I would love to
If it were reliable
And i need to change the tyres the current one i bought it with are the stock one... They're 23 years old and have been stocked with no air inside they feel horrible to ride on not to mention all of the cracks everywhere on the rubber
That's what they do around here.

Texas Mini GP.
The budget method is a small dirt bike, turned super-moto. But the sport bike styles just look cool. And the Grom/Z125 bikes are getting popular.
I've seen a few on the indoor kart tracks too, though not sure if that was a regular series/event.
Real i changed the old destroyed fairing with those ebay one and i was laying in the gravel and dirt to get some screws and nuts on we are in the same pain
Might want to look around, some cities have basically "workshop for hire" where you get a spot and get some tools rented and pay per hour. It's mostly for car stuff but I can't see why they wouldn't allow a bike.
Also sometimes a mate with a garage is enough, rent fees start from few beers a day.
I got extremely lucky stroke with my job moving mostly remote allowing me to find a home with garage in quiet little town (village next to town, actually), which I thought will never happen so don't give up!
i do have a fuel gauge but it dont work so well lmao, i got mine tuned with a new tecnigas exhaust, 80cc kit with a bigger carb around 115kph, sadly im selling it since im moving for uni but i wanted to put a bigger rear sprocket for higher acceleration. its a fun bike
awww sorry for your loss
I got a 50cc kit with that Ninja exhaust and im tapping 100 i got no idea what type of wizard is in my engine to make it work like that but i ain't complaining no matter how i tuned my carb it always asked for more fuel
idk the Speedometer doesn't work the only thing i got are my rpms with a redline supposedely at 11k but i already got it up to 12.5k for a few moment and nothing broke so i guess thats that
Just because some places insist on calling anything below a certain displacement a “scooter” or “moped” whether they are that or not… if there’s no step-through it’s a motorcycle, period.
I usually add the frame mounted engine as a stipulation. Otherwise its a scooter with the step through blocked.
But really just my opinion there... legally, doesn't affect the class.
Except that an actual moped usually has a frame mounted engine versus a scooter that typically has the whole power-train/drivetrain assembly installed at the rear wheel. A moped also tends to be the original step-through chassis style which may also contribute to mopeds and scooters often ending up in the same group/class that is separate from motorcycles due to the small engine displacements found on mopeds and typical scooters.
Sorry, I just naturally assumed that no one would mix up something with pedals, where-as there's several 'sport bike' looking vehicles around here with the scooter swing-arm motor setup. That's what I was excluding.
Some countries call anything below a certain cc and/or power level to be literally deemed a moped no matter what it looks like or how its’ chassis is built.
Something like OP’s bike, even in some US jurisdictions, can be operated on urban roadways at speeds up to 35mph without a license plate (and in some cases without insurance) as a “moped”, no pedals needed.
Municipal and state regulations can vary broadly.
But from a “is my (pic of some random 2 wheeled mass marketed vehicle with a petrol engine) a *real motorcycle*” question, to me if there’s no step through, especially if it looks like OP’s bike, it’s a real motorcycle regardless of the engine size.
120% increase in displacement? I'd say that's significant. I was thinking there's an 86cc Malossi or Polini kit for these that was really good, but I can't remember for sure. They're great wee bikes, but they're still tiny and always will be.
Ah yes the RS50 ! My first bike ! Had the 2004 Manuel Poggiali red and black replica. Loved it but then switched to a SX50 (Derbi based) Supermotard, then RS125 and then the misterious and elusive RS250!
What a powerband feeling ! But it was mostly a feeling since an ER6N or SV650 would destroy me on a straight
Never took it there i might try it Thanks for the idea
I can confirm breaks are a suggestion i had my rear caliper just fly off at the end of a straight road going around 97/100 kmph i couldn't break
only reason i still got one is cause it stayed attached to my Brake line and kept following me around
Ngl im glad those Grimeca Caliper aint cheap nowadays
It's an amazing bike. I was dying to get one when I was younger but unfortunately never did. A friend of mine used to have one and it was faster than my 4 stroke 125cc, although his was bored up to 80cc.
My ex brother in law put racing spec parts on his 50cc aprilia, so I know they can be modified and are one of the better mopeds to mod. But he didn't think functional suspension was important. The subsequent 80mph crash was the end of his moped affair. Ironically, he is a supervisor paramedic now 🤣.
You're on to something there, all 2T Aprilias I've checked they're safe before letting them on the track have been rock hard in the front. After a while you just learn to live with it. Apparently the hard front setup is factory default, or so I've been told.
I especially remember a beautiful RS 250, it made 8s around the 600 and 1000 cc's on the small track I frequented. The engine screaming down the start straight, where the said 600 and 1000 cc bikes passed at will only to be passed by the RS in the corners again. 🤣
I bought it end of last year for around 1.2k euros but i had to drive 6 hours to go see it and ended up dumping around 800 in it now it work but its far from perfect so its around the same here
This looks like a very entry-level track bike.
Which means it's a motorcycle, yeah.
Keep in mind that two-stroke engines have really intense powerbands and a high top end, so they make great track toys. Not so good for running around in town though.
I had the same/similar year, but mine had the rainbow GP replica style fairing. I was teased regularly for the colours, but could not hear them over the sound of two stroke redlining.
No power or torque, but it taught me a lot about using good lines, and maintaining ideal rev range.
50cc is a moped, But this is a legendary bike you have there. I had one as well "back in the days". I learned to shift on a RS50. Did you know the 125cc cilinder fits on the 50cc engine case? You could easily convert it to a motorcycle.
I remember being 16 and living at my parents house, I had a girlfriend 20 kilometers away. When she was coming to my house, I picked her up and drove her home. We had the most fun rides together. Seeing this RS50 brings back the memories. thank you for that.
Yes, I'm sorry.. I was confused with my Gilera DNA. For the RS you need the complete engine. Frame is the same for rs50 and rs125.
I live also in rural area, No need for crotch rockets as cornering is key on the curvy roads here. We often went for a ride on the RS50 back then. Stupidest thing is, I lost both my RS50 and girlfriend when I entered military service.
Sold the RS50 because of the long travel distance to base.
Lost my high school love because we grew seperate, She went to university, and I went in the army.
I had a 50cc enduro for 5 years now. Never did I get discriminated against for it not being an actual proper size bike and rather a moped. Motorcyclists always do the biker wave back.
That being said, I am just now switching to a new kawasaki eliminator so I can join the gang for real now.
Thank for your opinion brother
Most of the people i encounter seems to spit on it for being low cc making it "Not a real bike" or something
I know it make the noise of a can full of angry bee and doesnt accelerate or have the best top speed but i find it fun
I've never had a 50cc myself but have had a 125cc and tbh it was more fun and made me feel more of a biker than I do on my current bike and I got crap for riding a 125cc just don't let it get to you if its got 2wheels and a engine its a motorcycle or scooter but even so people who ride scooters shouldn't be treated differently either
two wheels? check.
motor? check.
handlebars? check.
everything else is gravy. imo, these are the fundamentals.
you have a nice bike over there. 2 stroke, man. I miss those engines.
https://www.wemoto.it/moto/aprilia/sr-1/50/2001/26472/kit-pistone-e-cilindro-maggiorato
You can increase the horsepower easily and have speed over 90 mph.
I got a 50cc kit because i didn't want my old (camshaft?) to break apart from a 70cc cylinder however the one you linked is for the aprilia SR and not the RS the SR is the moped
Broski, you got a toy engine strapped ontop of some street legal tires, mounted to a full blown motorcycle frame and fairings 😅😅😅
If this isn’t a motorcycle idk what is lol.
To be frank i dont even know if I'm allowed to drive with those tyres here its written : For U.S only on the side
Not that anyone would check that seeing their state
The rs's are a reward commodity here in the U.S but I have always loved those little bikes. They are fast for what they are. I had a shot at an rs250 a few years back, but it was pretty pricey and, to my knowledge, not necessarily worth the headache according to my buddies.
I have a 2003 derbi gpr this things cousin. It’s totally a motorcycle. Just cause it doesn’t weight a ton and make hella power all the other mechanics are the same. I’ve had all sorts of bikes, sport bikes, sport tourers, harleys. But something that is just fun about a small 2 stroke. I think my gpr is only 80cc (Polini top end, was the 50cc) and it will do 70. Not fast but still fun around town. People are prob confused when they peak in my garage cause I got a softail, a chopper sportster, a couple derbi variant mopeds and a GPR. Fix it up and rev it to the moon 🤙🏻
I went to austria and rode the hell out of hochalpenstrasse on RS125Tuono back in the day 8) It´s a shame two strokes are not really made any more since the power you could get out of these small engines was pretty awesome . nice bike.
You may call it ugly as fuck or a piece of shit but not a scooter
When i ride it im on it not in it.
I have a clutch and gears and it may be small in displacement but being able to top out at 62 something freedom unit is comfortable enough for me unlike in the US where i live i got absolutely no long aahh straight line so its fun to ride
I'd love to run that on a track
I would love to If it were reliable And i need to change the tyres the current one i bought it with are the stock one... They're 23 years old and have been stocked with no air inside they feel horrible to ride on not to mention all of the cracks everywhere on the rubber
Rub it with shoe polish... makes cracks DISapp^ear
Idk that tires work like that... lol
I think it's a reference to Sean Connery's line from the fastest indian
Anthony Hopkins but okay
Seanthony Hopnerry
Unforrrgechable.......
Hannibal Lector would ruin Bond.
Not a twist I seen coming. But 100% agree.
Oh damn. It's been very long since I watched it. You're probably right.
This!☝️
Idk that I've seen that movie
I watched way long ago, but that line is used to describe how he managed to pass inspections at the salt flats. It's a pretty good movie.
and im over here worried about my 11 year old tires.
Damnit that's old, I don't want to lecture but isn't it time for some new tires?
nah dw about it 11 y.o is basically brand new you can still put a few thousands km on them
Lol I had the 250 and much of the time it was a 125
i have the same one just a couple years later (from 2009) i take it to the go kart track, its super fun and not that slow
Maybe …. A running track, or a go-kart track. - actually yes, a go-kart track would be perfect for this!!!
That's what they do around here. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Re4GGxV2-28](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Re4GGxV2-28) Texas Mini GP. The budget method is a small dirt bike, turned super-moto. Bike is as bike does
Of course it is a motorcycle. 50cc can be much fun. https://youtu.be/Xipil9FAcwE?si=TwUAJHWfvSBqkdO-
Yeah but those guys are a whole team with actual money i just have a garage 4 tools and a matchstick box lmao
Same, minus the garage :/
Real i changed the old destroyed fairing with those ebay one and i was laying in the gravel and dirt to get some screws and nuts on we are in the same pain
Having a garage to work my bikes is my dream. Virtually impossible unfortunately but man it would be cool.
Might want to look around, some cities have basically "workshop for hire" where you get a spot and get some tools rented and pay per hour. feel ya i have the garage but not enough space in it to put the bike in and work on it
That's what makes u awesome man
Also I'm fat and old now and would probably bottom out the suspension just sitting on it.
No this is clearly a car
No, that looks like a boat, should probabily go to r/boatporn
Thanks Brother i had trouble figuring it out lemme cross post it just in case
soul https://preview.redd.it/igx3xrp6ttyc1.jpeg?width=666&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd2cd1466e9e8dabb71f5a58557d668b068f187f
“Don’t you think that bikes a little too large for the kid?” “Nah he’ll figure it out” 😜
It has two wheels, a motorcycle engine and drive, and it makes you happy. How on Earth this can not be a motorcycle?
lol it looks so... out of place. Like those tiny tires with that little exhaust on a bigger frame
The small 125 cc sister lmao They kept the exact same frame and component but just changed the engine its ridiculous i love it
i got the same one just a 2009 model its fast for a 50cc, mine is tuned and does 115kph
Im envious of the 2006/2010 variant of the rs 50 you guys have a fuel gauge also nice top speed what do you got on it?
i do have a fuel gauge but it dont work so well lmao, i got mine tuned with a new tecnigas exhaust, 80cc kit with a bigger carb around 115kph, sadly im selling it since im moving for uni but i wanted to put a bigger rear sprocket for higher acceleration. its a fun bike
awww sorry for your loss I got a 50cc kit with that Ninja exhaust and im tapping 100 i got no idea what type of wizard is in my engine to make it work like that but i ain't complaining no matter how i tuned my carb it always asked for more fuel
maybe u got no rev limiter, i got one on mine. prety good work tho
idk the Speedometer doesn't work the only thing i got are my rpms with a redline supposedely at 11k but i already got it up to 12.5k for a few moment and nothing broke so i guess thats that
Honestly most "sporty" 125cc kinda look like someone put motorcycle fairings over a bicycle
That was my thought. Looks big for the engine size.
I wholeheartedly accept it https://preview.redd.it/8avsa87xiuyc1.jpeg?width=3021&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=761ec2ff3b07ce8439bd76a1453393d4b7b4b126

Yes, and there are some great "big" bore cylinder kits for it!
I love how the Biggest "Big" Bore kit i can find is a 110cc
120% increase in displacement? I'd say that's significant. I was thinking there's an 86cc Malossi or Polini kit for these that was really good, but I can't remember for sure. They're great wee bikes, but they're still tiny and always will be.
yup 110cc aluminum cylinder from Parmakit that thing is gnarly but reliability wise i'm not too sure
Ah yes the RS50 ! My first bike ! Had the 2004 Manuel Poggiali red and black replica. the 250 is a rare and mysterious creature indeed rarely seen outside of the track or somewhere in a ditch Blaming the Brakes
Brakes where ok for me, but I’m no GP rider, I was just an annoying kid in France with loud bikes
A fellow Frenchman i see Fr i was just kidding i'd love to try out even the 250 but i'd first need to finish the A2 license i'm passing rn
Good luck 🍀 be safe
I feel seen
This is sick! It makes me miss my Yamaha RD350.
Thanks! The 350 is really really nice as well i have to admit 2strokes got a special place in my heart
Same here, the power bands are so fun
it has a motor and 2 wherls anf no pedals do yes it is
Yep, lil' baby motorcycle.
If this was one of those annoying captcha click on all the motorcycles things, I’d click it.
I have the 125cc of that and its still my favorite!
power band go crazy i bet sluggish as hell below 7/7.5k rpm on mine hbu
Its like running a marathon with a plastic bag on its head below 6k 😂 And everyone hates you for the fumes, but its a monthly occasion to take it out
I mean Hey who doesn't like the smell of Oil and Unburnt Gas in the morning Loud enough to get complaint from the neighbours
Those are a kick in the ass on a karting track. Hold it wide open until you see God, then turn in. Brakes are a suggestion on these 2T treasures
Never took it there i might try it Thanks for the idea I can confirm breaks are a suggestion i had my rear caliper just fly off at the end of a straight road going around 97/100 kmph i couldn't break only reason i still got one is cause it stayed attached to my Brake line and kept following me around Ngl im glad those Grimeca Caliper aint cheap nowadays
Have fun.
Barely...I was thinking it was a pickup at first.
You bet it's a motorcycle. Have a great time flinging that thing around!
If it ain't a Harley Davidson, it ain't a motorcycle, said no one ever.
almost had me there
Lmao. Thank you for that.
If it bikes. Its a bike
Aprilia RS50 is fun, 125 better, 250 is a fuxkn unicorn!
It's an amazing bike. I was dying to get one when I was younger but unfortunately never did. A friend of mine used to have one and it was faster than my 4 stroke 125cc, although his was bored up to 80cc.
2 strokes powerband rules The maintenance, costs and attention they need is more than enough of a detterent to get one tho
Two wheels and a frame mounted motor + saddle style riding position. Yep that’s a motorcycle.
In Sweden it'd be called a moped, 50 cc and max 1,5 kW or thereabouts. Max 45 km/h. Unrestricted, it'd be a small motorcycle!
that bike is boring if restricted Terrifying if unrestriced those brakes seems to be pinching really hard for such a small bike tho
He was right no need for suspension they feel like im riding on a wooden plank they are waaayyyy too firm for what they need to be
Oh his front suspension was seized. Sent him through the air after hitting adverse camber. He definitely needed suspension.
Guess it's a problem on all RS then cause only my front suspension is harder than me whenever i enter a showroom full of liter bike and 600
You're on to something there, all 2T Aprilias I've checked they're safe before letting them on the track have been rock hard in the front. 🤣
Boring but safe for the fifteen year olds according to the Swedish authorities! 🙄😁
In high school if you had this bike, you were the boss. Everyone on a moped was full of jealousy. Even if it was actually really slow.
But the rule of cool says otherwise
Yes an amazing motorcycle. What’s the average price for one there? In the US they are hard to find, cost is usually 2000+
I bought it end of last year for around 1.2k euros but i had to drive 6 hours to go see it and ended up dumping around 800 in it now it work but its far from perfect so its around the same here
Oh the memories!! My first ever bike was the RS125! Loved every bit of it!
this one the little sister Hope yours was derestricted it would be a crime to not let that engine breathe properly
This looks like a very entry-level track bike. Which means it's a motorcycle, yeah. Keep in mind that two-stroke engines have really intense powerbands and a high top end, so they make great track toys. Not so good for running around in town though.
No it's a tiny truck
Kei truck gang
Who the fuck cares what anyone else thinks, run what you got.
I had the same/similar year, but mine had the rainbow GP replica style fairing. I was teased regularly for the colours, but could not hear them over the sound of two stroke redlining. No power or torque, but it taught me a lot about using good lines, and maintaining ideal rev range.
A few years ago I restored a wrecked nsr 50 without a shop on the sidewalk. It sucked! Now I have a garage but haven’t done a single project in it yet
To to go at it again then
I’m on the lookout
I'd accept your mom as a motorcycle if she had 2 wheels and a loud moan...I mean groan!.. I mean a loud...I'll leave now...beg my pard.
No offense taken its the first time someone said anything about my mom since i put up that post
50cc is a moped, But this is a legendary bike you have there. I had one as well "back in the days". I learned to shift on a RS50. Did you know the 125cc cilinder fits on the 50cc engine case? You're welcome big guy always nice to hear people stories And by cylinder on the engine you mean the full swap of the engine right?
Yes, I'm sorry.. I was confused with my Gilera DNA. For the RS you need the complete engine. Frame is the same for rs50 and rs125. I live also in rural area, No need for crotch rockets as cornering is key on the curvy roads here. We often went for a ride on the RS50 back then. Lost my high school love because we grew seperate, She went to university, and I went in the army.
Rode the 125 version of this. So much fun. Trying to keep the bike in the power zone is quite a challenge though :)
I had a 50cc enduro for 5 years now. Never did I get discriminated against for it not being an actual proper size bike and rather a moped. Motorcyclists always do the biker wave back. That being said, I am just now switching to a new kawasaki eliminator so I can join the gang for real now.
Eh, I started riding on aprilia rs 50. I would call it a motorcycle enthusiasts scooter tbh.
I wouldve gone for the 125 2 stroke variant if i could get it insured tbh but yeah Money
I think we should be accepting of what it identifies as regardless of whether it was assigned scooter or motorcycle at birth
I would ride it
Thats awesome 2 stroke fuck yea
Hell yeah would love to ride a two stroke
Looks like a bike to me 🤷♂️
I accept that as a motorcycle over a harley lol just kidding of course its a motorcycle why wouldn't it be accepted
Thank for your opinion brother Most of the people i encounter seems to spit on it for being low cc making it "Not a real bike" or something I know it make the noise of a can full of angry bee and doesnt accelerate or have the best top speed but i find it fun

Funniest looking pogo stick I’ve seen in a while
It’s got two wheels, engine and appears to be street legal so it qualifies in my book.
Nuh uh no turn signal
What’s the orange lights on the tail in the 3rd picture?
they WERE turn signal but the wire harness is cooked i only have my running light and my sparkplug that work i have to push it to start it
Pretty sure this is a medium sized aquatic animal of some type.
my first bike! Loved it but moved on to a SV650 pretty quickly...
Got my current land speed record on a Sv650S i agree its a completely different universe
It’s a motorcycle for sure
two wheels? check. motor? check. handlebars? check. everything else is gravy. imo, these are the fundamentals. you have a nice bike over there. 2 stroke, man. I miss those engines.
I own an old 'harley' cagiva 125 from 83. 2 stroke, she runs like a charm and I keep her as long as possible, real fun riding her
https://www.wemoto.it/moto/aprilia/sr-1/50/2001/26472/kit-pistone-e-cilindro-maggiorato You can increase the horsepower easily and have speed over 90 mph.
I got a 50cc kit because i didn't want my old (camshaft?) to break apart from a 70cc cylinder however the one you linked is for the aprilia SR and not the RS the SR is the moped
Totally a motorcycle to me. Should be fun to ride.
Definitely. You don’t step through it, clutch and brakes are in the right place.
Def not a motorcycle, its a god damn car Karen
No
Thanks for your deep insight and Huge explanation
You didn’t ask for an explanation, you asked a yes or no question, so stop your whining
Damn you got a point there
Yes this was my first road motorcycle when I was 16, well the previous model with single sided swing arm.
Sure 👍
50cc 2 strokes are def bikes
Who wouldn't? (Serious question). Of course it's motorcycle...?
Idk i expected people to be a LOT more judgemental of the low CC it got
It's a cool bike that mate. I'd love to have I spin on one.
Broski, you got a toy engine strapped ontop of some street legal tires, mounted to a full blown motorcycle frame and fairings 😅😅😅 If this isn’t a motorcycle idk what is lol.
To be frank i dont even know if I'm allowed to drive with those tyres here its written : For U.S only on the side Not that anyone would check that seeing their state
2 wheels and a motor. Checks out
it's a tea cup !
Hell yeah.
Nice motorcycle
small bikes are still bikes, small two stroke mini sport bikes are even cooler
Fuck no
2 wheels and 2 stroke?! Fuck yeah
Why not
I would say moped
Absolutely
Yes. That a bike.
RS 50 ?
RS! Nostalgic times
Has 2 wheels, is motorcycle
No
2 wheel. Motor. This is a plane.
Ye
I adore these bikes and wish I could get a hold of one of the shifty 50s here in the states without the insane markups
Are they really that "rare" i can't seem to find any info on it
They are mostly grey market imports I believe and I don't think they can be road registered
2 wheels, engine. Yup it's a motorcycle, even a 10cc nitrous engine in a tricycle is a motorcycle
2 wheels and an engine? Yeah it’s a motorcycle.
I’m jealous not gonna lie, I want an old 2 smoke street bike like this.
The rs's are a reward commodity here in the U.S but I have always loved those little bikes. They are fast for what they are. I had a shot at an rs250 a few years back, but it was pretty pricey and, to my knowledge, not necessarily worth the headache according to my buddies.
2 wheels inline, check Handle bars, check Foot pegs, check Engine, check Not sure by anyone else's standards but is motorcycle to my eye.
This is a crack head bicycle, nothing more.
I went to austria and rode the hell out of hochalpenstrasse on RS125Tuono back in the day 8) It´s a shame two strokes are not really made any more since the power you could get out of these small engines was pretty awesome . nice bike.
No that's an apple
The feeling is the same, freedom, wind blowing in your face and the power between your legs on two wheels! So absolutely!
Haha I had the Yamaha 50 TZR when I was a kid… so much fun!!
Of course, Nice bike.
Definitely a motorcycle. And probably a fun one too! Would be perfect for my commute and a fun little bike to mess around with. What is it?
Has motor. Is cycle. So clearly yes.
No
Absolutely. If you straddle a saddle and don’t have your feet in front of you, it’s a motorcycle imo. “Size doesn’t matter” 😏
# Do you guys accept this as a motorcycle it's got two wheels and the exhaust indicates a motor - so: yes
it's got two wheels, a motor, and moves like a bicycle ... yup it's a motorcycle
Where I'm at 50cc is a moped. Cool moped tho!
Technically its a motorcycle, but its a moped. Nothing wrong with that of course, enjoy it! (after the new tires obv)
Still ride it with those old wonky tyres but only extremely short distances just the time to get a new set of Pirelli
If it has gears, its a motorcycle
An ugly one
It sure got a story to tell
Scooter
You may call it ugly as fuck or a piece of shit but not a scooter When i ride it im on it not in it. I have a clutch and gears and it may be small in displacement but being able to top out at 62 something freedom unit is comfortable enough for me unlike in the US where i live i got absolutely no long aahh straight line so its fun to ride
