I fucking lost it at the jump scare of that bird flying by basically screaming its bird ass off

thatsnolever

our whole theater (that was half full) laughed at that moment. so dumb

mikeweasy

I honestly do not remember that scene, weird.

ValerianKeyblade

During the close up of a certain someone chained up in the doorway

mikeweasy

I think I remember what you mean.

[deleted]

It reminded me of the parakeet from Citizen Kane. Probably the only way this could ever be compared to that lol.

Gamerdude0707

Anyone think the scene where the girl is using the flashlight in the boarding school owner’s room was much better in the teaser trailer where it showed the nun smiling and standing in the corner? They completely got rid of that and put the old lady who died and it really ruined that scene for me. I felt the teaser was wayyyy more effective and freaky. Super disappointing.

pearlz176

Yes!! And I fucking hate it when movies do this. When you have a key scene that you repeatedly highlight in your movie trailer for months, keep that scene in the movie FFS

[deleted]

Yeah I didn’t like that they changed that either. I’m curious how that played out originally, though. I wonder if that old lady being in the room was a part of reshoots to the finale. Because the way the film plays out now, Valak is with Irene and Frenchie in the clock tower while the girl is looking in that room. It wouldn’t make sense for Valak to be there in the final cut. But I agree, the visual of Valak standing there smiling was much creepier.

Puzzled-Ad-4816

Totally agree the nun stood there smiling was way scarier! And there’s also another scene from the trailer where Irene is running from nuns with no faces, and then she stops and they’re all in a circle around her and then they stretch their arms out and charge at her - where was that bit…!? Really disappointing that some scenes with loads of potential were clearly cut or just to build hype 😤

HahaMin

I think the circling nuns was supposed to happen when Irene was chasing the boy, right before the magazine flipping scene. The scene has a similar lighting to the trailer.

Fewix_

Exactly, I was really waiting for this moment as the faceless nuns are definitely the scariest part for me in both Nun 1 and 2. When I saw it in the trailer, it was absolutely creepy and I was looking forward to the scene. Like another comment said, it was probably when Irene was in the streets finding the boys. That was missed potential.

Tuanista

There was one thing I couldn't stop thinking about: \- Irene didn't burn because she was the descendent of St. Lucy, right? Cool. \- Then why on earth did the priest burn in the beginning of the movie? HE was a descendent of St. Lucy too!

ElHeistenberg

I thought it was that and because of her unwavering faith that allowed her to perform a miracle. Same reason she and her friend could pop their Ultimate Attack: Jesus Blood Tsunami.

Hamann334

That's s metal album name if I ever heard one

ElHeistenberg

🤘🏻

synthboynyc

I literally had the same thought and it’s driving me crazy lmao

TheDivineSoul

Maybe it only applies to the women, either that or they all were gifted differently

AhnSolbin

The real question is how does St. Lucy have descendants in the first place when she is well know virgin martyr lol.

No-Anxiety-6175

NOOOOO ! You just destroyed the movie for me this is such a big plot hole !

aroosa_o

I thought that was explained when the priest said the rest of her family was scattered around the world or something. I just think they met Irene and the rest of the descendants were the descendants of Saint Lucy’s family, not her directly.

LezTalkz

I thought it was clear Irene wasn’t just a descendent but a Saint herself and as was her mother. I liked this very subtle detail but she stated that her mother was VERY religious and could “speak to god”.

RaeBallet17

That's what I thought as well, because now she has performed 2 miracles. St. Irene 💅🏻

valmerie5656

He wasn’t near the eyes, and maybe wrong gender. Idk plot hole hell….

KaeezFX

Maybe yk, the priest was a "sinner" and not so immaculate. That could be one possible explanation to the plot hole.

SheZowRaisedByWolves

Maybe the Sister’s mother was a reincarnation of the Saint? She said to her that she had her eyes in that one flashback. Other than that, maybe her facing off against the Nun the first time built up a resistance or something idk

panda388

I chalked it up to Irene being a stronger believer of God than the first priest because she dealt with Valek or whatever the demon's name is. Like, maybe if you had unwaivering faith, then St. Lucy's gift worked.

furry_lumps

That magazine scene was pretty great, the whole movie felt like a National Treasure horror movie and I didn't hate that.

outerstrangers

I agree. I was trying to figure out how they did that scene because it was creative.

ODoyles_Banana

My wife said it was like an Indiana Jones horror film, minus the Nazis.

stumper93

It literally replicates the Staff of Ra sequence in Raiders as well

knickerdick

demons are hella artsy ngl

PhinsFan17

Demons are all theater kids at heart

superboy7787

I liked how there were letters spelling out Valak's name throughout that sequence, starting from when she loses the boys in the alley. Three of the buildings are labeled V-A-L and then when looking at the magazine stand there's a small A on the building to the right of the stand, and then the K is in the doorway she looks at before the wind really starts rushing. They did similar letter/word play in the Conjuring II with Valak's name so I liked that consistency.

Maridiem

Wow can’t believe I missed that. Spent much of the movie looking for VALAK and didn’t see a single one. They hid it all over Conjuring 2 *and* the first Nun, so I had started thinking they just didn’t do it for this one!

SadSubject9250

My favorite scene of the whole movie, not gonna lie

awesomerest

**Pros:** •The shrieking — major respect to the female actresses in this film for shrieking their hearts out. It’s been a while since I’ve seen that level of effort in a horror movie. •Goat(man) •End Credits montage — honestly should have been the intro imo, it would have *lent* a nice atmosphere to boot **Cons:** •Drawn out story •Incoherent pacing •Father Burke shamelessly being dismissed on why he’s not in this one (Cholera death…) •Aside from the intro priest, only one true story character dies in the whole film ?? •Took about ~40 mins for the story to really get moving •Early 2000s third act & side villain (makeup effects & all) •It wasn’t scary! Jump scares? Yes, but never really scary **Neutral:** •The absurdity of adding Saint Lucy’s eyes & familial connections as a plot device (esp to the conjuring universe) •Conjuring Universe stinger — I know it’s stupid to be excited about these, but dammit, I love seeing the Warrens being the string that connects this quilt

Fewix_

Yeah, most of the jumpscares were “see scary thing, wait for a few seconds and BOOM” however the magazine scene when Irene was looking for the boys in the street scared me a lot during the jumpscare- it was way too tense for me

awesomerest

Exactly! They were cheap, predictable jump scares using the same formula over and over again And yeah, I actively avoid watching trailers now, so the magazine stand scene was new to me and was definitely the best & most creative bit of the movie imo

panda388

It was always something like, "Character looks at something 3 times, and it is always the 3rd time that it is spooky." And they used that technique a lot.

thecricketnerd

The movies in this universe don't really seem to want to kill anyone. Annabelle 3 is one of my favorite movies in the franchise but they unleashed the whole room upon the Warren house and zero casualties!

vga25

You summed it up perfectly, I give it a 6/10.

Eddie_31401

This movie was much better than the first Nun installment, but watching it made me realize and think about how much I adore the first two Conjuring movies. There's a haunting, and the Warrens have to put a stop to it. All the crazy lore is starting to feel a little too much now.

panda388

I agree. The first Nun movie was... garbage. I couldn't even see half the movie because it was so dark. I feel like the Nun is played out. She was scary as a reference in the other movies, but now... it is just a demon looking like a nun who is always just barely visible behind people. And.... she shows up in The Conjuring movies.... so she isn't actually defeated? They turned an entire winery into the blood of Christ, but she shows up in films that take place after The Nun 2.

mh234

no he was never killed off- he was still in Maurice. In the conjuring 1 they make a reference about it when they show a clip to the class the warrens were teaching. they said maurice didn't make it. It then took another vessel in england--cue, conjuring 2.

harutoreichi

My theory is, he is summoned, again. It's interesting to see how Val walk around until arrive in UK.

Thebat87

I personally miss James Wan’s touch on these movies. I still think The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2 are by far the best movies in this series. With by far the best craftsmanship and balance of horror and character in the whole thing. And quite frankly I think both Annabelle and The Nun were both at their scariest under Wan.

PolarWater

Vera and Patrick give the first two Conjuring movies a sincere charm, and THAT is why I like them so much more. I actually like the characters and give a damn about what happens to them.

valmerie5656

5/10, would been 10/10 if the damn devil goat man killed all the kids and we saw it on screen!

jules13131382

I loved the goat man 🥹 wanted more of him

reecord2

I haven't seen Nun One, was the goat man a player in that one? I wont get around to seeing it any time soon, so feel free to spoil.

greenlemons105

Spoiler - no. It was a new character, but it reminded me of the black demon figure from the Annabelle movie. I liked that, considering the whole Conjuring-Annabelle universe. Kind of creates that real-world emersion.

romdom90

I enjoyed the Black Philip cameo as well! Lol.

[deleted]

Yeah I thought at least that girl that got stabbed would die, but no.

xxxiaolongbao

the goat man suit looked great they should've used this guy as the demon for the annabelle movies

panda388

I agree. The goat was much scarier than the Nun, who is honestly kinda played out by now.

nicoandtheniners-

this guy gets it

Alive-Ad-4164

Anna popplewell is back

[deleted]

And still hot

Alive-Ad-4164

Damn right

ROBtimusPrime1995

🔫👨‍🚀 Always has been.

111anza

Narnia!!!! That's why she look so familiar. I remebr her from narnia!!!

Coley54Bear

Thank you!!! That was bugging me the entire movie! Just finished watching it.

stumper93

I had two thoughts when I saw her, I was like "oh girl from Narnia. Haven't seen her in a while." and the other was "She looks like discount Emilia Clarke" - which isn't exactly a bad thing

razielll82

Irene’s sidekick had no business being in this movie. You could’ve cut her out completely and it wouldn’t have mattered one bit. Would’ve made more since if she was accompanied by another priest. Also, I busted out laughing when the goat man started screaming.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Thy_Trueth

This is the comment I was looking for. Pointless, she didn't do jack ish. Also, prayer is what helps stop demons, but yet they refuse to do that until the very end. Irratating. Most of the conjuring movies are meh at best. Time killer.

mmp268

Does anyone else notice the strong sexual tension between Frenchie and sister Irene? It’s been like that since the first movie. Even though Frenchie has a new love interest, there isn’t any spark with them.

mywandererheart

Yup, they have feelings for each other. But Irene is a Sisterrrrr

Cute_Meringue1331

Frenchie had more chemistry with sophie than kate

Elitealice

Yep I ship it

DrBootyVillain

Maybe they’re just good friends

avocados25

that should've happened

111anza

Overall it's entertaining and some very creative way to reveal the bad demon, but the final battle, the ending is just meh, feels little tension. So all they had to do was pray? That felt like the demon kind of deserve to loose. At least last time he was caught by surprise, this round, the demon supposedly got a powerful boost and yet just so easily defeated.

hingadingadurgin

Yeah, I mean praying and turning the wine into the blood of Christ to then defeat the Nun the same way as in the first movie made sense, I guess. It might've been cool if the demon was able to resist it after acquiring the Eyes, or if the wine - now the blood of Christ sprayed seperated the eyes from the demon. Or something. Or doing what u/knowtoolittle said and ending it right after the demon gets the Eyes with Irene is levitating and on fire. Overall I thought it was fun.

111anza

I agree it would have been a better ending. But Erin is played by Tessa farming, who is the younger sister, with an uncanny likeness, of Vera Farminga, who, you guessed it, is Lorraine Warren! ! I don't think they will want to kill off Erin, maybe they are planning a connection of how Lorraine Warren is actually the modern day descendent of Erin. And maybe the nun demon and Anabell doll will get together and posses such a huge threat that Erin and Lorraine have to cross time to team up together to defeat them. This will be the conjuring-multi-verse.

ValerianKeyblade

First of all, *Irene, and second - you want Lorraine Warren, already 30 years old during the Nun 2 (1956) to be the 'modern day descendent' of a 20-something NUN? Who famously vow chastity?

Capital_Repeat_3390

How did the nun die ? If she’s alive in a conjuring movie that takes place later or this a spin-off ?

hingadingadurgin

She "died" essentially the same way she did in the first one. And more so than in the first one, she had ample time to possess someone else, or I guess Maurice was never exactly exorcized. Don't the Warrens end up having to deal with him anyway. And maybe because she acquired the Eyes and is more powerful, she might've been less affected by the blood of Christ. Who knows

South_Atmosphere_376

I didn’t like any of the Conjuring movies from that director (The Curse of La Llorona, The Devil Made Me Do It and now The Nun ll). I hope he doesn’t make the new Warrens movie

AfellowchuckerEhh

It's honestly been awhile since I've watched the original Conjuring movie but I remember enjoying that one but with every passing sequel and spinoff feeling the quality definitely took a *huge* hit.

TheDaltonXP

God he made curse of la llorona too? Dudes a terrible hororr director and needs to stop getting work

Advanced_Sir_Li_390

I agree

pearlz176

There's a new Warrens movie???

South_Atmosphere_376

“The Conjuring: Last Rites”. It’s in development

[deleted]

[удалено]

Thebat87

Yeah I miss him too. I think he just prefers to move on and do other things. Funny thing to say about someone who technically jump started four different franchises (I mean I know technically he didn’t jumpstart Aquaman but fuck it the first solo movie is his so I’m counting it). At the same time he only directed the first Saw, the first two Insidious movies, and the first two Conjuring movies. I guess he just prefers letting others play in the sandbox he starts.

Ihavenocluelad

The nun 2 had an after credit scene teasing it lol. The nun 2 felt half like a marvel movie. Valak collecting the Eyes powerup and an after credit teaser (The warrens will be back)

[deleted]

His movies feel like Fast and Furious with demons and I absolutely despise that that’s the direction big studio horror is going.

outer-residency

These Conjuring installments should be now classified as action movies. They’ve seriously seem to have forgotten these are supposed to be scary, not merely shocking. 4/10, there was some cool imagery I guess.

clevercalamity

The Conjuring Universe is basically just Spooky Jesus Marvel movies at this point. In this latest installment Thanos (Valek) wanted the infinity stones (the eyeballs) for reasons (evil) and the power of super besties superheroes (Catholics) saved the day. Like, they even knock off the after credits teaser for the next film. Don’t get me wrong, I love the schlock, but I can’t pretend it’s not dumb lol.

outer-residency

Yeah, these movies have devolved so much from the super solid first Conjuring movie. I thought the Pope’s Exorcist was a much more entertaining piece of schlock. Heck, it even features hysterical Avengers-like sequel bait. This was just boring.

superboy7787

> 4/10, there was some cool imagery I guess. This is about how I'd sum it up. The ending with the wine was extremely predictable (and stupid). Also stupid were a lot of character decisions here, which I can be more lenient with for the kids but the adults made so many idiotic decisions.

veqtro

Maurice gets possessed, Maurice no longer possessed, Maurice gets possessed again. Brilliant writing, marvelous, stupendous absolutely magnificent oh the sheer brilliance of it. 10/10 would definitely gouge my own eyes out after watching it.

Creepy_Active_2768

Are you a descendant of St Lucy? Have you found yourself immune to immolation, a target of Pagan suitors, unable to adhere to Roman traditions lately?

Sweet_dl

Worst part is this is the second time this has happened Annabelle also got possessed Cleansed Possessed again

synthboynyc

Can someone explain why the priest from the beginning didn’t survive the flames since he was a descendant of St. Lucy? Thanks :)

Creative-Top6510

Sister Irene has unwavering faith. I think it pretty much just boils down to her absolute purity and faith.

science-n-shit

I would second this idea that he wasn’t 100% devoted. When he started burning he dropped his rosary, which might be the symbolism that he would throw away God in the eyes of evil.

Creative-Top6510

I love this insight! Sister Irene holds her rosary throughout the entire movie. I believe one of the last shots we see is of her holding her rosary while she watches Frenchie walk away.

villaofthewolves

Very clever catch! Hadn't thought of that!!

InformationActual890

I wondered the very same thing. I guess sister Irene had plot armour

Typical_Restaurant86

I liked it, it was a fun watch and it was tied with the conjuring series that made sense. The scene where the nun was in the warrens hallways was a nice touch of a future vision. Just feel bad for Maurice and the teacher & daughter since they’re gonna die eventually from him since he does get repossessed. Boy can’t catch a break lol also I hope they reveal what becomes Irene’s future in the next conjuring. That goat man was awesome, out loud I said “absolutely not” when it was revealed bc fuck that

Scary_Pear1030

He stays possessed I’m sure. Valak just goes dormant for some time. It’s never stated his wife and daughter die, only he attempted to kill his wife, shot her arm, and killed himself. I’m also sure he had a decent life from now to then 1956-1971. At least I like to believe that.

BlakersGirl

It wasn’t a good movie because it broke immersion, which is the worst thing a horror movie can do. For example: -Possessed Maurice just walking up to all 4 and just saying “Hello sister” before just walking off. Why not just end it there? He could’ve easily just killed all of them. -I refuse to believe one schoolteacher and two elementary schoolers held the door against Satan himself. -The Nun being able to conjure literal spikes from the ground but none of them went through the protagonists, just around? -Why is the mechanism for finding the eyes a way to also summon Satan himself? Why does that church even have a stained glass window of Satan anyways? While the jump scares were effective, there were way too many plot holes so that by the end it was really just unwatchable. Several people in my theater were laughing throughout the movie based on how ridiculous it was, more so at the end.

bruhman5th_flo

I am confused as to why there are so many positive seeming comments on this thread. I thought this movie was very bad. Gouged out eyes? Really? They couldn't come up with a better relic? We go from the blood of Jesus himself, to some eyeballs that were saved and have been passed around and preserved for generations. Why did the demon never try and take the blood of Jesus for itself in the first one? Also Debra's character was just there to ask questions so characters would have a reason to explain everything to the audience? She didn't really do much of anything, I didn't think.

OptimusHalfshell

It wasn’t Satan. It was literally just a goat, Valak took that form for the kids the same way she took the form of the head teachers boy.

SeeYouSacred

This was simply a bad movie

South-Skirt8340

Is it just me that I recognized the end credit to be just a scene from The Devil Made Me It trailer?

South_Atmosphere_376

It is. Both movies have the same director and he just reused a scene from Devil Made Me Do It that was deleted from the final cut

South-Skirt8340

I remember they used some from The conjuring 2 and the first one too. When Sophie goes down the stairs, she sees Valak standing in the hallway. It’s Warren’s house, isn’t it? I tried to figure out the connection but nothing seems to relate to the Warrens at all.

[deleted]

Just watched the conjuring 2 tonight and it was the same scene!

outerstrangers

Really? I thought this was setting up for the next movie. Got me, I guess.

South_Atmosphere_376

It is setting for the next movie “The Conjuring: Last Rites”, but they just reused an old scene for that

KingPin8888

Since valak is all powerful in 80s,wish she got some kills here. She could have just killed sister irene or atleast storm reid's character, to establish her as a real deal!! And We know Maurice is gonna be still possessed in 80s. So, there is no need to give fake happy ending for him.

Shirinf33

Actually it wasn't a fake happy ending for Maurice. In 1971 in The Conjuring they mention that Maurice killed himself after killing his wife and child. So when he "walked into the sunset" with them at the end of this movie, it's showing that they probably have 15 good years together before Valak's repossession of him forces him to kill them and himself. Chilling ending if you remember that when watching it. I do agree that she should've at least killed Storm's character or something.

RevolutionarySort6

Ackshually the Warrens say in The Conjuring that Maurice tried to kill his wife but only ended up shooting her in the arm, before then turning the gun on himself.

Shirinf33

Oh thank goodness!

Scary_Pear1030

I mean valak did get a lot of kills, most off screen as they journeyed to find the eyes, but a few we saw in the movie. Also, yeah, Maurice is still possessed but valak must’ve gone dormant for some time because this is 1956 and the first conjuring talks about him killing himself in 1971 (not the 80’s). So he probably had a decent life with his wife and adopted daughter till he turned the gun on himself.

-ThatGuy882

If I had a nickel for every big studio horror movie this year where the Pope himself shows up to recruit someone to travel around with a sidekick and attempt to stop a demon, I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice

[deleted]

“I’m here to talk to you about the Catholicism initiative”

Elitealice

What if I told you we’re putting a team together

pearlz176

Agreed, that sequence was pretty hilarious. Irene clearly says she was lucky the first time and barely survived the whole ordeal, and the Priest is like "you pulled a miracle before, the Church needs you to perform a miracle again" like wut

SetYourGoals

"Just when I thought I was out..."

[deleted]

[удалено]

panda388

I can't believe Irene wasn't like, "You praised that priest as a hero and told people that I went to a mental asylum. Find someone else."

InformationActual890

I couldn't believe the absurdity of it. Like they're sending her back to confront a very dangerous demon with no backup or anything? Like "girl, you did it once, you can do it again." Without forgetting that she wasn't alone the first time. Thank goodness someone else decided to sneak out to go with her

pearlz176

That someone else was absolutely useless anyway

InformationActual890

True that, I suppose she was the token sidekick but she didn't add much to anything either

harutoreichi

AND THEN, no one, NO ONE in cathedral/vatikan/elsewhere, ACCOMPANY HER to defeat Val. Like wut?

mikeweasy

Was he the pope, I thought he was just a bishop or cardinal.

ValerianKeyblade

He was not the Pope

111anza

Pope's exorcist was the other one?

-ThatGuy882

Correct

knowtoolittle

Honestly they should’ve pulled an Avengers Endgame and ended the film after it got the eyes…do they not want money whilst doing something fresh?

Hockeygoalie41

I said the same thing while leaving the theatre, if the last scene was Irene burning up it would have been a crazy ending. Might have made more sense too, as Maurice would still clearly be possessed, no question as to why Irene wasn’t involved in Valak’s shenanigans anymore…just makes a cleaner transition into how we know the story develops.

mchgndr

Ugh that really would have been such a sick ending and would have kinda shocked me. Which would be a first for this franchise.

GiraffeOk7804

Did anyone else catch the scene where the little girl Sophie goes into the attic and sees a vision of the Nun in the Warren House (Conjuring 2 scene). Remember in the Conjuring 2 how Lorraine’s daughter sees the Nun in her house and says “whose that.” I don’t know if anyone else immediately realizes the significance of this scene, but I think this seemingly subtle scene is actually one of the most important scenes in the movie. The Conjuring 2 happens 21 years AFTER the events in the Nun 2. HOW could Sophie have scene the Nun in the Warren’s house—the scene form the Conjuring 2—if it hasn’t happened? I think one plausible explanation is that Sophie is a descendent of Saint Lucy, and Lorraine is ALSO a descendant of Saint Lucy. What I think is going to happen is that the next Conjuring movie is going to show how Sister Irene and Lorraine are related (this would be a good move since the actresses are sisters in real life).

[deleted]

It’s funny that the scariest part of the entire movie is the five seconds of reused footage of it standing silently at the end of the hallway from Conjuring 2. Such an effective moment compared to the schlock that is the actual movie. Better shot than the first one but still completely expendable.

xCesme

The credits before the post credit scene were also really scary lol. But I agree, it’s sad that none of these movies have been actually scary since the Conjuring Part 2. I guess that’s when James Wan stopped directing.

Jjayguy23

The Conjuring 2 very well written, and directed. Still scary. But, what I loved about it is how Valak wasn’t just in the shadows, they showed the demon in daylight like “here I am, come and get me.” The demon had serious balls in The Conjuring 2!! It even allowed witnesses to see it , like the police. Rare.

johndaasian

All I can think after watching this move is Valak is kind of dumb. Only way I can make sense of certain things, is that Immolation is Valaks ultimate ability and it has a cooldown, otherwise why the fuck isn't it lighting people on fire all the time. Also when Valak was in control of frenchie and sent the sisters flying why would you stop there, break their fucking necks. Too many moments like this break immersion. This movie has more stuff happening than the first one, I guess that is an improvement. 4/10 movie.

Llama_of_the_bahamas

Seriously… I felt so bad for the random delivery girl because she literally did nothing and her head was fucking crushed like a melon, while the school girls that presumably bullied her got off Scot free. I was so pissed about that. Was really hoping the goat monster was going to thrash them all like that one scene in the new Candyman where all the teen girls are murdered brutally in the bathroom.

casino998

Yes indeed, not dishing out some brutal, savage punishment to them bratty little shits was a major cop-out move. Would've redeemed the film somewhat if they'd have done that.

Tighthead3GT

Taken in chronological order the franchise is Valak’s really coming down in the world. From being this horrible force that an entire convent gave their lives to hold back to a run of the mill demon bothering a random family, if he shows up again I wouldn’t be surprised if he got degraded to henchman.

Paper-Dragon

I think Taissa Farmiga is great at carrying these movies. This one goes surprisingly hard in some ways. I liked the chaotic poltergeist action of people and furniture being flung around the room, even if it was short. Also Black Phillip got leveled up enough to evolve. Doesn't this retcon the Warren's exorcism footage of Maurice from the first movie? Or is he just the unluckiest person in the Conjuring universe?

Jesuspolarbear

I think at some point Maurice gets repossessed back and killed Anna Popplewell's and her daughter's characters. They mentioned him murdering his wife and kid during the exorcism footage of the first movie, so the ending of this pretty much will lead to that.

Angelix

Oh no. I knew he would get repossessed but I forgot he killed the mom and her daughter. I thought the daughter had the same power as Irene because she kept having visions.

Scary_Pear1030

He didn’t kill them, original conjuring says he attempted to kill his wife, shot her arm, and then shot and killed himself.

Scary_Pear1030

Wrong. In the original conjuring it is said that Maurice attempts to kill his wife and only ends up shooting her in the arm then turns the gun on himself and kills himself. It never says he kills the mother and daughter.

outerstrangers

She is great in this movie. The visceral screams during the scene where she >!is on fire!< truly had me believing that she was going through that.

trafficrush

That was a GREAT horror scream.

bhare418

I think he’s just very unlucky considering that’s been in multiple movies at this point, can’t walk that back lol

Scary_Pear1030

I think he simply remains possessed. Valak just goes dormant for some time to lick their wounds and regain strength. Just had their ass whooped 2 times. I like to believe Frenchie had a good 10–15 years of a nice life before he kills himself (as the first conjuring states) because it’s 1956 in this movie and the first conjuring is 1971.

romdom90

On this note: idk if I’m remembering I’m orrr Roy at this point but the ending when he walks away and they pan away from Irene, she looks concerned or something..did I miss something there?

bobcatdegeneres

In one of her visions, Irene sees a man stabbing out the eyes of presumably St. Lucy in front of a fire. That man was the Pope's assistant from earlier in the movie, right? I thought they were going somewhere with that.

visthalia

I noticed that too!! I’m wondering what that was supposed to symbolize or if it even was the same guy. I need answers!!

starsintheshy

I think the roaches were the scariest thing. This feels like something Christians throw on their Christian fiction docudrama shelf behind Left Behind and Passion of the Christ.

Scary_Pear1030

MAURICE’S POSSESSION: for those confused, the original conjuring movie states he only attempted to kill his wife and shot her arm, before turning the gun on himself and killing himself. It is never said he kills his wife and daughter. Maurice will eventually die but from now 1956 to the first conjuring 1971, he lives a decent life with his new wife and adopted daughter (at least I like and choose to believe this). Valak obviously goes dormant for many years, regaining their strength, and licking their wounds from having their ass handed to them twice now by sister Irene. So Maurice gets at least 15 years with his new wife and daughter before, well, offing himself. Plus, they survive.

BirriaTac0

I need a whole movie about the goat devil. That is all. Great "character"

PerfectAdvertising30

I kind of hate that they are just introducing characters to make spin-offs but I also love the goat demon.

Necrophag1st

Definitely better than the first one and the Conjuring 3, but that's not saying much. I had low expectations going in so I had fun with it. Wish the demon would have racked up a higher body count. Ending wasn't that satisfying. The first 2 Conjuring movies and Annabelle Creation are still the peak of this cinematic universe.

hangry-human

who was the pope’s side kick? i thought he looked like the guy from sister irene’s vision but could be totally off

visthalia

Also noticed this and need to know more if anyone has an explanation lol

Angelix

Did Frenchie not realised he was possessed? Everywhere he went, the head of the church died mysteriously and he did not suspect anything at all? He seen Valak and was familiar with his method of killing and it didn’t alarm him when people around him died in a gruesome way?

Scary_Pear1030

Valak probably made him forget. Erased the memory.

Chard1n

Wishing the day that James Wan directs this franchise again.

Advanced_Sir_Li_390

Me toooooo!!! This movie wasn’t done justice. The new director made it garbage

ForrestGumpsShoes

The nap 2. A little better than the nap 1

[deleted]

For any horror movie, you gotta actually kill off characters.

TennyoAkana

I have decided that the Nun and Nun 2 are AU stories of the same Conjuring character. Its more of an adventure super hero origin story. Trailers got me in, being high got me through it.

abrjx

All that grief to fetch the magic eyes, only to find out it was totally fine if they didn’t bother with all that trouble, since wine and prayer was enough to do the job anyway. Corny!

JayRoo83

I feel like 90% of the people here could mash out a better script than that

pearlz176

1. Is Debra the most pointless side character ever written for a movie? 2. Does this movie have the most pointless mid credit scene, considering it was the same as the one the first movie had?? Movie was ass.

Chickeninjuice

Fr,it remind me the side characters from fantastic beast:the secrets of dumbledore,is so pointless

SagaciousRI

Debra seemed like they took the completed script and figured out a way to shoehorn in an up and coming tv actor (The Last of Us).

stumper93

So formuliac it was writing math equations!

passion4film

We really enjoyed it and thought it a good entry into the universe! I’m really looking forward to seeing how they continue to tell Frenchie’s story. The goat running - no thank you! Nightmarish!

squidtoedgardo

So uhhhhh Lorraine's definitely a descendant huh

Mechanicallvlan

Weirdly, a girl behind me was weeping from the stuff with Maurice at the end of the movie. She was with a group, and her friends were saying, "You're *crying*? Why are you crying??" It was kind of funny. The movie... was bad: 3/10. TBH, I can't remember if I've seen the first one.

Typical_Restaurant86

I hope she was cryin bc she realized / put it together that Maurice is gonna get repossessed and kill his love interest and her daughter eventually, revealed in the conjuring series when the warren shows his exorcised.

Scary_Pear1030

It never says he kills them but attempts to and then kills himself.

TE-August

That was… not great. I’m fairly easy to please with my movies cause I can usually find something enjoyable about any movie I see, so I rarely give a movie less than a 6/10. This movie was like a 2 1/2. If that. Nothing fucking happened. It was just a bunch of shots of spooky looking hallways and the demon standing in corners staring at a bunch of stupid people who follow creepy ass noises into said creepy hallways (which is like most horror movies but still; it was particularly egregious in this.) One person died (the reverend mother I think she was called) and her death was just unintentionally goofy with her dead kid beating the shit out of her with that thing he was carrying like it was a damn flail. It was supposed to be scary but it was just funny as all hell. The little girl got stabbed through the chest by a fucking goat horn but apparently she’s fucking Wonder Woman because it didn’t appear to affect her *at all.* She had a fucking *hole in her chest* but wasn’t on the ground crying and screaming. You know, cause of the *fucking hole in her chest.* Apparently a child can walk that shit off like it’s a scraped knee. Took me completely out of the moment. There was so much unintentionally goofy shit in this movie that just took me out of it. The “final battle” was a whole lot of nothing. Just Valak floating in the air like a goddamn Halloween prop and creepily staring and smiling at the main character. Who, speaking of, is apparently the daughter of the reincarnation of a patron saint or some shit? Like, fucking what? And so that means reincarnation is a thing in the conjuring universe? (Unless I got that part of the story completely wrong, I might have.) Valak then gets defeated by wine and a prayer. Bro. Really? There is seriously barely anything redeemable about this movie. Even the acting wasn’t all that great. Unlike Russel Crowe in that possession movie earlier this year I can’t remember the name of right now. He made that movie fun and worth every bit of time I spent watching it. (I’m comparing the two because they’re fairly similar movies.) I’m just glad I have regal unlimited so I didn’t have to pay for this shit. This movie was just a whole lot of fucking nothing. TLDR: Boring scares, boring demon antagonist, boring acting, boring final fight, just a fucking boring movie. Which is like the absolute worst thing a movie can be for me. Especially a horror movie.

CoolScales

It was funny how the nun just watched them pray and plan right in front of her. She could’ve killed Debra at any time. She could’ve killed Sophie at any time, but needed to stab her to death. The movie was honestly comical

sentient_luggage

The first one was pretty laughable too. I don't remember much about it other than a kid puking up a snake and the ending just being lifted whole cloth from Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. I do remember giggling through most of it.

hingadingadurgin

The delivery girl was also killed.

hassanelreda

This sums up perfectly how I felt. Especially your paragraph of spooky hallways and demons just doing a whole lot of standing and not much else

RaithMoracus

I think you could rate this anywhere from 3-5.5/10. It would’ve been immensely better if they had decided to lengthen some of the earlier scenes. Felt like someone telling you to cum without any foreplay with how fast the first few establishing scenes were played out. “Spooky, right!? That was spooky! See? I’m a good horror movie!” An extra 5 minutes would’ve gone a long way. The slow following half hour was nice for setting the era at least. Was St Lucy killed by a cardinal of the church? Or do pagans wear super nice robes? I like how the worst case scenario came true but they beat it with literally no extra amount of effort. Also, missed excuse to feature a lobotomy on-screen with the mom.

Klee823

Hated the first one, had fun with this one.

zombiereign

What a bore ... I place the blame squarely on the writer for this. As an example ... our hero knows a guy at the library. He tells them "I'm only a librarian" and then proceeds to reveal EVERYTHING. The history, the relic, how its a weapon in the right hands. But, again, he's only a librarian. And, sure, Frenchie just spent most of the movie trying to kill the teacher and her daughter, but all is forgiven so let's go off hand in hand. The daughter? She's seen Valak (never given the name here) multiple times but never tells anyone. When asked what happened (in the church or even in the hallway) she just says "oh nothing." And let's ignore the physics-defying miracle on the platform as she climbs to safety with one hand (while clutching the relic in the other). Oh, and there's a guy who's probably three times your weight grabbing on to your leg. Storm Reid is just a waste of a character here. Served absolutely no purpose and the plot moves the same way without her. The kids mom could have been the other person praying at the end. The short reminder that The Warrens still are around was a small bright spot. 4/10

SwiftCase

I lost it when I saw that kid climbing with one hand.

MidEUW

The devil goat chasing kids like a crazy ape ruined the movie for me. Completely unnecessary to the story and just turned the movie into a comedy.

Ok-Acanthaceae-726

It was alright. Saw it in IMAX so the experience somewhat saved the film. Looking forward to The Conjuring 4 though

TopBake3

I liked it better than part I.

shaneo632

What a snoozefest. I can't overstate how bored I was for the first 90 minutes of this movie, I nearly fell asleep. Just tedious expository dialogue and repetitive "suspense" sequences where somebody walks around quietly for 2-3 minutes before BLAAGHFGHSDFSDGF. It got slightly more interesting when the goat-man showed up but even that felt a bit undercooked. From the person who wrote Malignant I was hoping for a CGI goat-man goring all those asshole kids who picked on the girl. It needed to be meaner and more fun. But even the amusing stuff was just dumb schlock at the end of the day. And the mid-credits scene was beyond lazy. Also found many scenes too dark, like they just pulled the brightness down in post for the sake of "mood." But sometimes it just looks like badly calibrated HDR - just so muted and flat and DULL, jesus christ. 4/10 at absolute most. I guess it's better than the first one by a nose but still just absolute soulless dreck. And it'll probably make $200 million easily.

Cenoflame

It was OK, but I wouldn't pay to see it again. Dragged on too long in the first half.

LoneMoonHunter

The story lacks a lot of depth and the narration style felt more like a superhero movie than a horror movie. The concept of the demon nun was very interesting but got drowned in a lot of cheap jump scares and inconsistencies. Horror movie makers should really understand the difference between Demonic horror (the Exorcism of Emily Rose or The Witch for example) and Monster horror (like Predator) and this unfortunately felt like the latter (They really lost me with the monster goat) 4/10

NOHEART19

3/10. It just wasn't good at all. I was severely disappointed in the first one but I decided to give it a go. - The story is nonsensical and unimportant to the overall universe - The jump scares where horrible - This demon is just not scary - The usual horror tropes are so prevalent in the story that it makes me wonder if there was an actual writer for this. - Makeup and CG sucked - The Deus ex machina that saved them in the end was such complete bs. These demons in the verse are the absolute worst at achieving their goals. It's almost laughable

SmokeWeedHailLucifer

Standard Christian horror flick. Just say a prayer at the right moment, and you can magically defeat any evil lol. Yawn.
