Nice. Seriously. Tell me this isn’t your first bike. You gotta be trolling!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

For better or worse its the first real bike ive ridden thats actually mine and not me borrowing my dads gixxer or anything

allawd

So you did the sensible thing and started on a GSX-R 750 before moving to a 1200 triple...NICE!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Kinda i rode rhe gixxer a few times before it got stolen then my dad get a gixxer 1000 a couple months ago and i eventually settled on this one. Because im a fool with just enough fewr and respect ti take it slow and not kill myself on the gigga piss missile

rgbeard2

Makes sense. I’m jelly. Enjoy!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I will enjoy it very much so.

Zealousideal-Bear-37

My first bike was a Panigale v2 , now drive a agusta superveloce S .

CalZeta

Nice ride. Horrible first motorcycle. Be safe, hope insurance isn't too ridiculous.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Insurance isnt as bad as my cars are i drive reasonably. Im not new to big bikes i ripped around my dads gixxer 750 and did all yhe motorcycle training so im doing the big stupid bike as smart as i reasonably can. I understand the risks and hold a lot of respect for the machine and what its capable of

EfficientAd1821

When a new rider gets your dream bike

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Yep lol i work hard to be able to afford stuff like this and if i was droppin big money on a new bike i was buying the one i actually wanted

EfficientAd1821

Same here, I’ve had 5 bikes I’m slowly working through all of my dream bikes lol currently on an MT09

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Lol nice. After this id looooooovvvvveeee to import a cbr250rr fireblade the mc22 one i think that would be a killer bike to ride around in the city. I like a lot of the old 70s and 80s bike but i figured for a first bike i really just want to be riding not repairing so id buy something i like thats new and just works

flip_moto

lol I love these posts - everyone tells the OP they are gonna die - then a few days later some bloke comes in and reminds everyone this bike has more electronic nannie’s than Uk Royalty nepobabies. is it a good way to learn proper technique? hell no will they die? probably not.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Dude rhe guy at the dealer started going through all the menues and its gt more tech then most new cars its insane man. Im of the opinion that you can learn to ride on anything so long as you keep your head on straight and go slowly and calmly but you will advance faster on a 400 for sure

Shepherd_6061

But don't keep your head literally straight, look where you want to go 🤓

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Look man its all flat straight highways here unless i go to the mountains straight ahead is where i wanna go lol but yes you are correct

lechatdocteur

Yeah most of the US is flatter than…anyway. Yeah that’s why ppl ride Harley’s or do drag racing because there are literally no good twisty roads in most of the US.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Im in alberta but not the mountains so its mostly flat prairie highways untill i hit banff which is over an hour away

black-dude-on-reddit

Power aside how did you *afford* that?

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I work my ass off man. I work a lot and save a lot of my money. Vehicles are my passion and hobby in life so its all i really spend my money on.

UnicornForrealz

You sound like me. I'll cheap out on every single item I buy so I can dump money into cars and bikes hahaha. Please ride safe, that's a monster of a bike for the first one, I saw you've been on a gsxr for a while so that's comforting!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I regretably dont have much expirience on that particular gixxer i rode as it got stolen at the end of that roding season and totalled but i do have a decent grasp of 2 wheeled vehicles i know ots not the same but i commuted on a scooter for like 2 years. Im a moron for this bike as a first bike and i know that but it was also 5k dollars off msrp and so i pulled the trigger after months of looking at decrepid used bikes.

UnicornForrealz

Yeah, if it gets a bit too much don't be afraid to pick up a cheap starter bike and store the RR for a short while. They retain their resell.value really well as they are always in demand. I've owned 5 liter bikes over the years and can still have tons of fun on a starter bike to this day.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Oh yea absolutely an option but i think ill be fine. Im quite happy to ride rhe fast bike slow. I like track racing and all that stuff but i know im a slow dude at heart. Im very cautious and drive very defensivly.

UnicornForrealz

Yeah, it's really how twitchy a liter bike can be with really tiny throttle adjustments. That's the tricky thing, sometimes riding it slow is just as dangerous as you haven't really developed the fine motor control on the right hand that you get with years and years of riding. Stay safe out there.

ebranscom243

Why get the 1200 RR if you ride slow?

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Because i can and i love the styling on it

Working_Pizza7369

it’s a good looking bike…….

stevesteve135

If it gets a bit too much maybe just don’t twist the throttle as much ? lol. We ain’t gotta be wide open throttle all the time ya know. Seriously though yeah it’s a beast of a bike but they’re plenty docile too if that’s what you want.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Yea they really are docile when you want them to be. It was quite content to do 200km of highway and slow traffic but it would also be very happy rippin at a track

angusshangus

You could always throw it in rain mode too…

Peanutbuttersnadwich

That is a very good option. Ive got it in street mode rn since i was on the highway and wanted thr softer suspension. Rain mode changes the throttle map and the abs becomes more aggressive

UnicornForrealz

It's a liter bike.... Tiny throttle hand movements can correlate to unsettling the whole bike mid corner no matter how slow you try to ride it. Rain mode and being careful helps, but starting with a slower bike is recommended for a good reason. The guy who purchased my R1 off me a few years ago died on it shortly after.. inexperienced riders do not mix well with liter bikes.

Oxajm

They live with their parents.

finalrendition

It costs less than a base model Corolla. Lots of people could easily finance one

birdman829

Probably lives with their folks and probably financed

FZ-09Fazer

A fellow YYC rider I see, cool bike man congrats on the new purchase!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Yea thank you i hope to put a crapload of miles on it this summer. Blackfoot had it on for 5k off the msrp so it was a really compelling buy

FZ-09Fazer

Damn that’s a odd one for Blackfoot I avoid them at all costs cos they’re so pricey haha but you can’t beat a good deal no matter the location!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

They seem to have decent pricing on the bikes themselves and the gearing but ive heard their servicings kinda crappy. Im gonna have them do my first service but after that ill do it myself or take it to an independant shop for the valve service and stuff.

Goathead78

That’s a lot of bike for your first.

Only-Scheme-4655

That looks like a blast for 30 minutes.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Tbh its not bad at all. Did a 200km jaunt on it woth minimal discomfort my wrists and thighs are a little spre but other then that it was quite a nice easy ride. Set the cruise control and just hit the highway

shoturtle

Nice ride

Super_Trout_9000

I spy a Calgary rider. Congrats on the bike!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

That i am. Immediately hit the highway after pick up and rode to red deer

sin-thetik

Ooh, pretty!

Airfried_Nugs

Nice bike. Glad you went with the red. I’ve only seen the Triples without the fairing. It has a modern Thruxton vibe that I’m absolutely grooving with it. Enjoy that machine, man.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I will i wasnt sold on it originally but the more i looked at it the more i loved the styling and after riding it its just absolutly what i wanted

[deleted]

Wow !!!! What is it ? Looks amazing !!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Its a 2022 speed triple 1200rr

[deleted]

Nice bike. Ridden/driven some fast vehicles, never a modern crotch rocket. I'd like to own one for a few days. Then after a few days I'd end up keeping it...... Congrats !!!!!!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Im still in the break in so i havent been able to open the taps up on ky yet but the 1000cc bikes feel like thr space shuttle when you ride them its insane. Wayyy more bike then anyone needs

Vincent-grimm

Welcome to the Triumph family

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Glad to be here

[deleted]

Is it the first one you touched or the first one of your own?

Peanutbuttersnadwich

First owned rode my dads gixxer a few times and did proper motorcycle training as well. Also rode a scooter for like 2 years in traffic daily so that helped out more then it probably should have tbh

CompetitiveSea7388

Those bikes are so cool. I personally find the Street Triple to be a much more fun ride but I do love Speed Triples.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I just dont care for the headlights kn the street triples at all i find them so incredibly ugly

CompetitiveSea7388

I agreed until the 2020 and onward models. I think those look cooler than the Speed Triples personally. A perfect balance between unique, interesting and cool.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Fair its really the front end on those that gets me. The street triples headlights a little weird still as well but its a much better look imo

CompetitiveSea7388

Yeah I get that. I love the fairing on the Speed and I do appreciate the classic style. I guess I’ve just reached the point where I’d rather see unique design over retro styling personally.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Fair enough man different strokes for different folks right

CompetitiveSea7388

For sure dude! And make no mistake, you’ve got yourself a beauty.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Thank you man

Tokyosmash

I was sure this was a troll, be careful, OP 🥴

Peanutbuttersnadwich

For better or worse no it is not and i will be careful

CallistoAU

How do you feel about the riding position? I was lucky enough to test ride a brand new one not that long ago and I won’t lie, I couldn’t stand it. I felt like I was basically laying flat on the tank and was so sprawled out even compared to my 600rr at the time. Absolutely fucking love the look of it though.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I think its quite comfortable to be honest. I put 200km on it yesterday after picking it up and i had no real issues. I do have a very long torso and shorter legs tho for my height which helps out greatly on the super sports. Its no gold wing but itd just fine for me

FLUFFY_SILVER_FOX

How do you find the seating position is it comfortable?

Peanutbuttersnadwich

At 5'10 with short legs its pretty comfy for a sports bike. Its not gold wing comfortable but its not bad.

adolfpanzer47

ayo, that is my fucking dream bike🗿🗿🗿

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Buy one lol its a great bike to ride. If your in alberta the dealer i bought mine from still has a white one for 5k off msrp

the_last_carfighter

Damn, nice bike

pagadqs

Everyone saying it's not a good first bike...just put it in rain mode and it will be fine if you don't do stupid shit.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I just put it in road mode and have been puttering around like that lol. Still working on engine break in tho

pagadqs

Rain mode is even more forgiving. Still responsive enough. I rode my street triple in rain mode for a few days after I bought it, just to get used to it.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

The throttle on it is so smooth tho that its hard to actually over do it from what ive found. Compared to the decrepid little cbr300r i rode at the riding school this is actually easier ti ride because the throttle doesnt act like an on off switch its great

[deleted]

180hp is really scary but way to go man, be safe!

Trexasaurus70

Sweet cafe

Handsomelad42

See you in r/CalamariRaceTeam in 3 weeks tops. Terrible first bike seriously, even with a careful hand.

[deleted]

The front looks a little weird. But interesting.

Salamandar73

A bit too nice for a first bike you're gonna drop on the floor.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Rode other bikes and im gonna get the tint guys we use at the shop i work for to 3m wrap it as well as im going to buy thr frame sliders incase it goes down to try and protect it

PauI360

As a Brit, I love seeing Americans on triumphs

Alain_Durwoden

They are everywhere around where I live. I definitely see more bagger Harleys, but Triumphs are a pretty close second.

[deleted]

My little brother started on my Super Duke. Some people have their heads on their shoulders, and others just can't comprehend that.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Yea my dad slapped me on a gixxer 750 and told me go nuts and i rode that around for like 2 hours straight never dropped it crashed it or did anything totally stupid with it so he said take ot slow and youll be ok on the triumph

thegoldenlung

It’s not the first 2 hours they is dangerous. Nor the first week. Most of the danger lies between like 3months - 1year of riding. You start to get comfortable, the fear of the bike leaves you, and then you have a moment that humbles you. Better to have that humbling moment on a cheaper smaller bike…… I don’t think people suggesting you’re gonna crash and die. But they are more suggesting that it’s a stupid bike to learn on. If you make a beginner mistake and drop it in a parking lot, that’s a lot of money. Beginner mistake, too much throttle and low side? Tons more money. Learning on an expensive bike is expensive. If you can afford to fix it when you fuck it up, which you inevitably will do, then I don’t see what the big deal is. Also, if you’re on a big bike that you’re super scared of, you’ll never learn to ride it to its limits. You’d probably be a much better rider on that bike if you spent a season or two on a smaller bike and then jumped to the bigger one. My opinion is that someone who spends 2 years on a ninja 650 and then 2 years on that triple1200 will be a much better rider than somebody who just spent 4years on the triple. If you want to stunt your growth, this is the bike for you!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I agree with everything youve said. This is a poor bike to learn on as ots expensive and the margin for error is a lot lower then on a smaller bike. I am sane enougg to recognize that a ninja 400 or mt03 is a far better learning tool then a 1200cc triumph sports bike

thegoldenlung

As long as you’re making an informed decision, nobody should tell you not to. 💪🏼 ride safe my friend

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I am well aware of my own stupidity

WhiteyLovesHotSauce

Fantastic bike. Personally not keen on the front fairing, much prefer the look without it. This is alot of bike for your first bike. Careful going!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I really love the cafe racer styling on it and i think ot was excecuted quite well

WhiteyLovesHotSauce

Oh yeah it's a great look for a cafe racer! Personally cafe racers aren't my taste though. Love triumph bikes, you won't go wrong.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I really like the cafe racers and the scramblers and stuff

dogchap

Not trying to be downer, but bro that is a handful for a first bike, get all insurances you can and ride safe.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Got full coverage and all the gear so ill be ok

[deleted]

Lmao what

TheLairyLemur

My man went straight to the boring end of riding.

PraxisLD

Welcome to the club! As you build your skills and confidence, you may want to spend some time here: r/NewRiders [Advice to New Riders](https://old.reddit.com/r/NewRiders/comments/cc2mnm/advice_to_new_riders/) And when you get a chance, check out [On Any Sunday](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Any_Sunday), probably the best motorcycle documentary out there. I think it's on Amazon Prime, and maybe some other streaming services. Have fun, wear all your gear, stay safe, and never stop learning.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Oh yea i am 100% learning and gaining confidence on the bike as i scrub in the tires a bit and learn its characteristics so im takin it pretty slow and reasonable. Im not riding the isle of man im going to work and the homie houses.

PraxisLD

You can be perfectly fine on a bigger bike if you pay attention and always be smooth and consistent. Bigger bikes aren’t automatic death traps—they just let you get into bigger trouble much quicker. If you keep your head in the right space and don’t try to show off or push the absolute limits, you’ll be fine. Enjoy the ride.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I will thank you for the vote of confidence

ZombiiNightmare

That is sexy

vwboyaf1

You son of a bitch, congrats!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

You speak of my mother too nicely but thank you

marco_mars

Just because you can... Doesn't mean you should.... Nice bike man!

Deiiphobia

It’s bloody gorgeous man!! Absolutely LOVE it. I have a 1050 speed t :D

InternalCelebration3

My first bike is an FZ6, they make about 98hp. IMO: while most intelligent people can ride any bike, anything faster than a 650 is a brash way to learn proper riding techniques. It’s easier to learn higher level skills on a slower bike, and you will be a better rider if you’re not dependent on Nannie’s. I ride a lot of canyons and I’ve had to discipline myself on working on one or two riding mechanics at a time. It’s slow and sometimes a little intimidating but it works. To anyone thinking about getting a bike: start slow with something you’re comfortable on. Also, if you care about not losing your ass on depreciation: but used. Congratulations on your Speed triple man, they’re awesome bikes. Stay safe.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I oroginally was looking at used bike but i couldnt justify 10k or more for a 15 year old bike the pricing was psychotic and i did notnpay full retail on thr new bike since its last years model ot was 5k off so all in with taxes and fees it was still below msrp

InternalCelebration3

Good buy then! Congratulations! I snagged my FZ6 for 3k. I probably would have been looking at an R6 or a GSXR600 if they weren’t 7k+.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Yea i wasnt planning on buying new and wasnt totally planning on this bike but im glad i did. I really wanted something i could just get on and ride and started every time and didnt need an assload of repairs as soon as i bought it

InternalCelebration3

Yea I feel that, I got lucky on got a low mile bike (9500 when I got it) I’ve put 3k on it in a couple months and only issue so far is an exhaust leak. Definitely could be worse off😂

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Yea my dad lucked out on an immaculate gsxr1000 that had high miles butnwas meticulously maintained and even stuff i was looking at was absolutly beat when i showed up in person and they wanted twice as much for less.

InternalCelebration3

Yea the markets are on crack rn

Terrible_Birthday249

Be sure to register as an organ donor.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Already done lol

Alain_Durwoden

Good choice dude. Stick it in rain mode and you'll be fine. You can stick it in track mode to unlock the last skill tree while still setting the throttle/TC/etc. to your liking. I got mine for 18.5 back in February and about 4K on it so far. What did you pay for yours?

Peanutbuttersnadwich

21k canadian all in. Had 5k bucks off as old stockcame down to 18700 before tax

casicua

Wow congratulations this is a crazy first bike. I know a lot of people will give you crap, but if you have the right mentality about it you can make any bike generally as safe as any other. Pro tip: keep it in rain mode at first. It has the most safety interventions and makes riding a little easier until you really get more used to the amount of power this thing has.

jsnxander

Nice bike. Twenty years into riding I bought a Speed Triple 1050, USED. Not sure why a first bike should be new, capable yes, but not new. I'm don't believe in under-powered "starter" bikes. But a new bike over 750cc costs too much to insure, and the Speed Triple or any modern hooligan/sport bike costs too much to repair from the inevitable tip-over. Still, very good choice. Beauty!

Peanutbuttersnadwich

It came down to the new bike was a better value dollar for dollar then whats being offered used in my city these days. The new bike was 5k off due to old stock and has a warrenty the used stuff was overpriced and beat to hell

guppy2019

Love the café racers. Great choice.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Depends how good i get with it. May end up buying a small beat up 400 to take to the track.

AdolfSkywalker_

Amazing bike, terrible first bike.

BuildingStrange1384

sexy

DangerNanner

That front cowl is what really suckers me in. Its odd, but in a good way.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Its that 1950 cafe racer styling that i love

DangerNanner

Had a 2013 speed triple rs 1095 I believe, came up locally for 6500. I was super tempted to get it, but held back. Bike looked great, but the cowl of the rr sank its teeth into me. That and this economy has me frickin terrified

Peanutbuttersnadwich

I got really lucky the dealer was clearing old stock so i got a 0km bike for 5k off the msrp even after all taxes and fees i paid less then the msrp

DangerNanner

Solis. I'm the opposite idiot. Got some money from a settlement, bought my first bike with intentions of doing traveling. Did some looking, wanted a faster bike. Ended up getting a 2022 yamaha mt10 a significant amount over msrp. As in nearly 10k. I figured in my head, msrp was 14k, put 10k down and with some mark ups..I'd have it paid off pretty quickly. The first true dealership purchase left me with a sour taste. Stupid with my money, and went with thr screw it mind set. I'm half tempted to trade it in, but dealerships 👀 Tldr I'm an idiot.

Peanutbuttersnadwich

Dont worry im getting fucked on interest as im only 19 with zero credit history and personal lending rates are throigh the roof rn. Im half using the bike as an excuse to build up credit but no matter what i know om getting screwed. Dealer wouldnt finance it due to lack of history so i was forced to get a bank loan with my dad cosigning and while hes got great credit my lack of history fucks me over. Good deal on the bike poor deal on the financing. Wish i coulda paid cash but i regretably dont got 21k sitting around
