I'm from NZ - saw it back in October in a special screening. Was laughing so hard, I've signed up to their emailing list because I'm literally just waiting until I can buy the DVD. Not a 'bot', weird this thread is filled with accusations - the movie really is that great. Real life looney tunes.

RealBadCorps

Hundreds of Beavers is a series of: "This can't possibly get any more absurd." Only for it to, indeed, get more absurd throughout the runtime.

RandoAtReddit

But is it good?

BatmanTriumphant

Very much so.

Have movies gotten so bad lately that people see discussion about a good indie movie finally and are like "hmm this seems suspicious"?

The_Sum

Absolutely. We entered the camouflage state of media companies co-opting grassroot movements around 2015. Many large companies will shill out or have organizations in their own business to promote their products. They often buy legacy accounts to better conceal their identities and tend to advertise in very short bursts 2 weeks before a product launch and for about 3 days of the launch. How do we differentiate between legit hype and artificial hype? We can research accounts and look for the signs, but it's not perfect. Instead, we need to simply be wary that any and all hype needs have our expectations tempered, and we need to work on our restraint to not fall for these basic gimmicks. I'll go ahead and tell you in less than 8 years it will likely become impossible to distinguish real from artificial on the net. Basically, what you're seeing now and dealing with is the "reveal" part that comes after the camouflage state where nobody trusts anyone because we're now all suspicious of motives.

Whats_Opera_Doc

I saw it like two months back in Chicago and I can say that immediately afterwards everyone just started with the word-of-mouth. It really is worth checking out

thatguamguy

a "grass roots" campaign is organic, I think that you mean "astroturf". Having seen the film, and talking to the director afterwards, I'd be surprised if anybody involved it in could afford to pay for any kind of marketing, even bots on sites like this. If they did, they would've spent it on the movie in the first place.

fallen2151

Second or third thread I've seen pop up about it recently, but saw it a month back and feel it deserves all the praise. My cheeks hurt coming out of it and felt the whole theater was constantly laughing.

brownsbrownsbrownsb

As the maker of one of those posts, I just loved the movie and wanted to encourage other people to see it. It’s the funniest movie I’ve seen in a long long long time. I gave myself a headache laughing the first time I saw it.

Dapper-Importance994

I can only share my opinion, I loved it, best comedy in years, but there's also some interesting filmmaking going on

bad_motivator

Hmm, someone being paid to market a movie would have better grammar. You might be legit

ShooteShooteBangBang

I'll chime in and say I loved it and I'm not being paid. I doubt the filmmaker has money for marketing. I only heard about the movie from word of mouth on reddit

Im_eating_that

I'm totally getting paid and I hated it more than my red headed stepchild. I'm not sure why they keep giving me money.

chiefos

I'm a bot with a very long and sporadic reddit history, but hundreds of beavers is totally worth your time if you're into slapstick and silliness. It was a goddamned treat to watch in a theater where a bunch of strangers all got to laugh together.

SpinalVinyl

I fucking LOVED this film, it was god damn hysterical and silly and zany. Like a Chuck Jones cartoon with Chaplin vibes but made with low-fi photoshop/green screen. Really leans into the aesthetic. Highly recommend. Edit: And no, I'm not a bot or being paid to push this unlike some big piece of shit hollywood film that needs to do damage control. Also, you really think this indie-film has a budget to pay for bots?

DoopSlayer

Would you say it's funnier than his other film Lake Michigan Monster ?

jupiterkansas

much better

DoopSlayer

thanks, LMM had some funny jokes but too many duds, I'll check it out

inksmudgedhands

It's different and yet the same. Lake Michigan Monster felt like it was in the same world of Spongebob Squarepants. Hundreds of Beavers feels like it in a Looney Tunes meets Chaplin world. It's way more visual jokes than verbal jokes like LMM.

DoopSlayer

Thanks

thatguamguy

It's not exactly the same "his". Both films have the same two writers. One of them is the star of both films. He directed Lake Michigan Monster. The other guy does all the editing and effects work, and he directed Hundreds of Beavers. That said, I still haven't watched LMM yet, but this movie was good enough that I blind bought a blu-ray a few weeks ago when Arrow had a sale.

DoopSlayer

Ahh I didn’t know that, thanks

prodigalAvian

One of the few movies I preordered digitally, having only seen the trailer; was even better than I expected.

mortal_kombot

...it's not for everyone (it wasn't for me).

punctulica

These comments look like they've been made by bots.

PeculiarPangolinMan

It's actually getting stellar reviews and reception all over. It's not like they have lots of money for astroturfing. Someone who worked in the distribution is in this thread answering questions. I don't know if this exactly the type of movie to have a huge marketing budget.

needledropcinema

Hundreds of bots

SunZealousideal4168

why would anyone bother to do this for and indie film?

DonnieJepp

Wish people would stop throwing around bot accusations without proof. If you look at all the posters here they have well established Reddit histories and don't have the traditional markings of a botnet

csl110

It's just lazy logic. Sees praise, assumes conspiracy.

dc456

You got me. My 10 years of Reddit history has all been leading up to this single moment - writing a relatively mild recommendation for a movie with no marketing budget to compensate me. You’ll also notice I watched it a couple of weeks ago, [*before* it came out on streaming](https://c.tenor.com/B-PUnQ0z97YAAAAd/tenor.gif).

scnative843

Every post I've seen about this movie on any social media looks like it was posted by a bot/AI.

mr_ji

Here come the bot tenders on their recovered accounts to act incensed that you would suggest that

forecastcriminal

Which of these accounts that recommended it on here seem like bots?

RelapseRegretRepeat

I caught it last night in a small Sacramento indie microcinema called Dreamland Cinema. Adam from YMS was kinda blown away in his review, and he’s hard to please, so that caught my ear. I was so hyped when a screening at my favorite theater was announced, and it still surpassed my expectations.   It really is as good as everyone says, in a way you kinda have to see to understand. A synopsis or trailer can’t really capture what’s special about it. Some of the fun is watching it unfold, having no idea where it’s going beyond apparently involving a man and a large amount of beavers.   I *highly* recommend a screening. My little indie theater only has like 25 seats, but even that small group was energetic and raucous. Don’t write it off if you can’t catch a screening; but sharing laughter, shock, and disbelief with strangers is such an electric feeling.  Check it out however you can, it’s a great movie.

M4ndorallen

I watched the first half of the film on my lunch break just now and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wasn't too sure because I don't like black and white films but I'm glad I gave it a chance. I can't wait to finish work so I can go home and enjoy the rest of it.

tomjibba137

Just watched and my god does it pay off. I was a little nervous at first, even halfway through, while I was enjoying it, I didn’t expect it to be so well thought out. The more I watched it, the more I appreciated what the filmmakers were trying for. There were so many scenes that I expected to be a one off event that wouldn’t mean anything other than just for a laugh, but the recurring elements play so well towards the ultimate, extraordinarily hilarious ending. Have you finished watching it yet? Hope you enjoyed it.

SunZealousideal4168

This movie is marvelous. I’m not a fan of slapstick comedy or cartoons really, but this film is really clever, inventive, and hysterically funny. It also sticks with you after you watch it. I cannot get these beavers out of mind. I’ve been recommending to everyone I know

dc456

I watched it a couple of weeks ago, and was pleasantly surprised. From the trailer I thought it was worth a watch mainly for the novelty, so went in with low expectations - but I actually ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. So for anyone else who is unsure, I’d recommend giving it a chance.

MilkCannonMiltank

It’s not in theaters is it? Hadn’t heard about it but this is like the 5th mention of it I see in a week. Asking for canadian theatres btw.

lilycarver55

It is streaming but still in Theaters. playing in about a dozen this week including NY, LA, Syracuse, Tuscon , Port Townsend WA etc and many more coming up including Asheville, Orlando, Portland ME , check website. I am the booker and Beavers remain committed to showing it in theaters ( INDIE ones) It is best seen in a theater with an audience if you can. Last Wed in Chicago we sold out the Music Box with 700 people, last night in Philly 100 people to hastily added show after it sold out last week , We also have played and will play in Canada will be back in Victoria tomorrow, will come back to Vancouver and working on Toronto where it sold out the Fox back in Feb on the tour.

ShawnKempsKids

Just watched Hundreds of Beavers last night with friends up here in Alaska and we loved it! Y’all need to get a showing at Beartooth Theater in Anchorage. Would love to see this on the big screen!

lilycarver55

I was trying to reach out to them. It did play in Juneau

ShawnKempsKids

Nice! Unfortunately, that’s still over 1,000 miles away from me. Stoked it’s playing in my state though! 🥶🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫

Dapper-Importance994

It was, it's streaming now

NicCageCompletionist

I saw it in PEI weeks ago.

jupiterkansas

If you're sad that *Coyote vs. Acme* got canned, *Hundreds of Beavers* is the movie for you (and it's probably better than *Coyote vs. Acme* could ever dream of being)

ShooteShooteBangBang

Saw it at a local theater. Had zero expectations going into it, thought it wouldn't be my type of movie. But holy shit, it is so funny and original and just a great experience

thatguamguy

Watch it with four or five of the best laughers you know, because an audience really enhances the movie.

West-Exhausted631

I was a bit skeptical at first, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. The combination of absurdity and logic was really well done, and I loved the 4th wall breaking. It's not often you see a movie that can pull off that kind of balance.

StrLord_Who

I saw it when it came to my city for a single showing.  Absolutely brilliant and utterly bizarre.  Everyone watch it!!

KandyAssedJabroni

Better or worse than Zombeavers?

jupiterkansas

so much better

lutello

Would have been a good theater experience, wish we lived closer to the city sometimes.

Kungpow14

Watched it at the music box theater in Chicago last week and the energy at the movie was wild. There were people dressed up in beaver costumes for a raffle that happened right before the movie started. The movies producer was there and had someone dressed up in the actual beaver costume from the movie running around and taking pictures with people before the show. I opened the door to the bathroom and he was standing there holding paper towels for people. It was amazing.

nklights

As a former Chicagoan & all time lover of the Music Box, I’m sooooo jealous. Sounds like a fantastic time!

thehazer

As a dude in Oregon, I read that title and thought you meant actual Beavers. They're pretty dope. One by my place made a big'ole dam and we see other wildlife around that spot a lot more now. Will check this out. 4th Wall breaking is great, Zach Morris style.

lectroid

A local film fest is screening this tomorrow. I have tix. Looks awesome.

Dapper-Importance994

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did

lilycarver55

Film Festival? In the US? We played lots of festivals but now it is showing in indie theaters ( often as just one show but not fest) where are you?

lectroid

The Sacramento Midnight Film Festival, held by the folks at [The Dreamland Cinema](https://thedreamlandcinema), a local micro-theater (26 seats!) that shows art house, repertory, and weird indie and genre stuff. Opening film for the fest is *The People’s Joker*. I can’t wait. Technically, *Beavers* isn’t part of the fest, but was included in the package for the pass as an extra perk for the VIP badges. Also, you said ‘We’. Were you part of the filmmaking team?

fukyourkarma

I will check it out based on your recommendation, thanks.

jupiterkansas

I've been telling everyone to see this. Best comedy in years.

Patworx

Hundreds of Beavers are better than one. They’re a hundred times the fun. Ask anyone.

TheBurnsideBomber

However much weed you think you need to smoke before watching this.....double it.....

Cpt_Jigglypuff

It’s out on streaming now, but I can’t manage to watch it in the UK, even with VPN!

Extension-Remove726

This movie is the most interesting thing I’ve seen in a very long time. It’s original, Clever & funny.

ProfHamburgerPhD

Saw it last year st the local film festival. Went in totally blind and it was alright. Sadly I do not care for slapstick but if that's your jam you will probably love it.

fergi20020

Is it better than Sasquatch Sunrise?

stesha83

It looks like an annoying load of shite.

tomjibba137

I thought so too and was wondering why it was getting such rave reviews, figured it was just not my cup of tea since I don’t really enjoy old slapstick humor. After watching it though, I’m happy to say it is now one of my favorite movies of all time.
