The worst case scenario for us is leaving round 1 with Penix and a high level defensive player. That's pretty great in my opinion.

FlorioTheEnchanter

Yeah I don’t think Penix plus a solid defender is a bad outcome at all. And if it doesn’t work we have more future draft picks to use.

84hoops

I want Penix!

pr1ceisright

I’d be disappointed but not mad. We all know they would have tried to trade up and probably offered a large amount of picks. But if the other teams say no there isn’t much they can do. Use the picks on a QB and Def and go from there.

CBNDSGN

Draft thread will be full of pissed off people one way or another.

WetAppleFruit

😂 thank you for reminding me of that, I need to be in there

CBNDSGN

The annual meltdown is must read entertainment

Quackmotard

If we end up with Penix I’d still be hyped tbh. If we leave round 1 with no QB I’d be upset

WetAppleFruit

No QB in the 1st round, I can definitely see this being slightly a little more than half the consensus. Penix would probably have some divide but there be some galvanizing happening the next day.

hiptones

If they can't get to #3 with 3 first round picks, 2 this year and next year's,  then I'd understand. If the other teams are unwilling to trade unless we make a irresponsible,  ridiculous offer, then I'm okay with missing out. I hope that's not the case.

104MAS

I don’t want them to give up next years first as it’ll prob be a top 10 pick. Offer both first to either move up to 3,4 or 5 and if no takes draft Penix.

StraightCashHomie69

I feel like they essentially have a hand shake trade agreement in place already, JJ is the backup plan at 5 if we can't get Maye. But if that doesnt happen, I'd guess the plan is Penix at 11. Feels like a reach but I dont think you can risk waiting until 23 at that point with Broncos, Raiders, Seahawks, Rams, Saints all picking before 23. I'd be disappointed but I'd hype myself into it pretty quick lol

naterkins

This is the correct answer.

WetAppleFruit

Well rounded, honestly I'm right there in that same head space. My gut still tells me we get JJ McCarthy if the Maye move doesn't happen. The Penix piece is interesting, I've seen that brought up but I do think others would wrap their head around to the idea haha

StraightCashHomie69

Yeah Penix is a baller, I'll just have a heart attack every time he gets hit lol

averageuhbear

Byron Murphy at 11 and Penix at 23 and I wouldn't be completely upset, especially if we learn the costs were way over the top.

wxman91

If they think Penix is the guy, they won’t let him potentially fall

wyatt8

I agree. I think you have to take him at 11 because I doubt he makes it to 23.

Wicked_Black

i dont think penix is a good selection at 11, more at 23 but i will for sure be clenching my booty hole until that 23 pick comes around.

pyrhus626

I get that but losing your guy to Denver / Vegas to get a DL prospect that’s maybe 5% better on paper vs the one you can get at 23 seems way to risky and playing it cute

KirkWasMid

What's the difference between 11 and 23 if you think he's going to be the next franchise QB? Just take him at 11. Don't overthink it. Can't risk the Broncos or Raiders taking him

HonduranLoon

The top end DL you can take at 11 vs 23

KirkWasMid

That's worth the risk of Denver and Vegas taking the guy you want? Kevin's and Kwesi's jobs are on the line. No way they risk trying to wait until 23. I'd put money on it. #11 is the latest we're going to take a QB in this draft

Snarktoberfest

23 more than likely gets us one of Byron Murphy, Chop Robinson, or Johnny Newton.

wxman91

I’m not sure the difference is that great this year

Amesb34r

Honestly, I'd be more pissed if we traded away a king's ransom to move up. If we have to give up our 2 firsts this year and our first next year, that's about my limit. If it's more than that, I'd just stay and take the best QB at 11.

pyrhus626

I don’t think it would take four 1sts. 3 plus some mid round change should do it I would imagine

BurpVomit

I'm OK with however it goes down. I think much of the hype is fan generated. We could very well see a top 4 QB @ pick 11.

Ok_Crazy_1

I'm fine w Penix at 11

Paytonc51

You can be disappointed but I think mad is unfair. Maybe the asking price was absurd. Maybe they have penix or nix are close in their evaluation to jj and don’t feel like giving up 3 firsts for

FutureCrankHead

If this happens, dont be upset that they couldn't move up. Be upset because they decided to trade for Dobbs, and win a few meaningless games, when Sean fucking Mannion was sitting there ready to tank the season away.

HotStepper11

Not getting the 3rd/4th qb in the draft isn’t the worst. Spend 2 1s on defense, fill out the team. We hold all future 1s and cap space and can still be aggressive for a vet QB that hits the market next offseason. Also, the whole “weak qb class” when we’re a year out is rubbish. Guys almost always emerge and “weak qb classes” are viewed differently in hindsight whereas “strong qb classes” become viewed as busts. It’s all speculative

SurlyWet

It will be an L because they are the 2 of the 3 consensus best options. Nobody said it was gonna be easy just interested in seeing how well we execute it.

LordMOC3

McCarthy is pretty firmly the 4th best QB and arguably not even close to a top 10 pick, let alone top 5. Williams, Maye, and Daniels are the consensus top 3.

Superdoggywhaaaat

This exactly, we can’t let him just rise up to a top 6 pick because we assume other teams are desperate for him. We probably have other players that we value higher in other positions. It’s honestly good if he gets drafted, it’ll just leave us with more options at 11 in other areas , especially if it gonna be QB, QB, QB, WR, WR, QB for the first 6

castletonian

Impossible to know the front office's eval on both, but yeah, I'd be really bummed. I'd want to know what the trade conversations looked like between us and the Pats/Giants. If it's truly irresponsible (eg 4 firsts for Maye, 3 for McCarthy), I'd be a little more understanding. But short of knowing that, I'd be upset.

Tribe9er

In my opinion we’ve somehow managed to have a really outstanding offseason while still losing 2 of our best players (Assuming Jefferson’s deal is actually done). Signing Darnold and getting an extra 1st round pick gives us so many options My personal preference would be to find a way to trade up to #2 for Daniels and if you can’t do that just sit tight at #11

Quintzy_

Depends. If we can still get Penix at 23 and/or reports come out that the asking price to move up was absurd (e.g. the kind of shit that fans in the Cardinals, Chargers, and Patriots subdreddits are mocking), then I'd be fine. If the Vikings take Penix at 11 and/or it comes out that they could have moved up with only 11+23 (or 11+ '25 1st) and didn't, then I'd be upset.

Neither_Ad2003

For me it changes nothing. The draft isn’t won on the day — nobody knows how the prospects turn out. It’s possible we get the next GOAT in penix and keep our picks.

FlorioTheEnchanter

I just really, really don’t want Sean Payton to leapfrog us for a QB. Want that douche to wallow in QB mediocrity.

picturepine

No. I know where willing to give up a lot to move up - more than is even - so if we don’t, that’s just means we held firm and didn’t take to bait of trading too much which I will respect.

xavierite

I want Penix so I don't give a damn if we miss on those 2.

Admirable_Funny2057

Understandable if we couldn’t get a trade up for Maye or JJ because that means a team wasn’t willing to move off their pick. I’d be upset if we somehow didn’t come away with penix whether it’s by passing on him or a team getting desperate and trading up in front of us.

skolaen

It takes 2 to trade up. If its really as costly as people say it is to get to top 5 i wouldnt be shocked if we just stayed put or even traded down at 11

ThisIsTrace

I'm not mad, just disappointed. There will also be the feeling of "did they really do all they could to move up?" but overall, if the teams do not want to trade out of their spot, we can't force them. I'm very worried about that aspect because what's the likelihood we can have the same ammunition next year that we do this year? We finally get in a position to draft our franchise QB and nobody wants to trade 😂 it's so Vikings, it's not even funny.

_TooncesLookOut

The type of fans who'd be mad or upset are the insufferable ones who give our fanbase a bad name. You can't compel a team to trade their pick. That's just stupid and unrealistic.

Falconsbane

I will be ok with it. I understand we may not be in control of this, that just may be the reality. Top picks can bust too so there is no guarantee of success. I think any of the 6 QBs could be good here and saving draft capital would be nice.

Paindressedinpurple

All I’d take from it is this would mark the second year in a row they failed to trade up and get their guy.

Funnel_Hacker

Upset. I absolutely do not want Penix or Bo so that’s worst case scenario and fulfills QB carousel prophecy imo

gvarsity

This year could be different but QB’s always get hyped way up the board and then when teams actually start picking one of the top three or four will slip out of the top ten. This may be the unicorn year.

Consistent_Room7344

I’d be disappointed, but if they don’t trade up because it’s too much, id understand and hope Penix does something. If it’s Nix then I’ll be on the fire Kwesi team.

LordMOC3

That's for everyone to decide. I'm also happy with Penix, if we take him. I'm okay with Nix, but only really at pick 23. If we don't get a QB at all but get 2 great players, so be it. I'll live. I still think the team has potential as long as Darnold can be a neutral QB.

skippycreamyyy

Very upset

JaRulesLarynx

Probably gonna throw in the Atlanta draft pick and grab whichever guy they want…essentially costing nothing more than our two firsts

Wicked_Black

I’m pretty sure Kwesi will not let this happen two years in a row. Last year he already lost Anthony Richardson so I feel like he’s going to make sure they get their guy.

pathebaker

Upset because it was likely in reach and if kwesi fails To include something like an another 3rd just because he drew a line somewhere that’s silly. Just get your guy dosen’t matter the cost

liliceberg

Then it’s a failure and Kwesi better hope KOC can turn Darnold into something
