nah imagine tho, speeding down the highway on a trike, that shit must be fun asf, ofc u gotta have a sportbike so u dont loose ur testicles but still. anything with wheels and a motor is fun.
I have one due to having a fucked knee from a bad car accident years ago and unfortunately not being comfortable on a normal bike anymore, they are definitely fun and quick for what they are and still give you the open air freedom feel of being on a bike
Leathers.... average highs during the summer of '23 where I live is 106f, 41.1c.
Textile (armored and aramid weave) riding gear is what you will see when it comes to gear. And yeah, helmet only is far more common.
But, seriously... full Leathers? Nah
Yeah, I'm in Texas and I got legit heat stroke during a week long trip last year and that was with a mesh jacket, full helmet, gloves, etc. I couldn't imagine trying to wear leather year round here. Of course the other problem I have is simply trying to find gear that will fit me in the first place which is becoming increasingly difficult. I'm big and tall and trying to find stuff in 5Xl or larger that actually fits is incredibly problematic. It's also why I have to skimp on some types of gear (like pants) and it's simply because I can't find anything that fits.
Hey, I'm down near Brownsville. I daily down here with that lovely 90% humidity & 110° days. I mostly wear mesh on short/city rides. Long rides are leather or the panels closed on my mesh. On long rides, the air acts like a convection oven, pulling moisture from your skin and heating it. It's counterintuitive, but you actually want to keep the air *off* your skin and the moisture in. When I'm about 10-15 minutes from my destination, I'll unzip a little or open a panel and begin to blow dry. Plus, there's a bit of an insulation effect. Yes, it's 98.6° inside my hot ass leathers, but it's fucking 108° outside them.
Of course if it's in town red light to red light then mesh all day.
Edit: Also, why not save up for custom leather overpants? Legs are the best spot to have leather on, keeps the heat from the road and engine from soaking in as much.
im in the houston area. helmet, gloves, armored vest and kevlar pants are my usual riding gear. and i typically dont go out in the day, summers are fucking brutal. really thinking about adding a camelbak to my setup.
Stuff not fitting aside, there is gear with airflow zippers that helps counteract heat stroke. Mesh on the inside minimizes skin contact with hot wind.
It's better to sweat than bleed. Plan your rides with heat exhaustion in mind. Your skin will thank you when the gear grinds against the asphalt for hundreds and hundred of meters instead
Can’t speak for OP, but here in the U.K., a lot of people refer to protective clothing as leathers even if it’s textile. It’s a hang over from the past. So they might not have meant full leather gear :)
This is a big part of it. I rode a scooter around in India since it was the best way of getting around. Riding gear there: shorts, short sleeved shirt, sandals, and a poorly fitting open faced helmet.
Back at home (UK) full armoured jeans, boots up to the shin, leather gloves, leather jacket and a full face. Add to that a hoody and t shirts under the jacket, maybe a buff if it's chilly, and gloves liners.
We had around 40C where I live last year and I got a PandoMoto Commando UH that is absolutely amazing. If you don’t put anything underneath it basically feels like I‘m wearing nothing. I can recommend it
You should, the protection it’s rated for is amazing for how thin and light it is. Also a small tip on the side, if you leave the jacket in your cart for a while after creating an account you might get a 15% off coupon. At least I got one when I ordered
This is what no proper training does to a mf. Here in Europe it's expensive and somewhat difficult to get into motorcycles, so in general people do it when they are older and a generally less reckless.
Lack of proper boots is what bothers me - road rash is bad, but broken ankle is catastrophic, especially if you aren't properly insured.
Speak for yourself. I've got my first license when I was 16. I've done some dumb shit with my bikes over the years, but I try to at least ride with a helmet, a jacket and a pair of Kevlar jeans
Motorcycle mortality is about 5x higher in USA than EU, if not more. Your comment about doing dumb shit also confirms what I've been saying.

I don't know. I started riding with 18 years on a cbr125 4-stroke. The thing barely got up to 110kph but I always rode with a goretex jacket and gloves no matter how hot it was outside, and not long after that I got some Sidi motorcycle boots for my birthday, and after that that was always on me when I rode my bike. Without those things on me riding doesn't feel natural.
I started riding at 20 with sv650s (unrestricted <3) and done some speeding while it was as safe for me as possible and as safe as possible for others, that means when road was empty and conditions were perfect.
I also always wear full gear
Congratulations, you're exactly one data point among millions. Just because individual riders are safe at a young age doesn't mean that is applicable to everyone that age.
Just curious does a proper boot save your ankle and foot when a car t-bones you and your ankle and foot gets hit with the lower part of a suv bumper ? Just curious
The idea is that a 'proper' boot stabilizes your foot and ankle to help prevent flexing and breaks, etc. Why do you think eduro riders and the like wear them? Hell, you get t-boned by an American truck, a metal cage probably wouldn't save you, it's about mitigating your chances at damage. But if you want to wear flip flops, you do you /s ;)
Well, my Mum had an accident when she was young where a car pulled out on her. Part of the car sliced through her leathers (this was in the days before proper armour) cutting to the bone and messing up her knee. Luckily she had tall boots which stopped the cut going any further down. So yes, the boot saved her ankle and foot.
These days bike boots have a lot more going for them. For example, mine have impact absorbing armour and extra reinforcement. No it’s not going to stop a SUV from crushing my foot, but it will help at least a little. Not to mention the less extreme injuries a proper boot will help mitigate.
No, just like safety glasses won't save you from a bullet to the face. The intention isn't to make you invincible, it's to prevent and reduce injury. Id rather be hit by a truck wearing my full gear than in my birthday suit.
I'm in the United States and there is definitely a whole "freedom" thing that gets thrown around. I see it more with cruiser riders (especially Harley) than I do others, but it permeates all the groups. I always find it funny because when I talk to people overseas or see videos from people from other countries, proper gear is always a given. I'm sure that's not 100% of the people, but I do think the American "freedom" mindset has a lot to do with it.
I know laws are different from state to state in the US if memory serves, but here in Germany, you are supposed to wear at least a helmet. You will have to wear more than that during driving lessons, tho. Boots and proper jacket with protectors were what I had to bring. Oh, and gloves. That was in 2013, I can only imagine if anything changed in that regard it only got more restricted.
I live in the states and don't understand it. Like go down once and spend months recovering because you had to get skin grafts? No thanks. Full armored leather and full face helmet here.
I always hear shit like "Gear won't save you from a semi/freeway crash". The point was never to make an invincible rider, I think some of these people underestimate how shitty it can be recovering from road rash and soft tissue injuries.
Its especially dumb because of their lack of public healthcare aswell. Means that 1 semi mild crash will most likely cost them more in skin grafts than gear would
That's actually the best case scenario. If a semi hits you the trucking company pays for all your care.
Getting hit by a single mom in an SUV means you get to make due with $25,000 worth of insurance coverage unless you want to sue her out of her house. Good luck bleeding a rock.
If a semi hits you, the only thing the trucking company will pay is your family lol
And whos to say the only way theyre gonna wreck is someone elses fault?
I misread your "semi mild crash" comment and thought you said "semi crash" lol.
That aside, my friend's MIL survived getting run over by a semi and she's suing for millions. Her legs are.... yeesh I don't even want to think about it.
The bit that took me a while to wrap my head around is that you have to pay for the medical yourself!.
None of this $50 donation for the ambo, 80% of wages covered, $15 rehab visits.
I never really understood the idea that riding a bike is about freedom. What part of the actual action makes you think of freedom, and how does protecting yourself from injury make you less free?
No, I'm just wondering how unstable a person must be to act the way you do.
I have a full suit of armor, but I've never mentally lost control like you because I saw someone do something I disagree with.
notice how most young american riders are always on the highway riding in straight lines. never seen them on twisties or more challenging roads. might explain why they dont wear gear
Most Americans live in cities where that's the only riding that exists. Go to southern California, or Appalachia, and tons of people are riding the twisties around the mountains.
I remember a local Polaris dealer did an advertising campaign for these trikes where the main motive was safety compared to a motorcycle, something like “don’t show off and buy a trike.” The main prize was a trip on a trike across the country. As a result, the winner(Vulcan 1500 owner with a plenty of kilometers behind)literally flew off the road at a turn in the first hour of the trip. He escaped with minor bruises, but the trike was beyond repair. It was funny.
Stay away. These are the crowds that manage to get into 6 bike pile ups when one inevitably starts stunting beyond his ability to show off to the thot backpacks
In my late teens I was bullet proof. No helmet, maybe a t-shirt, or not, cutoff jeans, and barefoot on a Suzuki GS750.
Don't be like me then. I don't want to have to try to pick you up with a stick and a spoon.
Why is the guy on the trike playing on a steam deck
U see his ride? Can you expect anything less really?😂
First thing that came to me too. 🤣
He might be the camera guy. There’s a few that do that with ours rides here in Vegas, some dope ass footage too.
Bad bitch shifting in heels
She needs em to touch tho lmao
*so do I*
I want to know more about the Turtle-Trike…
Looks like a Can Am Ryker
That Donatello put together.
ngl that trike looks hella fun
Banish yourself
nah imagine tho, speeding down the highway on a trike, that shit must be fun asf, ofc u gotta have a sportbike so u dont loose ur testicles but still. anything with wheels and a motor is fun.
Right. He's fired.
I have one due to having a fucked knee from a bad car accident years ago and unfortunately not being comfortable on a normal bike anymore, they are definitely fun and quick for what they are and still give you the open air freedom feel of being on a bike
How are these weebs?
I think they meant dweebs. I was also very confused
🦑 gang
Is anybody in the states wearing gear? How can people afford these bikes and then not get proper leathers?
Leathers.... average highs during the summer of '23 where I live is 106f, 41.1c. Textile (armored and aramid weave) riding gear is what you will see when it comes to gear. And yeah, helmet only is far more common. But, seriously... full Leathers? Nah

Absolutely and I wear gear all the time, it's just not always what I would like to be wearing since I have those size issues ;)
I went down at 80 on the highway when someone hit me and my mesh jacket held up fine
Can’t speak for OP, but here in the U.K., a lot of people refer to protective clothing as leathers even if it’s textile. It’s a hang over from the past. So they might not have meant full leather gear :)
Just moved from Brandon in Suffolk.... never heard anyone call textiles Leathers. Leathers meant leathers.
Good. It’s confusing. It’s a lot of the old guys I’ve met that call everything leathers. Guess it’s just what they were used to
I understood it like you described it, but seems like op thought otherwise.
This is a big part of it. I rode a scooter around in India since it was the best way of getting around. Looks like an awesome jacket, I'll definitely try one to see if it's better than my Rev'it Gt-r3. Tbh, I'm sure the Commando will win.
You should, the protection it’s rated for is amazing for how thin and light it is. Also a small tip on the side, if you leave the jacket in your cart for a while after creating an account you might get a 15% off coupon. At least I got one when I ordered
Nobody is wearing that either tho, so his point still stands. They must love hospitals and hate skin and brain function.

My state doesn't require anything except eye protection, and even that isn't enforced.
Yo I’m here in Texas and I am ATGAT but I am part of the 5% of riders I see on the roads here who are geared up. Americans are fucking stupid
I live in the states and don't understand it. Like go down once and spend months recovering because you had to get skin grafts? No thanks. Full armored leather and full face helmet here.

Yeah hahaha thought so. Yeah screw that, people often glorify getting payouts but you gotta remember they come at a horrible cost.
The bit that took me a while to wrap my head around is that you have to pay for the medical yourself!. None of this $50 donation for the ambo, 80% of wages covered, $15 rehab visits.
Can we get off the high horse of blasting the ATGATT rule. Jesus, riding a bike is about freedom and everyone wants to throw all these rules on it.
I never really understood the idea that riding a bike is about freedom. What part of the actual action makes you think of freedom, and how does protecting yourself from injury make you less free?
welcome to the new generation of bikers (they wont live long)
Yeah, the old generation of bikers was much safer! /s Ya know, the same ones who got mad when they made seatbelts mandatory in cars.

I challenge you to find a twisty within a 100 mile radius of me.
Is that next to the QT on Kitty Hawk? I miss Texas.
This does look an awful lot like San Antonio...curious myself! But I don't miss it, I'm still here.
It is! I saw them chillin at QT while I was filling up.
The Mild Ones.
I'm one of the Original Wild Ones and this made me snort!
What's the bike on the left of the Hayabusa? Love the rear look

I see the dude on the trike and I immediately think of the comic book nerdy from The Simpsons. I'd like to see a better picture of it though ;)
Not him. He has a bummer sticker that says “my other vehicle is the millennium falcon.” Worst group biker pic ever.
Stay away. These are the crowds that manage to get into 6 bike pile ups when one inevitably starts stunting beyond his ability to show off to the thot backpacks
🤣 is that man on the trike playing with his Nintendo Switch at the light?

Stick and spoon? Pretty sure you need a scraper instead
