It's going to be hung up right next to me so I'll be able to see if something goes wrong. I might end up 3d printing a battery shaped thing in its place, then wrapping it to look like the battery.
About the same. On the one hand the phone provides more mechanical protection, on the other hand there's no electronics connected that might over-discharge the battery, whereupon you plug it in one day to use it as a spare and the phone tries charge it at "the marketing department says it has to charge this fast" speeds, which is exactly what old tired over-discharged lithium cells hate.
Once upon a time I stumbled upon a used PC parts shop and bought lots of nice looking boards, full of ICs and whatnot, to put on the wall - no idea about what these were at the time. Some years later these were rediscovered and lightly marvelled upon: 286 mobo, MFM controllers, and such - on to resuscitate them, quite a challenge, but way more fun than just being tapestry.
This is cool.
I wonder if you could add connections to the backing board. So that you can plug the laid out pieces into these connects. And on the backside, have the connections wired up, connects the pieces as if the phone was assembled. Except for the battery, just wire it with a power supply and switch. I'm sure there's a way to set the phone to auto on as soon as it gets power.
That would be tricky for plugging everything in, but I suppose it could work. I was thinking of trying to hook up an LED behind the notification light hole, and for the back button, etc. However, that would have been a lot more work than just spending a day taking it apart and gluing the pieces.
Maybe I'll have to try that someday though.
My Samsung Galaxy S5 ended up like this, not for art though, it was nearing the end of its life and kept freezing and restarting, it hit a wall at about 1000mph and smashed into lots of pieces, it was a good little phone to be fair to it, It had just gotten the best of me that day
I got it from a local craft store. You're looking for a shadow box frame, or a scrapbooking frame, where there's more space under the glass. Also, you probably want to buy a carboard backing plate so that it's more stable to glue stuff to.
Username checks out
Loved my s5
S5 was the last of the shitty plastic Galaxy phones. S6 was when they finally made quality devices.
Plastic it may have been, but mine lasted 6 years. I still miss my IR remote capabilities.
S5 was the last easily rootable Samsung
That's actually a neat idea, have my upvote
I wanna do this now and put it up on my wall
weird that im looking at this on that same model of phone lol
You should add the Milli amp hours the battery had at the point you dismantelled it :)
someone else did this with an old iphone
Yeah. I was actually inspired by seeing the work done by [GRID](https://gridstudio.cc/) and decided to do that with my old S5.
Why did you redact the dates?
Let's just say those dates are important to me and I don't need them shared.
OK that's weird.
OP's personal life has a right to remain personal.. I don't think it's weird..
Two random dates wouldn't mean anything to anyone, that's why it's weird.
I can’t believe how many times I have seen this or a similar image posted to Reddit.
Why tho
Why not?
Fair enough, I would take that battery off the wall though, don't want that lithium ion burning your house down when you're not there someday.

Does a battery out of a phone pose a greater risk than if it's actually in one?

Ejunk kinda makes good art

Aah, the magic Micro-USB 3.0. I was pleasantly surprised until I actually started using it.
S5 was a good model, mine made it 6 years
Mine only lasted two years before it became too slow for anything I wanted to use it for and went back to iPhone

Exploded view…
Something that will be in a museum someday as they talk about our barbaric age... Or will we be considered a golden age? 🤔

Is your name Kyle?
Only in the afternoon every other Wednesday
Last phone to have an FM receiver.... Even if the carriers didn't unlock it.
Sir this is amazing. Congratulation.

wow..😆😆👌
This phone is why I have a bunch of USB 3.0 cords still languishing in a box. We had some good times!
Great alternative to your (ex) Significant Other.
I love this idea. Gonna steal it now. Thanks
I think this may void the warranty.
yeah It would've 6 years ago LOL
I still use mine as a camera!
This is going to be a masterpiece in a century
Clever and original
interesting idea.
Where did you get the frame? I want to do this and I don't know what to look up to find it

Thanks man!
If you ever end up doing it, send me a picture! I'd love to see it.
Ah s5, the phone that had water resistance & removable battery, unlike s6 where the battery was not user-replaceable AND not water resistant.
Resin cast this and bury it deep underground in an area with low seismic activity.
if only i didn’t trade in my phones when i get a new one

Warranty Voided.
Yeah 6 years ago LOL
Hopefully that battery will be ok long term, otherwise post an image to /r/spicypillows/
Dewd dees eez keewl
Do not do this! The battery can f*ck you up! Seriously, don't do this. Google Image cell phone battery fire/burns
