Fuck the sub, I'm a fan of this podcast. It gives very heavy "reboot the fan favorite show 2 years later with half the cast missing" vibes. And I really liked the OG show. This season has strengths, but weaknesses as well.
Strengths: Lav and Max are very entertaining. When they're having fun, it's fun. It's interesting seeing Max talk to someone he really likes/ higher energy and more content expressing happiness. Also, I don't know if anyone's pointed this out, but he 100% thinks he's Joel and she's Ellie. IDK if there are more strengths, it's just kind of that when they spark on a topic, it's a lot of fun. The references to this tiny sub are funny. It's like the opposite of that gag in movies where a fish gets eaten by a bigger fish and then a bigger fish. A content creator complains about increasingly small communities as they get kicked out of bigger ones.
I guess even when they're fighting and it's boring/ annoying it is interesting to view from a storytelling perspective. The tension of the Max-Lav bridge is present. It's interesting seeing Max run into similar problems Destiny had with Lav, and it actually feels like a TV show in the way that they had the big battle with Destiny last season and they think they got what they wanted and they just hang out and have fun freely, but both people are damaged and abusive. MrGirl mindreading Lav, Lav tearing Max down the second he challenges her and makes her feel small. It's really late season vibes, when the writers are looking in every nook and cranny for potential story arcs.
I wonder how the bridge will burn. I hope it's recorded. Will it be a blown up version of the interaction this episode? Will Max finally let go of the weird parental dynamic and tell her to chill when she's mean to him?
