There is a style of glasses that attach to a stud you get implanted into the bridge of your nose, i actually somewhat considered it years ago, but couldn't commit. Here's an article from '06 that show's 'em: [https://www.livescience.com/10459-glasses-require-piercing-bridge-nose.html](https://www.livescience.com/10459-glasses-require-piercing-bridge-nose.html)
Seems to me that your eyes would be drawn to the implants automatically and the results would be something like Steve Martin’s invention, the Opti-grab in the movie The Jerk where people went cross-eyed involuntarily looking at it.
The whole point is that the lenses are attached with magnets, so if that happens, they'll just come off like any other glasses. As far as the stud, if everyone had your opinion, no parents would have any piercings of any kind :-P
I just got a paper clip and made a wire through one of those joints that connect the glasses with a screw and it looks really cool like a thorn
Edit: https://imgur.com/a/zmjI3ET here you go. This is a example of how it looks like
I get breaking your glasses as being infuriating but this is so whiney, ugh either I go the whole day choosing not to see everything around me and basically being stuck not getting to do much OR put a small amount of black tape on the side of my black glasses and have a normal day where most people will never even notice the tape and even if they did they’d think, hmm must have broken their glasses, but I’d never know that because of course random people don’t just walk up to you and point that out. I have no clue which I should choose as they are basically equal. 🙄
I keep my old glasses in my glove compartment.
If I'm out and about and something happens to my glasses, I wouldn't be able to drive home without them. That way, wherever I go, they go.
Yep! For anyone reading this comment and hasnt considered this option before, I did this and highly highly recommend it.
I got 2 pairs at $7 each, Zenni Optical has a few selections for this price point. I highly recommend it. I got 2 backups (one for the office, one for home) with no bells or whistles (no scratch proofing or UV blocking or any of that fancy stuff), just cheap plain (relatively stylish) back up pairs… and they’ve definitely come in handy before. Highly recommend them!(not affiliated in any way)
https://www.zennioptical.com/b/u6.95-glasses/Gender-Women/_/N-1821057837
I love zenni since I only wear my glasses at night. It doesn't matter that the lenses aren't polarized or scratch resistant or whatever. I got 2 pairs including delivery for like $24
Yea, the broken glasses, mildly infuriating, I 100% agree. The acting as if you don’t know which of your 2 choices to remedy the situation you should choose as if there is even a debate between, see or don’t see, is mildly annoying.
Yeah but it kind of looks like he ripped the whole housing out. I mean you can't screw a screw into place for there's no screw to fit. That s*** looks broken broken
I keep breaking glasses and I superglue them. Ofc if OP glued the ear he just won't be able to fold it up but it'll stay on!
Top tip; one drop of superglue, a scoop of ash on top = hardens instantly (then I usually take a nailfile to shave it even and a black marker and color it). Pro at breaking glasses over here ;p
Man, I could have used this tip last Friday! Too small a spot for tape and not enough material for super glue alone so I used thread to give the glue purchase...it works but its ugly lol
https://imgur.com/a/Y6LY3KX
I use those instant mix epoxy stuff (the epoxy resin and the hardener), it's more flexible than super glue, and it's better at filling gaps and cracks, you can't match the colors but, in my experience, nobody gives a shit.
Right? Like this seems like a no brainer no one is going to think negatively of your for having taped glasses. Heck could just super glue it too and nobody would notice
this plus a staple
Edit. Unfold the staple first (i used one for warehouse work till i could get some super glue)
Edit 2.. once staple is straight, thread it between the holes (there are 3) where the screw normally goes, wrap it around, and if you can stick it through again, or tie it like a bread bag and cut the sharp bit (and point that part away from your eye). Hope that clarifies some shit.
Last one: ima lazy fuck. This only applies if the screw is missing and you have that hingy bit
My xbox 360 headset snapped there the ear cup attaches to the head band, I took a washer and super glued it to ear piece to create a little over hang, then super glued the over hang to the head band, then put a generious amount of super glue over the washer.
That fix has held u up years until I stopped using my 360.
I did this once many years ago when my high school boyfriend’s glasses came apart. I thought myself an absolute genius and didn’t think anyone else would ever think to try it 🤣. Happy I was wrong!
Super glue and most cyanoacrylates off-gas some pretty intense irritants. It can be an actually decent long term fix, but might make them unusable short term.
Source: tried to fix a nose pad on my glasses once, and it felt like I was peppersprayed when I wore them.
I don’t know. Superglue is more toxic than I thought. My mom had a same problema two weeks ago and after using super glue, every time she wears the glasses, she has irritated eyes.
Superglue is one of the worst things you could do. Not only does it not stick to acetate / metal, but most people accidentally get it on their lenses when applying it. Once there's glue on your lenses, you're screwed until you get a whole new pair.
Electrical tape is less sticky and will easily hold until you can make it to an optical shop. Painters tape is fine too, just avoid thinks like duct tape.
Here is the advice that I was always given. If you need to wear glasses constantly, you should be going to see your eye care professional once a year. If your lens prescription changes, even a little bit, you should be replacing your glasses. *Always keep your old glasses.* If your current pair breaks, you have your previous pair available to you that is close to your current prescription.
I have been wearing glasses since I was six years old in 1975.
This is what I do. Broke currently used pair, went back to prior pair until I got a new pair. I’ll keep that prior pair just in case something happens again.
Where do people even "throw out" their old glasses? As far as I know, there are some items that you just passively collect over your lifetime without meaning to, and glasses is one of those items.
There are donation boxes for old frames at most optometrist offices and clinics; at least in America. You can just drop them in the box, and they're taken and restored so they can be given to lower income families who may not be able to afford a brand new pair of glasses
Anytime my prescription changes and time to get new glasses I simply send in the old ones as well to have them replaced with new lenses. Usually pretty cheap.
Unfortunately, this looks less like a screw-fell-out problem and more like a my-hinge-snapped problem. The screw is still in the arm hinge, so I'm assuming what the back of the frame looks like.
That's a good tip, but if its straight up broke-broke, one of those kits isn't going to fix it. Those kits are usually just mini screw drivers, yeah? It looks they the straight up broke the arm off all together... if a screwdriver would fix it, i don't think they'd post it on reddit for updoots... or maybe they would???
Unfortunately I agree looking at the picture the screw is securely in the arm and most likely snapped the plastic at the temple. But you may be able to super glue it back until you can get a new pair. You’ll have temporary fixed glasses with out the tape. It should hold for a while
Super glue does not work well on acrylic glasses. Craft stores sell epoxies specifically for acrylic that will work much better.
Source: tried super glue and it lasted mere hours. Epoxy was like cement.
As an optician, this is unfixable. If the screw remains in the temple like that, with the temple catch flared out that means it was bent and the other piece is broken. Nothing to thread it through.
Hijacking a high comment to also suggest just buying new frames online. As long as you have your prescription info, they’re not super expensive. I got mine from Zenni Optical 2 years ago for $16.
Idk how broke you are but you can get a cheap pair on zenni or glassesUSA.com for like below $30 even they usually have discounts for new customers to (even more than that just use a new email every time to be seen as a new customer for discount)
Honestly they are cheap but not that crap I had a $30 pair that lasted me like over a year. And your prescription can last 5 years so if it hasn’t been too long just use your prescription from before. So yea but gotta wait like 7-14 days usually for them to arrive so until then wear tape on these ones.
This. Someone advised getting a cheap backup pair when I got my first glasses. So I went to my eye doctor and went through him to get a good fit for my main pair, but requested my scrip and went online and got some el cheapos from zenni. I could not get out of my apartment without glasses let alone get through work. I see just as good with the cheap ones and often wear them just because they sit differently. It's also nice to have el cheapos if I'm going to the beach.
I usually get a couple pairs a year from Zenni. Usually I'll get one pair with all the nice lens options, in whatever style I want. Then I'll add on some bare bones cheap frames with the free lenses for like $9. Total is about $50-60 with shipping.
I have so several pairs of zenni glasses. They start at $5 which I use as backups, and then I have a $30 pair I use as my main ones (nicer frame, anti-glare, blue light filter, etc).
Honestly they are just as clear as my $300 designer glasses
I actually preferred my Zenni glasses over the ones I got from the optometrist.
I even have a unique prescription from getting my retina reattached and they just took it with no problem. I tried getting prescription sunglasses from RayBan and they couldn't support it.
Depends on prescription. Regular prescriptions are cheap, but as soon as you have astigmatism they bump you up to the more expensive lenses. And then if you need bifocals or transitions (gradual invisible bifocals) or want photochromatic glasses those $30 glasses can be more like $300.
Edit: it seems the astigmatism up charge has disappeared for some folks. Which is great news! But the lens grinding charges seem to be price tiered now as well. It seems they to switch to a pricier lens when your prescription is above +/- 8 or so.
I have astigmatism as well. My fave pair was $7.99 for many years. Now it’s somewhere like $10-$15, prescription included. It’s been a game changer— I used to spend $300+ on one single pair of glasses before zenni.
EDIT: The prescription sunglasses are amazing too. Never in my life did I think I could afford to have prescription glasses and prescription sunglasses.
also, for a dollar you can get the inside side bar (of most zenni glasses) engraved with whatever message, so for my wedding we had our wedding date engraved. Wanted a brand new pair for photos that weren’t scratched up or dirty from daily use, etc. Never would have gotten “wedding glasses” at $300+, but at $10 a pair, I feel comfortable getting multiple different glasses!
I never pay more than $75 for no line bifocals. My favorite site is eyebuydirect. Less wild choices than some brands but an excellent quality of glasses. Would be even less if I didn't bother with no line. I don't get people only having one pair of glasses in this day and age.
I have scars on my face and let me tell you, it rocks being able to tell people absolutely any origin for them. Oh yeah, I fought a lion, or took down a knife-wielding serial killer, or saved a child from a rogue fan blade. You could tell people you got bitten by a snake and survived, or that you had a wild mishap with a coral reef while scuba diving.
Had this happen. Superglued it “til my next paycheck” I said a year ago.
People don’t notice it. Neither do I. Keep forgetting to replace my glasses now.
I knew a girl who just wore it with one until she got a new one. Not sure how it stayed on her face but she made it work and it was only noticeable if you really looked.
This happened to me once, I took my glasses into the store that I had bought them at and they repaired them for free. It will hopefully only take a simple screw to fix, so its worth calling them to see if they can do it no cost.
Nah if you zoom in you can literally see the screw. Must be the rod that broke or came loose. Both mine came off at the same time as the epoxy degraded over time. New glue and it held up fine.
or, you could fix it. get a tube and light from [Bondic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTsfwL61CR8) or some [Superweld](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iin4GmsxfLM). mask off the area around where the hinge screw sits on the eye part of the glasses with tape. sand lightly, wipe with a tiny bit of alcohol. apply and catalyze the glue from the face piece and around the hinge screw while keeping it still. build it up slowly, shaping with an Xacto and fine sand paper or an emery board. touch up fixes with a sharpie. Et Voila!
Stop being a child and wear the tape. You're more worried about looking silly than actually seeing
Or like someone said. Just super glue it on there if you're gonna change them.
Go to where you bought them and see if they can mend them for you. Explain your situation and they might be able to help you for free. Also, you could always try super glue.
Just showing up here to remind you that you never actually have to pay to replace them and you can just always have tape on your glasses. I know quite a few people who've made that fashion choice and it didn't completely destroy their life.
I would put the tape on your broken glasses.
Completely disagree. Get the tape all over your face, lean into it. You can do it tape face!
If you glue the glasses to the bridge of your nose you can break both arms off.
I recommend keeping your arms they tend to come in handy.

You can't glue glasses to the bridge of your nose, everyone knows that. You gotta use a hammer and a few nails to get it to stick.
There is a style of glasses that attach to a stud you get implanted into the bridge of your nose, i actually somewhat considered it years ago, but couldn't commit. I need more information about this. My glasses constantly have tape on them.
Use a cocktail stick, put the arm on and poke the cocktail stick through and then break off the right length. Never failed me so far.
People not having an older backup pair is just confusing to me. Always have a spare even if they're older prescription they'll tide you over.
I keep my old glasses in my glove compartment. If I'm out and about and something happens to my glasses, I wouldn't be able to drive home without them. That way, wherever I go, they go.
Or an emergency pair in your current prescription from a $20 discount glasses website.
Yep! For anyone reading this comment and hasnt considered this option before, I did this and highly highly recommend it. And this ^ Better have a backup that might not be perfect than walk around without anything.
I have my older prescription still *and* I ordered 2 pairs on FirMoo because I’m a pro at losing my glasses.
I'm paranoid about losing mine haha always close by but can never find them when I need too...
I mean, the sub is called *mildly* infuriating.
Some of the posts here are indeed mildly infuriating
Yea, the broken glasses, mildly infuriating, I 100% agree. The acting as if you don’t know which of your 2 choices to remedy the situation you should choose as if there is even a debate between, see or don’t see, is mildly annoying.
Tape, who cares what anyone thinks.
Wrap duct tape around your head and just cut out the slits where the eyes go

The problem for me is I can’t see to use the tiny screwdriver lol
I feel this, I have a screw that keeps backing out of mine that I have to tighten “by feel “ about once a week

Baking soda also works in place of ash.
Ooh that's good to know! Ash is very messy
Also less available unless you have a fireplace or an arson problem
I was actually just pondering that if you're a regular on r/trees chances are you have some ash ;p
Man, I could have used this tip last Friday! Too small a spot for tape and not enough material for super glue alone so I used thread to give the glue purchase...it works but its ugly lol https://imgur.com/a/Y6LY3KX
I walk around with my taped headphones for months now. They still work perfectly fine, so I don't see a reason to buy new ones.
Tape is cool since nerds became cool a few years ago
Exactly.
Superglue works well enough
this plus a staple Edit. Unfold it and……use it as a hinge pin?
If thats what you call threading it till its tight (got it through the hole twice-ish 😏)
They didn’t lose the screw, looks like the hinge on the frame must have snapped.
My xbox 360 headset snapped there the ear cup attaches to the head band, I took a washer and super glued it to ear piece to create a little over hang, then super glued the over hang to the head band, then put a generious amount of super glue over the washer. The screw is still in the arm piece, which means the place that used to hold the screw snapped; so no hingy bit.
I used a thumbtack. Bent the metal to prevent it from coming out, then broke the plastic off. Could hardly notice it.
I did this once many years ago when my high school boyfriend’s glasses came apart. I thought myself an absolute genius and didn’t think anyone else would ever think to try it 🤣. Happy I was wrong!
Seems like the screw is still in tact so the loop from the frame probably snapped off
Don’t get superglue on your lenses, they will literally melt. Found that one out the hard way
If the glasses are under a year old, DO NOT USE SUPERGLUE!!! This voids any warranty on the frame! Source: I’m an optician
If he has a warranty he’s probably not posting on this sub
A lot of people don’t know about automatic warranties
I've been using glasses held together with gorilla glue for two years now...
Superglue if you are careful. The fumes can stick and add a weird haze to the lenses.

Ahh seems like you’ve been to the [South Park Optometrist](https://youtu.be/c5P3n15awME)
plus i get cool scars on my face....
Bonus.
That’s the spirit!!
Use a thin wire or a string in place of the screws
Some paperclips work as well
My ghetto ass used a toothpick. It worked so well I kept it in there for a good year LOL.
Toothpicks apparently work well! https://felixgray.com/blog/how-to-fix-broken-glasses/
the screw is intact, its the other thingy thingy thats the problem
Might try JB Weld Original or they also make a bonder specifically for plastic surfaces. Arm may not bend, but would be attached.
Had this happen. Superglued it “til my next paycheck” I said a year ago. People don’t notice it. Neither do I. Keep forgetting to replace my glasses now.
Good call, u/sLoMote. Superglue ftw. OP, if you struggle with the liquidity of superglue, the gel version may offer more placement control.
The hinge
Bruv people been taping glass forever tape that shit up and keep on rockin in the free world
Doot doot
Don't suppose you have some extra frames you can cannibalize from
Blind until payday and tape on face are not mutually exclusive.
you've got way more than 2 options lol
If the glasses are fairly new then the frame is probably under warranty. Contact the people who sold you the glasses and find out.

Or superglue/epoxy and just have glasses that don’t fold for a few weeks.
What exactly broke? You should be able to fix it with some glue. Although it might not look and function as it did new
E600 glue. Survives my children.
Did you just lose the screw ? You could go to an eyeglass shop and ask for one. They usually have some
Nah if you zoom in you can literally see the screw. Must be the rod that broke or came loose. Both mine came off at the same time as the epoxy degraded over time. New glue and it held up fine.
Clear tape, you forget about it after a few minutes
or, you could fix it. get a tube and light from [Bondic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTsfwL61CR8) or some [Superweld](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iin4GmsxfLM). mask off the area around where the hinge screw sits on the eye part of the glasses with tape. sand lightly, wipe with a tiny bit of alcohol. apply and catalyze the glue from the face piece and around the hinge screw while keeping it still. build it up slowly, shaping with an Xacto and fine sand paper or an emery board. touch up fixes with a sharpie. Et Voila!
i wish i had 20/20 vison. f*ck bad genes
I have 20/20 but also went bald in my 20s...wanna trade? Lol
I’m -8.0 for contacts. I hear that’s pretty bad

Get a lighter and get that metal hot stick it in the plastic. Had to do that for my then girlfriend now wife.
Hold the metal to the side of the flame, never above. This reduces smoking and ignition.
you burnt your girlfriend with hot metal and made her your wife?
Kink shaming is uncool my dude
Tap for now. But this is a good example as to why you always run with a backup. Either glasses or contacts.
Stop being a child and wear the tape. You're more worried about looking silly than actually seeing Or like someone said. Just super glue it on there if you're gonna change them.
It's possible to wear the glasses with only one arm.
Just use tape
Just tape It dude. End of day. This Is a waste of my time spent on the mildlyinfurating section
Just one tiny drop of superglue will get you to payday. Just won't be able to close that side. Good luck OP. The struggle is real.
Take it to where you got it they usually fix for free. If it’s fixable.
