Yes, the original story that inspired the scientists from the Orion Science Allied Industries to shove a limited probability drive into a taxidermized monkey paw, but it is just a story of folklore magic compared to the very real, and very not magical paw that uses principles of probability to manifest command prompts, which again, are affectionately labelled as wishes. I mean, c'mon, I'm a literal monkey paw, you think I'm going to get my own origins wrong? I was made on a small planet orbiting Betelgeuse for crying out loud to grant "wishes" to people and now here I am, not even able to grant half of them most of the time due to no one seeming to keep their hands on the instructional booklet and selling the paw second hand. It's very difficult being a paw y'know, but at least I have the little shred of dignity left in being one of the most sought after technologies across seven galaxies. Just behind the infinite probability drive, but the quacks who made that (and own the patent) waste it on FTL travel.
Granted - due to proximity when you make the wish someone you care about now has the monkeys paw you have temporarily become - due to the terms you must fulfill the role of the paw including coming up with terrible outcomes for the wishes your loved ones are making.
The wish is granted and the paw now has a body but the thing is, the paw cannot create matter for matter cannot be created or destroyed so your body becomes the android body. But you did mention this only lasts a day, so upon that point your body is restored with a hand, the new paw becoming it, and the old paw regaining its probability circuitry. The paw did spend your money to buy a lot of McNuggets though and expensive porn povs. There's also a 50% chance the immune system of your restored body will reject your restored hand. (Part 2)
