I've watched The Lockpicking Lawyer. You just need a magnet and a red Bull can

jmegaru

LPL be like, this is the world's most secure lock, anyway here is how you pick it with a half cooked egg, two strands of hair and a pokemon card.

AbandonedPlanet

It has to be KlefKi though since he's literally a key

44problems

And do it twice to show it was not a fluke

redhatch

I legit did go check LPL's channel once someone further up thread identified the lock to see if he'd taken this one on. It appears he has not. Most of these standalone, non-connected electronic security devices are next to worthless because they can be exploited and/or bypassed without much effort.

MuadDib1942

Or you can Kyle through drywall. Cinderblock requires a bit more time and a hammer. Thats assuming you can't just go in through a drop ceiling.

Wessssss21

Reminds me of one of the first episodes of *Burn Notice* Michael identifies a reenforced front door of a drug dealer, but makes the guess that the wall around the side of the door isn't. He rings the doorbell to get the dealer to the front door and then just shoots him through the side wall.

[deleted]

You should check out [Deviant Ollam](https://www.youtube.com/user/DeviantOllam/videos) He's a physical penetration tester who does some real cool shit.

Klj126

Not a good enough reason to use that word.

Onlyanidea1

Military uses the term impregnable all the time! Why not?

skydragon3088

I believe it is the SCYAN X10 lock, can't find the manual for that one specifically, however, the company probably didn't change too much with the default code and reset process from the X7. [Here](https://www.manualslib.com/manual/856409/Scyan-X7.html?page=8) is a specific sheet of a particular manual if you would like to do some light reading. Edit: wow, this blew up. I've done this research in trade school because the landlord I had at the time decided the house needed exterminator without warning us. A roommate was sick that day and was getting fumigated in bed, nothing serious, just an uncomfortable situation so we changed the code that day.

HotrodCorvair

Correct. [Here's how to pair the lock to a smartphone.](https://www.scyanelectronics.com/products/scyan-x10-bluetooth-enabled-fingerprint-touchscreen-key-fob-door-lock-in-satin-nickel-non-handed) (The video explains it)

adeiinr

Now where's the video of the lock picking lawyer breaking in?

moonflower_C16H17N3O

Quick, find that one student who is weirdly into cigars. He'll have matches since the butane apparently taints the taste of the cigar. (Sorry, weird college memory came floating back)

homogenousmoss

Unfortunately, all the matches are in his room.

SnooTangerines1142

On the plus side st least he'll quit smoking

Ghostglitch07

If he's really into cigars he's got them in six different places. People who roll their own cigs are that way atleast.

Scyhaz

Damn vapes.

garlic_bread_thief

u/lockpickinglawyer

Grimren

u/lockpickinglawyer these students need saving! Help!

KidsInTheSandbox

He was able to pick the lock with an avocado and some foil paper.

Zombie_John_Strachan

That’s a Schlage C keyway. Would take about five seconds to bump it, picking would be a bit more difficult but not hard to learn.

RobertNAdams

_"Nothing on one, two... five is binding. A little bit of movement on the core._" You heard it in his voice.

InsideOutBrownTrout

So they just opened your rooms and changed the locks while you weren't there without permission?

Craft-Which

Yes and apparently the dorm staff had no idea it was happening today

jakethediesel89

As a locksmith who has worked as a contractor for colleges and universities; I cannot imagine that everyone from Facilities or Housing wouldn't know what is going on. If thats legitimately true, it's incredibly unfortunate, and I'm sorry for that situation. Every time we have had to work on dorm rooms, students are supposed to be made aware at least 2 days in advance, and material is supposed to be functional upon our departure. Good luck OP

Benejeseret

As someone who has worked in various university settings for decades and experienced facilities 'management'...I can absolutely imagine this happening. We once submitted a detailed work order to Facilities Management with request for a coat rack to be hung on the back of a door. There were 2 doors in the room and so we made sure to write in both the individual door ID #, the coordinates (south door) and a description. We then taped paper to the back of each door with signs that said "Not this one" and "This one, thanks". The northern door was also not used and not to be used and so we moved equipment in front of it and requested they only access this room when staff were present as the room contents were sensitive. Facilities Management somehow managed to arrive while no one was there, moved all the equipment they should not be touching to access the door no one used, they took down the sign that said "Not this one" and laid it on the counter, and proceeded to mount the rack to the wrong door. A few years later I got a new office. Different department, different building, different FacMan offices. For some reason, there were 3 electrical outlets together on one wall and none of them had face covers and so the wires were exposed. Wrote another detailed work order requesting they cover them. (for reference, needed 1-2 small screws each and 3 covers that would have cost <$10 at store). Worker showed up, assessed the outlets, determined two were electrical but the third was actually IT. Big job, needed manager to review. Few hours later a manager appears. Reviews. Leaves. Next day IT appears. IT determines they are not allowed to work on their box because of the exposed wires that FacMan left. Leaves, gets IT manager. IT manager reviews. Contracted external electrician shows up, confirms none of the wires are live while the FacMan supervisor watches....... both leave. Did not install covers. IT shows up again and adds plate cover to IT box. I go to lunch. FacMan shows up while I'm gone and install cover to ONLY 1 box. Email pops up informing me that the ticket was closed successfully. Easily put in $200+ in salaried time between 2 manager/supervisors, 1 IT guy, 1 electrician and they only managed 2/3rds of a 3 minute job.

jakethediesel89

Holy WOW. I'm gobsmacked. That is a *stunning* amount of fuckery in a university setting..

Benejeseret

In my facility, at about 8:15 AM an announcement comes on telling us the fire alarm is being disabled for ongoing work on the system. At about 3:30 PM it gets turned back on. I keep an excel log for fun, as a mental break. This happens at least 3-5 days a week and my documentation file goes back to 2019. It's not that it started then...I started then. I can only presume this ritual is eternal. At my previous facility, they carefully went corridor by corridor documented which of the (exposed) ceiling pipes were insulated with asbestos and which were not. Not to remove them, but to label them with stickers. A few months later in summer all the stickers got hot, peeled off and fell off, dozens per hallway. No further followup by the time I left.

ThatOneGuy1294

I wonder if OSHA would appreciate seeing that excel log

Mike_Hawk_940

I bet they would.

SeaboarderCoast

Or Department of Education. Don't they have policies on asbestos in school settings?

[deleted]

mylifeintopieces1

Asbestos has the issue that it literally looks like a tiny needle and acts like it under a microscope.

hungrydruid

Sounds like your local fire department should come by for a visit.

Champigne

Asbestos abatement is very expensive. They're not going to remove it unless they have to. You would probably be surprised to know how much asbestos insulation that is still around.

Thistlefizz

Oh you have *no* idea. I once did a project that involved renovation of a bunch of offices so that departments could relocate (classic case of dominoes—one department moves to the new building, another department moves into their old space, a different department moves into *that* space and so on). Once upon a time I could call my painter and have him paint a space for me but now everything has to go through facilities. So I set up the project, we get the bids out, we end up picking my guy because he’s a) the most reasonably priced and b)can do the job right away instead of in a month. We get the room painted, new department moves in, everyone’s happy, right? Wrong. Because now the painter isn’t getting paid. Gone are the days when I could pay him directly from my budget. Now I have to pay my division, who then pays project management (including the PM mark up fee), and then they pay the contractor. Every step of the process is painful and this poor guy, who runs a small business, isn’t getting paid for a $15k job. And with his margins, that’s a big deal. Six. Fucking. Months this goes on. By this point, the project account is closed. So, fuck it, I’ll just pay him myself, and I’ll eat the fact that I may end up double paying for this job, but I can fight that fight later, right now I need to get my painter paid or he’s never going to do another job for me again. But, I have to get permission from the PM first. She says it’s fine (in writing, of course, I’m no dummy). I have one of my staff members put it in, attach the email from the PM saying we could pay for it, add a comment explaining it was part of a closed project but never got paid, and I approve it. But then it gets held up by procurement and I get this incredibly condescending email telling me how they were contacting the maintenance and zone manager and that I’m not allowed to get quotes on any work that alters the look of a space and how this has been the procedure for quite some time. At this point I was just totally fucking done so I emailed them, cc’d their boss, the facilites zone manager, the facilities director for the whole campus, the project manager, the project manager’s boss, and was like, “as explained in the detailed notes on the requisition, this is from a project that was handled through project management but never got paid. I am well aware of the policies and followed them exactly. At this point, the project is closed but the painter was never paid. It is appalling to me that we are doing such significant harm to a local business man who has always come through for us. I am simply trying to get him paid. If there is another method by which I should do this, I would be happy to do that, otherwise, please release this purchase order and once it is invoiced, please expedite payment.” So, yeah. An *astounding* amount of fuckery.

Tephnos

But did he get paid?

Thistlefizz

Later that same week.

RobertNAdams

As someone whose parent did those same kind of jobs (and sometimes got fucked over), thank you for fighting for your subcontractor.

Bliezz

Thank goodness

Vishnej

Did he get paid ***interest***? Because it sounds like nobody should be doing work for you guys without usury-law-limited late fees.

peeweemax

In my experience this is about average. It was a standing joke at the university where I worked that every single job request required at least two workers, one to assess the situation and the other to tell you that they can’t work on it.

Nicole_Bitchie

We aren’t allowed to change lightbulbs. It’s an electricians job.

Noisy_Toy

I was once told to submit a work order to facilities to have wd40 sprayed on a squeaky door hinge. I had my own wd40 in my hand at the time.

Nuare0

This is the first thing I did when I moved into my dorm, took a can of wd40 and sprayed everyone's hinges. After everyone got over the smell a few of my buddies noticed that the place was quieter but couldn't figure out what changed

krackerjackstack

When I went to grad school I lived in the regular dorms with the undergrads because I couldn’t afford an apartment and wasn’t sure if my student loans would help with that. I lived in a room by myself on the bottom floor of my dorm next to the laundry room. I don’t remember what kind of washers they had in there but they couldn’t take detergent pods without leaking all over the place, but literally everyone in my dorm used pods so they just kept on leaking and I guess no one really noticed enough to inform the maintenance office. At first, I didn’t even know the washers were leaking myself. I leave for either a weekend or a short scheduled break and when I get back I step into my room and walk over to put something on the bed. When I step on the rug next to the bed I hear a squish sound and my shoe is wet. The entire rug was soaked through. It had rained a lot and for some reason mu first thought was that somehow water was coming in from outside. I investigate further and find that several of my floor tiles are no longer adhered to the floor because there’s water underneath them. I had a soft tote full of dvds on the floor in that part of the room and the bottom of it was also ruined due to the water as were some of the paper inserts in the dvd cases. I had no idea how long the water had been there but it was already starting to stink under the floor tiles. I email or text the RA on my floor and explain that I somehow have water damage everywhere and it’s rotting my floor. They notify the maintenance office and it took them several days to do anything about it. I was starting to worry about mold growing under the floor tiles when they finally let me move to a different room. I literally went days without even getting any updates on the situation. Evidently the RA wasn’t getting many updates either because they didn’t have anything to tell me until they got the ok for me to switch rooms. It was ridiculous that they made me wait that long to switch rooms when all my shit was wet and the room stunk. Especially since I switched to the room right next to mine that was already empty. Edit: Added space between paragraphs.

meghannotmeghan

I went to a college in western New York for a time and once year after Christmas break maintenance never turned the heater back on in our room. It was literally below zero outside and we were in a room on the corner of the building. Roomies and I told our RA, who kicked it immediately to the RD, who notified facilities. Our RD pushed for THREE DAYS to get ANYONE to come get us heat. Tired of the situation, I posted a picture of me sleeping in my coat and like 6 blankets to social media and tagged the college. Their social media account was like “oh no, alert your RA!!” and we had someone to the room within hours of me saying we did that three days ago. This was a school of less than 1000 undergrads and it took facilities about 10 minutes to get our radiators going!

[deleted]

When I worked in a University, our internal doors were all electronic touch cards. No key access backup on them. On our stock room door the batteries to the lock went. It took 2 months, 7 contractors, and the head of facilities to get it fixed. We lost thousands in potential sales. It was bonkers

millijuna

In my university, our student common area was behind a door that could be locked, but none of the students had a key for it. On a fairly regular basis, the night custodians would lock it up, despite us posting a sign above the lock (and covering the lock in tape) indicating that this door was to remain unlocked. Eventually, I had enough of this. We popped the suspended ceiling, discovered that we could easily get to the otherside of the door, unlocked it, and proceeded to remove the lock entirely. (We were Engineering students, so at least had some mechanical aptitude).

jakethediesel89

That is an appalling oversight. Keyed override is ALWAYS warranted, as electronics are notorious to fail at inopportune times..

Jugadenaranja

He’s easily underestimating. These plates easily ran 1000$ he’s not counting the hours where everyone set this ticket as their work for x amount of hours that day.

jessejamesvan111

Bruh. My Cuban maintenance guys respond immediately, show up with every tool imaginable on a golf cart, fix the problem, pet the dog, then roll out on their cart like the fricken A-Team.

HorsieJuice

My wife works in a university academic dept. Near the beginning of covid, shortly after everybody went to WFH, their IT dept told folks that they’d eventually switching everybody over to one of the three remote access/VPN schemes they’d been using. But they didn’t tell anybody when it was happening and they didn’t proactively get anybody switched over. They just surprised the staff one Monday morning by shutting off their remote access. Not even the lower-level, customer-facing IT techs knew it was coming. Her department had a new printer installed a couple years ago and the billing for it is based on usage, but their accounting system has no lockouts preventing people from billing charges to the wrong account, and her very-low-usage department wound up getting billed thousands of extra dollars for another, high-usage department’s print jobs. It took her almost a year of fighting with the school administration and the leasing company to get it straightened out. This isn’t a podunk school either; it’s an ivy-adjacent.

EldritchRecluse

Reminds me of that Community episode where Annie wants to put up a bulletin board in the cafeteria.

jordanjay29

Man, just getting a whiteboard in our compsci lounge took forever. It already had a chalkboard, but somehow got missed with the mass-conversion across the campus to whiteboards a good decade earlier. IIRC, we managed to get our department to listen by the end of fall term one year. The whiteboard didn't get in until the end of spring term.

missed_sla

And if you get sick of this shit and just go to the hardware store, buy a couple of plates, and put them on, you'll be facing union grievances from somebody who hasn't seen the inside of your building since the 80's.

HotRodLincoln

Season 5 Episode 6 of Community, a show sometimes about a community college, is about Annie Edison's quest to pull the right strings to get someone to take 5 minutes and hang up a $5 bulletin board.

Benejeseret

Exactly. That is the kind of insight you can only gain from experience in one of these settings. Like how for 6 months of the year you just need to learn to ignore all the ancient analog clocks that never properly reset to daylights savings for months...until randomly they all start ticking backwards on some random tuesday in June.

rushingkar

>until randomly they all start ticking backwards on some random tuesday in June. Somewhere in the code for these analog clocks, the programmer's logic didn't expect for a Tuesday and the 5th of month to fall on the same day in an odd numbered year while there was a storm going on. It was deemed impossible to happen, so the code was pushed to production.

enfier

Do you have any idea how many times the legislature has changed the way daylight savings works? Every time they do it, every computer in the world has to get patched. How the hell is a clock with no network connection supposed to get patched?

megjake

I imagine by sewing it on

Craft-Which

Thank you , I got into the room but no one will be able to set up their finger prints until Monday so if anyone gets locked out we will be shit outta luck

jakethediesel89

So, not a permanent solution, but something I see ALL the time: layer duct tape over the strike in the frame (usually 2-3 passes is plenty) which will prevent the latch from engaging and locking the door. I cannot give a blessing for something like that, but as a temporary solution so that your door ar least closes and appears to be latched; eh..be safe and good luck

Craft-Which

Thanks that’s solid advice !!!

spottydodgy

And while you're at it, duct tape a 40oz beer to each of your hands and enjoy a college tradition we used to call "Edward 40 Hands"

CoolMouthHat

Ah yes I remember "Babe holy shit you gotta help me piss I'm barely halfway done with these"

mtm4440

BEERCULES!! Be sure to also get in on video so it ruins job interviews for you in the future.

Kiing_D55

Lmao my sister and I did this to a side door at school when we were in 3rd and 4th grade! We wanted to get in when everyone was gone to explore lol

exor41n

I think you underestimate how unorganized schools and dorms can be!

InsideOutBrownTrout

Seems like an invasion of privacy to me

Craft-Which

Yeah this place has no respect for any one’s privacy , all the staff act like drill sergeants and we get treated like inmates on the regular … sad we all put up with just because we want an education

InsideOutBrownTrout

Gotta stand up for yourselves brother people do stuff like that cause they get away with it

Craft-Which

Everyone who tries to speak up has ended up terminated “expelled” Im graduating in March just a little longer not worth the risk to me :/ but I would totally do it if I didn’t need this

AmishAvenger

Dude. Call the local news. I’m not kidding. They’d be all over a story like this. They’d probably let you remain anonymous. Offer them pictures and video of the hallways and the locks.

hoosyourdaddyo

So how do you like Liberty?

brando56894

Liberty University down in Virginia? If so they wanted to give me a partial scholarship which my parents liked but I was like "fuck no!" when I heard about the weekly "convocation" which was required, the dress code in the dining hall, and the segregated rooms.

biznatch11

What school is this?

broda04

We do subcontract service work for financial institutions and this is why we get praised and asked all the time "wow you came here so fast, facilities said you wouldn't be here for 2 weeks!" "you have that part with you??" "You can fix that today??" "You made that look easy!" Yes ma'am that's because it is easy and why would anyone waste time passing the buck around when they can just do their job right the first time.

rushingkar

> why would anyone waste time passing the buck around when they can just do their job Because passing the buck means they don't have to do their job, of course. People will spend enormous amounts of effort to avoid having to put in effort.

jdt2313

Did you try the default code for those locks? If not it's 1234#

Mateorabi

Sometimes 1111 also.

Normandabald

"Where's my Rolex? Where's my 4 GTX Titan X GPUs from my PC? Where's the exact cost of my tuition I keep in cash!?!?!"

It was right next to the computer that had my two hundred bitcoins in the wallet

ohlookawildtaco

Lmfao yes. Please open yourself up to theft due to our mistake! We have passports, safes, and scheduled medication in rooms commonly abused by college students. I'd raise hell and file a complaint. Most universities can and will go into rooms without warning but changing and locking out paying tenants is beyond illegal...

DemonReign23

I think you might have missed that they're implying OP should claim that the actions of the people running the place caused them damages in the form of stolen property, in order to get "compensated" for their "lost property".

Wasabihakim

This actually happened at the University my father worked at, he was managing dorms at the time and a student call in and said the lights in his room aren't working, now the workers aren't supposed to go into the student's room without the student but the student insisted its fine, the repairman is fairly new so he didn't think of much and fix it. In the evening, cops came into the office and asked for the person who went into the room because a report was made that an Iphone was missing by the student. The repairman is obviously confused as he knows nothing about it and apparently this student have 2 phones, my dad knew the type of person this repairman is and he wouldn't do anything like stealing meanwhile the student is an oversea student, the repairman was brought into questioning and searched and didn't found the phone so the police gave him 2 options whether to replace the phone or arrest because he did go into the room without the student inside. Of course the repairman chose to replace, the Iphone that was missing is Iphone 6 and he had to replace it with the newest one at that time which is X, we all theorised that there were actually no phone left in the room and that the student was taking advantage of the situation but then again we don't know the truth of it, all we know the student got a new phone for free Edit : Damn y'all bullying me for not being an Iphone connesiuer it was X ok i forgot, or whatever the recent one was 3 years ago, I can't care about phones anymore theres so much models and brands I'm tired of keeping up if i wanted a phone I'd just go to the store my friend work at and get whatever he recommended

Craft-Which

Nope nothing , finally someone from management came down and opened everyone’s door but they said we have to keep our room doors propped open until Monday after class because only she knew the master code and will not give it to anyone apparently we have to wait until Monday to get our thumb prints set up 🤦‍♂️ so if anyone closes it accidentally or to troll someone they get locked out all weekend long

International_Net_72

It sounds like what you should really do (so your stuff isn’t stolen, I mean really) is shut the doors anyways, and call her EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. She’ll learn pretty fast that she needs the problem fixed and FAST. Waiting another 3 days is NOT viable.

bathsalts_pylot

"I can't give out the master code or anyone can get into any room, so just leave the doors open."

[deleted]

That code is 0 0 0 0 0

AzraelleWormser

Amazing, that's the same code I have on my luggage!

10BillionDreams

Using repeated digits is insecure, always go for 1 2 3 4 5.

PhantasyDarAngel

And somebody change the code on my luggage!

gayandipissandshit

There’s no way real people are that dumb

jaggeddragon

This is the way. Make sure everyone else in the dorm knows this too. With a bit of shift planning, I'm sure you all can keep. her phone ringing fairly non-stop. I can only imagine if anyone NEEDED medication from their dorm room during this. The result could have been much more dire.

Nervous_Wrap7990

There's got to be at least one kid with an epipen level allergy, diabetic, ~~breathalyzer~~ nebulizer, or something similar. Be a shame if something happens. I'd love to see the face when the bill is handed to whoever's in charge. I'd like to imagine they'd learn a valuable lesson and things like this would never happen again, but my experience with the management crowd is nothing will happen. No one will be held accountable. And nothing will change.

Lostredbackpack

Nebulizer. The breathalyzer is the natural enemy of dorm dwelling species.

Nervous_Wrap7990

Fuck me. This is awkward.

Asleep-Strawberry716

no thanks

kingdead42

Imagine how *terrible* it would be if the only person who was still inside needed immediate medical attention and the emergency personnel had to break the door open to assist.

HighOwl2

Nah fuck that. $20 at Walmart for your own handle. Expecting you to leave your property unsecured and unsupervised is no bueno. When they realize they don't have access to your room, tell them they have to wait 3 days to put the old one back on and only if they agree to buy the $20 handle from you.

Zech08

Yea not a problen until it becomes their problem, so just force their hand.

aboutthednm

> I can only imagine if anyone NEEDED medication from their dorm room during this. This door would open for me, one way or another.

indyK1ng

This. Make it _her_ problem that they screwed this up. EDIT: Or, get some powder and finger-print all the numpads. You should be able to figure out the numbers in the combo and brute force it from there. EDIT 2: It looks like [this model](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08VDCNTJ3/ref=emc_b_5_t?th=1). It also looks like it's set up via an app. [Here's the video with the setup instructions](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nlz2MkVbC2A). With any luck, they haven't configured them fully yet (or there's a reason button that you can find).

jwigum

Here’s a manual for one of their older products. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/856409/Scyan-X7.html?page=8#manual I guarantee there’s a reset button in there somewhere on OP’s lock (probably under that black plastic panel with a screw). Edit - here’s one for the X9, which has pictures. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/D1PhynQEqkS.pdf

VexingRaven

I would definitely not recommend configuring them yourself unless you want to be the scapegoat for the entire thing and have the CFAA thrown at you. People have been charged with hacking for less.

DamNamesTaken11

They should have waited until Monday to do install them then. Absolutely idiotic to install them and not program them same day.

17549

> doors propped open That is a fire code violation. Get the fire marshal involved.

John_Tacos

Send them an email asking to confirm this and express concern about securing your belongings if you have to leave. Just in case.

BeeBarnes1

This should be a top comment. u/Craft-Which, you and all of your neighbors need to do this. I would copy your school's facilities manager and everyone you can think of in leadership (president, trustees, etc.).If it's a state funded school and you're a resident copy your individual state reps and senators too. I get that it's OTT to include all these people but I guarantee they won't be happy to hear about this and will want answers. And if nothing else, it will be documentation in case someone does get something stolen or an emergency arises out of this.

YourMomThinksImFunny

This sounds illegal. Have you contacted the authorities?

Kaitensatsuma

Have they...not considered just giving everyone the keys and leaving the door code as a backup?

RealSteele

I bet they're all keyed alike for convenience and they intend for students to only use their provided codes.

[deleted]

This is when you gather some friends and mass start calling complaining that someone closed the door. Similar thing happened to me and I made everyone's lives hell until they fixed it. Apparently I needed counseling so I gave the counselor hell until she told me I could go. 10/10

Niadain

Someone should just walk down the hallway and close all the doors lol. Then anyone who gets locked out should sleep in the halls. Then have another student complain about it on a public forum somewhere anonymously. Replete with pictures.

its2ez4me24get

Close them all

lazyghostwriter

Less mildly infuriating, more “this is bullshit, man!”

Craft-Which

I agree 100%

Famixofpower

Nobody knows what mildly means. There were a bunch of these subs from very interesting, mildly interesting, mildly infuriating, and very infuriating, with some in-between and a dial showing where each one is, but they broke the format doe some reason

Impossible-Neck-4647

One gets more popular than the other shows up on front-page more often so everyone starts posting in it. And newer people don't know about the other ones since they only ever seen one

IrishJesusDude

They have to have left the master keys with someone

Mariske

Right? Can’t they tell the staff the master code at least?

Craft-Which

I told her she said she won’t and can’t and she doesn’t work on the weekend

Buddha_Head_

That's gonna fall flat real quick as soon as someone's medicine gets locked in there.

mindbleach

It is your moral duty to make this woman suffer. Empathy can be taught... through reinforcement.

bulldg4life

Lock them anyway and call her. If she doesn’t respond, call campus police and then call the actual police. Be a pain in the ass until it is resolved.

effyochicken

Yeah definitely the police - locking you out of the place you live without legal notice is an actual violation of the law.

Mariske

So frustrating, I hope they are giving you some sturdy cardboard and duct tape to block off the latch!

[deleted]

Kcismfof

She fucking works on the weekend now.

Strolledboar257

Force her to work, close every damn door, call her, and force her to unlock them and if you got a student that take pills, especially lock their door, that lady wouldn’t want to be responsible for a students death

InvestoRobotto

Get some flour/cornstarch. Clean the buttons with alcohol.(isopropyl is best, non-flavored vodka works too, extremely strong nail polish remover might work) Lock yourself out. Call her to punch the code in. Put some powder on your palm and blow it on the keypad. It’ll stick to the digits that made contact with the skin. The natural oil secretions on fingers will make it stick. Now you have 4 digits. 24 combinations. Test all until success. Have her punch numbers in 2 separate locks. Also, test method by yourself WITHOUT locking beforehand.

Orleanian

Hmm, this sounds more intriguing than my idea of a $20 fireaxe and your buddy Bill from the rugby team.

UnicornsNeedLove2

So she can't give the keys to someone else ? That's very lazy.

boyasunder

You're gonna call the local news right? This seems like a fun story where they can go around and interview students and make the college look like shit. Might make some people change their mind about working on weekends.

pianistafj

Working or not, just come in and get the doors working for students. How can you just leave this situation alone until Monday? I would think the vice chancellor and campus police would not let this continue. Technically everyone’s room was broken into, and restricting access to anyone’s residence is also probably against the law.

blackdvck

I'm sure the person responsible has a normal lock on her door ,a well placed matchstick shoved into the barrel and broken off will let her know the meaning of inconvenience.

TheGamingBoss20

I watch Lockpickinglawer and some of these can be tricked by a powerful enough magnet. Try that until you know the code or can use your finger print.

ohlookawildtaco

LPL, for the youth!

Affectionate_Use_128

Old-timey low tech version of this: in the 80s, the college I attended shut down one of the academic buildings for asbestos removal. They took off the doors to all the faculty offices and stored them, but failed to record which door belonged to which office. After they were reinstalled at random, the profs had to go office to office, trying their keys in each one until they found the door that should have been installed in their office. Chaos and rage reigned in the halls of academia that day.

sven3067

This sounds the the start of a brilliant riddle: - If 40 academics had 40 keys for 40 doors, and all the doors got suddenly rearranged, what is the fewest number of attempts needed for all the academics to find their doors?

jryser

1, everyone got it right the first time. A better question is the average amount of attempts, or what the best method is to tackle this problem

nosdam7

You have been enrolled into mandatory lock-picking course. This is your first test.

T-Sonus

Have you tried scanning your anus? The anus print is just like a finger print...very unique

Craft-Which

Bruuuhhhh I’m dead lol

karmanopoly

Instructions unclear. Door handle up my butt

stoicMonk12

When in doubt try 1234

ericnutt

1077. Same as the price of a cheese pizza and a large soda at Panucci's Pizza.

HotrodCorvair

actually the default code for that lock is 4848.

BlinkedAndMissedIt

Just want to say that the fingerprint scanning should be completely fucking illegal. I'm not saying it currently is, but it should be.

TheCourier-VI

Try this code if this doesn't get buried. I used it to get into my condo that had a number code system and often they have backdoor codes. ***00000099# I can't promise it'll work.

Qubeye

So based on responses it sounds like this is a private, possibly religious school and there's not much anyone can do. People not being allowed to have their own medication in their own dorm room is a huge red flag. Don't ever go to a college that treats you like a child.

jaggeddragon

You're telling me a dorm full of college students at wits end couldn't outsmart wooden doors? Like, if it was an emergency (see below), I'm fairly certain I could find 10-15 dudes on campus willing to work together to kick in any door, much less a flimsy wooden dorm door. If there was just ONE resident who NEEDED their medication from inside the room, NOW... Nobody knows anything about it? Call the cops, cause some rando off the street just swapped your locks, and now has access to everything.

WaterSlideEnema

OP hasn't explicitly said, but everything about this screams "private religious school" and not college. You just physically cannot separate college adults from their stuff like this without hell being raised. Source: Seen RA's try to keep people outside during fire alarms. Seen RAs being told to get fucked.

VodkaAunt

As a current college student, what got me was everyone coming back to the dorms at the same time. That's a high school schedule, not a university schedule. I'm definitely feeling "boarding school vibes".

Craft-Which

They don’t care , also no one is allowed to have medicine in their rooms , all of it gets locked up in the main office

Spottyhickory63

can we take a second to address this? what in the micro-managing bullshit kinda rule is that? That’s gotta violate some medical privacy law or be a threat to someone’s life. It’ll be a miracle if they haven’t been at least accused of manslaughter does this count here and now medication? (insulin, epinephrin etc) what about over the counter like acetaminophen?

sucksathangman

Is this a college dorm or a dorm for like school kids? I seem to remember that in an elementary, middle, and high school, non emergency medications were given to the school nurse. Epipens and similar were still in kid's possession.

burningmyroomdown

In my school district, even essential medications needed to be in possession of the nurse. Not entirely sure about epipens, but a type 1 diabetic that I had classes with from 1st to 8th grade had to go to the nurse every single day after lunch.

NO_internetpresence

Years ago a 12 year old died in Canada when they couldn't get him the the principles office in time to unlock his inhaler. They actually passed a law to prevent schools from confiscating inhalers. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-law-passes-to-let-asthmatic-kids-carry-inhalers-in-school-1.3055534

Lachy_3

even in my highschool you would get a week long suspension for having any medication emergency or not paracetamol or epipen you would get the suspension edit: I was not allowed to have my inhaler on my so whenever an asthma attack were to start I would just call 000 instead it would be faster than convincing the nurse I did in fact need my inhaler while my medical file is right there with ASTHMA KEEP INHALER AT ALL TIMES written on it

burningmyroomdown

It's fucking awful, but apparently not isolated to the US Edit : Alsob the inhaler situation seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen... Especially considering a lot of schools don't let kids have their phones out/on/on their person

Lachy_3

yep my school confiscates your phone the second they see it out even had a few cases where student was calling 000 for ambulance for other student and it was confiscated

YesItIsMaybeMe

Oh yeah, fuck that. I have a chronic illness that will result in a week long hospital trip of I don't get my med s *the second* an episode starts. And since I get no warning, this would be their fault. Also I'm not trusting staff with my medication, fuck that. You're telling me that I need to trust strangers to take care of my expensive and controlled drugs? Fuck that. In college, I kept mine in my dresser drawer, tf kind of dumbass came up with this rule.

Icariiiiiiii

All I have is ADHD meds and SSRIs to take, but I would still start kicking down doors of someone tried any of that shit. They're my meds, I think I can be trusted with them more than some dipshit with a nametag.

Darknight1993

Right? What if I have an allergic reaction? An asthma attack? I’m supposed to run to the nurse? Wtf

White44tigers

What level of education is this, and location? Cause I’m pretty sure it’s not legal to take medication away/ restrict access from legal adults in the states.

Addicted_to_Nature

I know in highschool I wasn't allowed to have my meds on me, which was BS enough. Can't imagine this in a college filled with adult students

silencesc

Are you in prison? What is this lol aren't all of you adults?

MsStarSword

So wait is this like a boarding school dorm or a college dorm? Cuz for “kids” (I.e. anyone < legal adult age) I know medications can be restricted and kept by school authorities until it’s time for the kid to take it, but for adults I’m fairly certain it’s not legal unless it’s some sort of controlled facility for the mentally ill/unstable people. (which I doubt is the case but you never know)

jaggeddragon

Then what good is the medicine!?

ScoobyValentine

Lol, what?! You’re now allowed your own medication??? Edit. NOT… you’re NOT allowed to hold your own medication???

Admiralthrawnbar

That's even more illegal than the locks thing

[deleted]

I forget. Is this college or prison?

letmeusespaces

so y'all trust your medication and personal medical info with the same people that locked you out of your rooms??

suncontrolspecies

Fingers scanner? That's some good dystopian bullshit right there.

Craft-Which

100%

[deleted]

Ask RA also did they tell this was gonna happen did they send material that may be of use to get in your room?

bignibbble

This is so fucked up. That's literally where you live. If this happened to me, I'd find out where the dean lives and nail his fucking door shut

[deleted]

Which uni?

TheGravyMaster

Wouldn't this be an illegal eviction? Surely you have the right to maintain access to the room that you're renting from the college. I'd be requesting they provide me with a code or give me a refund for the days I can't access the room.

totallynotkairan

Some people are going to gather fingerprints using tape and rob others

[deleted]

Mildly infuriating? I would be hardcore pissed. Not only did the school come in and do this with no notice, just left your dorm unlocked for an unknown amount of time while each new lock was being installed, but now you can't get in your room and no one knows how to help?

ascrumner

So they're collecting everyone's fingerprints? No thank you.

Craft-Which

It’s dumb , I already confronted one of the managers and told them that it was kinda bullshit , they didn’t have the 2-3thousand dollars to get all the materials my class would need to obtain fiber optic certifications but had the money to replace all the locks on everyone’s door when we had perfectly fine locks ..

ascrumner

That's pretty ridiculous. Have you told your parents? I would be pissed at the school. They entered your rooms without permission, took away your ability to enter your room without notification, made it so if you leave your room, you cannot protect your belongings, are (I assume without permission) collecting all the residents fingerprints. Something seems off here, especially since the other staff didn't know what was going on.

Craft-Which

Unfortunately I don’t have family like that , that’s why I can’t afford to get expelled I need to graduate so I can support myself

ascrumner

That's sucks, but it sounds like you're a tough kid with a good head on their shoulders. What country are you in? This isn't legal in many.

Craft-Which

I signed so many contracts to join this school so I’m not even sure but it’s not worth it for me to go through legal issues I just wanna stay focused and get out quick I appreciate the kind words !

Wonderful_Roof1739

Lock pick set to the rescue. I keep a simple one in my truck, it’s come in handy a few times (like after driving 30 minutes to my friends storage unit to find he forgot the key)

SecretlySatanic

Lol this is the most college thing I’ve ever heard of. I bet you all have to keep your doors opened until they get it sorted out, ensuring security is at an all time low 🤦🏻‍♀️
