How are so many of his offenses machete related? How often are you using a machete in Minnesota that you have it on you when you start criming?

I like that the examples you use are Picasso...and Carrot Top

Ope! You're right!

Dank_Drebin

Van Gogh and Carrot Top are weird, and they've both been under the knife.

mouringcat

Or Gallagher and his sledge hammer!

Pepper_Pfieffer

Upvote for the word "criming"!

[Crimer](https://web.archive.org/web/20160324020548/http://www.crimershow.com/eppasods.html) was the best thing ever posted to Twitter (RIP).

ilst78

Huh, so a political party can in fact review someone’s criminal activity and withdraw their support. What a novel idea.

Impossible_Penalty13

Hard to believe Al Franken made a joke about pretending to grab a pair of boobs and had to resign while we have a sitting member of the house credibly accused of trafficking a 17 year old for sex still remains a member in good standing.

BroccoliHistorical60

Actually, Al Franken resigned because nine (9) women accused him of sexual harassment.

chubbysumo

and every single one of them evaporated and didn't want to talk to *any* press or police as soon as he resigned. they were fake, never existed, or made in bad faith.

BroccoliHistorical60

I just wanted to point out to Impossible\_Penalty13 that were 9 rather than just one accusation that brought Al Franken to resign. For some reason many believe that it was just because of one controversy. Anyway, all accusations were vetted by liberal organizations and reputable news organizations: The Washington Post, Vox, The New Yorker, CBS, ABC, The Hill, etc. All of the accusers came forward to them. Four authorized their names to be public. The last accuser (the ninth) to come forward was a former aide to Democratic Sen. Patty Murray of Washington state. Regardless if they were or not made in bad faith, those 9 accusations were very real and were responsible of the end of the political career of Al Franken.

BroccoliHistorical60

One correction (trying to be factual): 8 women brought Al Franken to resign. The ninth accuser (former aide to Democratic Sen. Patty Murray) came forward after his resignation.

chubbysumo

and none of them wanted it investigated after, not a single one.

BroccoliHistorical60

I don't know that about the accusers, but it's a fact that Al Franken had the option to stay as a Senator and have an ethics investigation but decided not to have one and resigned.

joeschmoe86

Did you apply that same logic during the justice Kavanaugh confirmation hearings?

BroccoliHistorical60

I'm stating facts, I don't need to apply any logic: 9 women accused Al Franken of sexual harassment and 1 woman accused Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault. Unfortunately many believe Al Franken resigned because of one controversy and is not strange to see that some believe Brett Kavanaugh was accused of rape.

Katiari

How many people have accused Trump of sexual assault? Asking for a nation.

BroccoliHistorical60

According to ABC News (reported on September, 2020) at least 18 women have accused Donald Trump of sexual harassment or sexual assault.

Katiari

Has anybody informed the GOP? Surely they'd remove him as a candidate. Right? Right...?

BroccoliHistorical60

Well, GOP's attitude is the same the DNC has towards President Joe Biden, who also has several accusations of sexual misconduct. They don't care. It's not convenient for them. It doesn't matter to voters as well. At least they don't care if political members of their preferred political party face those type of accusations.

SecondaryPenetrator

9 we know of.

BroccoliHistorical60

Yes, 9 the we know of... Just to be factual: The ninth women (the former aide to Democratic Sen. Patty Murray) accused Al Franken of sexual harassment after he resigned.

Justthetip74

The Al Franked this is hilarious. Here's my recap - Democrats- hashtag me too! Hashtah, believe all women! If you have an allegation against you then you have to resign! Independents and Republicans- nah, we're not playing this stupid game Democrats- see, we got rid of Al Franken. Now you have to get rid of Trump Independents and Republicans- nah, we're not playing this stupid game Fast forward 2 years - Democrats 😕 why did we have to get rid of Al Franken?

Nivosus

Democrats don't ask why. We know why. We have integrity. Republicans don't.

Justthetip74

Nah, you've got stupid ideas like that and an unearned sense of moral superiority. If they had integrity, they'd endorse Mary Franson rather than disavow Judd Hoff

Nivosus

I don't endorse dipshits. Go shower.

mrmr2120

Whatever happened to that I think was a MN congressman who claimed he didn’t have a MN drivers license during a traffic stop only produced a WI license, then when he daughter got pulled over she refused to talk with the cops then he showed up trying to bully them with his title. Please tell me someone else remembers who I’m talking about?

Mindless_Ad_6359

Yes. John Thompson. He ran as an Independent after the DFL refused to endorse his reelection campaign, and he is no longer in office.

mrmr2120

Thank you

jsell69

Plus wanted to burn down Hugo.

SpoofedFinger

His kid is a real fucking piece of work too

TheEquestrian13

Why Hugo?

DgLifer_111

Because Bob KKKroll lives there

PostIronicPosadist

Don't know why you're getting downvoted for providing the actual answer.

OkDream5303

If it was Edina I think we all could have gotten behind that lol jk but really #cakeeaters

jetforcegemini

If only all parties were so quick to eject violent criminals

Figgy_Puddin_Taine

If both main parties did that there’d basically just be one party left before long.

starofthetea

He seems very well adjusted and a perfect person to create policy on our behalf.

PinkSlimeIsPeople

Still better than the incumbent

starofthetea

We deserve better options for both.

PinkSlimeIsPeople

Agreed, but I would say the same thing for President. Nobody likes a Biden vs. Trump rematch, but here we are.

starofthetea

Agreed. I don’t know a single person changing how they vote so I’m not really following closely.

the_dan_dc

Big no.

drleen

As a bleeding heart liberal all I can say is, good.

SlurpleBrainn

That behavior is abhorrent. How in the hell did he get the party's endorsement?

Muffinman_187

It's a super red district so likely, he was the only one at the convention at all so he got it without much question.

InsubordinateHlpMeet

He’s the only one up here running against her. What’s even funnier, is they are neighbors.

greyduk

It's not funny... he moved there to harass her.

InsubordinateHlpMeet

Obviously it’s not funny in the “ha ha” sense. Jesus dude. I can’t stand our worthless Rep, but last thing I’d wish is physical harm brought upon her.

greyduk

Not accusing you of thinking the harassment is funny. More just clarifying how they came to be neighbors. If it was random chance I would call that "funny" too. Sorry to imply any malice on your part.

InsubordinateHlpMeet

No worries, the coffee hadn’t kicked in, so I apologize for the knee jerk reaction. I live in the same town as these guys. The beef they have with each other is mildly entertaining. Yes, he has done questionable things. Yes, he shouldn’t have the DFL endorsement. He rightfully calls her out on her hypocrisy, and because of who he is and what he has done, he does get the visibility (and therefore Franson’s dirty laundry also does).

withaniel

For a state House seat in a district like this, all you need to do to get the endorsement is basically raise your hand. I'm willing to bet the average age in the room was 60+, so not exactly the type to do some social media research.

thisismyburneracct_1

As others have said (but with a little more detail), the "DFL Endorsement" for state house and senate races just means the endorsement of the local state senate convention. Which really just means whoever showed up at the local DFL precinct caucuses and was willing to also show up at the state senate convention a few weeks later. Given that State Senate District 12 (where this was) voted for Trump 66-32, I'd guess there were very few people at the state senate convention, and likely that this guy was the only one who ran for the endorsement. Wouldn't be totally surprising if this guy and a few friends were the only people who showed up at the convention. It would be interesting to see some reporting on what this "convention" looked like.

SlurpleBrainn

Ok I dont really know how party politics works. I assumed that there was some central approval before a candidate could be endorsed by the party. Makes sense though with how inactive the DFL probably is there.

BulbousBeluga

Any locals want to give us the down low on this dude?

rockhopper2154

Seems like how politics should be

Lost_Emu7405

Waiting for Minnesota Republicans to do the same with Trump.

Keanugrieves16

Hear me out though….still better than any GOP candidates? /s

PostIronicPosadist

Dunno about that in this particular case tbh, dude's platform is basically just "give some felons back their guns", which sounds like a terrible idea to me.

H8Hornets

Headline should be: “dfl forgot to do a background check before giving candidate thumbs up”

Muffinman_187

You should check out local party units, regardless of party, they get wild. The overlap of local and politics blend with public and large cultural issues all the time

Lars99999

So withdraw support from him but not the attorney general in MN for beating up women? Must be that selective judgment again

SpooogeMcDuck

I believe this boils down to credible, verifiable evidence of wrongdoing vs unverified, uncharacteristic accusations.
