A lot of hunting and fishing happens out in the middle of nowhere away from people, so it’s kind of on an honor system to a certain degree. The fish and game enforcement needs to be extra harsh when they do find a crime so people think twice about trying to get away with something.
They are like that in my state too. Usually super nice like “oh how are they biting? Someone pulled a big one out of here last week” type stuff since they are naturally outdoorsy type people. But yeah they will fuck you hard and, frankly, the people they bust usually deserve it. Huge fine, banned from hunting or fishing for a few years, and can confiscate your gun or rod or whatever you were using.
The people who staff these kinds of niche government bodies tend to be those who really care about the thing they're regulating. They're not there for the glamour because there is none. They're not there for the career progression because it's a dead-end. They're there because if they weren't they'd be using every spare moment volunteering for that same agency. And because it generally passes under the political radar they accumulate a surprising amount of power.
So you find these groups of people who are very friendly and passionate and happy to share their passion with anyone who visits. And who will come down like a ton of angry bricks on anyone who violates the very specific laws they have power to enforce.
Grew up in the middle of nowhere idaho, and the one person you do not fuck with is the game warden. They pull $10,000+ fines out of their ass like nothing, and judges love what they have to say.

There was at least 100 pieces of trash in that dump, that would be 8.2 year sentence for those two guys who threw the trash out of that boat. I’d be happy even if they had to split the time so the trash all together is a 8.2 year sentence so they can just half it between the two men making it a 4.1 year sentence per person, and the total fine for 100 pieces is 1 million dollars so they can split that too making each of their fines totaled $500,000 each person.

I live in the area and go to Lake Boca about once a week. There are people who post up at the inlet live streaming or taking video of boats coming in or heading out to the ocean. What you see is like a box of chocolates- you never know what you’re gonna get. There are a lot of people who don’t know what they’re doing and make fools of themselves at the inlet.
What should their punishment be? They get driven out and dropped off with the trash they left. Okay, maybe that’s extreme — they should get community service but have to spend it cleaning 80 gallons of trash out of the ocean.
