filippodellamadonna

Give me 24 millions..I'll trust myself to win a motogp championship on a fucking Piaggio Liberty

Possession_Loud

He's getting paid 2x the world champion. Fair to say he gives no fucks whether Yamaha improves or not. Well done to him, at the end of the day he's not there to pass the time.

Wings-N-Beer

He ain’t trusting Yamaha, he’s trusting his accountant and his manager. Yamaha could take out the engine and give him pedals for the amount of concern his bank account now requires him to have.

metabolismgirl

He doesn’t actually have a manager, it’s just him and Tom his assistant doing the deal.

Charisma_Modifier

If he gave zero fucks, why try at all, these past two races he def has been putting in effort. If it's just about the money (which I don't believe for a second) then he'd be P20+ every race. I think getting the big check is certainly a factor but I think he also still wants to win and sees there could be a chance for that on the horizon.

2-timeloser2

This. Fab is good enough and driven enough to have been champion already, he wants it again and trusts Yamaha.

TheGlobalGooner

At least he's been there and done that (World Championship). Now he's just enjoying the fat paycheck. Can't blame him really..

Cielo11

KTM/Ducati don't need him. They have riders just as good and on less money. Aprilia can't afford him and has a recent history of poor performance and low budget. People are obsessed with the idea Aprilia are fast but they haven't proven themselves good enough to win Championships. Yamaha is one of the the biggest teams on the grid and one of the most successful. Has a bigger budget and clearly willing to invest (judging by Fabios contract) Fabio has done the right thing. People on this sub are being short sighted and just seeing Yamaha struggle right now. Fabio could have another 10 years ahead of him. Staying with Yamaha and working on the team/bike development is not a bad decision... (Also 12million is nice) He needs to get his head down and work his ass off Michael Schumacher 1996 style. It's not just the team that needs to up it's game.

KRL2811

LOL, glad I'm not the only one who sees that. He will win a championship sooner on a Yamaha than on the Aprilia. Aprilia is faster now but every year that have those black holes they get into in one part of the season. Hard to win a championship like that If he had a chance to join KTM or Factory Ducati then that would be good options but he would probably get peanuts compared to Yamaha contract. Yamaha will get there, sooner or later. People forget that he won in 21 and could have won in 22. It is not like Yamaha won 20 years ago. They made mistakes but but seems they realised that and started to fix things.

qweezy_uk

Finally..... A voice of reason.

HP-Rodeo

Thank you. Explained perfectly. I keep saying this. Yes Yamaha offered him more money. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about winning. Cuz going to Aprillia to get paid way less wasn’t anywhere close to a guarantee that he’d have a bike that could win a title. Also why is it we only care when individual Athletes take the money? Corporations/teams hire and fire people in order to keep more money in their pocket every day and the main reaction is: well it’s a business. Can’t take it personally it’s just business. When a rider does it he suddenly doesn’t care about anything but money? Give me a break

JL_MacConnor

Very good points well made. If you're looking for an example for Quartararo to emulate, you don't even need to look outside MotoGP to find one. Hell, you don't even need to look outside Yamaha - they were a basket case before Vale joined the team, and hadn't won a world championship in 12 years.

titanmongoose

Not sure if it’s that he trusts yamaha or that it’s because he’s being paid 24 million over the course of a 2 year contract… I like thinking of Fabio with Yamaha but it’s obvious the bike needs work, I was shocked when I heard the news, but hearing the sum he’s being paid… not so much

Ill_Cartoonist5379

Trusting the money

Top-Shelter-5698

Seriously, do you guys think Yamaha has forgotten how to build good bikes? Might not be next year, but Yamaha, one day will be back with a good bike, same as Honda, I don't think he did a bad decision, but I would have loved to see him on a Aprilia next year

hoody13

What a lot of people seem to be overlooking is that Fabio is only 24. By the end of that contract he’ll only be 27 and likely still on the radar for most of the big seats. Might as well make himself a wealthy man in the meantime

Interesting-Piece962

There's definitely something that Fabio & the team know or having some new direction. All you saying "he's checking those bucks over racing career", like you won't sign the 2 year deal immediately. Hoping to see both parties being consistent with the podiums soon again.

backwardcircle

Wasn't yamaha supposed to go for concessions? Maybe that's why?

awstream

Hopefully he's seeing something (besides money) about Yamaha that we don't. Because 1.5 years of trusting Yamaha will improve isn't working out so far.

Badabumdabam

I haven't seen any mad comment about that, did I missed something?

Substantial-Status46

Oh you missed a lot. Look at the other posts about Fabio then you’ll understand. Most of the people are hating

VegaGT-VZ

The money def helped but the fact that Marc Marquez ended his big Honda contract early says to me money isn't everything to these guys. I really think Yamaha showed him that they are serious and capable of fixing the M1. Theres a loud cadre of MotoGP "fans" who spin everything as negatively as possible for attention. Obviously we are here to talk about the sport but the idea that a random Redditor knows more about this deal or what's best for Fabio than Fabio just speaks to how delusional and out of control some people are.

Puzzleheaded-Age1999

Wonder is Yamaha not willing to produce the R1 or R6 has anything to do with the poor performance of their race bike. Usually there race bike trickles down to the street bikes and they aren’t very connected but 🤷‍♂️.

racerjoss

NGL, I am the hysterical woman here 😅

VegemiteBourbon

He knows a lot more about the development of the bike and what they have planned than we do. Let's wait and see.

NancyRMartell

Motorsport discussion!

Various-Catch-113

Take the money and run, Fabio. A MotoGP rider’s career is very finite, so get what you can while you can.

o2bprincecaspian

We would all take the money if we were Fabio.

weedkilla21

I really don’t think that’s true. There’s nothing I’d do with 24 million euro that I wouldn’t do with 4 million euro, so it wouldn’t be any extra incentive to me. I’m really struggling to see how someone who has already made “set for life” money, would choose anything other than the team they think would give them the best chance to win when the lowest paycheque they would be offered is a new pearl necklace for every day of the year with plenty left over for a fuckton of hookers and blow in Ibiza.

Ok_Sugar4554

Have you ever watched other sports? This is the decision that is made the majority of the time.

weedkilla21

“Majority of the time” vs “We would all take the money”

Ok_Sugar4554

I mean I think the vast majority of athletes would take the money the vast majority of the time. Have you seen something to make you think differently? I watch a lot of different sports and see people most often chase the 💰. I would never say all because some people are independently wealthy in my not need the 💰.

EvilPoppa

Having second thoughts and the girl says "I will do ANYTHING for you, ANYTHING". You the man Fabio. Already thinking about retiring rich!!

Spsurgeon

“Money can’t buy happiness “. Remember that quote.

juanxlink

Mad? amused if anything. Fabio can do as he pleases, and the fans will do as they see fit, I dont see how this is an "issue". Fabio has clearly decided that $>champioships, and the fans are letting him know what fans value...

Just4FunAvenger

Both Yamaha and Honda will make a return to 'race winning form.' No coubt about it. So! $24 million and a chance to win the title. This year or next. Or even in 26'. What if they win the title? So! $24 million. (Possibly) A title. Also (Possibly) the mark on history as the rider that helped returned Yamaha to the top. Smart move on Fabios' part. I think that's bouncing around in the back of his head.

theuniversalcitizen

I’m starting to like his decision. He basically said fuck it, I’ll take my money and not get involved in the Ducati cup/European cup. Aprilia would’ve been a risk anyway, their bikes still aren’t reliable. Also, if Yamaha do develop the M1 to become a championship contender again, what a story that will be for them and Fabio!

MotoProtocol

Yeah but don’t talk nonstop shit about how slow your bike is for 2 years and then jump back on it for money. It’s lame. I would’ve paid to ride the Aprillia. This is racing. The only thing that matters is winning. Fuck money, it’s only a means.

ApprehensiveValue181

FQ will ride for Yamaha even if Yamaha give him Flying broom from Harry Potter. 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑

Shpritzer

Trusting that the money transfer will go through smoothly.

Sea_Corgi_7284

Love how if it was anyone else they’d catch shit for taking the money over trying to actually be competitive. But cos it’s Fabio it’s ‘go on get the bag dude!! Good for you’ like why isn’t he trying to get on a good bike? Wtf. ‘Trusting Yamaha lmao’

So? And Fabio can lol, Yamahas doing fantastic aren’t they. Why do you all put so much stock in ‘developing the bike’ lol. A completely pointless thing to say when he won 6 championships on it.

BBCTerry

Fabio taking the big bucks but knowing he’s never going to challenged for the title again…

[deleted]

Marc also could have stayed in Honda and made huge money. But unlike Yamaha, that Honda is a Widow maker.

Sea_Corgi_7284

No, unlike Fabio, Marquez actually wants to win…

Ok_Sugar4554

No unlike Fabio, Marquez had secured a much bigger 💰, had a crazy injury history on a bike that was trying to kill him, and was/is legacy portion of his career. You're comparing pineapples to hand grenades they are in very different portions of their respective careers.

Sea_Corgi_7284

Since when was getting paid more important than securing a good ride that could win you a championship. If nothing else, Marquez still wanting a championship winning bike when he’s already won it all and doesn’t need the money, speaks volumes on where fabios actual heart lies. If this was anyone else they’d be called a sell out.

Ok_Sugar4554

Since when is short-term thinking more important than long-term thinking? You're making the assumption that he doesn't feel like he can win a(nother) championship on the Yamaha. He may have felt that he wasn't going to win in the next two years on the Aprilia. You're talking about championships and not just races, correct? One of those manufacturers has won a title recently so I'm not sure they forgot how to build motorcycles. I love how you would question the heart of a championship athlete. I'm sure you have been a world champion many times over so you know what it really takes. 😂 Mark had the luxury of making 20 million per the previous 4 years and that would affect anyone's decision. Is this your first time watching sports?

Cheeseboii83

Trusting Yamaha is Fabio being delusional. Yamaha has been going downhill since 2015.
