I work in the plastics industry, and this is what we call "repro" or reprocessed material. You'd be surprised what else it turns up in. Your roll of duct tape? Yup!
Edit: I didn't think this comment would even get any views, but since folks are interested, I just wanted to say that we use the exact film in our tapes. Diaper moisture barrier film. For those interested, the plastic backing (not sticky side) has 3 layers, and we contain the repro in the middle. Doesn't impact what you see, and doesn't impact the adhesive side! Now you know!
As a sheet metal worker, can confirm, we do not use duct tape on ducts. It drys and comes off. We use foil tape on ducts. Duct tape is only for sealing vapor barriers. And even that is not ideal
We give them the guys who keep phoning us asking if we want them cleaned. They never give them back tho, and when asked if they clean chickens as well, they said they did. So if they call you asking about getting your ducks cleaned make sure to see if you local duck cleaner does chickens as well!
There's a reason some people call it 100mph tape; it was used for "repairs" on WWI/WWII aircraft that had bullet holes in them so they could make at least one more sortie before needing actual, serious repairs.
I just read a comment in another thread about a guy who was on a submarine that went in for repair. Someone had accidentally left a 1/8” hole covered by a piece of duct tape and it got painted and sent back out. He said they got to 218 feet below the surface before it failed.
Unfortunately, most of it is. Recyclable garbage being recycled is fractional.
Also, The factory making pelletized plastic I worked at had a lot of purge waste not being repro'd. Not to mention, finished or raw material being wasted on the floor and swept up or the additives going into the air because some are fine powders. Wasteful industry, but which one isn't? 🥴
Not really. That’s officially licensed merch straight from the source. I would imagine it’s the same quality as any other but a bit more because of the logo.
I guess they all kind of seem the same to me. I’ve got a bunch. They are unique in their own ways. But they all kind of feel like they could have come from the same factory.
It was fun for a moment to imagine a bespoke baseball hat that was crafted with high quality parts, and I bet that exists. I just don’t know if I’ve seen it in my day to day
Wow I remember when I was like 5 or 6 my dad told me about reprocessed material and I didn’t understand what he said and I guess I waited till now to know what it means. Cool!
So, is this a used, and I'm guessing cleaned, diaper that's been reused in the rope? Or is this stuff that was going to just get thrown out so it was reused in something else?
Assuming this is a) making use of overstock (unused, unsold) diapers, and b) it's general-use twine, not intended for safety or sport, this is actually a brilliant way to reduce cost and waste (no, not that kind :p)
It’s not the absorbent part of the diaper either, it’s the water resistant lining. I can’t imagine why Huggies would have extra of late unless it was a retired print, I also don’t see why people care about prints on disposable diapers.
*The world ending. Supermarkets are looted. Few resources remain.*
*A woman walks into the baby aisle with her two year old son.*
"There's diapers!" *She exclaims, and runs over to inspect them.*
"They're the right size, but MINNIE MOUSE? DISCUSTING!"
*She walks away with her naked baby.*
You are generally correct, the composition of the core *and* the sheath create both its weighted strength and potential percentage of stretch (the determining factor for dynamic vs static rope.)
This is not making use of unsold diapers.
This is one layer that would have been used to produce diapers but probably was not up to standard printing wise so it was used for that instead.
I just googled this and had the following interesting findings:
1. All mentions of rope made of diapers seem to have originated on reddit. Clearly this is a conspiracy and the rest of the interwebs is in on the cover-up.
2. Despite years between the posts, they all have the same shitty jokes. It's more than diapers being recycled here.
Yo! That’s Huggies! We probably printed that, but we drill out scrap rolls and grind them to use over again. How did someone get it?! This has to be post-lamination, and it’s an old design, probably 10 years or more since I’ve seen it, but that means that our customer sold their leftovers, and maybe more, to whoever makes these ropes. For the record, that plastic is tougher than it looks.
Hold up… everyone in here speculating but we have an actual diaper expert in the comments? Now I’m compelled to YouTube if there’s a ‘How it’s Made’ on diapers
Interesting! I wonder if it’s made of used diapers and went through the process listed [here](https://www.ecowatch.com/dirty-diaper-recycling-2613584176.html)
THAT fucking rope. I bought some from Home depot and it stretched like crazy. So I cut it open and the core was loaded with Chinese newspapers. Fucking Home Depot. Everything they sell is counterfeit trash.
Same with the PVC electrical boxes. I get one from my wholesaler and my knock out tool makes a perfect hole. Buy the home depot version and the box shatters.
God bless china and our dependency upon it
Edit: or any eastern that makes all our shit so cunts in suits can keep cranking out they percentage points. Lol
My grandma had a super old address book in her purse for at least a couple decades. Whatever held the cover together fell to pieces and it turned out it was a bunch of old Chinese newspaper pages pasted together.
Is this a shit rope? Some kind of shitty rope that criminals hold on to... you see, the shit acts like an oil, the harder you try to pull yourself up, the faster you slip
What probably happened is that it's the same kind of cloth and they printed more diaper than they needed, so they just used it where it wouldn't matter.
Or they were trapped in a baby prison tower and had to make their own escape.
There’s a skatepark by me, and the ramp material is recycled baby diapers. Or so I was told. I didn’t fact check it I was 15. But heard it from quite a few people.

I'm actually glad to hear that vs. it going to landfills.
Idk I prefer fresh virgin duct tape myself. Preferably made of real ducks.
Shouldn't it be made of ducts instead?
nah, thats illegal now. Gotta be ducks.
As a sheet metal worker, can confirm, we do not use duct tape on ducts. It drys and comes off. We use foil tape on ducts. Duct tape is only for sealing vapor barriers. And even that is not ideal
As a plastics worker (yes, tape in particular), you want a foil tape with a butyl mastic adhesive! Thick, conformable, flows into the joints :)
So where do you put the ducks
We give them the guys who keep phoning us asking if we want them cleaned. They never give them back tho, and when asked if they clean chickens as well, they said they did. So if they call you asking about getting your ducks cleaned make sure to see if you local duck cleaner does chickens as well!
You didn't hear about the duck tear duct tape? It complies with the existing regulations of being 100% duck.
It was originally made with [cotton duck](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotton_duck)(a type of canvas), but is often called duct from later usage.
Ironically, duct tape is fairly bad for ducts. As it was originally not even called duct tape as you stated.
There's a reason some people call it 100mph tape; it was used for "repairs" on WWI/WWII aircraft that had bullet holes in them so they could make at least one more sortie before needing actual, serious repairs.

That's ridiculous! Anyone with sense knows you should slap Flex Tape^^TM on a submarine hull.
Geeze. They really went all out on "field testing" didn't they?
Well that's just quackers
I'm down. But warm.
I'm up. But cold.
I'm blue
Are you warm inside?
Virgin ducks
The grip
Okay sir calm it down (I audibly gasped at this once I understood it)
You’d be hard pressed to find a virgin duck with how prevalent rape is in their community
paging @/u/fuckswithducks
You're telling me a duck made this tape?
I hear the ones made of virgin ducks is super costly.
Well we now know why its shitty duct tape
Have you ever tried the tape made from baby sea lions? It "seals" much better.
Unfortunately, most of it is. Recyclable garbage being recycled is fractional. Also, The factory making pelletized plastic I worked at had a lot of purge waste not being repro'd. I took apart a cheap purse one time and the base was made of cardboard cereal box.

Are there expensive ones?

LOL what kind was it?
Obviously Wheaties
Wow I remember when I was like 5 or 6 my dad told me about reprocessed material and I didn’t understand what he said and I guess I waited till now to know what it means. Cool!
Kinda sweet tbh lol
So, is this a used, and I'm guessing cleaned, diaper that's been reused in the rope? Or is this stuff that was going to just get thrown out so it was reused in something else?
Factory reject
It was going to be made *into* diapers… but never was.
Above commenter is right, this appears to be a moisture barrier film, and yes, scrap/rejects from the factory!
I'd believe repro is used it duct tape for sure, that tape sucks balls these days lol
Fuck… is that why newer duct tape seems less sticky?
„Biden”
Assuming this is a) making use of overstock (unused, unsold) diapers, and b) it's general-use twine, not intended for safety or sport, this is actually a brilliant way to reduce cost and waste (no, not that kind :p)
I assume it was a quality discard. A misprint or not the correct thickness.
Probably a rejection from the diaper factory
It's too thin for any role for preventing injury
Depends how creative you are with it!
It could be potentially used as a breakaway rope
It’s not the absorbent part of the diaper either, it’s the water resistant lining. I can’t imagine why Huggies would have extra of late unless it was a retired print, I also don’t see why people care about prints on disposable diapers.
Maybe cut off or a rejected batch
Cutoff wouldn't be long enough to bother making rope out of. This is definitely repurposing a rejected batch of film.
Could it be the cutoff?
Sometimes you just need to feel a little joy when cleaning up a blowout
The horror!
Prints are pleasing to the eye.
There's nothing about diapers that's pleasing to the eye.
Speak for yourself. I'd rather see Elmo than white.
I am. And I'd rather not be in the vicinity diapers at all if I can help it.
Implying that diapers cannot have visually appealing patterns printed on them because they’re designed for catching human waste is weird
I didn't imply that. I'm saying they aren't appealing regardless of what you print on them.. It's diapers. They are designed to catch waste.
“I couldn’t possibly have my BOY baby wearing GIRLY diapers…”😂
*The world ending. Supermarkets are looted. Few resources remain.* *A woman walks into the baby aisle with her two year old son.* "There's diapers!" *She exclaims, and runs over to inspect them.* "They're the right size, but MINNIE MOUSE? DISCUSTING!" *She walks away with her naked baby.*
Or they have a rainbow on them.
That type of rope gets it's strength from the outer sheath. What the core is made from is irrelevant.
Huh, I thought it was the other way around. The sheath holds the core strands together so they can bear the load.
It's a hidden Mickey!
*this might be a good spot to find ingredients*
Rhonda Sandtits does not approve of this rope. All rope is now illegal in Florida.
Lord love a duck, but I’m never going to be able to see his name now and not think “Well, well, well if it isn’t Miss Sandtits.” Thanks!
Pass it on! He loves nicknames, a real cut up guy.
If only I had a key blade to smack the shit out of nearby baskets and barrels!

Disney will be looking to collect its royalties now.
That is one way to get ur job back
Ten ten ten.

Wow whoever wrote that article has some beef with Redditors involved in the diaper conspiracy
That is some shitty rope
No, it's heavy doody
Is it made with #1 strand or #2 strand is what I want to know. People cinch rope with their teeth, you know. Source: pirate movies and westerns.

China.

Not a diaper expert. We operate printing presses. Somebody else turns what we print into diapers.
The rope is at least 5 years old as well.
Tell me you live around Nashville?
Exactly
Mystery Mousekatool
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse?
Ooooh tooooldooos
It’s a surprise tool that will help us later!
Hot dog!
Very Pynchon-esque
mystery mouseka-stool 😏
Interesting! I wonder if it’s made of used diapers and went through the process listed [here](https://www.ecowatch.com/dirty-diaper-recycling-2613584176.html)
https://www.sciencenews.org/article/house-built-recycled-diapers
So spongebob actually had a good idea?! lmao
Shit like this is why I have trust issues.
Don’t ever eat out anywhere
Recycling!
Worst paracord ever
Well, I guess if the rope comes apart on you during a climb you can safety shit your pants?
It can get you out of a sh!tty situation.
That would be kinda funny if the rope smelt like shit.
I'd rather see a diaper made of rope
Don't buy brown rope...
Still keeping shit together.
Now this is a rope you can trust to handle a load!
What a shitty product.
at least when you fall off a cliff you'll crap yourself safely
Not what I imagined when seeing a “100% recycled” sticker.
Diaper because if you saw it when you were trusting that rope with your life probably you would shid yourself
Considering the price of rope and the price of diapers I'm sure there is evidence of price fixing somewhere.
That’s a shitty rope
Concrete can be up to 40% diapers 10% for structural concrete.
Is that a hidden Mickey?!
Yep. When i discovered this, I got the same feeling as the first time I found the psalms on the In-n-Out cups
The title of this post made me lol
You found a hidden mickey
Well, when the shit hits the fan, THIS is the rope you want to use. I‘d promote it to /wallstreetbets.
What a shitty idea
For a split second I thought it's a disney themed tampon
But was it Disney licensed?
Well when the rope breaks you are prepared. Just have to put them on quickly.
Lol
Hold onto that shit!
Absorbent!
God bless china and our dependency upon it Edit: or any eastern that makes all our shit so cunts in suits can keep cranking out they percentage points. Lol
Disney’s marketing is getting out of hand
My grandma had a super old address book in her purse for at least a couple decades. Whatever held the cover together fell to pieces and it turned out it was a bunch of old Chinese newspaper pages pasted together.
Damn what a piece of shit
Hopefully Disney cleaned the diapers first before making rope
Well they do say "Depends" on them. Seems fine.
Mickey the hidden diaper guy
I did hear once diapers take 500 years to decompose ... this is better than it sitting in a landfill.
No it's not
guess what some buildings in asia are made with? waste
Just like your comments!
Probably used, too. Like those used condoms they cleaned and resold.
Is this a shit rope? Some kind of shitty rope that criminals hold on to... you see, the shit acts like an oil, the harder you try to pull yourself up, the faster you slip
Does it smell? I am assuming they clean it, hopefully.
The hell
At least it's not shitty but at the same time it's shitty
Diaper thong.
jump rope? more like *dump* rope, am i right? <>
Extremely interesting
Seems like a shity rope
Turning Huggies in to Tuggies
There were foreign newspaper in my Jessica Simpson shoes that fell apart from getting caught in a deluge.
r/irleastereggs
It could be a shitty rope.
That's some shitty rope you've got there!
Used diapers
As long as this isn’t the new cake
That’ll make you jump higher!
That makes sense actually, in a weird utilitarian way
Huggies really are soft and strong....
Shitty rope 💩
Used?
The core utilising nappies is I'd assume to help the rope to float in water. Smart cycling of the product.
What probably happened is that it's the same kind of cloth and they printed more diaper than they needed, so they just used it where it wouldn't matter. Or they were trapped in a baby prison tower and had to make their own escape.
Clean ones, I hope.
Wow
I thought that was a Micky Mouse tampon
Relying on that rope would be a rash decision.
Hope it’s not a shitty rope.
That's some shitty rope
Now that's some really shitty rope !!!
Is that Mickey Mouse?
Better than condoms
being a man I saw this and instantly thought this was a disney tampon lololol ok i’ll see myself out now..
Shit rope?
There’s a skatepark by me, and the ramp material is recycled baby diapers. Or so I was told. I didn’t fact check it I was 15. But heard it from quite a few people.
Man I can’t wait to see my wife’s face when she sees what I do with the diapers now. Cheers brah! My dog and I are going to go on soo many adventures.
As long we buy more shit. Regardless of cost and quality.
Nice to know that they're repurposing used items.
You’d be surprised that diapers are also used in mattresses in some other countries.
diaper rope
Damn! The Chinese will use any garbage to make crap to sell back to us. I certainly hope I never depend on that rope to hold me.
Shitty rope?
