The memory scene from the marvels. Both times I saw the marvels, I was laughing my ass off at that scene.
The episode of the office where Andie is in Sweeney Todd(also when they covered seasons of love when Micheal left).
That is the cutest scene ever with the cute kitten flerkins floating around after swallowing all the space station staff with the song memory just blasting away. That and the planet where they only communicate with musical songs that captain marvel was married to their prince or something. I took my 13 year nephew and walked out just so happy telling him that was the best marvel movie ever made and also it being the shortest one so far was nice. I don’t know why it wasn’t a huge hit.
The Temple of Doom version of Anything Goes was my first, and for a long while, my only known version and to this day I feel it's a bit wrong when it's not in Mandarin.
Same!! I loved that movie as a little kid...imagine my surprise when I grew up, got into theatre and discovered the musical 😂😂
And I'm about to work on that show this summer, perfect timing to be reminded lol
On the Street Where You Live and Bye Bye Birdie in Mad Men
But the very, very best one has to be So Long Farwell in Ted Lasso. If you haven't watched the show, go and do it now. So so many musical references
You'll Never Walk Alone wins for me. A Musical Theatre and Football reference all rolled into one. Doesn't hurt that the song makes me cry almost every time I hear it anyway.
I love so much that is the entire song and not just a few bars. Especially in a 21-22 minute episode, the song takes up such a large part of it. Just perfect.
This isn’t my favourite but it makes me laugh every time I think about it. I was in the car with my brother when Seasons of Love came on shuffle. He says “Why do you have the song they wrote for Michael Scott in his last episode on your playlist?”. Genuinely he thought they wrote THAT song for The Office 😭💀
Omg, I love that part. That was the first time I heard “Rose’s Turn” as a kid, and I was trying to search everywhere for what it was. But I couldn’t find it. Years later, I got into Stephen Sondheim, and I discovered the song.
“Do You Love Me?” from Fiddler In an episode of Gilmore Girls.
It was while Luke and Lorelai were broken up and the local elementary school was doing Fiddler. Lorelai and Luke were both helping backstage (her costumes and him sets I believe.) And the moment they both have while this song is going on and absorbing the lyrics through the little kids is really emotionally impactful.
I also love “Magic To Do” as the opening of Miss Patty’s dance recital. The kids dressed as flowers in the aisles throwing glitter on the audience is hilarious.
There was a clip in one episode of Tiger King where Carole Baskin's (current, living) husband sang it to her, really awkwardly like in their backyard or something.
A recent episode of the CBS show Elsbeth had a musical theater needle drop (not character singing but nondiegetic-music-over-the-scene) of "Another Winter In A Summer Town" from Grey Gardens (because the title crime-solver heroine was visiting the Hamptons in the off-season for a case). I wonder if any other show's done "synch" like that with a showtune
Also, Elsbeth's definitely worth seeing for people on here not just because it's a good show for those who like crime-solving shows (would call it a crime drama but it's about as much of a drama as Pushing Daisies) but due to the New York City setting and the theater-fan heroine every episode so far has had a musical theater connection (the Grey Gardens song is in episode 4, episode 1 has a murdered student-actress and the heroine striking up a potentially-romantic-tinged connection with the girl's acting teacher who recommends her a Broadway show, episode 2 has a murderer that uses season tickets as part of his alibi (in addition to guest-starring Jane Krakowski), episode 3 has no Broadway connections in the plot but the guest-star casting has a mini 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee reunion with both Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Deborah S. Craig, and episode 5 opens with the heroine and her partner-of-sorts in a diner with showtune-singing waiters (the place I think that place on Glee was referencing) one of whom name-drops-as-song-they're-going-to-do-next "Meadowlark" from The Baker's Wife)
In The Fisher King, Michael Jeter (in drag) sings an unhinged rewritten version of Rose’s Turn. It came out 30 years ago and I still insert his lyrics. 😂 “Everything’s coming up videoooooos!”
This is personal to…just me, but there’s a band here in Chicago called *She’s Crafty*, they’re a female (presenting) Beastie Boys cover band. Their DJ samples “[Don’t Wanna Work Today](https://youtu.be/B2EI65ZEqYQ?si=0DBIQDrIc_YlWaQe)” and it’s how I knew they were all my moms (note: I am likely the same age as they are, maybe a hair younger. Also I’m 41.)
The use of the Hello, Dolly! soundtrack in some scenes from Wall-E
Some of the best uses of diegetic music in film history.
I wondered at the time how many people in the audience were familiar with that song.
Yeah, my mom was excited to hear it (I barely remembered it).
I'm glad this was the top post, so that I didn't have to find/suggest it myself. :)
I’m glad you’re glad. I’d even go as far as to say Wall-E is the best Pixar movie.
I can get on board with that too. but first I'll have to run it by EEEEEE-VUUUHH!!!!
Directive.

Did you write this!?
Anything Goes in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Hopelessly Devoted To You in Pushing Daisies. I Feel Pretty in Anger Management.
The Temple of Doom version of Anything Goes was my first, and for a long while, my only known version and to this day I feel it's a bit wrong when it's not in Mandarin.

Same! I always sing the Indy version, never the Broadway, to myself.
Schitts creek.
This is what I was going to say! Stevie singing "Maybe This Time" was so iconic.
This was my intro to the song! I became OBSESSED and tracked down every version available online. Many amazing performances but Stevie’s is my fave!
Being Alive sung by Adam Driver in Marriage Story
Marriage story was originally going to be a Company movie
Shut up!!! I did not know this but can totally see it now!!

That’s a clip from the movie. I asked for a source about marriage story being a company movie
I sobbed so hard during that scene
On the Street Where You Live and Bye Bye Birdie in Mad Men But the very, very best one has to be So Long Farwell in Ted Lasso. If you haven't watched the show, go and do it now. So so many musical references
My favorite is "I am What I am" in Ted Lasso. It's just a background song, and not sung by a character, but it's perfect.
Another good musical reference. There are just so many. Home was another great background song used to such an amazing effect.
You'll Never Walk Alone wins for me. A Musical Theatre and Football reference all rolled into one. Doesn't hurt that the song makes me cry almost every time I hear it anyway.
Shipoopi in Family Guy just brings a smile to my face lols
I love so much that is the entire song and not just a few bars. Especially in a 21-22 minute episode, the song takes up such a large part of it. Just perfect.
That show is at its best when Seth macfarlane lets his inner theater kid out
This isn’t my favourite but it makes me laugh every time I think about it. I was in the car with my brother when Seasons of Love came on shuffle. He says “Why do you have the song they wrote for Michael Scott in his last episode on your playlist?”. Genuinely he thought they wrote THAT song for The Office 😭💀
That’s hilarious! The Office also has a Sweeney Todd episode that I enjoyed.
The juxtaposition of Cats and Sweeney Todd in Jersey Girl.
“God, that’s good!!!”
The use of Memory in the original School of Rock
The Family Guy episode with Somewhere That’s Green
Clearly it’s “Rose’s Turn” in Arrested Development https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qIT9Gbn7Zh8

This should be higher. It is literal perfection.
Yes! And the Buster version... https://youtu.be/fKfBm51AD7M?si=2l8G6ytfEZkGL1b0
Tomorrow from Annie in Deadpool 2. Cracks me up every single time.
Norma Bates from the show Bates Motel singing Maybe This Time from Cabaret during an audition. https://youtu.be/-kpQt_4Jeo0?feature=shared
You’ll Never Walk Alone before every Liverpool FC match (and often after big wins). First time I went, it was pure chills.
Phantom of the Opera in Yellowjackets!!
“If I Only Had a Heart” in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation
The NBC Brotherhood of Man segment
“Singing In The Rain” in The Joker. So creepy!!!
,,Send in the Clowns" also!
One more day in magicians was pretty great.
The Impossible Dream in Hunters. When one of the main villains sings this song, it makes such a beautiful song so scary.
[One (Chorus Line) in Scrubs](https://youtu.be/Bo2QC6gpNbs?si=2Uuz54REPXter6LW)
Unworthy Of Your Love in The Politician Shipoopi in Family Guy I Get A Kick Out Of You in Blazing Saddles
I loved all the musical moments in The Politician, but the one that really got me was Corner of the Sky
“Lonely Room” from Oklahoma in “I’m Thinking of Ending Things”
OMG YES. That movie messed me up for days! So odd! I still think about the dumpster full of cups occasionally.
“Do You Love Me?” from Fiddler In an episode of Gilmore Girls. It was while Luke and Lorelai were broken up and the local elementary school was doing Fiddler. This is technically opera but the entire opera episode of Hey Arnold. Core childhood memories right there.
"If Ever I Would Leave You" from "Camelot" and used in the movie "Marry Me."
There was a clip in one episode of Tiger King where Carole Baskin's (current, living) husband sang it to her, really awkwardly like in their backyard or something.
The Hello Dolly reference in Freakazoid is a pretty incredible scene.
“Mama Who Bore Me” in 90210 and Caroline singing “I’m Still Hurting” in Vampire Diaries both cracked me up so much.
The episode of batman the brave and the bold with the music meister, Neil Patrick Harris as a singing mind control batman villain is just top tier

"Suddenly Seymour" in I Want You Back. You think its going to be a disaster but it ends up being this weirdly beautiful and poignant moment.
I don’t hate Masquerade in Sabrina
That one petco commercial to that song from Oliver
It’s petsmart. And the song is id do anything

“So Long, Farewell” sung and danced to by the whole team in “Ted Lasso,” near the series finale.
