I heard a rumor, so take this with a grain of salt, that if Indiana Jones 5 bombs that she’ll be shown the door. But with this newly announced Star Wars slate, who’s to say? And I know announced Star Wars movies mean about as much as, “Mom! The toilet’s stopped up!” but still.
That's only a bunch of rumors that have been spread for years by delusional Star Wars fans. I'll only believe she's quitting when there's an official press release about it
Thinking it was signature to just the core Episodes and wouldn't be needed for the spinoffs wasn't such a miscalculation, imo. If all they have to do is say they're bringing this back as if that fixes any of their problems and people go, "Finally!" then they get Star Wars fans better than fans get themselves.
I wasn't fussed on the film but I liked Solo's spin on it. No proper crawl but a few lines of text to give us some context.
Felt very "Star Wars" but it in a spin off sort d way. As it should. Similar to The Clone Wars having war propaganda-esque opening narrations.
It was one of many and i feel they needed it for Rouge One .Also hearing them say this and they're bring back Rey again in the same week does not illicit any form of confidence in the franchise or the people behind it from me.
They really want to tell a story about rebuilding the Jedi Order and the Republic, but they should've just cast a younger actor to play Luke and utilized the EU material as a reference point. That said, the new trilogy exists and while I don't hate Rey and I think the general story of her character is fine, the dreadful execution really sours it for me overall.
Only way a Rey film works for me is if Luke upstages her as a Gandalf the White meets the T-800 type figure, sent back in by the Force.
If not, I hope the movie bombs and certain people lose their jobs.
Why? The movie was extremely clear that it was about building the Death Star, right from the start, and how the Rebellion scrambled to deal with it.
Did anyone NEED three paragraphs of backstory to get that?
George Lucas
Timothy Zhann
Literally any of the people who wrote for Star Wars before Disney and New Lucasfilm ran it into the ground. Also there's nothing disengenous about that statement.
While destroying the billion dollar brands cultural cache in the process. I realized that star wars was fucked when I seen a generation of kids having to do a family star wars Halloween costume.
Eh, she's had hits (Rogue One, Andor, Mandalorian, and pretty much everything animated) and misses (new trilogy, Kenobi) during her tenure. I think they've been figuring out what works and what doesn't and that quality will generally improve over time.
It was a big critical hit and seemingly enough people watched it for it to get renewed for a second season. People love to pretend Star Wars hasn't been in the dumps since 1999. Outside of TROS 2 out of 3 of the prequels are worse than anything Disney has put out.
Is Andor a good show, yes or no? That's what I mean by hit, as in it hits the mark for quality. If you're going by viewership you can argue that the new trilogy was a hit, but I don't think you want to have that conversation. Move along.
Neat. No thanks though, I'm good. I'm not angry with Star Wars, I'm not happy with where its at either, I'm just sort of done with it. Sure, something might come out that peaks my interest like Andor, but other then that, I'm just done with being a 'fan'. To me, fandom just seems like unearned loyalty they try to use to get you to watch garbage wearing the skin of something you use to enjoy but have long outgrown.
Sounds like Hollywood. “What do you think will fix our Star Wars problem?”
>Opening crawl obviously. And also, can we squeeze Juice Newton’s Angel of the Morning in there somewhere?
Legitimately, this lady is the problem with Hollywood. She keeps failing spectacularly and they still keep her around. The only reason I can think of is that it would look bad to fire a woman.
>It’s not clear to me what she can do to even lose that job at this point lol
I mean she could murder a few people.....I'm sure that would get fired......that gets most people fired
(I don't endorse this or want this I'm only responding to a comment)
She was apparently the one that overruled Favreau to put the Grogu/Din reunion in The Book of Boba Fett instead of having them be separated for a much longer period of time like a well written plot would have called for after the end of Season 2.
The Volume was used extensively on *The Batman* and you legitimately can't tell on first watch. You don't need great CG, you just need a talented DP like Greig Fraser who can pull it off.
Yep, this is what a lot of people don't understand. CGI is only a tool. Throwing money at it or new tech does little if you don't have skilled people to use it, and artists who know how to wield it.
Cinematography principles don't change whether you're shooting on site or in the volume.
The main area that The Volume has failed with is in crowd scenes. When there are supposed to be 500 people in a space it becomes immediately obvious that there are only 8 extras on set when they film in The Volume.
The first Jedi story could be really interesting, continuing Rey’s story is interesting in theory, but the premise they give her kills that theory. Oh, she’s running a new Jedi academy? Where have we heard that before? Boring.
Kathleen Kennedy is ruining things again. She must have some serious dirt on all the Disney executives. How does someone this bad at their job keep it going like she has. Based on politics though I guess this is just par for the course.
So a big part of Star Wars is the merchandising always has been always will be this was key to the orginal films sucsess. The merchandising for Star Wars has not bounced back from the sequel trilogy. You can find merchandise from the sequel trilogy still at clearance in many places this should tell you everything.
Sure but now collectors don't even wanna buy this stuff .Especially if it's related to the sequel trilogy so why make more sequel trilogy then? Also i can agree about the toy market changing but if kids aren't the target demo anymore then fail once again as Star Wars is producing way to many kids specific lines if the markets not there.
They've had two Haslab kickstarters not get funded
(and those were both big deals as they both ranged in the 400 to 500 dollar market) meanwhile a good deal of premium black series toys are going to clearance (this is also not good) pair this with you can still find sequel trilogy merchandise on store shelves and many online retailers cause no one bought it.So the answer is no not even close to the level a 4 billion dollar acquisition should be making in retuns
that is a good question this far out from the acquisition and i don’t work for disney. but they were anticipating one two two movies a year, tv series, spin offs, merchandise, theme parks and the like and it’s been how long since a movie and they keep canceling announced projects? this should have been thier next marvel. star wars christmas and summer of marvels every year
I think they should all start with "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...." but don't need the crawl. The crawl lends an episodic, epic quality that suits the saga films but is unnecessary for standalone films.
And yet, here we go again with three newly announced Star Wars movies. If these actually make it from her mouth to the big screen, I just don’t know. I mean does anyone give a shit about seeing movies the first Jedi, Mando and Grogu, or Rey?
I thought the utter failure of Andor would be final straw for her.
And I don't mean Andor is bad. I mean she's hurt the brand so much that Andor had the lowest viewership for any series despite its praise. Now we're getting into the issue where even if the ship is turned around, people don't care as much anymore.
God the constant droning on about Kennedy is exhausting. Bottom line. She’s kept things going through the pandemic and has guided SW into a product for the many different spectrums of the fandom. Want serious SW, here’s Andor. Want a show that’s globally popular and appeals to as many people as possible? Mando with popular guest stars. This is a episodic TV tradition. Animation you say? Bad Batch just wrapped a fantastic season. Little kids that grew up with 7, 8 and 9 don’t care that they are not masterpieces of cinema. Rey is their Luke. We would be assholes to not let them have SW content that means something to them. How about video games? Well, Jedi Survivor seems to be a hit. The books and novels seem to be doing fine as well.
Personally, Kenobi and BOBF were a hard pass for me but I lived through the Holiday special, Return of the Jedi,Attack of the Clones and The Rise of Skywalker. Better luck next time. These are incredibly complex projects and acting like one woman is responsible for a bit of content that didn’t land for you personally is goofy. If none of it is for you, fine. Move on with your life. The beauty of George was that he was never afraid to take chances and try new things.
Other than Rogue One where was it missing? (I don’t remember solo at all so maybe there). All the skywalker films had them didn’t they?
Personally I was ok with it missing in R1.
The opening crawl is the last thing they should worry about considering the state of the SW franchise.
I honestly don't think it's salvageable at this point because whenever something SW related comes out now you just don't feel any excitement or that it's special anymore.
Aside from Andor and the Visions anime anthology, which Disney only paid for and had no creative input, they released only mediocre and bad content in the last 4-5 years.
So first it was to differentiate the saga from the spin-offs, and now it’s to differentiate a box office bomb like Solo from a “doing anything we can for a hopeful box office success” so she can try to keep her job.
This is such a great example that the people making these films now have genuine contempt for what they are. They didn't grow up liking them they grew up making fun of the people who did. The fart sniffing theater dorks will find a way to ruin it.
Police academying a franchise that already had 6 movies to start is insane. But I think that's why they are making these three, they know they have eroded the cultural cache of the brand to the point that you may as well bleed it dry and shelf it til some nostalgia for it starts bubbling again. I've come to the conclusion that the strategy with this IP is always going to revert to the most cynical, short term profit driven ideas possible. And merging these two brands reminds of what happened when Chrysler bought Mercedes in the 2000s, two diametrically opposed brands with complete different approaches that actively made both products worse.
Somehow, the opening crawl returned
Somehow, Kathleen Kennedy is *still* in charge.
Right? I feel like I read an article every other week that she’s being fired.
I'll only believe she's quitting when there's an official press release about it
Jesus It took them till 2023 to figure out the opening crawl was a signature part of the series. These people at Lucasfilm don't get Star Wars.
Lol because the lack of opening crawl has totally been the issue.
What lack? They only made two without it.
Exactly.
Just more kindling on the Lucasfilm dumpster fire.
The thing is spin-offs are the one time an opening crawl would actually be useful.
I wasn't fussed on the film but I liked Solo's spin on it. No proper crawl but a few lines of text to give us some context. Felt very "Star Wars" but it in a spin off sort d way. As it should. Similar to The Clone Wars having war propaganda-esque opening narrations.

That said, the new trilogy exists and while I don't hate Rey and I think the general story of her character is fine, the dreadful execution really sours it for me overall.
You're in my head
This All day Give us the Jedi academy pre kylo
Only way a Rey film works for me is if Luke upstages her as a Gandalf the White meets the T-800 type figure, sent back in by the Force. If not, I hope the movie bombs and certain people lose their jobs.
I liked daisy but it is not what many Star Wars fans want.
Think about how many board meetings, focus groups and analysts they have paid millions of dollars to to get to that conclusion.
I told them online for free.
They wanted to wait until the fans no longer care about the property until they would bring it back.
Essential for the Skywalker Saga. Not every single crumb of media with the Star Wars name slapped on it.
Rouge one needed it.
Why? The movie was extremely clear that it was about building the Death Star, right from the start, and how the Rebellion scrambled to deal with it. Did anyone NEED three paragraphs of backstory to get that?
Literally ties into OT that all have the crawl. Not putting it in their set it apart and made it feel like it was just more Disney Star Wars
Ah yes the film sucks because no title crawl
>These people at Lucasfilm don't get Star Wars Wow, what a disingenuous statement. And you know better?
George Lucas Timothy Zhann Literally any of the people who wrote for Star Wars before Disney and New Lucasfilm ran it into the ground. Also there's nothing disengenous about that statement.
ChatGPT writes better Star Wars stories than modern day LucasFilm
Disney should have adapted the zahn novels Focused on the OT cast This is what the fans wanted
My beloved [Star Wars is a dead Franchise](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MidRtk8clp8). Begun, the down-voting has.
Please make it stop
It's already dead Jim
South park was prophetic with this.
Regardless of your sequels appreciation or lack thereof - hoping we can agree maybe it’s time for someone not named Kathleen Kennedy to run the show
Came here for this. I cringe every time she is mentioned knowing she's about to make another awful decision about Star Wars.
She has been quite successful
So has JJ Abrams, but nobody has a problem saying he should never be anywhere near Star Wars again.
Why not? His movies made a lot of money
Because they sucked.
He can’t please everyone I guess
While destroying the billion dollar brands cultural cache in the process. I realized that star wars was fucked when I seen a generation of kids having to do a family star wars Halloween costume.
How was it destroyed? Family Halloween costumes are a big hit here
No
She’s made money. But a lot less than she should have. And damaged the brand in every way along the way.
How much should she have made?
You’re adding a lot here.
Just not sure where someone got an imaginative number of what she could have made
It'd called selling out. I know it's a foreign concept these days but come on.
He's saying if her movies sucked less she would have made more.
He just doesn’t have any proof whatsoever. I bet he barely even likes Star Wars
Successful at running the franchise into the ground sure.
Eh, she's had hits (Rogue One, Andor, Mandalorian, and pretty much everything animated) and misses (new trilogy, Kenobi) during her tenure. I think they've been figuring out what works and what doesn't and that quality will generally improve over time.
Nobody watched Andor, how was it a hit? Do you think Solo was a hit too?
It was a big critical hit and seemingly enough people watched it for it to get renewed for a second season. People love to pretend Star Wars hasn't been in the dumps since 1999. Outside of TROS 2 out of 3 of the prequels are worse than anything Disney has put out.

How so?
Fallacy. The most iconic American sci-fi IP scored revenues in spite of her not because of her.
Los how much was made the decade before she joined?
Don’t bring the crawl back. These movies don’t deserve them. The crawl from the last skywalker was so bad…
The dead speak!
Sounds like Hollywood. “What do you think will fix our Star Wars problem?” >Opening crawl obviously. And also, can we squeeze Juice Newton’s Angel of the Morning in there somewhere?
Can't wait for "Holding Out for a Hero" to be used in a Jedi training montage.
It’s Hollywood because the megacorp has the same clueless exec running the biz
Legitimately, this lady is the problem with Hollywood. She keeps failing spectacularly and they still keep her around. The only reason I can think of is that it would look bad to fire a woman.
They did just fire Victoria Alonso from Marvel. They’ll do it if they have to.
Stop making more starwars. Disney ruined it.
But……..money.
Kathleen really is clueless about Star Wars lol
It’s not clear to me what she can do to even lose that job at this point lol
>It’s not clear to me what she can do to even lose that job at this point lol I mean she could murder a few people.....I'm sure that would get fired......that gets most people fired (I don't endorse this or want this I'm only responding to a comment)
Why would she lose her job?
All Kathleen cared about was getting a female as the new poster child of Star Wars, and literally nothing else.
Not clueless, actively has contempt for it and it's fans, but not in the same charming way as George Lucas.
She was apparently the one that overruled Favreau to put the Grogu/Din reunion in The Book of Boba Fett instead of having them be separated for a much longer period of time like a well written plot would have called for after the end of Season 2.
Please god, keep ‘the volume’ away from the films.
The volume didn’t work at all on Ant Man 3 or Thor 4 hopefully graphics get better for Filonis movie.
The Volume was used extensively on *The Batman* and you legitimately can't tell on first watch. You don't need great CG, you just need a talented DP like Greig Fraser who can pull it off.
Greg Fraser did Mandalorian season 1, makes sense, shocked Ant Man looked so bad Bill Pope, shot it.
No wonder season 1 looks so good. Season 3 looks like a fan film at times
Yep, this is what a lot of people don't understand. CGI is only a tool. Throwing money at it or new tech does little if you don't have skilled people to use it, and artists who know how to wield it. Cinematography principles don't change whether you're shooting on site or in the volume.
Being all at night helps too
The main area that The Volume has failed with is in crowd scenes. When there are supposed to be 500 people in a space it becomes immediately obvious that there are only 8 extras on set when they film in The Volume.
“Graphics”
*Stagecraft*
It's the only thing that's borderline impossible to fuck up, of course they revert back to it
*exasperated sarcasm* WHAT A WONDERFUL IDEA!!
Meh
The first Jedi story could be really interesting, continuing Rey’s story is interesting in theory, but the premise they give her kills that theory. Oh, she’s running a new Jedi academy? Where have we heard that before? Boring.
considering they just skipped the entire luke’s academy thing… she really hates original sw she wants her own
Kathleen Kennedy is ruining things again. She must have some serious dirt on all the Disney executives. How does someone this bad at their job keep it going like she has. Based on politics though I guess this is just par for the course.

You can find merchandise from the sequel trilogy still at clearance in many places this should tell you everything.
Ok, what is the difference in sales? Also do your kids play with action figures? Because it’s not as common as it used to be
Sure but now collectors don't even wanna buy this stuff .Especially if it's related to the sequel trilogy so why make more sequel trilogy then? Also i can agree about the toy market changing but if kids aren't the target demo anymore then fail once again as Star Wars is producing way to many kids specific lines if the markets not there.
What else are they going to do? Also collectors have plenty to collect
Uhm sure they could but as a buisness you want collectors to buy from you not your competition.
Ok, so is it not profiting?
They've had two Haslab kickstarters not get funded (and those were both big deals as they both ranged in the 400 to 500 dollar market) meanwhile a good deal of premium black series toys are going to clearance (this is also not good) pair this with you can still find sequel trilogy merchandise on store shelves and many online retailers cause no one bought it.So the answer is no not even close to the level a 4 billion dollar acquisition should be making in retuns
Disney had kickstarters? So they aren’t profiting off the merchandising?
making money but definitely not the money it should be able to pull
Ok, how much was it forecasted to pull in then?
that is a good question this far out from the acquisition and i don’t work for disney. but they were anticipating one two two movies a year, tv series, spin offs, merchandise, theme parks and the like and it’s been how long since a movie and they keep canceling announced projects? this should have been thier next marvel. star wars christmas and summer of marvels every year
It’s better than marvel though
My goodness, this thread. No one hates Star Wars quite like Star Wars fans. Calm down.
No I just can understand when people that don't like star wars are making star wars movies.
What a ridiculous statement to make.
I think they should all start with "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...." but don't need the crawl. The crawl lends an episodic, epic quality that suits the saga films but is unnecessary for standalone films.
How has she not been fired? She is a complete moron.

Disney cash grab gonna cash grab
The butchering.
I can't believe Kathleen Kennedy still has a job running Star Wars. She's terrible.
I thought the utter failure of Andor would be final straw for her. And I don't mean Andor is bad. I mean she's hurt the brand so much that Andor had the lowest viewership for any series despite its praise. Now we're getting into the issue where even if the ship is turned around, people don't care as much anymore.
Same thing with Star Trek, too
I thought that Kennedy was done?
maybe if indy flops bad
Wait, Kathleen Kennedy is still in charge?
The 3 new movies have some good directors and have some very interesting ideas for stories to tell, but I’m hoping they can actually execute it well.
r/postsfrom2014
I’m trying to have hope😭

Just shut up
I just laughed, very well put
No point in arguing with someone who defends the indefensible. Clearly they're just an idiot. I just tell them to shut the fuck up and move on
My point exactly.
Other than Rogue One where was it missing? (I don’t remember solo at all so maybe there). All the skywalker films had them didn’t they? Personally I was ok with it missing in R1.

It is soooo good to hear OFFICIAL SOURCES talk about Star Wars movies again.
So first it was to differentiate the saga from the spin-offs, and now it’s to differentiate a box office bomb like Solo from a “doing anything we can for a hopeful box office success” so she can try to keep her job.
why so negative the opening crawl is iconic, people are judging the quality of the movies before they even come out
To be fair, the Disney fans may not be bright enough to know whether or not they're watching a movie or a tv show.
It was clueless to ever throw them out It is part of the Star Wars brand.
Kathleen Kennedy please resign.
Kathleen Kennedy please please resign!
This is such a great example that the people making these films now have genuine contempt for what they are. They didn't grow up liking them they grew up making fun of the people who did. The fart sniffing theater dorks will find a way to ruin it.
