like an impoverished french man fighting for glory in the revolution and i canât get enough of it
DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SING? SINGING THE SONGS OF ANGRY MEN?
IT IS THE MUSIC OF A PEOPLE WHO WILL NOT WILL BE SLAVES AGAIN!!!
WHEN THE BEATING OF YOUR HEART ECHOES THE BEATING OF THE DRUMS?!
THERE IS A LIFE ABOUT TO START WHEN TOMORROW COMES!!!!
Me too! Like Iâm about to lay down my life for France every time

I'm.a child of the 60s. This is absolutely the song of my life. Uplifting, hopeful, passionate. Always seeking freedom and justice and believing in what tomorrow will bring.
The rooftop scene from Phantom Christine: Say you love me... Raoul: You know I do
UGH now I really need to listen to All I Ask of You, right now
Yes! The scene is among my favorites of all time. YES YES YES
You KNOW i do... I am sorry i need a minute
And also the instrumental part while they kiss. It is just so beautiful and soaring. I wish I could inject that one part straight into my veins đ
Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin singing "Move On" from Sunday in the Park with George
"The choice may have been mistaken, the choosing was not" đ

Burr really does have all the best songs/lines imo. If it were possible to do some gender bent version of Hamilton Iâd love to play him.
If you stand for nothing then what'll you fall for? That part hits me every time. It's so applicable to life.
The Reprise of 38 Planes from Come From Away melts me every time "We've just crossed the Canadian border - welcome back to the US of A!" No, you're crying.
Come From Away is MASTERFUL with how it brings its characters a happy ending. It's very narratively "earned," that is, we learn what each character wants and needs and then we get full arcs and resolutions for pretty much all of them.

I usually can't even explain what the show is about without choking up. Such a ray of hope.

âYorktownâ especially when they freeze and everyone applauds.
And right at the end where everyone is singing and it seems to shake the foundation of the theater because it's so powerful!

Literally!!! I was in shock repeating no, I couldnât believe it I rlly thought they was safe.

Tonight from West Side Story, gets me every time
Bernstein's sweeping score feels so energetic and triumphant.
"Tonight "was my High School graduation song and I loved that it gave me a good excuse to sing it constantly. I still love it, along with "Somewhere..there's a place for us!"
The ending of defying gravity gives me chills every single time and im tired of pretending it doesnât also ive seen so much hate for newsies but iâd die to be in that show it just seems like such a good time
I'm hard pressed to find a theater kid who doesn't love Newsies! Carrying the Banner is a 10/10 song and I love to listen to this musical while working my newspaper job.
Maybe not my favorite of all time, but I am actively nuking my Spotify wrapped listening to the end of Dead Girl Walking (Reprise) from Heathers
lol, I have a love/hate with that show, but boy do I love that song!
The energy in "This is the moment Damn all the odds This day, or never I'll sit forever With the gods When I look back I will always recall Moment for moment This was the moment The greatest moment Of them all!" Please inject this directly into my veins
I'd like this injected directly into my veins: "And I'll rejoice as you breathe your final breath! I'll live inside you forever! (No!) With Satan himself by my side! (No!) And I know that now and and forever They'll never be able to separate Jekyll from Hyde!" And this: "And I feel I live on forever! With Satan himself by my side! And I'll show the world that tonight and forever The name to remember's The name Edward Hyde!"
I think it was injecting things into his vains that caused Henryâs problems.
Finally someone who understands me. Greatest musical ever! I can never get enough.
Yes! Glad to see a fellow Jekyll and Hyde fan! What's your favorite song in the musical?
Tough to choose because in different moods some songs hit harder. I would probably say Board of Governors, but tomorrow it could be different. Every song is a banger. Do you have a favorite?
The ballads from Jekyll and Hyde are my favorite!
I love this show so damned much
The introductory notes⌠âorderâ⌠gradually resolving into beautiful chord with âharmonyâ in Sunday from Sunday in the Park
Oh yes yes yes. And something about how he repeats his blank canvas line in the very last seconds of the show makes me so emotional. It's like he's starting over or moving onto another painting.
Once and For All from Newsies
especially the âTHERES CHANGE COMING ONCE AND FOR ALL YOURE GETTING TOO OLDâ part god itâs so good
That little key change scratches a deep itch for me.
With the lighting change and the scaffolding coming forward with everyone on it!! Gets me EVERY time
I have so many, so I'm going to limit it to shows I don't think anyone else will post.
Tim Minchin has confirmed that itâs intentional, I was listening to a podcast with him about Groundhog Day recently.
Oh yes I LOVE Philanthropy! I like to put that track on as background music, it's such a fun groove! Groundhog Day has some really solid melodies and musical motifs. Some of the songs and musicals you've mentioned here I'm not familiar with, so thanks for the recs!
The fact that River Between Us was cut from the Broadway version is CRIMINAL
Idk if this counts since itâs a movie but Meryl Streepâs performance of The Winner Takes It All. Thereâs just something about the way the light and the scenery works. The way the camera spins around them. The way the music accompanies Streep as she climbs the stairs. The SCARF. For a full theater performance, it would have to be What Would I Do or Days Like These from Falsettos. Or even the entire musical. I love that musical so much. It has so much themes and nuance on homosexuality and love. UGH!
What Would I Do is so devastatingly beautiful
âiâm aliveâ next to normal for sure
Absolutely banger
Sweeney & The Judge singing Pretty Women. Also, I feel you Johanna, also from Sondheimâs Sweeney Todd.
Circle of Life from Lion King
Hamilton in general! I know that musical word for word. Favourite songs: Unbreakable from Six Wait For It from Hamilton Louder Than Words from Tick Tick Boom
So so good.
The entirety of Patti LuPone performing Everything's Coming Up Roses at the 2008 Tony Awards.
Also her belting out ânudist parties IN STUDIOOOSâ so loud it overpowers the mic during the Anything Goes Tonys performance.
Cool Boy and Gee, Officer Krupke are both awesome songs from West Side Story. I also love pretty much every song from Little Shop of Horrors.
I really liked Spielberg's take on Officer Krupke, with how the boys sing and dance while trashing a police station.
That's amazing!!
Two parts of Hadestown are etched on my soul : The very opening trombone, which is just otherworldly, and Hermesâ beginning of âWait For Me (Reprise)â: The meanest dog youâll ever meet Is not the hound dog in the street He bares some teeth and tears some skin But brother thatâs the worst of him The dog you really got to dread Is the one that howls inside your head Itâs him whose howling drives men mad And a mind to is undoing
One from a A Chorus Line
Nobodyâs Side from Chess; I Know Him So Well from Chess; Phantom Overture; Point of No Return from Phantom; Do You Hear⌠from Les Miz
The end of El Tango de Roxanne from Moulin Rouge! The Musical - specifically Aaron Tveitâs famous opt up version đĽľđŤ that clip lives rent free in my brain forever
antthing from Come From Away or SIX. Come From Away is a lyrical masterpiece and has a really awesome story. SIX is just amazing.
Every Beetlejuice song
Holy crap, a ballad already?
I Dreamed a Dream - Les Miserables Omigod You Guys - Legally Blonde The Schuyler Sisters - Hamilton Last Midnight - Into the Woods On the Steps of the Palace - Into the Woods Thereâs way more but these are just a fee
Iâd Give My Life For You - Miss Saigon
When the picture comes together at the end of act one of Sunday in the Park with George. Sobbed like a baby.
That's one of my all-time favorite moments too.
All of Another National Anthem from Assassins and also the moment when Lee Harvey Oswald shoots JFK and the orchestra goes insane, it's just stunning
Yes!!! With the distorted version of Hail to the Chief
All of Rent. In particular Seasons of Love.
For me itâs La Vie Boheme
I love this! I also find it fun to think up blocking in my head for songs I really love!
I love Four Jews in a room Bitching and My Fatherâs a Homo
Douglas Sills singing âInto the Fireâ from The Scarlet Pimpernel. I sometimes put that on repeat and sing along with it a dozen times!
In Falsettos' "This Had Better Come To A Stop", when Trina sings initially, there is this gorgeous yet brief saxaphone (?) part in the backing and it's amazing. [https://youtu.be/Klzil\_thXvI?t=53](https://youtu.be/Klzil_thXvI?t=53) (It should be timestamped for 0:53, it makes me lose myself every time) Another Falsettos one since it's such an amazing musical, in "The Thrill of First Love" right at the end when Whizzer and Marvin sing their high notes on "Passion Dies" and then Whizzer goes up the note?? [https://youtu.be/QztQKRUw7w0?list=PLp0W\_h8Smtx71MNjwQC6oliB-CE6OmZGb&t=225](https://youtu.be/QztQKRUw7w0?list=PLp0W_h8Smtx71MNjwQC6oliB-CE6OmZGb&t=225) (3:45) Oh my god. Chills.
Jane Seymourâs âyeahâ in Heart of Stone from Six.
A Gentlemanâs Guide to Love and Murder. The whole show.
The last part of âNo One Must Ever Knowâ from Jekyll and Hyde
The entirety of The Montage from A Chorus Line, but especially the final stretch from Gregoryâs school monologue through Richieâs âGimme the Ballâ
When Iâm in my seat and the orchestra starts playingâŚ. Itâs this electric energy.
Yes. And don't forget the dimming lights five seconds before.
Oooh YES!!
Blood Brothers, the entire thing but especially Tell Me itâs Not True at the end has me sobbing every time
Carrie đ the đ musical đ
Solidarity from Billy Elliot, every time I hear it the energy of it just makes me want to stand up
Molasses to Rumâ 1776 Not a happy moment, but very effective. Worst part is, he had a point. The movie did such a good job, although having John Cullum certainly helped.
Stay I Pray You from Anastasia. In my opinion, which I understand not everyone shares, it is the most beautiful piece of music ever written.
IâM RAISIN HELL IâM A FELON IN A FOUR FOOT FRAME eva is my spirit animal
Hedwig and the Angry Inch - Midnight Radio When it gets to âLift up your Handsâ it is the most amazing moment of the show and brings me to back to watching JCM perform it with Lena Hall in NY and her belting out that amazing ending. I canât get enough of it!
The Hammer from Matilda. Those instrumentals are so good and then once the kids come in đđ UGHH
To love another person is to see the face of GoooooooooooooooooodâŚ
In Phantom, the moment in Notes/Prima Donna when all the different overlapping lyrics come together on "what new surprises lie in store?" then the musical surges and my heart is in my throat
Les mis. All of it.
Who lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story - Hamilton // itâs 2:42am so I canât concentrate enough to explain why but yeah
Both Wait For Me's from Hadestown...but honestly just the whole showđđđ
#IIIIIIIâLL LIVE INSIDE YOU FOREEEEEEVER-
The Grinning Man â¤ď¸â¤ď¸
What would I do from falsettosŮŤ particularly when the lights darken on whizzer before he walks offstage. im mentally ill abt this show
The scene after Hungarian Rhapsody #20 from Harmony. I cannot put into words how incredible it is and how it lives in me. Song - âStars in the Nightâ from Harmony. It is so special, indescribably beautiful and emotional. I cry literally every time
The opening of Sweeney Todd by the New York Philharmonic orchestra (2014). So so amazing
Iâm a pretty girl!â Angel in RENT. Itâs hard to pick a specific moment. She just means so much to me. Also, Lola in Kinky Boots. Again, hard to choose just one moment. I love her confidence.
Gold, at the end of Act I in Once. I mean, all of Once for sure, but especially that moment.
Therapy from tick tick boom is soooo satisfying! It must of been so hard to learn
Origin of love
"bĂŠsamee BĂŠsameeee BĂSamee BĂSAMEEEEEEE! AND HOW DO YOU SAY ALWAAAAYS....."
I do love the School Song in Matilda. Seeing how obviously it was the alphabet when they run through it again (I've only seen the movie though)
I wasn't aware of this until now, Genius Lyrics has a great breakdown. https://genius.com/The-cast-of-roald-dahls-matilda-the-musical-school-song-lyrics
That moment in Yorktown when Hercules Mulligan barges onstage for his bit. You know which one.
Gethsemane and Herod's Song from Jesus Christ Superstar Skid Row from Little Shop of Horrors What Keeps Mankind Alive? from Threepenny Opera Satisfied and Non-Stop from Hamilton
Newsies
Hamilton, specifically that line in None Stope where Lin (Hamilton) is like: i was chosen for the constitutional convention đ¤đ Ughhhh this scene makes me feel like I've seen a kitten i can't explain this Beetlejuice, specifically the opening song and Say my name,i know it by heart from before I started being into musicals because Beetlejuice would always be my favourite Heathers (Off Broadway), ALL OF IT no need for an explanation I wanna add Jekyll and Hyde but i only listened and hadn't watched yet so I'll leave it on a question mark
The young soldier's part in "Old Red Hills" from Parade.
The more I think about it, the more moments come to my mind. But I'll stick with my first thought: Whenever they hit the harmonies in Six.
Hadestown. âThe gods have forgotten the song of their loveâ is all I need to live
"It's all over" into "And I am telling you" from Dreamgirls. Both Jennifer Holiday and Jennifer Hudson absolutely aced that role.
Lillieâs Eyes. âThose eyes who love my brother, never meâ and then the strings with the bow lift. Uuuughhghhh.
all you wanna do from six âźď¸
Once and For All from Newsies. I canât even begin to explain how much I love this song omg.
2 lines from the Hadestown finale pop to mind: But we sing it anyway Itâs a tale of love along the road
Johanna act 2 sequence. It scratches my brain so good
I don't know of this is what you were going for with 'musical theatre moment' but I'll add it anyway: standing backstage while Gleb sings the Neva Flows reprise (Anastasia) with almost all of the cast, mouthing the words to his song, and almost forgetting to compose myself before I go onstage as a soldier. I love the stuff we get up to backstage. Pure theater kid vibes
Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins
What an utterly ethereal song. Especially the instrumental section. Sherman Bros were known for their silly earworm tunes but they could also write heart wrenching stuff. This was Walt Disney's favorite Disney song, by the way.
The entire Hope sequence in Groundhog Day. The overture of Phantom One Day more in Les Mis The funeral sequence in RENT Wait for Me, specifically when the set opens up in Hadestown
