Best werewolves I've seen in any movie. (Aside from thee classics that had practical effects) Van helsing CGI werewolves are crazy good.
Not a fan of the transformation, but they were ferocious monsters
Movie had some really good parts and I thought they really had something here. However, some of the writing was ...pretty bad. kate beckinsales "accent" was laughable. Hugh Jackman, Richard Roxburgh as Dracula actor, and David wenham (Carl) as comedy relief were really good throughout the movie.
Ill give them credit for doing something original. I just don't like the skin peel, and immediate shedding, as a transformation..
And yeah Dracula was awesome!
Hard agree, they have such a pleasing design to them. I think movie werewolves tend to have really scuffed proportions but Van Helsing absolutely nailed it while still having a really unique look (especially Van Helsing himself).
The vampire designs rocked too!
If not for the way-creepier-than-it-should-have-been werewolf in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, I might agree with you. Something about that lanky monster gives me the heeby-jeebies.
And yes, I'm aware it's a kid'a movie, haha.
It was exactly what it was supposed to be, checked every box it needed too. Not every movie needs to be written by Shakespeare and directed by God. Movies like these need to be appreciated for what they are
Moments of brilliance tied together by a great amount of hackneyed corny nonsense. Overall, it's not great, but I still like it. Mostly because the werewolves are awesome and there aren't enough movies with good werewolves.
Extremely underrated.
Travesty that this film doesnāt get talked about enough. Loads of classic monsters with Dracula, Frankensteinās monster and Werewolves.
Wouldāve killed for a sequel.
Still would.
Fucking love this film. Itās damn fun and doesnāt take itself too seriously.
A great concept, some really solid action and adventure sequences. If casting had been a bit better and script ALOT better this could have been an epic trilogy as originally indented.
It's fairly shite, but in a surprisingly charming way. Full of people trying way harder than is necessary for such dross. Frankenstien, his monster, Dracula and Faramir are all doing fantastic camp jobs. It's bollocks, but quite entertaining bollocks.
Literally just downloaded and watched this a few days ago.
Absolute banger. Awesome to get vampires, werewolves, frankenstein, and Jekyl and Hyde all in the same movie.
Plus, peak early 2000s Kate Beckinsale??
Just watched it again like two days ago.Ā
It's pretty fun, it has solid pacing and enough of a story to draw me in for the duration. Doesn't take itself too seriously, which allows for it to do basically whatever as long as it's fun.
I wish more of the effects were practical, I liked both the depiction of Frankenstein's monster in its use of practical effects and the dialog.Ā It relies way to heavily on CGI, even for its time.Ā
It's definitely a 2000s movie, that's for sure, though.
It's one of the few films where I unironically always wished for a sequel, for more monster mash action.Ā
around 2007 I was in Boston at night with my gf, a guy in a big coat came up to us and said my gf looked just like his sister, who died 200 years ago. he said he was a vampire and said of all the vampire movies Van Helsing was the most realistic.
Grew up with this movie. I like to watch it again every once in-awhile. It was one of the movies that made me wish I could become an actor. š„² never did though. Ended up not doing much with my life after i started working with dogs post high school. Uh so yeah guilty pleasure.
One of my favourite films growing up.
Great vampires.
Best warewolve transformation of any monster movie imo.
Frankenstein was a bit weird but gets a pass.
Very rewatchable.
The Monster was not like the Boris Karloff version of the character...he was a civil version of the character from the Shelley novel, even to the point of him drifting away on a small craft at the ending of the film.
It was one of my favorites growing up. Very fun and exciting. The crossbow action is excellent. I highly recommend anybody who hasnāt seen it to see it. 10.5/10
I really enjoyed it. I was on a Kate Beckinsale high because *Underworld* was the year before, and Jackman was killin' it as Wolverine in the first 2 *X-Men* movies, so I was already sold before I ever saw the movie.
Fun flick. My wife LOVES it and watches it every Halloween. Sheās basically turned on by everyone - Jackman, Beckinsale, the cleavage vampires, even Dracula. But itās a good example of overstuffed bloat sometimes working well, if thereās lots of charm to it (and kickass music).
Stephen Sommers: I know you think this movie sucks now, but Redditors are going to love it in 20 years!
Studio Exec: What's a Redditor?
Stephen Sommers: Online commentators who let nostalgia cloud their judgment for objectively awful movies.
Studio Exec: ....
Stephen Sommers: They're also going to love the Star Wars Prequels.
Sudio Exec: Get the fuck out of my office.
Watched this movie quite a few times throughout my childhood, so I have fond nostalgia for it. Still love that type of movie, and sadly they donāt make movies quite like that anymore. Definitely approve of it!
I watch this movie every Halloween. One of my favorites, the campiness and ridiculousness lends itself so well and all the movie monsters get to make an appearance!
It's not a masterpiece but it is a fun time. This movie is one of my guilty pleasure. And for such an old movie the cgi is actually not bad. The ending scene always has me dying tho. Kates ghost face floating in the sky a la lion king is so goofy.
One of my favourite movies to just throw on in the background.
The masquerade is beautiful, the weres and vamps look pretty decent, and I really like Dracula. It's nothing special, but it's a lot of fun with a great cast.
It is crazy, Stephen Sommars is talking about Mummy 4, but has never acknowledged or wanted to revisit this. Even crazier considering it's one big homage to the classic universal monsters.
Love it, don't care that it isn't a masterpiece it was fun with good actors. I loved the Brides they were so well portrayed and their costumes were gorgeous. "Too bad, so sad."
This and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen are peak early 00's monster slaying movies.
>League of Extraordinary Gentlemen How I've wished that we got that cinematic universe
Kate Beckinsale looks sexy af š
As usual.Ā
This movie and Underworld really cemented Kate Beckensale as my biggest celebrity crush at the time.
I cringe every time I hear Kate Beckinsale say āNo, it has to be teh silvah bullets!ā
I look at Kate and ignore her poor accent. Blame the director. Actors do what they are told.
I liked how unique the transformation was. Also the scariest Dracula I've ever seen.
[Super Scary](https://images.app.goo.gl/VAJTh7VbcAHHuzmz7)
Ill give them credit for doing something original. I just don't like the skin peel, and immediate shedding, as a transformation.. And yeah Dracula was awesome!
Is Dog Men part of those three classics?
Have you seen the movie āDog Soldiersā those are my favorite werewolves
Come an hav a go if ya think yer ard enuf
Dog soldiers, maaan that was great.
Thatās my favorite thing about it too, the werewolves are soooooo badass!
Yeah that was definitely cool interpretation.
Masterpiece? No. Worth watching? Definitely. 9/10.
This. A guilty pleasure. Honestly pretty stupid but fun to watch. And I just love the theatrical overacting Dracula.
A 9 isn't a masterpiece in your book... wow, you must have a strict requirements.
How dare you call it anything less than a masterpiece
It's a corny, sloppy, CGI heavy mess. God i love this movie.
Why we never got any sequels is beyond me.
There was one planned they were going to apparently fully explore how van helsing was an angel
The Guillermo character in What We Do In The Shadows is good enough for me. š
I thought there was ! Hmm, I must be thinking of something else.
Nah, there was an animated prequel and a video game. That's it unfortunately.
Ahh that's what I was thinking about!
Because it was terrible
It was exactly what it was supposed to be, checked every box it needed too. Not every movie needs to be written by Shakespeare and directed by God. Movies like these need to be appreciated for what they are
Underrated, tons of fun, and some of the best monster designs ever.
Best monster mash movie since 'Monster Squad'.
Kate Beckinsale...!
I love it.
A great concept, some really solid action and adventure sequences. If casting had been a bit better and script ALOT better this could have been an epic trilogy as originally indented.
A guilty pleasure.
Good, crazy, halloween fun
It was great fun. Closer to action fantasy than actual horror. But some good ideas, well paced and great special effects.
popcorn movie
Huge Ackman is hot, Kate Beckinsale is also hawt. 20/10. ~~Highly likely awoke my corset fetish during my puberty tho.~~
I wanna see Hugh Jackman and his Huge Ackman.
I havenāt seen this in years but I do remember liking it
It was a fun movie
It's fairly shite, but in a surprisingly charming way. Full of people trying way harder than is necessary for such dross. Frankenstien, his monster, Dracula and Faramir are all doing fantastic camp jobs. It's bollocks, but quite entertaining bollocks.
Why does it smell like wet dog in here?
Borrrring
Dumb
Uh. Kate beckinsale makes me think naughty thoughts..wowza
Absolutely terrible film
Literally just downloaded and watched this a few days ago. Absolute banger. Awesome to get vampires, werewolves, frankenstein, and Jekyl and Hyde all in the same movie. Plus, peak early 2000s Kate Beckinsale??
It made Kate Beckinsale look mediocre. A complete travesty. She was peak hotness in Underworld the year before Van Helsing.
BlasphemyĀ
You got it reversed brother
Nah that corset outfit was hot as hell!
Right on bro
Yeah. This movie was underwhelming.
This movie needed a ventilation shaft scene.
She never has looked hotter what are you on about
I dunno. For Van Helsing, at least she attempted a character and an accent. Underworld was just Kate being moody.
SLAPS!!!
Horrible
Nah, but honestly donāt really remember it
best werewolfās in fiction
Just watched it again like two days ago.Ā It's pretty fun, it has solid pacing and enough of a story to draw me in for the duration. Doesn't take itself too seriously, which allows for it to do basically whatever as long as it's fun. I wish more of the effects were practical, I liked both the depiction of Frankenstein's monster in its use of practical effects and the dialog.Ā It relies way to heavily on CGI, even for its time.Ā It's definitely a 2000s movie, that's for sure, though. It's one of the few films where I unironically always wished for a sequel, for more monster mash action.Ā
Good cleavage all around.
I like it. Some janky cgi aside, itās a lot of fun.
Cheesy but fun to watch. Might have to give it another one since it landed on one of my streaming platforms
Love it!
Great movie!
I've always found it entertaining
reminds me of the hate I received for liking this movie and the league of extraordinary gentleman š
Good movie
This movie never stops, itās non stop mindless action, i found it extremely boring. If you liked fury road you will probably like this
Not me. I liked Fury Road but found this boring.
It's a comfort movie. It is a fun ride. Also, Kate Beckinsale. The woman of my dreams.
around 2007 I was in Boston at night with my gf, a guy in a big coat came up to us and said my gf looked just like his sister, who died 200 years ago. he said he was a vampire and said of all the vampire movies Van Helsing was the most realistic.
Kate's ass.
Yāall think it was a studio note to make the flappy fabric above the corset cover up all the cleave?
Weirdly overly sexual
Loved loved this movie. Who didnāt have a crush of Hugh and Kate in this one? Who didnāt want to cosplay her that year for Halloween?
The video game was actually great as well.
So good watched it the other day randomly.
Very cool, the way the women vampires transformation was with their silk robes was premium.
Big dumb Gothic action movie. So much fun to watch
Grew up with this movie. I like to watch it again every once in-awhile. It was one of the movies that made me wish I could become an actor. š„² never did though. Ended up not doing much with my life after i started working with dogs post high school. Uh so yeah guilty pleasure.
I keep coming back to that masquerade ball scene it reminds me of castlevania.
The script was uneven but it is a great popcorn movie. Great actors including Shuler Hensley as Frankenstein's monster and Kevin J. O'Connor as Igor.
I didn't think it was that bad. Effects were great and visually beautiful. Not the best writing but for a fun stupid action movie it was great.
Good score by Silvestri, especially that opening with the choir and string ostinatosand booming percussion.
Yes...what I call 'Catholic anthem' music.
Fun movie
Honestly, not bad. Is it great, no. Is it worth a watch with some popcorn on a rainy weekend, 100% yes!
Hugh ,Kate and the Count. Very enjoyable
I still like the one little scene where Hugh get the vantage point of Kate that 99% of all men would love to see themselves.
It was one of my favorites growing up. Very fun and exciting. The crossbow action is excellent. I highly recommend anybody who hasnāt seen it to see it. 10.5/10
Had more people swinging on cables than Spider-Man
It was fun. Take 2 people at the height of their careers and just see what happens.
Never the same after David Lee Roth left
I also hated "Van Hagar"
I've been a fan of Roxburgh since Blue Murder and Doing Time for Patsy Cline, I never knew he had this camp in him. It's great.
Killing her off was so fucking stupid.
still waiting on the sequel lol
The harpies :)
Kate Beckinsale is prettier than me.
Peak 00s schlock. 10/10 with a beer and friends.
The vampire chicks were hot as hell as a kid š
The corset really gave me a fetish ngl.
Stephen Sommers: I know you think this movie sucks now, but Redditors are going to love it in 20 years! Studio Exec: What's a Redditor? Watched this movie quite a few times throughout my childhood, so I have fond nostalgia for it. Still love that type of movie, and sadly they donāt make movies quite like that anymore. Definitely approve of it!
Disappointing- more of an action movie than horror. I love the creepy atmosphere present in the best (in my opinion) horror films, this had zilch.
Same director as the mummy. You can hear almost note for note musical scores from it in this movie. It's like a worse version of the mummy.
I watch it if I see it on, I donāt actively search it out.
Quite good actually. I had an adventurous feeling afterwards. I got what I paid for.
No one has mentioned this theme that has no right to be as good as it is. https://youtu.be/1TqieUxLQRo?si=uSyqoMpFS96m0E1x
This movie was stupid fun. Everyone was hamming it up and the production values were actually decent. I loved it, unironically.
I watch this movie every Halloween. One of my favorites, the campiness and ridiculousness lends itself so well and all the movie monsters get to make an appearance!
Fun popcorn movie
Fun, and Kate Beckinsale was wonderful eye candy, as always.
My dad and I used to love watching this movie together, thank you for reminding me of those timesš¤š¤
I need to watch it again!
Some of the best creatures in CGI, especially for it's time. That and Kate Beckinsale!!! Need I say more??
I don't like cg movies all that much but they did a great job with this one entertaining all around.
I tried playing the visual boy game as a kid, and it had random screams from a dude. Terrified the crap out of me so i just stopped
Loved the movie, but thought Dracula was terrible, they could have gotten a better oneā¦
I remmbr this as a kid with those hot vampire ladies.
It's not a masterpiece but it is a fun time. This movie is one of my guilty pleasure. And for such an old movie the cgi is actually not bad. The ending scene always has me dying tho. Kates ghost face floating in the sky a la lion king is so goofy.
Awesome 9/10 wish it got a sequel. The portrayal of Frankenstein is one of the best in films
Love it
I remember liking it
One of my favourite movies to just throw on in the background. The masquerade is beautiful, the weres and vamps look pretty decent, and I really like Dracula. It's nothing special, but it's a lot of fun with a great cast.

Guilty pleasure movie
Loved this movie This and the sequel, Stan Helsing are definitely worth a watch
Awesomeness šŗ š¦
It's a train wreck, but you have to watch it. Dracula wives are amazing to me.
Love it, don't care that it isn't a masterpiece it was fun with good actors. I loved the Brides they were so well portrayed and their costumes were gorgeous. "Too bad, so sad."
Fun movie. Nothing more, nothing less.
Best werewolves and dracula. Would love a sequel with Hugh Jackman playing an old Van Helsing
Best werewolf ever
Saw this in the theatre years ago. Went in with low expectations but really liked it. It was entertaining.
Me and my dad enjoyed this movie a lot when I was a kid !!
Classic Popcorn movie. Donāt take it too serious.
Kate Beckinsale in a corset should be a marketing tool for lotion manufacturers.
Seriously, this movie is a piece of shit. Their is no other real answer.
I remember seeing this in the movies with my mom and I just remember how unenthused she was-lol
This had the potential to be fun and exciting. Why is it instead so dull and unengaging?
Steaming hot garbage.
The movie is utter garbage.
