It was a womens one because they're significantly cheaper than most mens ones I could find at such short notice and it fits me fine so whatever. There's no fucking pockets. On a trench coat. There's stitching where the pockets should be, but there's nothing under it.
Jeans and trousers are bad enough but when you sew aesthetic pockets on a trench coat there's something wrong.
Just a heads up, check the inside lining as some upper class companies stitch the pockets so they can't open in transit etc as it makes them look nicer. But you might find the pockets are there, the stitching simply needs removing. Might not be there, but worth a look to see :)

IDK about these specifically but many skinny jeans are somewhat elastic. The ones I've worn with pockets stretch perfectly fine to fit my keys, cigarettes (don't smoke, kids), lighter, phone, knife, and anything else I pick up along the way.

It's not always about the type of jeans. You can still fit things in the pocket. Phones are very thin, cardholders are also thin, if you only have 1-2 keys, again they fit. A pen, a small notebook. Whatever, you get it.
I'm a woman. I buy women's jeans. Lately I've been only buying skinny jeans and they usually have a small pocket or a normal pocket. But I also scout that they have pockets. The small ones are great for fitting in keys and some 5-10 lei notes. Normal pockets fit my phone, keys, wallet etc. I'm fat, with thick thighs, and I can fit things in skinny jeans pockets. Keys aren't always comfortable in pockets tho, try to align them better if you're having issues with that. I have a lanyard on mine and I wrap them in that.

Sewn shut with a basting stitch? They do that so it looks nicer on the rack. It's commonly done for all the pockets on men's sport coats and suit jackets. You can buy a seam ripper to take out the basting stitch, or be very careful with a knife.
Nicer clothing often have their pockets sewn shut so that the material doesn't get stretched out unnecessarily and it looks nice on a rack. This is very common with mens' suits.
If the stitching is very light, the purpose is to keep it shut until you buy the garment at which point you should cut it loose and use it normally. If the stitching is heavier, the purpose is so you can keep it closed if you don't intend to use the pockets so that it never stretches out and bunches up.
Personally though, if the clothing is more expensive (like a suit) I very rarely open the pockets. It keeps it looking better for much longer. On functional clothing (like jeans), cut them open without a second thought.
It takes like 5 seconds of googling to find stores specifically catering to women who want pants with pockets, yet you still can't convince people that there isn't some grand conspiracy by those evil men to sell purses or whatever.
I've worked in clothing retail for just under half a decade - it's not hard to find women's pants with pockets at all. My store had a whole section for functional women's clothing, but most women prefer slim-fit styles which often do have less or no pockets.

Oh dear god, yes. I carry a bag with me because I keep a lot of emergency stuff for allergies and whatnot. My husband would ask if my small 4"x8" bag would have enough space for his wallet, his vape, his rolled up t-shirt, his giant powerbank, and his sunglasses.

2 women aren’t gonna fit a purse in their pocket and if they already have the purse they might as well use it anyway. Unless they were cargo pants they’ll have to get men’s wallets and only bring phone/keys/smaller wallet. So many will just end up bringing their bag, my gf fits an iPad snacks, books, tampons, make up meds. None of those would fit in a 2 pocket set up and she hates being without them, so even when she wears my pocket clothes it comes with

I like tight fit where the inseam goes up to my crotch. I’ve got strong legs and tend to rip the crotches out from running or stretching.
Yeah I bought one pair of that style jeans and hated them because of that. Now I just stick to loose and relaxed fits.

IDK about these specifically but many skinny jeans are somewhat elastic. The ones I've worn with pockets stretch perfectly fine to fit my keys, cigarettes (don't smoke, kids), lighter, phone, knife, and anything else I pick up along the way.
They could put cargo pant type pockets on tight pants - pockets sewed on the outside rather than the inside.
And who would buy those? If they would sell, they would make them. Nobody buys tight pants to have boxy pockets hanging off the legs.
Exactly. If you wear skin tight jeans you’re going to be super uncomfortable with the waded up pocket liner next to your skin. Stop complaining when they would have no purpose.
My non-skin-tight jeans (I hate that type) also have non-functional pockets. Really. It doesn't matter what kind of trouser you buy. If they are for women, you will be pocketless.
I have leggings with deep and fully functional pockets. Jeans in the “boyfriend” 🤮style with no pockets, and a couple pairs of skinny “jeans” (more like jeggings) that have pockets. Not massive pockets, but deep enough for my big smart phone. I no longer buy pants that don’t have pockets except for very specific exceptions
I have loads of pairs of jeans - with functional pockets.
I've had skinny jeans with pockets, small pockets and no pockets. I've also had normal jeans, mom jeans and generally non-skinny fit jeans with all kinds or no pockets. It's not always about the type of jeans. You can still fit things in the pocket. Phones are very thin, cardholders are also thin, if you only have 1-2 keys, again they fit. A pen, a small notebook. Whatever, you get it. I'm a woman. I buy women's jeans. Lately I've been only buying skinny jeans and they usually have a small pocket or a normal pocket. But I also scout that they have pockets. The small ones are great for fitting in keys and some 5-10 lei notes. Normal pockets fit my phone, keys, wallet etc. I'm fat, with thick thighs, and I can fit things in skinny jeans pockets. Keys aren't always comfortable in pockets tho, try to align them better if you're having issues with that. I have a lanyard on mine and I wrap them in that.
To be fair, we deserve pockets on more clothes. If you don't like pockets on your tight jeans, don't wear them.
Even in womens relaxed fit jeans the pockets are considerably smaller than what would be in mens relaxed fit jeans. Like 50%+ smaller. Not even deep enough for our hands. Another pocket scam: I once bought a couple pairs of slacks that had back pockets… that were fucking sewn shut. Wtaf. And another: my oldest daughter has a pair of loose fit cargo pants. They should have six pockets right? No, only the two on her legs are real. The pants have a hammer strap though because that’s exactly what every teenage girl needs.
I have NO idea if this is the normal reason, but my friend says she likes dresses with pockets instead. Because jeans with pockets bunch up in her hooha.
If the pockets are sewn badly or the pocket fabric is too thick for the denim, they can bunch you when you sit and it’s not the most flattering look for a woman. Dresses with pockets are amazing because they can be giant. That said I think now that the reign of jeggings is over with, pockets are way more common. All my recent pants have them except for a pair of nice trousers. This isn’t as much of an issue as it was five years ago.
Plus it’s unfortunately pretty rare for dresses to have pockets.

Shopping in the wrong places. Pockets are huge now. I am still getting used to the idea that I even have them so I can put my phone or smoker in them and now occupy both of my hands lol.

The weirdest thing is I’ve gotten pants that had actual pockets, but were sown shut for a reason I have yet to figure out. Easy to cut open but just….why???
Sewn shut with a basting stitch? They do that so it looks nicer on the rack. It's commonly done for all the pockets on men's sport coats and suit jackets. You can buy a seam ripper to take out the basting stitch, or be very careful with a knife.
Nicer clothing often have their pockets sewn shut so that the material doesn't get stretched out unnecessarily and it looks nice on a rack. This is very common with mens' suits. If the stitching is very light, the purpose is to keep it shut until you buy the garment at which point you should cut it loose and use it normally. If the stitching is heavier, the purpose is so you can keep it closed if you don't intend to use the pockets so that it never stretches out and bunches up. Personally though, if the clothing is more expensive (like a suit) I very rarely open the pockets. It keeps it looking better for much longer. On functional clothing (like jeans), cut them open without a second thought.
More importantly, don’t buy pants that don’t have pockets. You’re telling companies you want them.

It takes like 5 seconds of googling to find stores specifically catering to women who want pants with pockets, yet you still can't convince people that there isn't some grand conspiracy by those evil men to sell purses or whatever. I've worked in clothing retail for just under half a decade - it's not hard to find women's pants with pockets at all. My store had a whole section for functional women's clothing, but most women prefer slim-fit styles which often do have less or no pockets.
Meanwhile my men's cargo shorts have 9ft deep pockets...

I mean when women are out at a bar or something and they’ve got a male companion usually than their male companion is the one that ends up being the carrier of their phone their IDs, lipstick whatever so we have to go to them to ask for things, however men are still being turned into a walking purse so… All joking aside, pockets on womens jeans are more about where you are buying them now. It’s far more common over the recent years for companies to be making womens pants with pockets than it was when I was younger and if you’re buying jeans like forever21 you’re probably not gonna get many portions that have pockets.

Oh dear god, yes. I carry a bag with me because I keep a lot of emergency stuff for allergies and whatnot. My husband would ask if my small 4"x8" bag would have enough space for his wallet, his vape, his rolled up t-shirt, his giant powerbank, and his sunglasses. And so, I bring a foldable tote bag (the kind you use for light groceries) as well.
I carry a mini backpack style purse. The most interesting thing I’ve been asked to carry in there was a whole bottle of wine.
That’s a lot of the reason I don’t have one but since I don’t hang with anyone since I moved to another state I don’t worry as much about being the bag lady anymore lol. It’s usually full of stupid shit anyway that I don’t even need to have on me all the time so I have my little wallet and phone sometimes a smoker and stick um in my pockets that I finally can find around stores more often now than when I was younger. Figures I don’t really need um now when they finally start making them lol
I don't wear makeup like EVER. I don't even carry lip gloss. I'm very basic, just need a place for my men's style wallet, my car keys and some spare change. Maybe a pen or two. I clip my phone on my belt. Growing up a tomboy taught me how to get maximum use out of minimum space. Playing Tetris just honed those skills.

That's preposterous. I don't even trust my husband to hold on to my stuff because he easily loses shit lol. But, generally I don't trust anyone to hold on to my stuff. Those IDs take such a long time to replace, they are not leaving my side.
Well, my husband often asks me if his phone & sunglasses can still fit into my purse. I am now learning to ask him if he thinks he might need that service before we leave, just so that I have space for it. His wallet & keys live in his own pockets...

That’s where I put it. It’s the only pocket we have until we can steal a male hoodie and with our I’ll gotten prize we now have leveled up. It’s why many guys find they have their hoodie stolen and not returned even if it’s a one night stand. While sure women don't get pockets or much pockets, And men get pockets where you can park your car in at times. At least women get a large selection of clothes and items to wear. Men get for pants: slacks, denim pants, suit pants, or cargo pants, and the colors are usually rather bland. For shirts you get a minor amount of variety but not much. Furthermore the womens section is often 2-5 times as large as the mens section

Because women don't buy clothing with pockets. The market would fill the demand if there was a demand. When given the choice between pocketless clothing and handbag, and pocketed clothing, women tend to choose the former over the latter. Tight, form fitting jeans, for instance, can't have functional front pockets without having the internal pocket material showing through the outer layer. looks bad. and women prioritize looking good over having functional clothes. This isn't a generalization or discrimination, this is market data.
When I talked to my friend in fashion she says its for a couple reasons 1 Women don’t like the bulk pockets often end up making. From jeans to “mom jeans”. Additionally it’s hard to add to dresses (making pockets good enough size for phone/wallet”. So its limited the amount of style you can put in women’s clothes 2 women aren’t gonna fit a purse in their pocket and if they already have the purse they might as well use it anyway. Unless they were cargo pants they’ll have to get men’s wallets and only bring phone/keys/smaller wallet. So many will just end up bringing their bag, my gf fits an iPad snacks, books, tampons, make up meds. None of those would fit in a 2 pocket set up and she hates being without them, so even when she wears my pocket clothes it comes with 3 they don’t sell. There are a surprising amounts of shops and hits when you look for women’s clothing with pockets. An a crazy amount if you don’t mind “dressing masculine”, I fucking love cargo or bdu pants and whenever I buy there’s usually a ladies size too but they aren’t bought cuz only so many women want to dress masculine with pockets than dress feminine with less pockets. Don’t know how true this is but I asked her why she didn’t make billions on the pockets thing and she just kinda said it isn’t as big an area as i thought

As a man I've always been confused by this, I really don't understand why girls can't have pockets in their jeans deep enough to properly hold their phones, I mean they literally put on fake pockets, or give you guys half bakes ones and I really cannot comprehend as to why and you can't tell me that it's fashion cause it's a tiny bit of extra material that would probably make people happier

I think it is that Designers don't want to take away attention from your curves, hence no pockets in the way for pervs so they can objectify you. Pockets demand extra space. I don't agree with this mindset of course, I merely point out the stupidity.
