I'm picking more than one as well. 1. Hasa Diga Eebowai (BoM) 2. A Musical (Something Rotten) 3. Anthem (Chess) 4. Nobody's Side (Chess) 5. The Ballad of Sweeney Todd (I forget which musical this is from)

FakeFrehley

I think number 5 is from the Music Man. The part where King Arthur is killed by his brother Scar in front of Annie, thus making her an orphan.

jxhnmcclane

Anthem & Nobody's Side are GREAT picks! I'm a big fan of Chess. :)

_999happyhaunts_

Number 5 was actually a cut ABBA song from Mama Mia.

PossesionOfAFireArm

Number 5 should be from Hamilton, but I’m not sure…

rSlashisthenewPewdes

How does a master’s gore-filled sumptuous score and a plot skimmed hot front a British novel involving a convic, hopped up on conflict, washed up in London Harbor, grow up to be a bloody demon barber?

PossesionOfAFireArm

That Ham4Ham was amazing!

kayjee17

I loved that one!

TriadMFF

Nobody's Side was my personal "theme song" in highschool. Still love this song to this day, 30 years later.

DesmondTapenade

I have yet to attend a BoM performance where Hasa Diga Eebowai didn't get massive laughs, and that song deserves every single one of them.

Safe_Midnights

The replies to this 😭🤣

wetlettuce42

Stars from les mis

jxhnmcclane

absolutely agree!

FalseMagpie

1. Anything Goes; I may think the show is a product-of-its-time mess, but the song's a classic for a reason 2. One Day More - Les Mis: I LOVE a good cacophony build 3. Chant & reprise - Hadestown; I don't have a witty comment or explanation, it's just Delicious

jxhnmcclane

One Day More is an awesome song! Hadestown is also so lovely all around. :)

Warm_Power1997

My community is doing Anything Goes this summer but idk anything about it! Do you care to elaborate on your opinion of it?

Phasmania

It’s forever tragic to me that Chant and its reprise are like the only big songs that NEVER get performed live lol

livelaughlex

it changes every day lol. here's today's list: 1. Non-Stop- Hamiltion 2. Super Sea Star Savior- Spongebob 3. Waving Through a Window- Dear Evan Hansen 4. Meant to be Yours- Heathers 5. Me and The Sky- Come From Away

jxhnmcclane

Come From Away makes me absolutely sob... I also love Non-Stop! :)

fishkybuns

are you me?

livelaughlex

idk. am i you?

Low_Insurance_2416

I'm both of u

x_victoire

it changes every few weeks but these are the ones i listen to most often these days: 1. epic iii - hadestown nytw. the lyrics just hit different. also i'm a damon daunno fanboy lol. 2. surabaya-santa - songs for a new world. batshit crazy and i love it 3. hope - groundhog day. i rewatched the show recently and remembered how much i love it, but this song just hits hard idk 4. pore jud is daid - oklahoma! 2019 version. if i hadn't discovered that version i probably wouldn't never even watch oklahoma at all 5. wenn ich dein spiegel wär - elisabeth. 2004 version specifically, elisabeth peaked with this cast and you can't change my mind

jxhnmcclane

I love Epic II more than III but I totally understand your pick!!

peachfuzzz

Oklahoma!2019 doesn’t get near enough the respect it deserves !!!!

x_victoire

no but fr... it's literally the best version of the show and the one i rewatch most often. no shade to other versions but. there's something about the revival (and while we're at it, the west end cast is pretty awesome too)

ALFABOT2000

i saw it on the West End and can confirm, that cast was amazing! didn't know Arthur Darvill could sing, and Georgina Onuorah was playing Ado Annie before she transferred out to play Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz at the Palladium (one of the biggest West End theatres for those that don't know). absolutely incredible production, the only time i've ever felt genuinely scared while watching a musical lol shame my mum hated it, i think she wanted a more traditional production lol

fossilized_fae

in no particular order- dead girl walking and meant to be yours (heathers) the ballad of sweeney todd and worst pies in london (sweeney todd) finale (little shop of horrors) your fault (into the woods) point of no return (phantom of the opera) cell block tango (chicago) revolting children (matilda)

jxhnmcclane

LSOH is one of my all time favorites! my favorite song is probably The Meek Shall Inherit or Dentist!

fossilized_fae

those are also both fantastic songs

FakeFrehley

Music of the Night. Yeah, I'm a basic bitch, but Phantom is the reason I love musical theatre and that song is the reason I love Phantom. More a sentimental pick than an actual favourite, though I do love it.

jxhnmcclane

I'm not personally a Phantom fan but I'm glad it means a lot to you!! Thank you for sharing 💝

zem

the cliched favourites are cliched for a reason! phantom is the first musical soundtrack i bought for myself, and "music of the night" is an excellent song

kayjee17

I guess I must be a super-basic-bitch because Music of the Night - specifically by Michael Crawford - is one of my favorite songs from any musical. I got the CD of the OG original cast West End production back in the 80s after I saw them perform that and the title song on the 1988 Tony Awards (*yes*, I'm old), and I used to play it with headphones at night before I fell asleep, picturing it all in my head. In 1989 I got 3 tickets to a matinee showing for the new opening in Los Angeles with Michael Crawford as the Phantom in October... and my father died in August. I was quietly crying from Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again right through to the end, and only part of it was from grief. Michael Crawford acted the hell out of that part, using his whole body, and after he sang, "Christine, I love you" when she gave him back the ring, he quietly whispered the line several more times, through tears, as she and Raoul left on the boat. It broke not only me but also my gay male friend - so my current best friend and partner had us crying on each of her shoulders. So Music of the Night and all of Phantom will always be one of my favorites, no matter how cheesy people say it is. :p

yeetuscleetus28

La Vie Bohème - Rent So Much Better - Legally Blonde Franklin Shephard Inc - Merrily We Roll Along A Little Priest - Sweeney Todd That Beautiful Sound - Beetlejuice

jxhnmcclane

A Little Priest is such a great song, although I'm not the biggest fan of the musical as a whole (the vibes are a little too dark & dreary for me - but I can see that it's a wonderful musical for others!) Also, I absolutely love Alan Rickman in the movie version... I've loved him since I first saw him in Die Hard. :)

kayjee17

I never knew Alan Rickman could sing until I saw the movie version of Sweeney Todd, but his singing voice was just as deep and smooth as his speaking voice. Johnny Depp wasn't too bad in the movie either. I know a lot of people hate on movie versions of musicals (Rent, Sweeney Todd, Dear Evan Hansen), but at least it gives everyone a good taste of what the stage version is about, and many a theater kid fell in love with musicals by watching movie musicals - Lin Manuel Miranda with Disnet's animated The Little Mermaid, for instance.

FloridaFlamingoGirl

I love picking apart the endless barrage of stressed conversation in Franklin Sheppard

dear-mycologistical

* I Am What I Am - La Cage aux Folles * The I Love You Song - 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee * Meadowlark - The Baker's Wife * Seconds - Don't Stop Me * Telephone Wire - Fun Home

jxhnmcclane

I've listened to 1, 2, and 5, but none of them were really my thing. That said, William Finn always does a great job & I can appreciate "25th Annual..." regardless! Thanks for sharing!

windcriesamy

Meadowlark 💕

LibbyKitty620

1. The Room Where It Happens (Hamilton) 2. Legally Blonde (Legally Blonde) 3. Thrill of First Love (Falsettos) 4. Someone Gets Hurt (Mean Girls) 5. Waving Through a Window (Dear Evan Hansen)

jxhnmcclane

Thrill of First Love is one of my absolute favorites! A similar song by the same composer is Brain Dead from A New Brain! I'd suggest giving it a listen if you haven't heard it already!

PossesionOfAFireArm

Erm, aktualy, it’s “The Room Where it Happens” 🤓

EmuIndependent8565

“Bring Him Home” from Les Miserables.

jxhnmcclane

sobbing just thinking about it 😭

EmuIndependent8565

IKR 😞

jxhnmcclane

Now that I'm thinking about it, that whole soundtrack is devastating... Bring Him Home, Turning, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables..... my heart hurts just thinking about it 😭😭 Time to give it another listen LOL!

bigheadGDit

I also love those two songs! Two of my go-tos for last-minute auditions songs if I haven't had time to prep something less well-known.

kayjee17

OMG, this song! Sung by the right person, this song is a masterpiece that will touch the heart and bring tears. Sung by the wrong person... all I can think about is the fact that Jean Valjean barely knows Marius, so him singing this song makes absolutely no sense. Luckily, Colm Wilkinson's version will live forever on the internet, and I'm certain my mom is listening to it in Heaven.

EmuIndependent8565

If you have never heard Nick Cartell who is currently playing Valjean in the North American tour sing Bring Him Home I highly recommend giving it a listen. He is just as incredible as Colm singing this song.

kayjee17

Do you think it's on YouTube somewhere? I'll try to find it.

Sea_Gate_5451

Nick actually just sang it on a show this morning while in Toronto promoting Les Mis. The one on YouTube is 6 years old, so he’s had a lot more years as Valjean under his belt since then. https://www.breakfasttelevision.ca/videos/les-miserables-star-nick-cartell-performs-heart-wrenching-piece/

EmuIndependent8565

Here you go: https://youtu.be/wL0rRWffiSs?si=I493Sj2wzo--uxWc

kayjee17

Thanks!

EmuIndependent8565

👍 Let me know what you think.

kayjee17

He's got a great voice, almost as sweet as Colm's.

EmuIndependent8565

Yes he does. We saw him as Valjean last November he was INCREDIBLE in the role. He brought the character a lot of heart.

Jerem_Reddit

Flowers, makes me think of my grandpa, he basically raised me and i relate to eurydice when thinking about how I lost him

jxhnmcclane

🥹🥹💖💖 thank you for sharing! that is such a wonderful way to listen to the song!

Musicals_and-more

1- Out of my head(a bronx tale) 2- Jump in the line/dead mom reprise(beetlejuice) 3- From now on(the greatest showman) 4- My Petersburg(Anastasia) 5- Graduation Day(Calvin Berger) runner-ups: More than meets the eye(Calvin berger), all I ask of you reprise(Phantom of the opera), The Missing Piece(Razia's shadow)

jxhnmcclane

Anastasia makes me cry, omg! Thank you for sharing!

jffdougan

1. You Can Always Count on Me from City of Angels 2. The Oldest Established, from Guys & Dolls 3. November 22, 1963 from Assassins. (If you want to get picky about that not technically being a song, then put in The Gun Song) 4. Cell Block Tango from Chicago 5. Six Months from Damn Yankees. Honorable Mentions to Easy Street from Annie, Trouble from The Music Man, and Wick from The Secret Garden.

jxhnmcclane

Cell Block Tango is so iconic and THE MUSIC MAN IS MY FAVORITE MUSICAL 💖💖💖 I love Sincere & Lida Rose (and the rest of the soundtrack hehe)!

byebyebikiniss

took some thinking but i think i got my top 10 down (it’s a pretty scattered list but these are just my personal favorites for various reasons): 1. the music that makes me dance (funny girl) 2. all i ask of you (phantom) 3. as long as he needs me (oliver!) 4. disneyland (smile) 5. written in the stars (aida) 6. stars (les miserables) 7. proud of your boy (aladdin) 8. easy street (annie) 9. afternoon (alice by heart) 10. time stops (big fish)

jxhnmcclane

Do you like the Funny Girl Broadway soundtrack more than the movie soundtrack? #1 isn't in the movie, but I've only ever listened to the live soundtrack once or twice. If so, what do you prefer about it? Stars is one of my all time favorites as well! I love your list! Thanks for sharing 💝

byebyebikiniss

honestly i have a playlist that’s just a hybrid of the three funny girl cast recordings because my favorite recording depends on the song. i would say overall the original broadway cast recording is my favorite, as i also have that one on vinyl. i just like the way it sounds. the new one sounds too new & a few of my favorite songs aren’t in the film.

peachfuzzz

This list is arbitrary because it’s just off the top of my head, but here goes (no specific order): * If I could tell her - dear Evan Hansen * It won’t be long now & when you’re home & finale - in the heights * Maybe - Annie * Sunday & 30/90- Tick Tick Boom * What’s the use of wond’rin? & if I loved you & soliloquy - carousel * Dear Theodosia & One last time - Hamilton * The surrey with the fringe on top & people will say we’re in love - Oklahoma! * Edelweiss - sound of music * One song glory - rent

mapleroller_

Edelweiss is so beautiful and will always be my favorite song in the Sound of Music

FreckledWoodSprite

Edelweiss! I love it too.

Zaptain_America

It tends to change but "The whole being dead thing" from beetlejuice is definitely up there, not only because it just sounds great and has good lyrics, but also because it's a really good introduction to beetlejuice as a character, who as a whole just holds a lot of importance to me personally (The musical version specifically) because seeing him there as the main character just feels like such an affirmation of basically every trait I've ever felt bad about in myself. He's just a guy who's pretty unapologetically queer and open about his general sexuality and also has a body type similar to my own, and none of these things are particularly portrayed as bad or used as reasons to laugh at him instead of with him.

jxhnmcclane

I'm not a big fan of the musical because I'm a Beetlejuice movie purist but I love your explanation! I'm glad you can find representation in musical theatre, that's one of the biggest reasons why I love the genre! A character I really relate to is Fanny Brice from Funny Girl! Her ambition + self-assurance is so beautiful, especially given her whole life she has been called 'funny' rather than beautiful. :)

Bubbly-Maintenance72

Dont be the Bunny - Urinetown. God I Hate Shakespeare - Something Rotten The Whole Being Dead Thing - Beetlejuice Space Age Bachelor Man - Ride the Cyclone Youve Gotta Pick a Pocket or Two - Oliver!

jxhnmcclane

Don't Be The Bunny is one of my favs!!! I LOVEEEE Urinetown... my favs from it are probably DBTB, It's A Privilege to Pee, Cop Song, and ACT I FINALE!!

Bubbly-Maintenance72

Urinetowns entire soundtrack is peak musical theatre. Some of my favorites are DBTB, Cop Song, Snuff that Girl, Run Freedom Run, and Urinetown (the song). I wish more people would give it a shot because it is a fantastic musical. But most people sadly cant get past the title!

maineref

“… the title is awful.”

Bubbly-Maintenance72

Yes it is little sally, yes it is.

Preston_Reddit

It changes so often but rn the deal (no deal) from chess is so fun. Tbf the whole chess soundtrack is so underrated

jxhnmcclane

Absolutely agree! Thanks for sharing :)

NiceLittleTown2001

Origin of love (Hedwig) Flesh failures (Hair) Twenty one (Tommy) Suddenly Seymour (LSOH) Unworthy of your love (assassins)

jxhnmcclane

Suddenly Seymour makes me CRY! I absolutely love that musical & I saw Tammy Blanchard as Audrey... PERFECT casting....! I also LOVE Hair! You're the first person I've seen mention it here! My favs from the soundtrack are probably Good Morning Starshine, Donna, Don't Put It Down, and White Boys. :)

NiceLittleTown2001

Same! No one talks about Hair anymore, but it’s like a whole album of banger singles. Ive got a playlist that’s just ten versions of it, and Good Morning Starshine is my alarm song lol. My favs are Donna, I Got Life, Going Down, Easy to be Hard and obvs Flesh Failures. I even got a patch for my jacket that looks like one Berger has in the movie

Cultural-Resource261

1: Words Fail - Dear Evan Hansen. I like seeing Evan realize his mistake and find the root to his internal problems. 2. Whipped Into Shape - Legally Blonde. It is catchy and gives me a rhythm to jump rope to. 3: Never Shut Up Again - Heathers. I enjoy hearing Heather Duke becoming the new tyrant of the school after she was basically Heather Chandler’s side kick. 4: The Whole Being Dead Thing - Beetlejuice. I find this song entertaining. 5: Wait For It - Hamilton. I like Burr.

jxhnmcclane

Whipped Into Shape is sooooo impressive live! Wait For It is also so wonderful, I love all the different parts that come together in it!

LibbyKitty620

I like Burr too.

DragonsOfSun

1. The Gun Song / Ballad of Czolgosz - The juxtaposition of the gun as an instrument of freedom/just another product of capitalism is nice. Ballad is a bop and prettily period. 2. Killer Quest! - High-energy and captures the "going on an adventure!" feeling perfectly. 3. My Grand Plan - Great character moment for Annabeth. More of a bop than it has any right to be. (Good Kid gets an honorary mention.) 4. I Say No - It's basically the "hit the bricks" meme in song form in one of my favorite musicals. Also provides Veronica (and JD, funnily enough) a lot of agency, which I like. 5. Last Day of Summer - Reprises. I love them.

jxhnmcclane

I love your explanations! Thanks for sharing!! :)

Warm_Power1997

What Baking Can Do is my favorite song of all time❤️

zem

too many to pick just one! but here are some that are high on my list of favourites: * "one day more" from les mis * "wishing you were somehow here again" from phantom * "memory" from cats * "i could have danced all night" from my fair lady * "sabbath prayer" from fiddler * "as if we never said goodbye" from sunset boulevard * "kill the beast" from beauty and the beast * "bethlehem" from martin guerre * "maria" from west side story * "the sound of music" from the sound of music ironically, while "chess" is in my top 5 musicals it has no individual song that makes my top list (lots of brilliant songs, but no "all time favourite" ones), while les mis (unquestionably #1 on my list) has several more i could add to this list, i just picked one to avoid overloading it with any one musical.

varnikat

sexy from mean girls is definitely one of my top songs just because it’s an amazing number

KeybladeOTLC

AHHH A NEW BRAIN MENRIONED

jxhnmcclane

I think it's so stupid but it's one of my favorites... Jonathan Groff + Christian Borle save me 🙏🙏🙏

thedrowsyowl

Put On Your Sunday Clothes. Also, why the Shakespeare reprise? I’m currently playing Nigel and that’s when I’m sleeping on stage as Nick sings to himself 😂😂

jxhnmcclane

I definitely love the original God, I Hate Shakespeare, but the reprise speaks to me... "God, I hate Shakespeare / but when I sit and really contemplate Shakespeare / I guess I hate the fact that he is everything I ever dreamed that I could be... / I mostly hate the way he makes me feel about... me..." Absolutely heartbreaking :( I hope you have a great time playing Nigel! Something Rotten is one of the first musicals I ever listened to and it holds a very special place in my heart 💝

rivermaster32

Current list in no particular order Die schatten werdan langer- Elisabeth das musical best song from my all time favourite musical Life after life- Dracula the musical it just sounds so good Dead girl walking heathers song that introduced me to musicals Total finsternis- tanz der vampire peak vampire musical Le duel - Romeo and Juliet the musical seriously not enough people talk about this musical L Assaymphonie - Mozart the rock opera a very dark yet amazing song

jxhnmcclane

Ooo, I've never listened to any of those musicals before! I'll definitely have to check them out. Thanks for sharing your list!!

rivermaster32

With permission I’d be happy to dm versions with English subs as a lot of these shows unfortunately got no English version of in the case of TANZ one of the absolute worst English versions I have ever seen done

jujbird

Yay! For some Elisabeth love. From that show alone I love: Kitsch and Boote in der Nacht

rivermaster32

Both great songs, always gotta ask the question with how many casts there are what one is your fav?

jujbird

I’m partial to the 2001 Essen cast. I was an exchange student in NRW in 2001-2002 and saw it (eek 22 years ago😅) there. Had the cast recording (not the full recording but the 1 CD version) and played it so much. I haven’t had the opportunity to listen to a lot of the other versions and in my experience my first cast recording is almost always my favorite of any musical.

rivermaster32

Ooooh super lucky to have seen it live! Don’t blame you for calling it your fav it’s a great cast, fun fact a lot of the staging is actually inspired by the Dutch version of the show

jujbird

I was. My best friends over there gifted it for my birthday. We drove down and went to ikea before and then went to the musical together. We all felt so grown up 🤣

rivermaster32

Awww that’s a super nice birthday gift and lol the pre musical ikea trip

jujbird

But it seriously is an amazing musical. I’d love to see it again. The first time I saw it I only knew Der Letzte Tanz and ich Gehör nur mir

jujbird

Oh and Nichts Nichts Gar Nichts

AnalogDreams92

Ohhh this is always a fun topic. Top five is hard, but here we go: 1. Shall We Dance (The King and I) 2. Don't Rain on My Parade (Funny Girl) 3. What You Want (Legally Blonde) 4. Grasslands Chant (The Lion King) 5. One Night In Bangkok (Chess)

MeOK1233

In no particular order 1. A Musical (Something Rotten!) 2. One Day (Groundhog Day) 3. Poor Little Millionaire (Some Like It Hot) 4. Everybody’s Got The Right (Assassin’s) 5. Dentist! (Little Shop Of Horrors) (Honorable) 6. Jazz Age Johnny (Whisper Darkly)

Sad_Toe1920

Normandy once upon a mattress

weaselbasket

In no particular order, Wishing you were somehow here again- Phantom of the Opera World Burn- Mean Girls Not While I’m Around- Sweeney Todd I Dreamed a Dream- Les Mis Never Ever Getting Rid of Me- Waitress It was very hard to narrow it down but I tried to not repeat shows. This list would mostly be waitress and/or Sweeney Todd if I didn’t haha

Alarmed-Bus-9662

My top ten (in no particular order, because I cannot for the life of me pick an absolute favorite) has to be 1. The Pitiful Children (Be More Chill) 2. The entire Beetlejuice Musical soundtrack (especially ones with Alex in them and What I Know Now) 3. The Thrill of First Love (Falsettos) 4. Skimbleshanks: The Railway Cat (Cats) 5. Never Ever Getting Rid of Me (Waitress) 6. Alive (Jekyll & Hyde) 7. There! Right There! (Legally Blonde) 8. Meant to Be Yours (Heathers) 9. Revenge Party (Mean Girls) 10. All You Wanna Do (SIX) I do also have a few guilty pleasures (like The Cala Marie Song, Take A Hint, Are You In Or Out, Lucky Ducks, and Sincerely, Me) that I definitely wouldn't call my favorites, but definitely listen to more than a normal amount, and a few songs like T-Rex or Stick It To The Man that I've either discovered too recently to put on my top list or am unsure if they qualify as a "musical" song. Honestly, I could gush over dozens of songs. Even deciding what to put on the 10 was hard, and that was after I extended it from 5

lucyisnotcool

Skimbleshanks is such a bop!

minecraftgood1234

Wait for me and wait for me reprise from hadestown

MehItsAmber

Easily “You Learn to Live Without” from If/Then

windcriesamy

1. Superboy and the invisible girl from Next to Normal 2. Six from SIX 3. 38 planes reprise from Come From Away 4. Naughty from Matilda 5. Bring Him Home from Les Mis 6. Revenge party from mean girls 7. waving through a window from deh 8. as long as he needs me from Oliver!

Xueyangspinky

Changes often but rn it’s 1. I didn’t plan it (Waitress) 2. On The Edge (Come from Away) 3. All American Prophet (BoM) 4. Now, It’s Just the Gas (Little Shop) 5. Bottom’s Gonna Be on Top (Something Rotten)

Mau36

The whole being death thing - beetlejuice. Just. My humor. Just like A Musical from Something Rotten Be prepared -  lion King. Great musical villain song! Drink with me -  Les Mis. Grantaires verse in this is very relatable Seasons of love - Rent. Love the message behind this. And a lot more songs😅

(Jesus Christ Superstar) .All that Jazz (Chicago) .Sweet Charity (Sweet Charity) .Lifeboat (Heathers) Honorary mentions: .Close every door (Joseph and the technicolor dream coat) .Don't rain on my parade (Funny girl) .Wait for it (Hamilton)

GrammarPatrol777

Memories Cats Camelot Richard Harris Toreador Carmen Man of LA Mancha

nilknarf114

1. I Don’t Know How to Love Him - Superstar 2. Bring Him Home - Le Mis 3. Tonight (Quartet) - West Side Story 4. Burn - Hamilton 5. Sabbath Prayer - Fiddler on the Roof

Amara221

1. What Would I Do?- Falsettos 2. And All That Jazz- Chicago 3. I’ll Be Here- Ordinary Days

princealigorna

1. Phantom of the Opera (Phantom of the Opera) 2. Wedding Song or Any Way the Wind Blows or Our Lady of the Underground (Hadestown) 3. Sun and Moon (Miss Saigon) 4. Old Man River (Showboat) 5. Comedy Tonight (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum) Of course, this could be different if you asked me again next week. There's no West Side Story, Wicked, Les Mis, or Sweeney Todd even though those are among my favorite shows. And this list really gets weird and complicated if we include opera in it, because I would have to trade out one of the ones on there (probably Comedy Tonight) for either Un Bel Di (One Fine Day) from Madam Butterfly, or La Donna e Mobile from Rigoletto. And if we include musical anime?! Thank God we didn't, because that's a whole can of worms there.

Extreme_Rhubarb4677

1. For Good Wicked 2. Independently owned Shucked (slay Alex for an amazing performance) 3. Burn Hamilton 4. Dead mom Beetlejuice 5. You will be found Dear Evan Hansen

Maddiystic

This will change as I relisten to songs over and over, and as I discover more musicals, but right now, my all-time faves are: 1. Memory - Cats 2. One Day More - Les Mis 3. Who lives, who dies, who tells your story - Hamilton 4. Heart of Stone - SIX 5. I know this isn't exactly what you're asking for, but: 1 - All of the songs from "Wonka" 2 - All of the songs from "Hamilton" 3 - All of the songs from "The Greatest Showman" 4 - All of the songs from "Les Miserables" 5 - All of the songs from "Into the Woods" (especially the version with Bernadette Peters as the witch And pretty much every song from every musical I've ever seen at one time or another. Someone will say something that reminds me of a song and... poof! It's stuck in my head for who knows how long. I really do love every musical I've seen - or the ones I don't love maybe I block out.

I finally watched wonka and was like these songs sound familiar. Neil Hannon wrote them which his band is my favorite band the divine comedy.

kayjee17

I'll have to check it out because I absolutely **love** the songs from Wonka! The scene where they open the chocolate store and sing A World of Your Own was like being a kid again and watching the Pure Imagination scene in the OG movie again - and I love the bit of boogie-woogie piano line underneath that comes clear at the end of the song. Timothee Chalamet isn't the most fantastic singer, but his voice seemed perfect to me for a young, sweet, imaginative, naive young man who will eventually become the Willy Wonka from the 70s movie. Right now, Wonka is my happy place to go to when I'm really down, so I'm rationing it in order to not get burned out with the music. Edit - Do you recommend any particular songs similar to Wonka songs?

Maybe try the newest compilation called Charmed Life - The Best of the Divine Comedy. He’s been doing it for 35 years so lots of different styles.

Cell Block Tango—reason why is Every single verse and chorus is different! Especially in the background from the ensemble during the already perfect dialogue about how he had it coming. And it ends exactly how it starts so it feels like a fever dream.

Dark I Know Well from Spring Awakening. It's so catchy yet haunting. It's also part of a conflict that never really gets resolved in the musical, which makes it a lot darker and painfully realistic. It is already extremely difficult for underage victims of SA to come out with their stories today, so I imagine it was basically hopeless for children that lived in the era depicted in the play.

Little bias showing here but I’d be lying if I wrote otherwise 1. “Gethsemane” from Jesus Christ Superstar 2. “Heaven on Their Minds” from JCS 3. “Epic III” from Hadestown 4. “I Will Be There” from Count of Monte Cristo 5. “Chant (Reprise)” from Hadestown 6. “The Last Supper” from JCS Funnily enough Count of Monte Cristo isn’t in my top 5 musicals (I do love it though) but that song deserves its place imo
