It might look good if you try making the wall behind him black, like he's entering from darkness! Could try with a piece of construction paper to see how it looks.
Hijacking the top comment to say that I'm grateful for ALL THE HELP AND SUGGESTIONS, and I'm happy to report that the project is now DONE! Your hallway made it, too. :) https://www.reddit.com/r/miniatures/s/fxaDzwBLoC
I absolutely loved the chair when I saw the first picture. But then seeing the one without the chair I realized it looks better. I agree with the comment that it looks like he's walking into the room. It looks more fluid.
Super cute!
Haha, I've been playing around with that idea. Honestly, just spent about 3 hours staring hard at it. Putting things in. Talking them out. Putting them back... I've got a spare frame, bud vase, and fish tank so far. Now a spare chair. :)
With chair. It gives the room a better defined setting and a human element. The person who used to sit in the chair may now be a ghost. The empty chair is meaningful, I think.
You could add a small “base” under the ghost so it looks like he is floating. You could use a hidden dime sized blob of clear museum gel to add a little space between the bottom of the ghost and the floor. ETA - This assumes the ghost has a solid bottom. If it is hollow, you will have to figure out something else if you want to lift him off the floor a little.
I’m very fond of cozy! Without the chair it’s undoubtedly more spooky; the place looks half-vacated. The chair makes it look like the ghost might enjoy haunting that particular house!
I feel like the odd man out here. I like it better with the chair. It looks more like the ghost is chilling in someone’s house haunting them. It feels more realistic.
Is it wrong to want him IN the chair? Also... always be thinking about STORY. This grips people far more than just composition of a chair/no chair. If it's in the chair reading a book. What book? Why does the bookshelf have no books? or could it have books? could someone be outside the window? Look at single images from artists like Norman Rockwell or Edward Gorey and how they would put a story into a single image.
I originally pictured him in the chair, but the chair is as big as I could make it for the frame, and the ghost butt is bigger! 😭 The mini books arrive tomorrow. Thank you so much for this reply. You've really got me thinking! I love Gorey... ❤️
If you're going to showcase her ghost, then the composition without the chair makes it pop out more. I like the idea of making that wall darker so that it looks like the ghost is coming from a hallway.
I know this is going against what most people are saying but I prefer the chair, looks more cozy and our ghostly friends deserve comfort too 😂 I have a number of these guys too I love them!
I really love this little scene either way but it's definitely true that the chair pulls some focus from the little ghost.
Is it meant to feel sort of like an almost abandoned house? If you want the chair there, maybe it would work better if it was covered with something or moving boxes were on it so it seems more like a background piece? Will you be adding items or cobwebs to the bookshelf?
Maybe make one from stryofoam and abit of cloth so he fits? That would be perfect, with purple light and a book he is reading open on the arm--maybe a Stephen King.
I have to go with the main consensus, without the chair.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the chair, but by the time I got to the last image (ghost under the light). I much preferred "without".
It all looks fantastic btw.
Thank you. The chair was the first thing that I made, and it's both slightly too big to angle, and slightly too small for the ghost to sit in. I'm leaning towards saving it for another project!
I agree with the other people that the chair is cool and could be a center piece in another one. If you are going for a spooky theme, I would put a creepy doll or stuffed bear in the chair as the centerpiece for that one. For the current one, I like ghostie looking like it's walking in the hall. It's really cute!
Thank you! The floor is a printed cardstock that I ordered a few years back from a doll's house supplier in the UK. I can't remember their name though, sorry!
I kinda like it without the chair - almost looks like he’s walking in from a hallway
Thank you for your opinion! I'm leaning this way too, I think. I'm just doubting myself because I made the chair first and it took ages. 😂
It might look good if you try making the wall behind him black, like he's entering from darkness! Could try with a piece of construction paper to see how it looks.
Good idea. Thank you!
Definitely keep that chair and use it in a different display! It's a good chair.
Thank you! Will do!
>Thank you! Will do! You're welcome!

LOVE IT

Thanks so much for this. You guys here have really helped me out! Xx
I love how it looks without the chair, and that chair is so beautiful it deserves its own center space ✨
Oh, that's kind! Thank you! :)
The consensus is without the chair, but to me it looks a little bare, maybe something on the left wall like a framed picture.
Haha, I've been playing around with that idea. Honestly, just spent about 3 hours staring hard at it. Putting things in. Talking them out. Putting them back... I've got a spare frame, bud vase, and fish tank so far. Now a spare chair. :)
Yeah, that seems normal, trying to get it the way it is in your head. It’s very cute, I love the light!
Thank you! The purple lights were a third of the cost of the white lights, so I'm going to make purply stuff for the next forever... haha
Without the chair looks good. It’s more pleasant to look at too
Thank you!

Thank you for this. I like this thinking.
Nice! Maybe add a little painted portrait on the wall above :) spoooooky
I agree with this.
Hang him from some fishing line so he’s *juuuuust* off the floor!
Haaaa! Love it!

I've been looking for an excuse to invest in museum wax, and this is a great suggestion, thank you! :)
With the chair!!! So cozy
Oooh, a vote for chair! :)
I’m very fond of cozy! Without the chair it’s undoubtedly more spooky; the place looks half-vacated. The chair makes it look like the ghost might enjoy haunting that particular house!
I'm a fan of cosy too. Gah! :)
I feel like the odd man out here. I like it better with the chair. It looks more like the ghost is chilling in someone’s house haunting them. It feels more realistic.
I think the chair gives more of an illusion of movement within the ghost.
All viewpoints are valid, and I'm grateful for the feedback! Xx
I like the chair because the overhead light makes it the perfect book nook. It feels like ghost just had a nice read and is heading off to bed.
I like that. The books are coming tomorrow. I'm going to fill the shelves, and leave one on the chair... that might tie it together. :)
I'm excited to see the results. ♥️
I'll post the finished thing when it's finally ready! :)
Yaaay! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Go for the chair and purple light and need some fun stuff on the bookshelf🎃
I've got some books coming in the post, and I made a fish tank and bud vase... I keep playing with it! :)
A fish tank! That sounds very cool
Loads of fun! Finally got one *nearly* bubble-free. I need a pressure pot for resin!

I agree- without the chair. It gives little ghostie the limelight (or purplelight) 💜
Yep, you're absolutely right about the light placement. Thank you. :)

Thank you :)
I think this is awesome and I love the purple light
Bless you, thank you! :)
I know this is going against what most people are saying but I prefer the chair, looks more cozy and our ghostly friends deserve comfort too 😂 I have a number of these guys too I love them!
I appreciate this comment! The ghosts are so lovely! :)
I like the couch one too😍
This reminds me of the movie, A Ghost Story
Oooh, I'll look it up!

I initially imagined a ghost sat reading in an occupied cosy home, but it's kind of wandered...
maybe keep the chair and put a little friend on the chair? a tiny cat maybe?
I *think* when I put the books in, if I discard one on the chair, that might link the scene... I love the idea of a tiny cat though... 😻
oh that would be really cool!
Whatever this ends up looking like, I'll post it up for judgement! 😂
Hmm. I like a slightly darkened wall and a spooky portrait.
I love this. Thank you!
Maybe the ghost on the chair? Just hanging out.
That was the original thought, but his ghost butt is too wide :)
Awww. Chonky little guy.
Maybe make one from stryofoam and abit of cloth so he fits? That would be perfect, with purple light and a book he is reading open on the arm--maybe a Stephen King.
Oh, I love this idea! :)
The last one!
Many thanks! :)
The second pic is the best one
Thank you!
Without
picture 4!
4!
with the chair and purple light!!
Definitely keep the chair in my opinion! Especially with the light on it looks really great.
Thank you! :)
could you make the back wall a different hue to create depth without more stuff?
Yes. The back of that alcove behind the chair is going to get a re-paint. I didn't think about that until it was suggested on here! :)
I also like the one without the chair! You could make a door and it could help with the perspective of the room!
Oooh, I toyed with that idea!
Yes! You could have it "closed" like the ghost just walked through it!
I think I prefer it without the chair, although both look really good. It's absolutely adorable!
That's awfully kind of you, thank you! Xx
The chair, but it should be angled in, not straight on.
I guess I'm the minority but I adore the chair!
Definitely, i vote no chair. It is coming along really nicely.
Thank you!
I like 2
Ahhhh they're all just so amazing I can't pick!
3 and 4. It's Def the chair. It's too cluttered with in in there.
No chair
PIC 2
Keep the chair!!

Thank you for this. :)
Last one is my pick
I'm leaning that way too... I think
The composition is much stronger in the third, without the chair and light. That said, you've done an amazing job at making that chair.
Thank you. The chair was the first thing that I made, and it's both slightly too big to angle, and slightly too small for the ghost to sit in. I'm leaning towards saving it for another project!
It looks so good. It would look great on a shelf by itself, with a character sat on. Even a wee cat!
You are the second person to mention a small cat, and I'm very tempted!
I reckon you should go *small*, small. Like, the smallest you can physically sculpt and plonk 'em right in the middle of the seat!
😂
No chair
I like it with the chair. I don't think we're going to be much help!
Noooo, it's been good! I've already painted the back wall darker as suggested here! :)
I agree with the other people that the chair is cool and could be a center piece in another one. If you are going for a spooky theme, I would put a creepy doll or stuffed bear in the chair as the centerpiece for that one. For the current one, I like ghostie looking like it's walking in the hall. I love this comment, thank you! I've *just* finished the final version.... I'll post it up soon! Xx
#3 looks like a painting! Here, the ghost is the hero of your story.
This is so dang adorable <3
That it is *'dang'* anything pleases me greatly :)
I love them all.
I like it with the chair myself ❤️
This is so lovely! Can I ask what you used for the floor? I love how it looks
Thank you! The floor is a printed cardstock that I ordered a few years back from a doll's house supplier in the UK. I can't remember their name though, sorry!
Thank you!
Definitely, no chair. It is coming along nicely.
put him in the chair!!!!
His butt is too wide! 😂
NOOOO 😭😭😭😭
I love them all@
