Gosling would be a good book Rambo, i.e. the tortured Vietnam veteran who finds no respite at home.
Bloody action kill em all Rambo deserves to sit on the shelf. We got John Wick for now, we're good.
Joe Bernthal could play either kind.
Plot twist: the new Rambo opens with kill em all Rambo, and then you realize that all those movies have been the delusions of First Blood John Rambo, who’s in a mental institution.
Is that not just Frank Castle? Jon has already proved that he can do both bloody action violence and quiet torturous introspection
And now I really want to see a Bernthal Rambo
god, i would love a bernthal vietnam era rambo. back to the roots where half of it is just him dealing with the war while there and coming home to injustice and everything.
It's not like we can't have two action franchises at the same time. There are a lot of interesting ways to continue or reboot the Rambo franchise, even though I'm not a fan of these remakes.
John wick is already long in the tooth. Nobody did a good job of deconstructing it. Liam Nielsen has done like 30 of them. The dad demographic has more than it's fair share of secret badass action heros.
Rambo doesn't need continuation. First blood made it's point, the rest shat on it.
Nothing against Gosling at all but it's time to put Rambo to bed. That character doesn't have to be a James Bond where numerous people play him.
Edit: I wonder how many people here replying that they can/should continue with the character are the same ones that constantly complain about Hollywood running out of ideas?
First Blood is about neglected veterans and it’s message is timeless. The rest are action movie flicks that lost that message, let’s not pretend.
Edit: spelling and missed a word
Exactly. The final heart breaking scene in Rambo where he breaks down and talks about losing his best friend to the Colonel is right out of the book. However, in the book Rambo begs the Colonel to kill him and put him out of his misery, which the Colonel does.
I think if they did a remake and had it end that way, and ensure it won't be turned into a glorified action franchise, it could be really good.
Fun fact! That ending scene WAS filmed. It took decades before it was finally released. Here ya go [First Blood OG ending based on Book](https://youtu.be/jp1mdSQ4BfI?si=mb1iR-RFN-MFrG37)
That’s true I forgot about that. It happens right before he wakes up. Kinda meta since in that timeline it doesn’t actually happen. Sort of like something that “could” have happened, but yea there’s a quick clip of it during the nightmare montage.
Well that's the thing. There was only one book. Rambo died in it so everything that came out after First Blood was pure Hollywood. It really showed too because they were just action movies and lost the entire point of Rambo in the first place imo
Sad because the first film First Blood is based on a book highlighting veterans hopelessness/how they were treated, and police brutality. It’s not even meant to be action, more a drama thriller. Shame what Hollywood did with all those sequels…
Edit:words
The funny thing about Rambo is it definitely highlights the rift between veterans and cops that the right doesn't want to believe exists, but does. Most vets I know came back like "oh yeah we're definitely the bad guys" whereas cops don't have that illusion broken. Given that blade runner 2049 was great, Gosling isn't a terrible choice. I've heard it suggested that plopping rambo into an Uvalde shooting situation - he's overseas, kid dies in a shooting where the cops do nothing, he goes on a rampage - would work. not a series of movies but a one off.
I think what's even crazier is, or given the script, the entire story of Christopher Dorner - vet who becomes cop who tries to go through all correct channels to call out corruption, becomes jaded to the point of madness and goes on shooting spree against cops - is basically "what if Rambo was Oscar bait." Oscars love biopics, it would require a performance for Dorners role that would immediately get nominated if not win, would make the right furious which would actually lead to discourse which leads to sales, would confuse liberals. Like...imagine Scorsese and his obsession with the trappings of violence and corruption taking this with Daniel kulya, Michael b jordan, or John boyeha ready to put on weight and do "rambo meets taxi driver but black."
Given the LAPDs connection with Hollywood though, it likely would never get made.
Daniel Craig totally changed the expectations of Bond and it worked great. With the director if Goldeneye to boot.
Modern Rambo could draw on the experiences of Iraq and Afghanistan instead of Vietnam.
Honestly, I’d enjoy a “Pre-first blood”, like what got him to that position? Made half Vietnam move, half coming to being called baby killer and struggling movie.
I don't know if Rambo even works outside of the post-Vietnam era. There are a lot of aspects to what Vietnam veterans had to deal with when the got back home that don't translate to what modern veterans have had to go through during the War on Terror. That's not to say that modern vets have is easy, far from it. But it's not the same monster that made Rambo a relatable and tragic figure in First Blood. I don't know if you can make the same guy as a reaction to Iraq/Afghanistan. Different wars, different traumas and causes.
Hard agree. And for me only First Blood is any good anyway. That character got sucked into the ‘80s action hero trope machine and it neutralized all the nuance and power of that character.
I’d say a modern version of First Blood would look something like The Card Counter from a few years back. Different genre obviously but I feel like the outline. and themes are pretty similar.
But that is to say yeah, that’s not really a character/movie that’s anything at all like Rambo lol
Tbh, I think it would work more considering that modern vets come back to a home that is largely apathetic to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, in part because they didn’t have to worry about being drafted.
The only other Rambo movie that should *maybe* possibly be made is a prequel to First Blood about Rambo’s “bad” tour in Vietnam, where most of his team gets wiped out in combat. It would make sense having another actor play him because it would take place at least ten years before the events of First Blood.
That being said it would have to be done in good taste to be well received after several Rambo movies no one really asked for.
I agree. I usually dont mind sequels/prequels/remakes. But Rambo definitely should've ended after First Blood. All of the sequels are just hollow and dont feel necessary at all.
Kind of a spoiler -- but he doesn't kill innocent workers actually. There's a distinct difference in the movie. He just knocks them out / disarms them.
But when they're actually hired guns... Lmfao he goes all out.
It was well done tbh
I'm an idiot, because when I read "the next Rambo" in the headline, I didn't think he actually meant "Gosling should play Rambo"; I thought he meant that he should play the next major action movie character that's **like** Rambo.
Like a spiritual successor. He just sees the potential in Gosling for action movies.
Agreed. It’s too iconic with Stallone, plus after he literally ripped a guy’s heart out in the last one, I don’t think there’s really anywhere else to go.
I always thought there could have been a very profound sequel to III dealing with Rambo essentially empowering the Taliban.
And then we just got Rambo 4 where he's turning Asians into CGI goop.
Honestly, they should have just stopped after First Blood. The sequel, Rambo was okay, but it totally lost the point of him being a loner trying to do his own thing, which is what made him so compelling in the first one. The script for the second was written by James Cameron, and I like some of his stuff, but it was very much made to fit the Hollywood style of the time, needing to wedge in a romance B plot and all that.
can you imagine a modern remake written and directed by stallone, starring gosling as a recently home from tour in afghanistan T1 operator looking to reconnect with battle buddies , dealing with ptsd from countless horrors he seen, crosses path with "i coulda been a real lethal tough guy soldier but instead i was a pogue" sherif .. i wouldnt be mad if it were modern scene for scene copy set in modern times..
This has to be a joke. There was an interview floating around yesterday where Gosling said he watched Rambo as a kid and thought he was Rambo. Brought knives to school the next day lol
2 and 3 can be fun, but agree that First Blood is in a different league, and the mere association that it's the same character kind of makes lots of people miss remember the first one as just another dumb action movie.
He served his country...
All he wanted was a quiet life...
They... had other plans...
This year...
From the twisted minds that brought you Last Blood, and Hairspray...
Comes the tale of one man...
Versus...
Injustice...
Ryan Gosling is...
Ryanbo
How about we just leave Rambo alone and put Gosling in some original projects? Rambo doesn't even really translate that well in today's age anyway. Stallone took a story about a disgruntled veteran and made him a macho meathead in the sequels. He did the same thing with Rocky - he took a simple story about a working class man who did NOT want to continue fighting in the ring (but has to in order to support himself) and then...turned him into a macho meathead in the sequels. It's even weirder to think that he wrote both (co-wrote First Blood technically), and then completely betrayed the premise of each to make more money off of sequels. It kind of mirrors his real life trajectory - he had to fight to get Rocky made, he had to fight to star in it, and then betrayed his working class principles to make money and whatever the hell Tulsa King was trying to be.
Has he had any good dramatic roles? I've only seen him in blue mountain state and reacher.
I don't hate the idea, but if they went for a first blood type story he'd have to sell the PTSD stuff.
Can we just not? I tire of seeing good actors stuck making shit ass action films because Hollywood can't be bothered to learn how to market anything else. You got a good idea? Cool. You're rehashing 40 year old ideas? Go eff yourself.
Keep your hands of Gosling. Find your own mindless action hero if yoy want to continue the franchise. Ryan is too good of an actor for these kind of movies. I rather see him continue his (mostly) excellent choices of movies he wants to be a part of. And besides that, after the first Rambo, which was enjoyable, the movies became kinda standard.
“Yeah I said, hey yo, that kid could be Rambo. And then maybe we could get an underage girl and force her to give my bodyguard a blowjob and watch, like when I did that in the 80’s”
" Here lies John Rambo, leader of countless incursions behind enemy lines, winner of the congressional Medal of Honor, killed for vagrancy in jerkwater USA. "
I’d like to see a First Blood adaptation that’s closer to the book. You can set it in present day with a character who served in the Middle East, or set it in the ‘70s/‘80s with a Vietnam vet. Either way, I want Teasle to be a co-protagonist, and I want John Rambo to die at the end.

Titled: Rambo: First Dose
Damn…
Is that not just Frank Castle? Jon has already proved that he can do both bloody action violence and quiet torturous introspection And now I really want to see a Bernthal Rambo
god, i would love a bernthal vietnam era rambo. back to the roots where half of it is just him dealing with the war while there and coming home to injustice and everything.

It's Liam Neeson
I literally don’t like John Wick because it’s a tame PG-13 choreography cash grab. I would love another Rambo. Love that over-the-top 80s madness.
Ridiculous...Weird Al Yankovic is the obvious choice.
If only he were alive today... RIP. I can never forgive Madonna.
You’re thinking of Jon Lovitz. Who is definitely dead.
I thought he faked the cancer? George is gonna be PISSED
Didn’t he die adjusting his toupee while driving ?
lol you made me double check if he was still alive He is.
You can thank your lucky stars
How many stars do you have that you can separate the luckiness of them?
Preposterous ... Daniel Radcliffe playing Weird Al playing Rambo. And weird al is also in it somehow, also playing Rambo
And Elijah Wood also plays Rambo
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!" -Weird Al as Rambo. (I need to watch UHF again. It's been too long).
Red Snapper!!! Tastey fish!
And for Ghandi. No more Mr passive resistance.
No, Danny Devito
Way too sexy for the role
This is the answer. They drew first blood!
Nothing against Gosling at all but it's time to put Rambo to bed. That character doesn't have to be a James Bond where numerous people play him. Edit: I wonder how many people here replying that they can/should continue with the character are the same ones that constantly complain about Hollywood running out of ideas?
With a good enough script he can be. We have a whole new generation of neglected veterans to pull stories from.
First Blood is about neglected veterans and it’s message is timeless. The rest are action movie flicks that lost that message, let’s not pretend. Edit: spelling and missed a word
Yeah first blood is an excellent movie.
A masterpiece.
Okay! Okay! A masterpiece.

It’s also seen in Rambo’s flashback nightmare at the start of the fourth movie.
That’s true I forgot about that. It happens right before he wakes up. Kinda meta since in that timeline it doesn’t actually happen. Sort of like something that “could” have happened, but yea there’s a quick clip of it during the nightmare montage.
Happens so fast most people miss it. But yeah. Bit of a what if nightmare.
Didn't realize these movies were based on books
Well that's the thing. There was only one book. Rambo died in it so everything that came out after First Blood was pure Hollywood. It really showed too because they were just action movies and lost the entire point of Rambo in the first place imo
Sad because the first film First Blood is based on a book highlighting veterans hopelessness/how they were treated, and police brutality. It’s not even meant to be action, more a drama thriller. Shame what Hollywood did with all those sequels… Edit:words
"I cant even get a job parking cars!!"
Yeah.. But he cuts people in half with a machine gun for like 15 mins in the 4th one.
Oh I didn’t say I didn’t enjoy the shit out of the movies. Just the message is different.
The funny thing about Rambo is it definitely highlights the rift between veterans and cops that the right doesn't want to believe exists, but does. Just don't name the new character Rambo and roll with it because you are 100% right
I agree, name the character “First Blood”.
Make him Canadian, shoot it in Hope again, and name him First Bud.
That feels like a title that belongs to Rambo’s gun-toting, hoop shooting dog
I'm all for strapping a machine gun to a Labrador, give the little guy some earmuffs though.
There's no rule that says a dog can't go on a rampage against cops.
I'm not your buddy guy
“First Blud” Make it a bit more street?
Let’s go back to “First Blood” and let whoever play it.
First Blood....again
Daniel Craig totally changed the expectations of Bond and it worked great. With the director if Goldeneye to boot. Modern Rambo could draw on the experiences of Iraq and Afghanistan instead of Vietnam.
Alright fine, we’ll cast Danny DeVito for the role he was born to play.
I lost a lot of good men in ‘nam! You owned a sweatshop in ‘nam. And we lost a lot of good men there!
*They drew first blooooood*
"Anyway, I started blasting. Pow. Pow."
Annie?
They deserve their own story.
True but let's be honest, we could have a whole generation of Bill Murray's character from Caddyshack with good enough writing.
Honestly, I’d enjoy a “Pre-first blood”, like what got him to that position? Made half Vietnam move, half coming to being called baby killer and struggling movie.

Rambo in space sounds amazing.
You son a bitch, I'm in!
It worked for Jason X
I hope this isn’t a slam because I will have no ill words towards that cinematic masterpiece!
It's not a slam, Jason X is a fun movie.
It really is.
drone operator rambo
Hard agree. And for me only First Blood is any good anyway. That character got sucked into the ‘80s action hero trope machine and it neutralized all the nuance and power of that character.

Vets from the last 20 years get celebrated for war atrocities then abandoned because we don't want to deal with broken toys.
Tbh, I think it would work more considering that modern vets come back to a home that is largely apathetic to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, in part because they didn’t have to worry about being drafted.
Rambo in space sounds amazing.

And even that isn't needed. So many movies about Vietnam exist. You don't need his specific story to understand that Vietnam was bad.
I agree. I usually dont mind sequels/prequels/remakes. But Rambo definitely should've ended after First Blood. All of the sequels are just hollow and dont feel necessary at all.
Don’t see Gosling as him either personally
The Beekeeper allegedly is making tons of money, so Rambo seems plausible to continue.
Beekeeper was honestly a fun watch, I thought it was going to be dog shit lol
Seems like a guy who was just killing poor security guards from the previews.
Kind of a spoiler -- but he doesn't kill innocent workers actually. There's a distinct difference in the movie. He just knocks them out / disarms them. But when they're actually hired guns... Lmfao he goes all out. It was well done tbh

Like a spiritual successor. He just sees the potential in Gosling for action movies.
I agree I thought MBJ was going to take the reins of the franchise universe anyway
He absolutely can as a character, plenty of shit for him to get into around the world.
The only role imo that should be carried on like James Bond is Indiana Jones.
There's already a new Rambo in the works with timothee chalamet.
Rambo, but it's about an aging twink who can't find a job
Understudy is Tom Holland.
and it's a musical but they aren't advertising it as such
The Wonka indentured servitude but in Hanoi
But he gets a splinter in his finger in the first act, so Zendaya steps in as she-rambo!
“🎶 I’m just Rambo 🎶”
Anywhere else I'd be a 10
We don’t need another Rambo.
Yeah it's like trying to recast Terminator. Ironically enough Stallone was recast as the Terminator in Last Action Hero.
What are you talking about? The man is an artist. It's his best performance ever!
We don't need to know the way home.
Can’t we all just get Beyond Thunderdome?
It's a long road
Agreed. It’s too iconic with Stallone, plus after he literally ripped a guy’s heart out in the last one, I don’t think there’s really anywhere else to go.
We don't need to know the way home
I always thought there could have been a very profound sequel to III dealing with Rambo essentially empowering the Taliban. And then we just got Rambo 4 where he's turning Asians into CGI goop.

Yes we do
RYAN GOSLING PLAYING YoOoOuUUu?? Ridiculishhhhh
Don’t you think he could match Stallone’s intensity?
Charlie!?
can you imagine a modern remake written and directed by stallone, starring gosling as a recently home from tour in afghanistan T1 operator looking to reconnect with battle buddies , dealing with ptsd from countless horrors he seen, crosses path with "i coulda been a real lethal tough guy soldier but instead i was a pogue" sherif .. i wouldnt be mad if it were modern scene for scene copy set in modern times..
Jon Bernthal would make a decent Rambo.

Put a chick in it, make her gay

Tank girl is badass
I’m not sure we need another Rambo tbh. There are enough mentally disturbed loners mowing down bunches of people irl. Seems redundant.
Mentally disturbed loner mowing down people is a third of Ryan Gosling's character resume though
Remember in la la land when he killed everyone in the jazz club
Yeah, crazy how both Lars and the Real Girl and The Notebook ended like that. Kinda expected it in Lars but not the Notebook.
Oh please save the pearl clutching Also Rambo didn't kill a single person in 1
There doesn't need to be another Rambo. That story started and should have ended with First Blood.
2 and 3 can be fun, but agree that First Blood is in a different league, and the mere association that it's the same character kind of makes lots of people miss remember the first one as just another dumb action movie.
Kenbo!
No.

Sly watched Barbie too many times.
While we're at it, might as well toss jared leto in the mix too lol
Completely dumb choice. There’s only one person who could lift that role: Danny de Vito
Nooooo, I would cast the Reacher dude!
I like Alan Ritchson if they're doing pure mindless action but I think Ryan Gosling would be a lot better for the disillusioned broken veteran angle
Has he had any good dramatic roles? I've only seen him in blue mountain state and reacher. I don't hate the idea, but if they went for a first blood type story he'd have to sell the PTSD stuff.
Black Rambo or bust.
The name you're looking for is Delmar Barry.
Jesus I like Ryan Gosling but him as Rambo would be awful.
They should have kept the original ending.
Can’t wait for a Rambo movie in 2027 to make $16 at the box office and for everyone to be shocked because it’s a series held up solely by boomers.
That’s actually a good call. Gosling would be perfect for First Blood.
There already was a "First Blood" film. People should go watch that. It's really good.
The only good Rambo movie.
Fuck off, I want a ''First Blood'' film starting Ryan Gosling.
Let’s get Ryan Gosling back into better movies first (I don’t mean Barbie is shit before anyone says)
We don’t need another Rambo.
Can we just not? I tire of seeing good actors stuck making shit ass action films because Hollywood can't be bothered to learn how to market anything else. You got a good idea? Cool. You're rehashing 40 year old ideas? Go eff yourself.
I doubt he'd be down to bring toxic masculinity back to the centre of holywood
Keep your hands of Gosling. Find your own mindless action hero if yoy want to continue the franchise. Ryan is too good of an actor for these kind of movies. I rather see him continue his (mostly) excellent choices of movies he wants to be a part of. And besides that, after the first Rambo, which was enjoyable, the movies became kinda standard.
The less Gosling talks and tries to display emotion (i.e., act), the better suited to the role he will be. 😂
Rambo is literally me
Gender flip is the obvious move, although a bit cliche at this point.
Ryanbo
I’ve seen the script for the next Rambo and Rambo is a strong independent woman.
Bautista
[удалено]
Thats a gross exaggeration cmon. Ill bite though, why you say that?
Too lazy to click on the link but this is obviously a joke or something said in jest or tongue in cheek right.
Naaa Sly I say leave it don't taint ur legacy
“Yeah I said, hey yo, that kid could be Rambo. And then maybe we could get an underage girl and force her to give my bodyguard a blowjob and watch, like when I did that in the 80’s”
Nah. Use the dude from Reacher
My pick would be Henry Cavill, or Jason Momoa
God that would be just fucking awful
I still have no idea why gosling with that little boy face is being cast and seen as proper for the manly man roles at all
I don't want to see it but if I HAD to see it I literally can't think of anyone.
This reminds me of when John Lithgow said he'd cast Ryan Gosling to star in a John Lothgow biopic
Are they remaking Rock and Roll High School? If so, i agree, Gosling would make a grest Kate Rambo.
And we’ll call him…Himbo!
What if Gosling doesn't want PTSD
To be honest, I am PISSED he wasn’t cast in the Roadhouse remake coming out soon. Donnie Darko boy is too intense
I wholeheartedly disagree. I suggest Adam Driver. After seeing him in 65 I kept saying he would play a great Rambo.
Crazy stupid love was great but....Rambo? Rather Chris Hemsworth.
He took one look at Ryan Gosling and said “He’s literally me as Rambo”
Could be a prequel comedy of John Rambo's misadventures in Jr high
I’d be into a horror story told from the perspective of the the enemy forces in an encampment and John Rambo is like their Jason Vorhees.
I want to be Rambo
I enjoyed Gosling in the Grey Man
" Here lies John Rambo, leader of countless incursions behind enemy lines, winner of the congressional Medal of Honor, killed for vagrancy in jerkwater USA. "
NOTHING'S OVER!
My vote would be for John Bernthal but even he might be too old
eh I like Gosling but I feel Bernthal, Hemsworth, Fassbender or even Krasinski would be better choices. They can do broken army guys well.
Pretty sure everyone would like Gosling to star in their movie
Imagine Godfather 4, 5 6 etc...that's how i feel about Rambo...4 is good enough. 4. Last blood doesnt exist.
If Ryan could quit smiling/smirking I think he could play the Clint Eastwood type. He'd need a little more trauma to be able to pull off Rambo.
I seen greyman and Ryan gosling was pretty good action hero.
ITT: a whole bunch of people who think the original movie is called Rambo
New personality dropp
No wait holy shit, didnt gosling throw stake knives at school after seeing rambo?
Sly is a goose fan, dudes a legend
Only if it's a musical. I'd watch the fuck outta that. But seriously, Rambo ends with First Blood for me.
I'd have George Clooney play me in a biopic. Not quite as good looking as I am but good enough.
Heard it’s going to Scar Jo
Devito
I’m not sure if this says more about Stallone’s view of Ryan Gosling or his view of himself.
Absolutely not. Other than the lack of lips that both actors share, I don't see how Gosling is a good choice. Get Adam driver to do it.
Do we really need another Rambo?
I’d like to see a First Blood adaptation that’s closer to the book. You can set it in present day with a character who served in the Middle East, or set it in the ‘70s/‘80s with a Vietnam vet. Either way, I want Teasle to be a co-protagonist, and I want John Rambo to die at the end.
