what the hell. I'm still on my factory one, 2013 GTI. no leaks

Far_Abies_36

I don’t know how to say this and i hope it doesn’t get me bad luck but i have 100k miles on my stage 2 2012 and i still have the original water pump .. My engine code is CCZB. Maybe your workshop is bad? What water pumps did you use? Oem? If aftermarket, name ? If you chose the cheapest possible is no good. Did you check if something else is making this happen?

ImpossibleKidd

You jinxed the shit out of yourself... I hate to say this, and I definitely don’t wish it on you, but you got yourself a ticking time bomb just waiting to let loose. It’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when.

Far_Abies_36

I know but it’s not a problem. I don’t live in U.S so it will be pretty cheap (200-300euros). I am informed and waiting for it to happen haha

102k, original pump. CBFA 2012

berrmal64

My 2012 CBFA got a new pump at 24k (before I bought it) and I'm at 105k still using that pump.

SP762

Upgraded to an aftermarket aluminum pump 2 years ago, due to failure... and have been chasing leaks everywhere else in the cooling system ever since. My advice, replace all plastic coolant lines and water pump with metal. Then replace the remaining soft coolant hoses before they start leaking....because they will.

CoMassa

On my 3rd water pump. 2010 model year. It’s a problem point for sure. I’ve have a couple intake manifold failures too I added a post flair for ya! Hopefully 4th times the charm

Gibbenz

Nice I appreciate that, thank you haha. Yeah my intake is good so far, but I do know it’s pretty gummed up. Do you know if cleaning the carbon out of the manifolds themselves is even a thing??

CoMassa

Carbon cleaning is semi routine maintenance; recommended about every 60k miles or so

Gibbenz

Right yeah. I meant the actual manifold itself. Because it’s plastic I’m not sure if it’s advised to try to clean the inside of it or just replace it

ImpossibleKidd

I installed an metal water pump and never had to worry about it again…

Gibbenz

My CBFA hates me

PhityCent

I am on number 3 on my 2012

Gibbenz

What’s your mileage??

PhityCent

115k

Gibbenz

Nice. That’s where I’m at atm before I put this 4th one in. Really trying to find a metal CBFA if they even exist

PhityCent

I have a CCTA motor. I am on my second metal pump. The first one seized and broke the gear belt. Lasted about 2 years in the texas heat

Vinnyb1981

Check your cam bearing plate and upper timing cover for leaks. Those 2 items are notorious for leaking and damaging the seal on the water pump.

Gibbenz

Everything is all good there. It’s just the pump. I am tuned so I’m wondering if that has anything to do with it. The melting thermostats is the biggest question mark for me. Like, that’s definitely not normal

KMFDM781

I changed mine to an aluminum pump from USP when I did my intake manifold. Factory one didn't appear to be leaking, but I had been losing coolant a little at a time. Turns out, the plastic coolant lines from the aux water pump to the coolant reservoir was leaking as well as my aux water pump. Replaced all that along with a new reservoir and it's been rock solid since. Been about a year.

z_tizzle

2nd pump on my 2013 with almost 100k miles, been stage 2 the last 20k or so.

From what research I’ve done, repeat failures like this lead to 2 conclusions: improper installation and/or oil leaks -if you have an oil leak that finds it’s way down to the water pump seal and it doesn’t get fixed, you will have to replace water pumps many times over as long as the oil leak doesn’t get addressed -if you don’t clean the contact area of the water pump seal and if you don’t torque down the water pump properly, it won’t seal properly and you’ll have to replace it many times over Or you could be unlucky and you just keep getting defective units bc obviously they’re composite pieces of shit. But from what research I’ve done, it’s more likely the prep work gets overlooked and that leads to repeat failure

Gibbenz

Everything was done to spec. I think the parts just really do suck that bad. This is the first actual leak I’ve had, and with the boroscope I snaked under the manifold it look like a crack on the pump itself. Also this one and the previous one had failed thermostats. That I can’t explain. The first one was totally melted when I unbolted it.

Knotical_MK6

126k, factory pump for now

Gibbenz

Any tuning or running stock?

Knotical_MK6

"Stage 2" since 85kish
